Any dedicated server web hosts going to use the new 100 core CPU that is available next year?
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter the second price hike.
I see there are alot people moving.
So i just want to see how many percent.
Warning!
This is a very positive--well, basically a rave--about my experience with a web hosting service today.
Please, read no further if you only like to focus on the negative in life!
After being with relio.com for about a year and a half, turns out I needed help transitioning some domains to a new account. And turns out, weberz.com is now who I have to contact for support because they bought relio. Turns out there were some things I just couldn't do for myself, and I ended up on the phone with Rob, the system admin today. Talk about great help! He stayed on the phone, patiently working through all of my issues until they were resolved. Afterwards I decided to poke through their support forums to learn more about a company that has this level/quality of service, and I was even more confident that I am with a good web hosting service that can grow with me over time.
I logged into my email to check for my nightly logwatch report (at 12am).
Nothing.
So I log into ssh and manually run it, get greeted with this:
You have old files in your logwatch tmpdir (/var/cache/logwatch):
logwatch.zcTV3hC0
The directories listed above were most likely created by a
logwatch run that failed to complete successfully. If so, you
may delete these directories.
I last ran logwatch around 10:30pm, it worked fine.
I try to run logwatch again, same error.. except now there's another temp file showing beneath the first.
I go ahead and delete both of them, run logwatch again...it worked. I also got the other reports from when I tried running logwatch manually and was stopped with this error.
I've never had this happen before, so I'm curious as to what caused it? Logwatch is in cron.daily and has never missed a single report.
Just typical data corruption (as can happen with any computer file) or could something have interfered with its processing at 12?
I was reading through my logs and came across about 100 attempts to login to my server via ssh. They were all blocked, but should I get these IPs blacklisted or what? I've already blocked em from the server, but should I try and blacklist them?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI used to recommend Hostway.com to other companies, as they host our eCommerce site as a shared hosting site and their uptime and customer service were very good.
But, NEVER AGAIN. Today, they have been down ALL DAY since around 10:30 am (they would not give me the exact time) and so has our business site! I called twice and the wait time the first time for a tech support person was over 1 hour! IN-FRIGGING-CREDIBLE! The 2nd call a few hours later was at least a 45 minute wait.
The answer I got was that they had a hard drive crash and my site is unlucky enough to live on that drive. Understandable, but their explanation that it takes ALL DAY to restore a hard drive from tape is incredible (or havent they heard of RAID systems??). In any case, our site came back up for a few minutes and is back down again. Downtime since 10:30 or so is approaching 6 hours now!
So, I will no longer recommend HOSTWAY to anyone for any reason. The incredible wait times on the phone line are ridiculous and we have lost $$$ today due to this outage and associated loses from adwords, too.
Finally, it seems that Hostway's other problem is that they are trying to offer too many other kinds of services besides just hosting (which they used to be good at), and now they suck at their core basic service. That's my two cents.
Any recommendations for a replacement hosting service that is reliable and well known?
I think I pay about $50/3 months for Hostway.
the salesman claims he will "give you uptime in the high nines", then the VPS account he just sold you goes offline three times the next day for about an hour each time. You know this for an absolute fact because every user on the 50 domains you just configured on the VPS has called you and informed you he or she "can't get my e-mail". Come to think of it, the salesman might have actually said "give me a high five".

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe experience I had in the past was with shared hosting. Now I am willing to operate a download website at which the files will be hosted on my server. I am not willing to invest a lot of money in the website resources in the first few months since I don't expect to receive a lot of traffic at the very beginning. Therefore, I decided to go for something in between shared hosting and dedicated hosting.
I decided to choose [url]
Intel Dual Xeon Harpertown
512MB Guaranteed SLM RAM
60GB RAID-10 Disk Space
800GB Bandwidth
4 Dedicated IPs
cPanel / WHM
Virtuozzo 4 with Power Panel
Fantastico, RVSkin, WHMCS Available
1- What do you think about WiredTree?
2- Can I control anything related to htaccess (like modrewrite) in VPS?
3- Do I truely need Fantastico, RVSkin, WHMCS cpanels or is cPanel just enough?
