Primary Domain Change For WHM Account
I have a hostee who as part of an out-of-court settlement, needs to change the primary domain they host on. The domain they're switching to is already a parked domain on their account. At first blush, it seems like it would be pretty easy, but now I'm concerned about their email. Both of the principals of the company use Horde extensively for webmail, and as such I have files on the server for their email accounts. What I was thinking about doing is this:
1. Stop parking the "new" domain on the account.
2. Change the account from using the "old" domain in WHM to the "new" domain by modifying the account in WHM.
3. Forwarding email sent to user@old.domain to user@new.domain, in CPanel.
4. Assorted changes on website to account for the new domain - published email addresses, new SSL cert, things like that.
My concern is in how to move the mail files, currently set up to be for user@old.domain, to be readable by Horde as user@new.domain, so it's seamless to the users. We will be keeping the old domain under our control, but not using it to point to the site any more; I just don't want to have to tell them "OK, to get your old email, you have to check this address, and to get new email, you have to check this one."
Would my plan above actually accomplish that? Is there a better way within a WHM/CPanel framework to accomplish what I need without losing email or access to it? What am I missing?

Whm/Cpanel 11, Nameservers In Create Account Will Not Change
I changed my nameservers from my last domain, I deleted all the dns entries etc... and updated my hostname etc... But, when I go to create a new cpanel account, it still shows up with my own nameservers and making it with my old nameservers. I tried going to /etc/nameserverips and they were the new nameservers. Im not sure how to fix this, any ideas?

Server Primary Domain And DNS
I got a new dedicated server, and I put the primary domain name to be zeonwebhosting.com. However, when I setup the nameservers, and go to GoDaddy.com and NameCheap.com to change the nameservers on my domains, I get an "Errors were detected" on GoDaddy.com and a "nRRPResponseCode 531" on NameCheap. I fixed everything in WHM and got a server administrator to fix some things for me, and it didn't work yet. Now I am thinking that the problem might not be with the server, but with the domain. ZeonWebHosting.com is registered at GoDaddy.com, and since I was not sure what nameservers I should put as it is the primary domain name, I used the parked nameservers on GoDaddy, and used the Total DNS feature to change the A and MX Records to point to my server's IPs. I tried putting the ns1.zeonwebhosting.com and ns2.zeonwebhosting.com DNSs on GoDaddy, but still I got the "Errors were detected" error. I tried almost everything possible. I even redid cPanel just to make sure that everything was OK with the cPanel configuration. Also there is another problem with the server. I can't seem to be able to delete Nameservers from "Networking Setup > Nameserver IPs" in WHM. I get this message when trying to delete one of the nameservers: "Sorry, the nameserver ip 66.79.191.196 cannot be removing since it is still registered with an ICANN register."

Change Host, Change Domain And Getting Search Engines Up To Speed
Has anyone helped clients transition from one domain to another? Maybe dissolving a partnership or renaming their company... so a new domain name has been registered and a new website created. 2 Issues: #1 Using .htaccess 301 redirect We used the following command line in their old website's htaccess file Redirect 301 / [url] The goal was to get people try to visit any page of their old website (i.e. OldWebsite.com/contact.html) redirected to their new website (i.e. NewWebsite.com/contact.html). Isn't that supposed to change the address bar's URL, too? For some reason, I visit their old site and I seem to be redirected to their new website but the address bar still has their old domain name? Something is going on??? #2 Having their new company name for 2 years now. People can enter her new company name in Google, MSN or Yahoo. Her new company name appears in the search results but has the old domain name associated with it. We are trying to get rid of any reference to that old domain name? What's the easiest way to do this? So what people see in search engines is: New Company Short Meta Description www.OldDomain.com What steps did I miss in this transition? What steps do I have to take on their old website/old web server to control it's appearance on search engines and make sure people get to the new website?

Primary Server Using Script To Upload On 2nd Server Without A Domain
i am currently with a host, hosting my important sites. I am now going to purchase some space from another host purely for storage purposes and bandwidth usage as they are within my budget. Now i have my primary domain with my main host, and i would like to have a script or link from my current host which leads onto my 2nd host for users to upload their images or files. Now i have a problem, the second host that i will have will not have a registered domain attached to it, but rather it will be just storage. I would prefer to have a subdomain from my primary host pointing to my second host. The problem is where will the subdomain point to? Or will it even work that way without having to purchase another domain?

Change Needed To Parked Account MX Forward?
II just transfered domain hosting from my clients old host to my server. The new website is up-and-running without problems. At his request, I use a MX --> A redirect to send his mail to his local server at his business, where he wishes to receive it. It is setup as follows: Main domain (xyz.net) MX ->> extmail.xyz.net. extmail "A" ->> 99.99.999.99 (at the clients local server) Here is the PROBLEM. The client has a secondary parked account that just directs to the main account. The client has email MX forwarding from that account, which does not seem to be forwarding correctly after this changeover described above --- it is not being delivered. Question: Do I have to change the MX pointer at the secondary domain to point ->> to extmail.xyz.net? it is currently set to point to mail.xyz.net.

