Is there any way to check or stop this misuse?

When Services Are Down, Notify Me

Aug 28, 2007

What is the best way to get notified if a service has issues. I know I get emails from cpanel if a service fails, but for some reason for mail, it shows ipmap/pop is up but email is not being delivered.

I usually reset IMAP Server, Mail Server (Exim) and POP3 Server then everything seems to kick in and any undelivered mail gets delivered.

What logs can i check so find the issues, and also is the some type of listener i can use to notify me when there are issues with the mail server?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Set Master NS (SOA) Record Properly (BIND Does Not Notify NS In SOA)

Oct 24, 2014

How to get plesk (12) to set the SOA record properly on existing domains?

Let me explain the issue first. We use PowerDNS supermaster mode as slave servers. The way this works is we configure PowerDNS so that it sees the plesk server as a so called supermaster.

When a so called supermaster notifies the slave servers on a zone update, if it doesn't exist it just adds the zone and pulls it in. This works very nice and without any scripting required (there's only the issue of removing them, I just have a script that deletes all domains that haven't been able to update in 2 weeks every day from the database).

The only issue here is that BIND does *NOT* ever notify the nameserver listed in the SOA. The nameserver listed in the SOA should be the master (and hence - thus plesk itself) and it being a master it should be where the changes occur and notifying it isn't necessary thus, which is why BIND doesn't do that.

Unfortunately plesk doesn't seem to grasp this concept. It will happily put any nameserver in the SOA record. Have adjusted the template and it seems to work ok for new domains now (not sure how reliably though), but it's a major pain for the existing ones. It's very hard to update them properly.

Reapplying template -> no change to master NS/SOA
Switching mode to slave and back to master -> no change to master NS/SOA
Resetting to default -> no change to master NS/SOA

The only way I've found so far is to delete the records manually, add them again and hope it doesn't change the order (yes it does this a lot, you'll have the correct order listed, click apply and the order just changes. Some times it adds them to the bottom of the list, some times to the top - not confusing at all).

Plesk really should be taught that if it's master, it should be the one in the SOA. Whilst my issue is larger due to the supermaster and slaves not creating the zone (and hence my slave not functioning), it is an issue in any setup because a slave listed as SOA will not be notified and doesn't pick up on the changes right away. Depending on the refresh times it might take quite some time for the slave to pick up the change then, which isn't desirable either as it will leave you with a slave that still returns incorrect records.

Setting Up VPS Account Email

Aug 5, 2008

I'm using GoDaddy's "Total DNS Control", but I'm confused on how to set up my MX settings at Godaddy.

For example, if my site is mydomain.com what do I enter for the MX settings at Godaddy for the:

Priority?
Hostname?
and "Enter goes to address"?

I don't want to use Gmail because they're strict about sending emails to your vbulletin board members. They'll think it's spam.

My control panel is LXadmin.

Setting Up Email In Outlook With Cpanel Configurations

Nov 9, 2007

I'm having problems setting up email in Outlook with cpanel configurations. I've exhausted google trying to find an answer to this. Maybe someone here can help or has had a similiar problem.

I've set up accounts in cpanel (eg: info @ example.com), have the incoming mail server and outgoing mail server as mail.example.com and I even checked off the "server required authentication" but I still can't receive emails. I changed the outgoing server to smtp.internetprovider.com and it still doesn't work. I get a prompt asking for Network Server Password and click ok with the login and password but it keep popping up.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: (Notify When Disk Space / Traffic Usage Reaches) Sending To Customers Not Admin

Jan 29, 2015

I migrated from one server running Plesk 10.4.4 Update #59 to a new server running Plesk 11 which I then updated to 12.0.18 Update #32. Since moving to Plesk 12 the "Notify when disk space/traffic usage reaches" emails have been being sent to our customers set up on the server whereas previously they were sent to the server admin email address.

Is this a change with this version?

Setting Up Free Email Service And Storing Mails In MySQL

Feb 14, 2007

I have a busy dating website with 30 000 registered users and ~200-600 users online all the time. I would like to offer free email with ~10 MB mailbox to all users.

I have an idea to use scripts provided by b1gmail.de. Its similar to Hivemail or Socketmail. It uses only one POP3 catch-all mailbox and stores all emails in MySQL database, including attachments.