I just wanted to forewarn ANY considering signing up with Servage, LOOK ELSEWHERE! They may be cheap, and they may be offshore (the reason I had chosen them), but they are probably the *worst* web host in business today.
I have been a customer with them for 2 years and here is an itemized list of issues with Servage to date (this doesn't include the issues Servage actually resolved):
- 1 month after signup, Servage experienced a DDoS; all their customers lost all their e-mails for a 72 hour period
- 8 TIMES in the past year, I've had to contact their support because my websites PING requests would consistently time out and the pages not load leading me to actually setup an account with SiteUptime (BTW, they NEVER made anything faster, they always would blame me, even on a static HTML site with no more than 2 simultaneous users)
- Servage advertises 99.98% uptime, my results from SiteUptime for the past 6 months has revealed to me that my actual uptime is about 93.1%, this is TERRIBLE, the worst in the industry in my opinion
- a month ago, every site on my Servage account had redirects to porn or spyware: my passwords are always a mix of foreign characters, uppercase, lowercase, numbers and no shorter than 8 characters. Servage tells me to delete all the files myself and change my passwords. They refuse to accept the responsibility that a hacker got into their master control panel
- They are HOLDING MY DOMAIN HOSTAGE! I made the mistake of signing up my main .com (all the others are with GoDaddy) with them since 1 domain was free with hosting for the life of my account. There is NO WAY they allow you to transfer this domain! They only let you DELETE it (then you have to wait for it to expire, backorder, etc. and chance losing your domain)
There are so many more issues that I could go over, but I think I've made my point.
If you're thinking Servage, I'd recommend you stay away!
There ARE other offshore hosts...
I just had a few questions. I recently purchased a VPS thta had WHM and cPanel (obviously). Its running off of CentOS.
now, I have a site created, but I dont know how to configure my site so that when someone clicks on the plan, they get directed to the particular spot to sign up (personal info...)Basically, I want to be able to allow an automated sign up without having to moderate it. However, I want to make someplans moderated only.
I was wondering if someone could help me with that.
Second, once someone DOES sign up, they would need to log in. I need to know how to configure the database (im guessing) so that they can sign in.
I just have a website with a dedicated IP address and shared SSL generated in CPanel.
I ask then my host to finish install, which they did.
Now, when I get into the certificated pages (HTTPS), I can see the https:// in the address box of the browser, however the lock sign does not show up.
How can I fix this? I would like to show this lock sign to show the site is secured, since not everybody knows what is a https connection.
I found a very good deal at https://order.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/...f=Order-Tariff
they offer unmetered 100 Mbit connection for 50 pounds a month. I'm living in Canada would I be allowed to sign up for that plan?
I'd like to get some feedback on what makes people sign up with a provider. On the flip side, what turns you away from a provider? Their site, feedback etc?
Personally, I like to see a provider that has reliability, stability and excellent customer care.
I decided to give HiVelocity a chance, and I myself has used several provider such as SoftLayer, The Planet, LayeredTech, and others. Let me begin with the sign up.
The initial sign up was very quick and easy. I got on live chat and Kevin gave me an amazing deal exactly what I was looking for spec and price wise. I paid and verification was done by Kevin within five minutes. I told him not to install an OS and just give me a KVM, so I can do it myself. He promised me that it would be setup that night, but I was assigned IPs listed in various spam databases, so I requested them to be changed.
Kevin was very helpful and tried, but the person who assigns the IPs was gone for the day, and it was friday, and it could have not been done until monday. I told Kevin to hold the deployment until Monday, which he did. I had an issue over the weekend, and everything got confusing, so Kevin who was off on weekend actually called me to clear things up, and comes Monday Kevin got the server up by 3:00PM EST. It was working well, but then I wanted remote reboot which became a nightmare. It took them a week to put me in the right rack to give me remote reboot. I started to ask them on Monday and it was done on Sunday or something. This was pretty annoying I had to get the IP's changed and what not, but Kevin responded to all my calls, live chat, and emails. I was given a good reimbursement by Kevin and Steve which made it worth while, but since then it has been great! If you are looking for a server with HiVelocity or just a good deal you might want to talk to Kevin, you can find him on live chat
Sales - 10/10
Support - 8/10
Billing - (I wish they had some sort of thing for weekend)
Most of our fraudulent transactions come via sign-ups with free email accounts such as yahoo, gmail and hotmail. Is anyone aware of a system which will prevent customers using these email addresses (or other free ones) for hosting plan sign-ups?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn 3rd of Jan 2007, a person by the name <name removed>has made a fraudulent purchase for a hosting site I developed and designed.
