Setting Up A Main Domain And Nameservers
I have recently just purchased an unmanaged vps from poundhost. I have never used a vps before so we shelled out for a WHM control panel! The issue now is that we do not have a nameserver set up or any main domain to use as a nameserver.
We have the main IP address and two additional IP's given to us by poundhost, how do I use these to start hosting and managing websites?

VPS- With Main Domain Name
I know from past experiences, a VPS is not suppose to be setup on a sub domain for the main domain name account. My VPS was setup on a sub domain which is not allowing my domain name to resolve the with the DNS server. How to fix this issue? I have been speaking with support all day, and we have fixed a few minor issues but my major concern is yet to be fixed and I'm still sending support tickets ( and they are working on it ) but it's been an all day afair...any sugestions from the peanut gallery?

Subdomain To Main Domain Moving
I have a domain name as per my sig. I am also creating a subdomain totally in contrast with that site below. My primary domain has one page on it so i would like to: a) delete the one page on my primary domain b) Make the contents of my subdomain my primary domain. e.g my domain is www.info-peep.com, my sub will be example.info-peep.com........i would like to make example.info-peep.com : www.info-peep.com......that make sense, as really the sub will be my main site. Basically wanting to transfer the contents of my sub to my primary. So when people click info-peep.com, it will be the sub's site. Another thing to note is that i am using RVsitebuilder (WYSIWYG) that my web host provides. Also BEAR IN MIND the WYSIWYG editor does not allow me to move pages (sucks) or to copy the page contents.

Moving Main Domain To Another Server
I have my main domain (domain.com) and it is where all my sites and customer sites are pointed to (ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com). I just purchased a VPS and have made (domain.com) my main domain as I want it to be because of keeping the nameservers the same for my clients. My vision is this, I will transfer all the sites from my old cPanel account to my new DirectAdmin account. I have setup a time to let my clients know not to update any content on their sites. At that time I will then download the sites from the cPanel account to the DA account. I will then move my main domain (domain.com) over as well and then change the name server registries at namecheap. I understand some things can get lost in this switch, but ALL clients are aware of this and understand. They will still have access to the old server via the IP address to check for misdirected mail. Is this the simplest way to get this done? Is there a better way, with using the main domain?

Cpanel Main Domain Not Allowing Subdomains
When trying to make a subdomain on my main cpanel domain, through cpanel, it acts like it is making it, and adds the dns entry, but it does not work. All other domains work fine. I submitted a ticket to buycpanel, they asked for the login information this morning, and have not heard back from them. This has happened every since they installed cpanel. I am hoping its something simple that one of you knowledgeable people may know how to fix.

Lets say I have abcd.com as the main domain on cpanel. abcd.com has 10 subdomains. Basically what I want to do is when I do an addon domain or parked domain I want the subdomains to basically point to abcd.com automatically. Whenever I try to create a user account I get the following error Sorry, resellers are not permitted to create subdomains of the server's main domain My server domain is www.domain.com and reseller is trying to create a user account like new.domain.com . Email Being Picked Up As Spam From Hosted Domains. Main Domain Is Ok
i have a vps and although i can send mails without problem from my main root account, sending via any of the child accounts created for customers results in their email being picked up as spam (in hotmail at least). To clarify, mydomain.com is my main name. Email can send without problem, customersdomain.com, hosted on the same machine, when sending emails they are picked up as spam. The mx dns entries in the zone file are set (by default to) customersdomain.com. and for all the child domains customer1domain.com. etc. Do i need to ask the datacenter to add a reverse dns entry for mail.mydomain.com? Is this an issue with the mx records for the hosted domains? Should i change the hosted domaims mx entry on the customers domains to mail.mydomain.com? I know the ip isnt blacklisted because exactly the same email goes through when sending from the mydomain.com email addresses.