WHM - Account Expiration
I wish to auto shut the expired accounts on server, cpanel does not have any such functionality so i could not do this. Once i posted in this forum and recommendation was to install the billing software for cpanel/whm. After I found they are comprehensive products and not easy to use/install/troubleshoot. I just want to set the expiration of domains in WHM so when they complete their tenure they should be closed it self. Could you people advise what can i do this with minimum efforts? I dont need any billing system just to handle expiration of accounts. I would appreciate if you can give me a stable solution with product name as i am concerned about my server stability and security as well. [url]

Allowing Whm Installed And Use In Share Hosting Account
This is one of my thoughts and a valid one based on my own experience. One of the problems with shared hosting account that comes with multiple domain/web hosting, is that all the hosted domains shared one single cpanel and one root directory where all the addon domains directories and files are all jammed up together with the maindomain's directories and files. Notably is some php scripted sites running on addon domains were unable to function effectively. One such example is using imagevue - a photo slideshow/gallery script. The problem of no photos or photos unable to load/show when the site is called directly from the addon domain [url] However, when accessed through the maindomain [url] it has no such problem and the photos showed up. With the above incident and having tried on three other different webhosts, it's clear that something has to be done or otherwise, having multiple domain hosting has no real benefits if you consider the above matters. As such, the only solution I can think of is to install whm on our shared hosting account so that we can have each added domain to have its own independent cpanel. So long as we are not doing any reselling activities, there is no reason for the webhost to object or refused. If your webhost is genuinely care about you and truly to provide an enhanced and efficient webhosting experience, then whm is one way to overcome any shortcomings from existing facility of using a single cpanel for all your multiple addon domains. Of course, another alternative is to use subdomains from the main domain and redirect all your addon domain sites to the subdomains. That would really defeat the purpose of having addon domains in the first place. Also, why should we? since the hosting account is for multiple domain hosting. Webhosts offering so-called unlimited domain hosting or limited multiple domain hosting on a single cpanel, should review the existing known issues such as the one mentioned above, and consider using whm to overcome such issues, thus truly provide a pleasant and effective multiple domain web hosting experience to its customers. Webhosts should tweak and enhance its existing features/softwares/hardwares to improve the overall webhosting services.

IP Address And Subdomain Missing On WHM Account List
After changing options in "tweak settings", domains section, I found my site IP Address is missing, subdomain configuration also disappear. Print screen attached. - Add proxy VirtualHost to httpd.conf to automatically redirect unconfigured cpanel, webmail, webdisk and whm subdomains to the correct port (requires mod_rewrite and mod_proxy) - Automatically create cpanel, webmail, webdisk and whm proxy subdomain DNS entries for new accounts. When this is initially enabled it will add appropriate proxy subdomain DNS entries to all existing accounts. (Use /scripts/proxydomains to reconfigure the DNS entries manually) - Allow users to create cpanel, webmail, webdisk and whm subdomains that override automatically generated proxy subdomains Those following configuration is ** set by default. I have never changing option in "tweak settings" after 1-20 automatic update to STABLE version since I tweaked the WHM from first time installed. Domain cannot be accessed from http port, subdomain disappear.

WHM Not Listing Account, DNS Etc, Missing Files, File System
I recently had an issue where my box wasnt listing accounts (on logging into WHM for the first time it would, thereafter browsing different functions in WHM it would fail to list any accounts), would not list any zone items when editing DNS zones and in general was acting very strange. I think the tech support chap narrowed it down to zero free inodes on the filesystem (i was even getting errors when editing files with 'vi'). This was increased for the VPS and all issues seemed to be resolved... However named and httpd were not starting after reboots. Again on looking closely named and httpd were missing from /etc/init.d (on CentOS 5.3)! This is very strange and i certainly didnt modify those nor delete such critical files. For a second opinion, is there any cPanel script that can be ran to fix the issues, i am concerned other things have been affected but havent manifested themselves yet (other files deleted etc). Does cPanel update script create the init.d files or is this done by the CentOS operating systems itself? Are these files modified during a cPanel update script? These init.d files for named and httpd have been readded (copied across from another box) and it seems to be ok again, but ideas on howto proceed much appreciated, as i mentioned i dont want any nasty supprises!