The whole site can be viewed at [url]
I developed and designed the site. I'm writing everyone a message here to warn everyone NOT to sign up their hosting packages when they see the above stolen site. The site is sold only exclusively so only the fraudulent buyer owns a copy of it. And I will not sell this site to anyone again. I can't tolerate cheat and will seek legal advice to file a case against Paypal and this fraudulent buyer.
This briefly what happened..
A payment is made by this fraudulent buyer on 3rd of Jan 2007. I checked the payment mode made is instant and not by credit card. He proceed to contact me at MSN after the payment is made. We chat on MSN and I prepared the files for him to review online and zipped up a copy for him to download from my server. Everything goes on smoothly until I received an email notification from Paypal stating the fund is unauthorized and my account is freezed.
This is the very first time I encountered this despite I've been providing online services and received payments by Paypal for years. I was fluttered and tried to contact the fraudulent buyer and I assumed it could be a misunderstanding. The buyer did not respond to my MSN message.
Within mins after I MSN him for clarification, I received an email from the said Paypal account owner stating he doesn't authorized the transaction and demand a full refund else he will commence legal actions. It is only to my awareness that this could be a fraudulent case. I MSN the fraud buyer and told him I have logged his IP which I really did. He quickly responded stating he doesn't know what happened.
While MSN with the fraud buyer, I simultaneously replied the email to the said PP account owner for verification and I requested the PP owner to sign in to MSN for verification. The PP account owner was suddenly not responsive and I carry on with the MSN conversation with the fraudulent buyer alone. The conversation turns ugly which he insisted this is an issue with PP and because I use PP, I am responsible for this to happen.
He last sentence in the conversation ends with " learn a few lessions your ****ing american, lovely 9/11, I partyed that day oh what fun" and that said PP account owner signed in shortly after. And instead of having the conversation with the fraudulent buyer and I together, he opened a new window and at that moment, the buyer disappeard offline. Yes, I do SUSPECT both identities belong to 1 person but I will not revealed much details on this part at this moment of time because I do not want the fraudulent buyer to get prepared to cover his ***.
I am very disgusted and disappointed by the way Paypal has handled this.
After receiving Paypal notification of unauthorized fund, the email request me to sign in to the resolution center to resolve it. HOWEVER, when I clicked the resolved button, there isn't any appropriate option for me to state my case as my item is not shipped, it is being downloaded. And when I click on "open a dispute", the options are meant solely for BUYERS only. Puzzled for a while and not knowing what to do, I use the option for OTHER and typed in a few lines telling me that I have logged all correspondences and the IP address which I will forward to them immediately when they requested it.
And before I get relieved from the dismay and I spent the entire day worrying and hoping for their call or email, Paypal closed the case within 36hours the dispute is opened! I was informed by a few short sentence stating the unauthorized access is valid and the case is closed. I, the seller, who have lost both items and money are not being asked for verification are shocked of how can this be justified? And I'm also liable for the transaction fee incurred!! This is ridiculous!
I have tried to contact Paypal after the case is closed. I tried to call PP but all I received is auto helpline which I couldn't find the appropriate group and I tried to go to the Help center and couldn't find the appropriate option to send my concern. The whole help center is designed to help Buyers to complain against Sellers and for PP to increase their users base. But I still send it under the option of Seller Protection Policy. I have also tried to email Paypal numerous times asking for verification on what are the steps they have taken to justify the case is closed? How do they proof that the access is unauthorized and how do they proof that the two identities are of two individuals and not in cahoots?