Setting Up Private Nameservers For Reseller
I have a VPS plan with DirectAdmin and 3 IPs and I wanted to setup private nameservers for two reseller accounts on my plan. I have the first IP assigned to the server and the other two as the nameservers for my vps. So with no free IPs, how would I setup private nameservers for my two reseller accounts? Apache Overloading Due To Requests To My Main Domain Name Server (DNS) Name
I currently have a web VPS hosted with FDCServers.net and after 5 days of switching to it i am getting massive HTTP requests. When i login to WHM and hit apache status i have many requests per second by multiple IP's that are going to pages that simple don't exist. Currently my hostname for the server is set at web-01.optical-hosting.com which is what the requests are being sent to. I am also having a DNS issue because when i put http://web-01.optical-hosting.com in the web browser it displays the first account's site under "list accounts" in cpanel. Can someone please help me fix both of these issue's? i will post an apache log in a second post as it is long. Also, these are from overseas. please someone help me with this i have Aim and Msn.

i have nameservers in my domain (let's say [url]n [url] that registered for my first vps, i want to make 2 more nameservers from my domain for my second vps [url]n[url]so i have 1 domain with 4 nameservers in 2 vps (2 ns in each vps), it would be like this. Same Domain And Nameservers, Two Servers
I have two VPS packages. Both are running exactly the same stuff - Centos 5.3, cPanel/WHM, etc One domain (example.com), already pointing to first server (server1) Nameservers (ns1 & ns2.example.com) are set up in WHM of server1. I then bought a second VPS (server2). I want to be able to set up subdomains of my main domain (sub.example.com) on the second VPS. I also want my existing nameservers to work for server2. This way, I can provide subdomain packages to people and utilise both servers, and I can also provide the same nameservers to people regardless of the server they are on. I went to the clustering section of the WHM's, I enabled, and I can see server1 in the WHM of server2, and the other way around. I selected Sync Changes under DNS Role. However I don't think that's really done anything. How can I get this to work? Sorry if I've written it in a confusing manner.

I have a domain: myname.com whose nameservers have been already update to the new host's nameservers: ns1.myhost.com and ns2.myhost.com The new NS for the domain was already propagated over 1 day ago. However, it seems that myname.com is not yet resolving at myhost. How can I check whether myname.com is on ns1.myhost.com nameservers? I have yet no shell access, and it is shared hosting.

New Domain - Can't Change DNS, Can't Use Nameservers,
I'm stuck. First let me explain how my current sites are setup. I have all of my personal domains through GoDaddy at the moment. I set each domain to point to GoDaddys default hosting nameservers. Then I create DNS A Records for my domain pointing to the IP of my webserver. That works. I recently purchased a domain name from a backordering service. This domain is with a different registrar. They do not offer any kind of managed DNS and will not create A records for me. My server is not setup as a nameserver so I can't do either. I also can't transfer the domain over to GoDaddy because of ICANNs two month rule. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Is there a service out there where I can point to their nameservers and they will send traffic to my servers IP? I'm not as sharp on this topic as I probably should be

I just got a VPS plan for the first time where I want to host several new websites. In the past I've used individual accounts to host a couple of other websites and haven't paid much attention to nameserver setup, just configured at my registrar whatever I was given from the hosting service. So, I got a brand new domain to act as the host of the rest of the domains I'm setting up: www.example.com. In the VPS I have setup this one as the default domain for nameservers: ns1.example.com ns2.example.com Question 1: - Can I setup ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com as the nameserververs for www.example.com ? i.e. nameserver is used for the same domain in which it is named. Even if this is possible, is it a good idea or would it be better to host it somewhere else? When I try to define those as the nameservers in Godaddy I get the error message Nameserver not registered. What am I missing? Other DNS questions Question 2: - If I host my nameservers in my VPS, I will need a separate IP for each one (ns1, ns2...and so on). Can I still use those IP's to actually host websites, or do I need additional IP's to host the actual sites? Any value in keeping each IP dedicated to a nameserver? For example: IP#1 = used for ns1 IP#2 = used for ns2 IP#1 = used for website 1 IP#2 = used for website 2 Question 3: - Are DNS backup services valuable if I host my own nameservers? Any suggestions on good quality providers? Price not an issue. Setting Up Domain Forwarding?
I've taken a reseller account from ResellerZOOM which came with WHM/cPanel. I've my own private nameservers(meaning I got my own IP). I've a domain that I want to be forwarded to my wordpress.com blog, just like domain registrars offer domain forwarding but the registrar I registered my domain with doesn't give domain forwarding. so I was thinking that maybe I can point the domain to my nameservers & then have it forwarded to my wordpress.com blog. The thing is that I haven't used WHM before & I don't know how to do it, create some DNS zone maybe!! The only way I know is to create an account for that domain, allot it some diskspace & then redirect via .htaccess file, which would be overkill IMHO. I know it can be done without creating an account, some other way.