New Domain - Can't Change DNS, Can't Use Nameservers,
I'm stuck. First let me explain how my current sites are setup. I have all of my personal domains through GoDaddy at the moment. I set each domain to point to GoDaddys default hosting nameservers. Then I create DNS A Records for my domain pointing to the IP of my webserver. That works. I recently purchased a domain name from a backordering service. This domain is with a different registrar. They do not offer any kind of managed DNS and will not create A records for me. My server is not setup as a nameserver so I can't do either. I also can't transfer the domain over to GoDaddy because of ICANNs two month rule. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Is there a service out there where I can point to their nameservers and they will send traffic to my servers IP? I'm not as sharp on this topic as I probably should be

WHM Limit On # Of Emails Per Domain Per Hour
My server currently has 500 set for this parameter. However, I have some scripts that send out reminders and the number of emails will certainly exceed this limit. So this leads to some questions... What will happen if my scripts try to send out more than the limit? What happens when the limit is exceeded? Do the scripts "crash", or do they just keep running? Do the "over quota" emails just get discarded or do they get queued? How does this affect performance? Or maybe it doesn't? Does the email queue get clogged up if it has too many emails? What could be bad about increasing the limit - say to 2000? Would this create performance problems for my server? I have a couple sites that I'm hosting and I would prefer to keep the limit of 500. However, how can I increase the limit for my own scripts (domains)? Or, perhaps this option has nothing to do with performance and it's strictly in place as a security measure to prevent hosted accounts from spamming. I searched for information concerning this issue and couldn't find anything. The cPanel/WHM forum doesn't say what the parameter is for, just how to set it.

Someone changed pure-ftp setttings somewhere which I don't know how he did it and I actually don't know if he helped or not on this problem. At least , ftp is working. But I really do want to know the relevancies between these matters. Use A GMail Account? Watch Your Domain
After reading numerous accounts (27 and counting) of people's domains being stolen I decided to investigate the situation more closely. What follows is my personal investigation. Without jumping to any conclusions as to how all of these domains were hijacked, I gathered the facts and sat back to see where the common denominators were. All of the domains had GMail accounts listed in whois. Many of the domains were hosted with GoDaddy Many of them had Alexa rankings of less than 10,000 While the GoDaddy connection was interesting, the fact that all of the hijacked domains had GMail accounts stood out as the real common thread. It's still not clear how the hijacker was able to obtain access to the GMail accounts it is clear that using a GMail account for your domain registrations may not be a wise decision. We have seen infectious code on websites designed to either steal cookies or check to see if the visitor also has GMail opened in another window. A few cases involved visiting a webpage while GMail was opened and the webpage doing a POST to a GMail interface and injecting an email filter into the visitor's GMail settings. Typically the injection would include filters that would automatically skip the inbox and forward emails from register.com, godaddy.com and dreamhost.com to another GMail email account. Then with forwarding set and knowledge of the registered email address, the hijacker would have use GoDaddy's website to obtain the customer number, which requires a verification email. Armed with that information, the hijacker would go back to GoDaddy and have an Authorization Code for password reset, sent to the registered email address. The password would be sent to the email address, which would be forwarded to the hijacker and then they could move the domain to another registrar, change the website and benefit from the traffic to that website. Or in some of these recent cases, the hijacker asked for $2,000 in order to "give" the domain back. How did this happen? Creating a filter in your GMail account sends a request to the GMail server farm. The request is an obfuscated URL with each section identifying the filter, the account, etc. Many of the parameters passed in the URL can be generated accurately but one parameter needs the cookie from the account holder's computer. They can obtain this quite easily with any general cookie stealing technique (there are many). What can you do? For starters, this isn't the first exploit of GMail accounts. I would switch all of my domains to be registered to a different email address. Secondly, I would pay the extra money to have your domain information listed as Private. This way your contact information will not show up on whois searches. GoDaddy offers Protected Registration if you're already listed with them. Third, if you do use GMail, check your filters often. And check your deleted items as well. You never know what you might find in there. Anyone here have any stories to share about domains hijacked?

WHM: Domain Name Server (DNS) Sometimes Resolves To Wrong IP
I have a dedicated WHM server (qumbia.org) with several CPanel accounts, among them: - qumibiao (qumbia.org). - qumbiaca (qumbia.ca). Both of these accounts were set to the same ip (70.86.221.122). 15 days ago, I changed qumbiaca to the ip 70.86.221.123 Since, some requests (about 1% of the total according to my logs) for qumbia.ca are still serving up what's in /home/qumbiao/public_html I know next to nothing about this, but perhaps some ISPs have cached the 70.86.221.122 IP and are directing requests there? Still, why wouldn't WHM, upon receiving such a request, resolve it to the right address, it being on the same server? My Time to live record is set to 24 hours on my DNS, and the expire header set to 41 days. Might it be a good idea to set up a new DNS (NS3.QUMBIA.ORG) on my WHM and give that DNS to qumbia.ca? Would this force the ISPs to reset their cache? Or does the problem lie elsewhere? Should I just wait out the 41-day expire period and hope for the best?