I was utterly angry with this and I can truly understand why that fraudulent buyer is laughing at me choosing Paypal as the payment gateway. The fraudulent buyer is obviously taking advantage of Paypal's inability, reluctance and lack of attention to protect their sellers from fraudulent acts.
The most hilarious part is, yesterday, I received a bounced mail from the email address I sent to Paypal. And today, I received an email from Paypal today telling me they have noted the transaction detail and THAT is a reply of mine which I sent within 5 mins on the very FIRST day I received the unauthorized fund notice. That means they closed the case even without even knowing what happened. WTF!!
And please all, do not allow this fraudulent buyer to get away easily. I DID NOT sell any copy of this site to anyone and only to that fraudulent buyer who cheated it. So, there shouldn't be anyone owning it except that fraudulent buyer. Do not let any innocents to fall into his trap again! He is setting up a hosting business and I am sure he will read this post here.
I've seek legal advice and I'm filing a suit against Paypal and the fraudulent buyer with all the proofs I have collected and documented. It is very obvious and clear that Paypal has encouraged fraudulent attempts by their lack of commitment and dedication to their users. Being rich and influential doesn't not give them the rights to led us by the nose.
I'm giving a chronological view of the whole incident and I'll follow up with more details. I will only do so after the case is filed and the hearing is done. And the identity of the Paypal account owner will be revealed after the filing is made.
If you are that fraudulent buyer reading this, I've given you chances to admit it and paid for it but you disregard it. I will honour my word and make sure everyone gets what they deserved. This is my hardwork which I spent time and effort doing it and you take it away within mins without guilt, I've told you it is going to cost you 100 times more when you cheat. Be very prepared for it.
is it possible that I can sign in to different website by using my dedicated server via ssh?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI paid for a server with GeekRack.net 8 days ago, and have seen no sign of the server being setup.
Now I know they are just a Burst.net reseller, they don't own or order the hardware or even have physical access to the servers, they simply get 25% off Burst.net and just resell their servers. That said you'd expect at least some sort of notification on when the server would be ready by, especially by now, right?
Currently we host a site constructor tool with a dedicated panel and we would like to add email hosting using PPA services.
We have already installed the system and customized the PPA panel which will be accessed by our panel.
We would like to know if it is possible to use Single Sign-On (SSO) access on some manner (with PPA API or other module), so our customers don't need to enter with user and password again to administrate their e-mail accounts.

I've got a problem with an SQL query that is behaving badly. Its probably really obvious, but I can't see the problem!
I have a table with 3 fields:
Code:
money bigint(20)
income int(12)
userID mediumint(7)
I have a row that has a negative money and a value of 0 for income. When I update the money value to add "0" to it, nothing happens (as expected). When I update the money field to add the income field (which is equal to 0) to it, MySQL flips the sign to make the money field positive.
The following queries show the problem:
Code:
mysql> SELECT money, income from users where userID=327961;
+----------------------+--------+
| money | income |
+----------------------+--------+
| -9223372036854775807 | 0 |
+----------------------+--------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
mysql> UPDATE `users` SET money = money + 0 WHERE userID =327961;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
Rows matched: 1 Changed: 0 Warnings: 0
mysql> SELECT money, income from users where userID=327961;
+----------------------+--------+
| money | income |
+----------------------+--------+
| -9223372036854775807 | 0 |
+----------------------+--------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
mysql> UPDATE `users` SET money = money + income WHERE userID =327961;
Query OK, 1 row affected, 1 warning (0.00 sec)
Rows matched: 1 Changed: 1 Warnings: 1
mysql> SELECT money, income from users where userID=327961;
+---------------------+--------+
| money | income |
+---------------------+--------+
| 9223372036854775807 | 0 |
+---------------------+--------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
mysql>
Notice that there is no negative sign after the third select!!
So, we are saying that executing an update where 0 is specified in the query results in the correct action but if you take the 0 from another field it takes the negative sign away...
This for various reasons is a rather urgent problem. This problem has only appeared after upgrading from MySQL 4.0 to MySQl 5.1. This problem does not occur in MySQL 4.1.
I have been at liquidweb for a about a month and I HAVE to say. These guys are the best.
