Primary Domain Change For WHM Account

Feb 27, 2007

I have a hostee who as part of an out-of-court settlement, needs to change the primary domain they host on. The domain they're switching to is already a parked domain on their account. At first blush, it seems like it would be pretty easy, but now I'm concerned about their email. Both of the principals of the company use Horde extensively for webmail, and as such I have files on the server for their email accounts. What I was thinking about doing is this:

1. Stop parking the "new" domain on the account.
2. Change the account from using the "old" domain in WHM to the "new" domain by modifying the account in WHM.
3. Forwarding email sent to user@old.domain to user@new.domain, in CPanel.
4. Assorted changes on website to account for the new domain - published email addresses, new SSL cert, things like that.

My concern is in how to move the mail files, currently set up to be for user@old.domain, to be readable by Horde as user@new.domain, so it's seamless to the users. We will be keeping the old domain under our control, but not using it to point to the site any more; I just don't want to have to tell them "OK, to get your old email, you have to check this address, and to get new email, you have to check this one."

Would my plan above actually accomplish that? Is there a better way within a WHM/CPanel framework to accomplish what I need without losing email or access to it? What am I missing?

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Change Primary Domain

Jun 6, 2014

My customer has two domains, one of it is a alias-domain.

He wants to set this alias to his primary domain, so how can i change it?

I tried it with deleting the alias, but i can't find the "button" for changing the primary domain?

Have I to delete the complete abonnement and reinstall all files and databases?

I know, that I have to change some paths in files, but it would be easier, than to dump everything and upload again...

Forward Mail From Parked Domain To Primary Domain - How? MX Record?

May 6, 2007

OK, I am confused. I have one domain that is parked on top of another domain. I would like Mail that comes to the parked domain to be automatically forwarded to the same user name at the primary domain.

Can I change a DNS or MX record to facilitate this?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: How To Remove Or Change Primary IP Address

Sep 19, 2014

In Tools & Settings --> IP Adresses I got two IP Adresses: (primary, bold)

Since the first IP adress is just the internal IP adress, I'd like to remove it, but I get the message that it's not allowed because it would be the primary IP.

Plesk has no option to just switch the primary IP adress, so what's the way to do it with plesk12?

Server Primary Domain And DNS

Aug 15, 2007

I got a new dedicated server, and I put the primary domain name to be

However, when I setup the nameservers, and go to and to change the nameservers on my domains, I get an "Errors were detected" on and a "nRRPResponseCode 531" on NameCheap.

I fixed everything in WHM and got a server administrator to fix some things for me, and it didn't work yet. Now I am thinking that the problem might not be with the server, but with the domain. is registered at, and since I was not sure what nameservers I should put as it is the primary domain name, I used the parked nameservers on GoDaddy, and used the Total DNS feature to change the A and MX Records to point to my server's IPs.

I tried putting the and DNSs on GoDaddy, but still I got the "Errors were detected" error. I tried almost everything possible. I even redid cPanel just to make sure that everything was OK with the cPanel configuration.

Also there is another problem with the server. I can't seem to be able to delete Nameservers from "Networking Setup > Nameserver IPs" in WHM. I get this message when trying to delete one of the nameservers:
"Sorry, the nameserver ip cannot be removing since it is still registered with an ICANN register."

Plesk Automation :: Database Resource On Primary Branded Domain

Aug 16, 2014

I added a mail resource and a database resource to the "branding" service template, and made sure the provisioning attributes match up to an actual node. I also made sure that under the resources for the branding template the "Branding Hosting (management node)" -> "Number of MySQL databases" is "1" and the "MySQL Database" is unlimited.

Ive made a primary branded domain assigned to the administrator account. When I then login to the account, I see that the mail resource is added and I can add email accounts. However, the database resource does not seem to be activated. Indeed, if I try to add a application in the domain that requires a database, it fails because there is not a database resource available.

The database server is a separate node from the management server.

I do not see any running tasks waiting, and the events log doesnt mention anything about provisioning a database.

Separately but tangentially related, once the account is up, I dont see it listed as an active subscription under the service template. I should see it there, right?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Subdomains Redirect To Primary Domain After Repairing Installation

Jan 23, 2015

Up until a week ago we had some troubles with package dependencies on our dedicated server running on Ubuntu 14.04.1. Plesk was totally out of reach, displaying 502 Bad Gateway pages and some other weird error on login_up.php3.

I fixed the dependencies by removing a lot of packages (including Plesk) and finally managed to reinstall Plesk using the autoinstaller, then repaired it using "/usr/local/psa/bootstrapper/pp12.0.18-bootstrapper/" (IIRC this whole bootstrapper folder was not present before reinstallation).

Now, after restoring our data from a backup pretty much everything works except for the subdomains. They all redirect to the primary domain's vhost (307 Redirect) for some reason.

"/var/log/apache2/access.log" shows the following after issuing a HTTP request to any subdomain:

<ip> - - [23/Jan/2015:23:15:31 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 307 244 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:35.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/35.0"
<ip> - - [23/Jan/2015:23:15:31 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 13397 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:35.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/35.0"

I have tried enabling and disabling nginx, it did not work. Then I just kept it disabled because it makes our forum think that everyone has the server's IP (because of the reverse proxy thing I assume).

Oh, and I should say: using HTTPS anywhere just gets me a 502 Bad Gateway error.

Change Host, Change Domain And Getting Search Engines Up To Speed

Feb 5, 2008

Has anyone helped clients transition from one domain to another? Maybe dissolving a partnership or renaming their company... so a new domain name has been registered and a new website created.

2 Issues:

#1 Using .htaccess 301 redirect
We used the following command line in their old website's htaccess file

Redirect 301 / [url]

The goal was to get people try to visit any page of their old website (i.e. redirected to their new website (i.e. Isn't that supposed to change the address bar's URL, too? For some reason, I visit their old site and I seem to be redirected to their new website but the address bar still has their old domain name? Something is going on???

#2 Having their new company name for 2 years now. People can enter her new company name in Google, MSN or Yahoo. Her new company name appears in the search results but has the old domain name associated with it. We are trying to get rid of any reference to that old domain name? What's the easiest way to do this? So what people see in search engines is:

New Company
Short Meta Description

What steps did I miss in this transition?

What steps do I have to take on their old website/old web server to control it's appearance on search engines and make sure people get to the new website?

Primary Server Using Script To Upload On 2nd Server Without A Domain

Oct 20, 2007

i am currently with a host, hosting my important sites. I am now going to purchase some space from another host purely for storage purposes and bandwidth usage as they are within my budget.

Now i have my primary domain with my main host, and i would like to have a script or link from my current host which leads onto my 2nd host for users to upload their images or files. Now i have a problem, the second host that i will have will not have a registered domain attached to it, but rather it will be just storage.

I would prefer to have a subdomain from my primary host pointing to my second host. The problem is where will the subdomain point to? Or will it even work that way without having to purchase another domain?

Change Needed To Parked Account MX Forward?

Aug 17, 2006

II just transfered domain hosting from my clients old host to my server. The new website is up-and-running without problems. At his request, I use a MX --> A redirect to send his mail to his local server at his business, where he wishes to receive it. It is setup as follows:

Main domain (
MX ->>
extmail "A" ->> 99.99.999.99 (at the clients local server)

Here is the PROBLEM. The client has a secondary parked account that just directs to the main account. The client has email MX forwarding from that account, which does not seem to be forwarding correctly after this changeover described above --- it is not being delivered.

Question: Do I have to change the MX pointer at the secondary domain to point ->> to it is currently set to point to