its been long time since I have set one and its been really bugging with the feather theme interface, which I haven't used before now, here is the pt. I have 3 ips , I want the main ip to be unique i.e assuming .2, .3 and .4 are the the ips we have ben provided with, where .2 is the main ip of the server (lxadmin) now, in the dns template, I have 6 options where ip has to be assigned, as - base, cp, mail, ns, ns1, ns2 I have set the base,cp, mail, ips to .3 I don't have a clue on what to set for the ns, ns1, ns2 I want .3 to be shown as the pinged ip when site is pinged. We have set .3 and .4 as the nameserver ips in the registrar, so do I need to provide .3 as the ns1 ip and .4 as the ns2 ips or both the ips have to be .3 and what should be the ns ip?

Heres what Ive done created a new user and set their home directory as /home/<user>. I then made a public_html folder within their home dir. Then I went into httpd.conf, and added a virtual host for that domain with the document root to the public_html dir i created . At this point, what is there left to do? Setting Up New Domain With Hosting Package
I ordered a domain from Name and a shared hosting package from Hawk Host. How do I set them up so they work together? I thought all I had to do was add the Hawk Host name servers to my Name account but that doesn't seem to be helping. I don't have any webpages up yet but I do have some files uploaded to be used as a redirect for a game server. The redirect isn't loading properly most of the time and when I type my domain name into a browser my directory won't show up either, just the parking page. I ordered both of these last week.

Domain Name Server (DNS) Redirection / Setting Up Zone(s)
I have a quick question about some DNS zones I'm trying to set up for a customer. I figured I would try asking the community before bugging our top-level admins (they have enough to do already, and I'd rather learn this myself). We have a customer for whom we are managing their DNS. The site is actually hosted elsewhere, but the DNS originates on our server. They have another site that is hosted with us, and they would like to set up a subdomain redirect from the remotely-hosted site to the site hosted on our hardware. So, the situation looks something like this: example.com : hosted elsewhere (primary IP not ours), DNS with us FooSite.example.com : redirect this to www.FooSite.com I could edit httpd.conf, but it would be easiest (for firewall reasons at the moment) if I could enter in the proper zones via WHM zone editor. I'll be able to see the results either way. I tried setting up the 'A' and 'CNAME' records, and I got as far as directing the 'A' records for the subdomain to the local IP, but I'm not sure how to finish it off (assuming I'm going down the right path). My own knowledge level in this regard is somewhere between novice and intermediate (which is why I have partners and admins ).

I have a domain name from godaddy and recently got a host plan in hostgator. As this is the first time I use hosting, it is very confusing how to set it up properly. So far what I figured out and was able to set is the DNS in godaddy and the add-on domain in hostgator. So now I was able to point 'MyDomain' to direct to 'hostgatorDomain/MyFolder/' (names just for example). The problem is that masking is not turned on and who ever clicks 'MyDomain' will get to the right location, but the address will change to 'hostgatorDomain/MyFolder/'. How to do the set up so the URL will not change?

Will the nameservers work if the nameservers are pointed to a parking page? For example: I need to change my nameservers to ns1.mywebhost.com and ns2.mywebhost.com (nameservers are made up) These nameservers are from my web hosting service provider. This is the scenario, domain.com are setup on server1, however server2 also has the same profile of domain.com as we use ns3 and ns4 using domain.com. If I understand correctly, on the main physical server, we cannot install any firewall, so customers in VPS can open any port on their VPS. So, I am wondering about the security of the main server? Main Site Page Display
About the 28th September the host that I was with decided to move servers and did not inform me of this. They tried moving my site and after 18 hours of being offline decided not move my site. It came back offline, only the main page displayed but nothing else works, if you click on anything it goes to 404 page error. Only problem is, the page is displaying data up to 23rd September. I have a blog and a forum connected and both seem to have lost all the data from the 23rd to 28th September. I have since moved host since the previous host not only did not inform me that they were moving, they didnt even bother taking a backup. I have been with my new host for over a week now so the propogation is definitely complete. Now the problem is whenever I open my blog, it keeps pointing to 23rd September (I have added a lot of posts since then). If I refresh the page, then it will show the latest posts. This is not a problem with the forum though, it works fine.