I have no affiliation with them and I feel obligated to post a review because I was jumping from one provider to another, trying to find a good VPS solution, until I found liquidweb.
Oh my god, I have posted more than 30 different tickets at the helpdesk and NONE took more than 10 minutes to be answered. Also, none took more than 25 minutes to be RESOLVED except one, which took about 8 hours to be resolved:
For this ticket, I request help with a third party application (clipshare). The technician said: Sure I can help! Poor guy. We exchanged more than 60 (sixty) emails in 8 hours. He worked together with me for 8 straight ours until the problem was completely solved. I actually felt sorry for the guy. I actually thought: "what if this guy have to go? does he have a family?".
I have never seen something like that. The only way that liquidweb.com can be better for me is if I don't have to pay for my VPS. Actually, if they double the price of their VPS, I will gladly pay.
I found that the do not provide good first. I ordered a new VPS1 plan with their promotional offer on WHT. Ordered was setup on time after getting verification call from them. I selected fantastico in order form and now I found there is no fantastico installed. I asked few other query like bind is failing since server setup and there is no reply. My tickets are pending since last 4 hours. There is only Sales people are on web based support. One of them connected me to the technical support through phone but it's been another 30minutes and there is no reply.
I highly suggest not to go for LiquidWeb for VPS. I am checking if they provide moneyback as I need to use this option ultimately.
Trying to ping the given test address, also the main liquidweb.com page is opening veeeery slowly.
I am from Europe so I guess that might be an issue, anyone else noticing problems or is it just me and my connections?
I currently have a shared hosting plan at Liquidweb, and am considering upgrading to a VPS. After reading countless threads, I narrowed my potential hosts between Liquidweb, and Knownhost. Liquidweb won out mainly due to my extremely happy experience with them, though I do have a couple of questions.
I have been using shared hosting exclusively for years and it has served me well. I am now running a site that is gaining popularity and find that shared hosting is insufficient for my needs. Problem is, I know nothing about having to manage a VPS. I have read horror stories about having ones box hacked or exploited for some sort of zombie spam machine.
That being said, having a “Fully Managed” VPS sounds great. I read through the tutorials, mainly the “HOW TO: Secure and Optimize your VPS” and feel even more overwhelmed due the vast amount of tweaking that needs to be done in order secure a VPS.
While looking over the specs of VPS #1 on the Liquidweb site, they mention that their VPS’s feature “ServerSecure”. My question is:
Is “ServerSecure” secure to the point where I don’t need to manually add the myriad of tweaks listed in the above mentioned tutorial?
This is all new to me. I am interested in learning how to take care of a server, but I don’t want to be exploited in the mean time.
Also, my site is running two installs of Wordpress with a moderate amount of plugins. I run one for production, and one for testing puposes. I also run Mint. All have MySQL databases. While I do not currently have wpcache installed, I do plan to install it after moving to a VPS.
I have tentatively decided on VPS #1. My only worry is the amount of RAM included in the package. I found the “LiquidWeb: 10 Year Anniversary Special” thread in the “VPS Hosting Offers” forum and noticed that the RAM is upgraded from 256MB to 384MB, but I am worried that it may not be enough. I would like to have the specs of a VPS #1 server, but have the RAM (512MB to 768MB) of a VPS #2 server. The thing is, the VPS #1 configuration page does not allow me to upgrade the RAM beyond 384MB.
Will Liquidweb allow me to upgrade just the RAM of a particular server?
I realize that I could contact Liquidweb sales reps and ask, but I thought I would bundle this with my other question here first in the hopes that someone might know.
I just got a second server with them and all was fine until I logged into WHM today and got some message about missing A-Hostnames?
This was never there before. All seemed fine for about 2 weeks.. Things still look OK I think..
I ask for support but the support is really confusing and they dont explain things. My first server runs like a champ but it took them a month to sort out hostname issues with my first server.. They configured wrong....
Now here we go again...
to ensure things are properly configured..
Also, Im running a script on the first server that works fine...
On the new server it just doesnt work.. The script company is saying curl and ssl aren't enabled on the new server? I'm not sure what this means..
i am a current customer of LW but i am thinking about switching to 1&1
any reviews?