My worries are about MySQL. If I have 30 000 users and each user has some 5000 messages in his/her mailbox:
30 000 x 5 000 = 150 000000

That's 150 million rows in one table!

I know, not all users will have 50000 messages in their mailboxes, but the number of users increases about +2000/month.

I can't imaggine how long time will need MySQL to find messages for each user in the table with 150 000000 rows.

I don't know - maybe it's not a problem at all. I just never had such large tables and I don't know if it's possible at all.

Another problem: I have Fedora Core 2 installed and even don't know yet if it supports files larger than 2 GB.

Maybe it's better to set-up normal POP3 mailboxes for all users instead of using one catch-all box and storing data in MySQL?

do not post warnings about spammers. In the beginning I'll provide email addresses only to "gold" members. I opened this thread because I don't want to set-up a system which will hang after a couple of months because MySQL will not be able to handle it or I will have other unknown problems.

Cpanel Domain Name Server (DNS) Setting For Email On 2 Seperate Server

Nov 7, 2009

This is the scenario, domain.com are setup on server1, however server2 also has the same profile of domain.com as we use ns3 and ns4 using domain.com. This works fine with the nameserver setup on server2.

However I encounter problems as the emails from server2 won't reach server1 as there are duplicate profile on server2.

My question is how do I setup the DNS in cpanel/whm from server2 so the emails from server2 will reach server1?

Server1 (www.domain.com)
ns1.domain.com
ns2.domain.com

Server2
ns3.domain.com
ns4.domain.com

CDN With Secure File Delivery

Jan 15, 2009

Does anyone know of a CDN that can provide secure file delivery for 100+ people? I'm looking for something that will allow me to send product download links to customers and have them only download the files once each. They mustn't be able to view or distribute the actual file location for their friends to download.

I'm looking for a pay as you go service with no sign up fee.

I know simpleCDN offers pay as you go, at a rate of $0.09 per GB with no sign up fee, but they only seem to offer http and https delivery at present, which is half way there, but it lacks the secure delivery.

I know Edgecast offers a 'secure token' system that allows download links to be sent out that can only be used once. However, they have a whopping $550 sign up fee, and then a whopping $550 per TB transferred. This has the secure delivery, but lacks the pricing my company can afford.

Does anyone know of any more CDNs that have this secure download link function?

The 'secure token' functionality of Edgecast is a good idea, but even a CDN that just allows you the standard function of creating multiple FTP accounts with different permissions will do to trick.

Burstnet And Server Delivery

Mar 7, 2008

We use them because we can offer good value for money to customers, yes you get what you pay for but they cant even deliver within their own estimates.

I contacted them on the 5th after 24 hours of waiting and a customer on my back, just enquiring where the server was.

I received the following reply from Shawn A:

I would expect delivery on this tomorrow afternoon...

We are closing this ticket out at this time.

If the issue is still not corrected, or you require further assistance with this matter, please re-open this ticket, and we will gladly assist you...

Fine, i will wait another 24 hours. Nothing!

It is now the 7th, the customer has decided to cancel the order and they have still not done ANYTHING.

I have sent them another reply to the ticket:

I had a customer cancel this server because it has take you so long What is going on wthat it takes you ages to set up a server that is probably sitting in a rack somewhere? Please dont take an age to reply and please let me know a setup time so i can at least offer another customer and instant server and not 36 hours to whenever-burstnet-gets-its-***-in-gear

I am still awaiting a reply.. although its useless now.

I know its already known on this forum but Caveat emptor!

Content Delivery Network

We dove into this project blindly, and now it seems we won't be able to stream the video b/c of pricing issues. We have a 40mb flash video @ 500bps, our client gets 30,000 visits a month, ~1500/day. Now we need to find a provider that will host the video and not break our budget. I contacted Lime Light and they gave me a quote at $1200/month, which is too high!

SmartScreen is the spam filtering technology developed and operated by Microsoft. SmartScreen is built around the technology of machine learning. SmartScreen's filters are trained to recognize what is spam and what isn't spam. In short, we filter incoming emails that look like spam. I am not able to go into any specific details about what these filters specifically entail, as this would render them useless.
