I look after a number of sites and monitor their stats. We use both webalizer and AWSTATS so we can have a comparison. Up until recently the stats for both of them where relatively the same, webalizer usually showing higher numbers as it doesn't filter bots but the progression of increase and decrease in stats was proportional. However, over the last few months a curious trend is appearing, the stats in AWSTATS are decreasing every month whereas the stats in Webalizer are increasing, the gap between them now is huge.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWith 1.5TB drives out now and 500GB and 1TB being dirt cheap, I still see that 80-120GB is standard on dedicated servers. If you want a 500Gig you will pay up the ***. Why is this? It's actually EASIER to buy a 500GB drive then a 120GB one nowdays.
I'm guessing it's because they still have tons of the lower space ones on site so it stops them from needing to buy new ones.
I have 2 questions:
1) I have one 80Gb HDD and one 250Gb HDD ( all are s-ata ).
In which practical way they should be partitioned? I thought to setup OS on 80Gb HDD and /home on 250Gb HDD.
2) Which version of CentOS is currently the most stable for cPanel? I had an experince with CentOS 5, there were various problems with mail and mysql.. And now I want to install CentOS 4.6.
The server will have CentOS and cPanel installed.

Im running CentOS with apache 1.3 and trying to run Php5 with whm 11.2.0 and cpanel 11.6.0.
Ive tried everything from loading the least amount of modules to trying to go back to php 4.3 but nothing seems to work and i get the same error no matter which way i go.
My zend is the latest required for php5 too.

My customer wants a Windows system - but I'm rusty at best in Windows.I downloaded VC11 x86 Thread Safe (2013-Nov-13 20:57:44), unpacked it, moved it to it's own directory, edited httpd.conf (no auto installation) and confirmed it was working (localhost/index.html)
I added PHP and ran a PHP info - a little trouble getting the php.ini found.Apache seems to work fine on the local system - either localhost/index.html or nn.nn.nn.nn/.But remote browsers timeout when attempting to connect.
1. I've opened command as administrator and run httpd.exe directly
2. I've installed httpd.exe as a service, opened it's properties window and started it from there
3. Changed the listen port to 8080
4. netstat sees the remote browser with a waiting connection - and the local service
5. The Windows system is on my Mac network (same systems where the remote browser is) and I have transferred megabytes of files between the two systems.
In Component Services - the Apache2.4 service shows Log On As 'Local Service' - I'm guessing it should show as 'Network Service.I tried changing this - used the local user login - restarted the service. I didn't see any way to change it to 'Network Service'. Perhaps this is the problem?
ODDLY - the remote browser worked briefly - then failed with the same 'time out'.I'm guessing this is something simple that I don't understand about Windows - (then again, since I don't understand much about Windows, it could be complicated too).
Everything I found is the type of RAID controller installed. It's Adaptec 4800SAS SA-SCSI RAID-10. Nothing in /proc about types of HDDs.

I use Windows 7, running Apache VC10 in the XAMPP environment. It worked well, I am a newbie, it runned smoothly to programe a brief static page. Now I have everytime this logerror... I didn't change anything in the files and scripts of my apache folder...

Below are some results from various stats programs from one day's activity on our site. webaliser and awstats give sort of similar results (although still 6400 pageloads difference), but these results differ so much from what google (analytics) says.
can anyone think of an explanation for this? does google have a different definition of a visit compared to webaliser and awstats? for these latter two is visits = hits?
Webaliser 4000 visits, 17600 page views. Aw stats says 3800 visits, 24000 page views. google says 637, 1500 page views. adsense says 3,600 page views.
does anybody know if there is a possibility to circumvent godaddy´s pathetic stats they offer on shared accounts?
-I am not quite sure what tells you the unique visitors (always a good one to know )
-It doesn´t tell you what robots crawl your site. It just says: robots 28 (great!)
-The graphs are all reversed. Meaning that the now date is always on the very left hand corner of the x-axis towards the 0 intersection. This is pretty pathetic as it goes against anything human brains are accustomed to.
I´ve got to stop venting now. I would appreciate if somebody knows where I can find the unique visitors (hosts served maybe?) and how I can install a better stats program on Linux shared hosting at go daddy.

When I go through my AWStats under "Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)" I see several domains that have linked to me. When I visit these sites they are generally porn and drug sites that do not contain a link. Some of the sites redirect you to other sites. When you look up these domain names they are all from Russia.
These sites account for mulitple hits as high as +14.5%. These sites do not represent the content on my sites.
My questions are.
How do I stop this? I have found banning IP addresses does nothing.
How are they doing this?
Can this lead to your site being blacklisted?
Anything good out there that you recommend that does not need a lot of set up?

Recently started using HAProxy for load balancing / failover, and have the usage down. But, no matter how much I search I can't find one simple thing...
Anyone know of a way to customize the status page?
Seems to be a directive actually in the binary...I can't find a conf, include, anything to pass any customization to it. I'm talking about the /haproxy?stats URI.
I've a few similar video sites and haven't noticed much difference over the years with their stats. They usually average anywhere from 50-100mb downloaded per day.
Suddenly this month, one site is practically going off the scale...600-700mb...up to 1gb downloaded per day...I'm like...wtf?! The other site is reporting normal BW.
I'm using awstats with hotlink protection enabled.
Is something or someone draining my bandwidth?
