I was in the market for a new dedicated server after a couple of years with my previous provider. The previous provider did nothing wrong but they were no longer competitive when it came to CPU and memory.
I moved first to geekrack. And I left them after a week and a half as they never were able to get my rDNS records setup.
I found Universal Hosts on this forum and gave them a shot. I had asked for an operating system that they didn't offer normally (Debian 64 bit) and they said that they could do it. However, when my server was setup it was 32 bit Debian instead. They apologized and had Debian 64 bit setup less than 24 hours later.
When I asked them to get rDNS records setup it took a few hours but they were setup correctly and they worked.
Universal Hosts is also a BurstNet reseller but compared to my other attempt at using a BurstNet reseller they are fantastic. While the initial config was incorrect they worked quickly to fix it and were very professional about it.
So after two weeks - so far so good. Keep up the good work UniHosts!
I am running Apache2.2, PHP5.I have been running with virtual hosts on a Windows 7 environment fine for a couple of years successfully, but have just had to move to a Windows 8 environment. It looks like Apache and PHP have installed and are working fine, but my Virtual hosts are now not being recognised. From what I can tell, it is the Windows 8 hosts file that is having a problem, as it looks as though it is now just setup to Block websites.
If I make the host file just have the one line127.0.0.1 localhost entry, then the very first Virtual Host from my apache config file will come up, but the rest are not found. If I put the usual 127.0.0.1 mywebsite.name aliasname is appears as though my website works momentarily and then is blocked..
We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation.
Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance.
Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz
to replace two above.
I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together.
What is your opinion?
3i want to buy new erver and i have choice of the fallowing
AMD X4 Quad Core 9500
RAM : 4096 MB
Disk Drives: 2 X 250 GB SATA
and
Intel Quad Core Q9300 4x2.5 GHz
RAM : 2048 MB
Disk Drives: 2 X 250 GB SATA
both in the same price . so i need some advice for who are the best performance and the ideal for webhosting service.
Recently I stumbled along a host on here with a good rep and that uses direct admin.
Because they were very nice on the live support I signed up to see what direct admin was like.
Its very diferent from cpanel. Some parts seem to be harder to use like the phpmyadmin requires the username and password to the database you created not the control panel username and password like cpanel. Although I guess that could be a good security feature just in case some one gets into the control panel they can not get into the phpmyadmin, then again if they are smart and were able to get into the control panel they could get into ftp and look what the username and password is on the config file for the script you are using.
The bandwidth meter seems to be better in direct admin although I think its acting up for me as its putting yesterdays bandwidth on todays. I was told by the host that it updates every 2 hours and at first it did but now its gone to every day. Oh and unlike cpanel this bandwidth meter includes bandwith used by the control panel.
Niether one from what I can tell counts sftp though at least for the hosts I have right now.
we are planning to have 1 more dedicated server and also planning to collocate.
Core 2 Quad 6700 [ OR ] Core 2 Quad Q9450 | Which is better
I cant decide between
Dual Processor Single Core
Dual Processor Single Core Xeon - 3.00GHz (Irwindale)
Or
Single Processor - Quad Core?
Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 3220 - 2.40GHz (Kentsfield)
My site needs "raw" processing power due to the applications it runs. ram (over 2 gb) and hdd are not that important to me.
could someone point me in the right direction.
Which is a better option? Both priced same, I know with the Xeon 5310 the possibility of upgrading to dual cpu's.
Quote:
Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 3220 - 2.40GHz (Kentsfield) - 2 x 4MB cache
Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 5310 - 1.60GHz (Clovertown) - 1 x 8MB cache
Which would give higher performance in a shared web hosting environment?
I am going to buy a new server and I am unsure of which route to take.
Basically the cost is identical for a Dell server with:
1 AMD Operton Dual Core 2.4Ghz
OR
2 AMD Operton Dual Core 2.0Ghz
What is the felling? Does the 4 cores out weight the extra 400 mhz per processor, but only having 2 cores?
The server will be running:
Windows 2003 Standard x32
Plesk 8.2
IIS 6.0 [ Application Pools Setup ]
MySQL
Microsft SQL Express 2005 [ONLY CAN USE 1 CPU/CORE]
MailEnable
Can my applications even handle/utilize four cores?
from the title, which one is better for a server?

Anyone ever heard of these guys, saw someone make a recommendation for them and it looks like they are resellers for a few places including softlayer. Seems odd for a recommendation when no one has ever heard of them, so just seeing if anyone has.

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to post a quick note for those looking to get a server from pc-core.net.
In pre sales talks they told me that they could have a server available to me within 48 hours of receiving payment.
On their website at [url] it says "Your server will be provisioned, secured, and delivered within 72 hours of purchase."
This was important to me as I at that time only had 1 week left on my contract with my current provider.
2 days after I paid for the server, and 3 days before deadline, I contacted the support and asked for the server as I needed to migrate.
They said they'd set it up "ASAP" and that they would do the migration for me as I wouldn't be available the following days.
Today is deadline and my current provider is billing me for another month. And I still, 5 days after payment, have no server available from pc-core.net.
I don't know if this was just a glitch in their services or if it's the way they normally conduct their business.
I asked about the server yesterday and they have had all of friday to produce a response. It has now been 18 hours and not a word.
I have asked for my money back as they offer a Money Back Guarantee on their website.
I don't know if that is a promise they take as lightly as the promise to deliver but will keep you posted.
pc-core.net vs hivelocity.net
What is the best pc-core.net

it kinda weird that AMD sell Triple core but does anyone use it? does it work better or worse than dual core?
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow a webhosting compay name PC-core.net troubled me.
If you have forgotten the case; here is brief overview what happened,
I tired ordering new dedicated box (was an offer) but on payment page they had problem. So few days later i told there was problem with payment page and couldn't pay. So they said now its fixed pay now then will setup a DEDICATED boy with PHP/Apache/MySQL configured with required libraries as i had told them. So I even ordered Cpanel/WHM along. Thought was a good deal.
I got an email saying will be setup in FEW HOURS.
Waiting more than 5-6 hours; when enquired about it didn't get any reply. So in haste FILED CHARGEBACK in paypal. As soon as i filed they started responding saying the server was on its way... HAD they told that before clearly I wouldn't have to take such step.
So, I closed the dispute.
When I got my box, It was missing many stuff.
FIRST EXTRA backup HDD that i ordered.
SECOND php was not configured to work along with MySQL and other libs were missing.
When asked about the issue; for HDD was told will be added in few hours later.
So If i had not checked properly, they would have simply charged for that and would have never installed it.
Now when asked about second case; they told its not their work to install all PHP/MySQL stuff...
Why did they promise in the first place about the thing they were never going to deliver?
Ok, I tried my hands with WHM/Cpanel to get MySQL and Php working but I failed.
So i thouhgt of cancelling the whole server itself. After getting rude replies regarding any support.
So I had made payment on 31st may 2008 for server. I cancelled server on 10th June 2008 (both from their client area and sending email to their support also).
I lost $120 bucks. Did get a lesson there are companies who promises BUT DONT DELIVER.
Now today suddenly I get an email from their support THAT I AM OBLIGED to pay another MONTH BILL too....
HERE IS EXACT EMAIL
=========================================

Now why am I still obliged to pay. WHEN I HAD paid on 31st may 2008 for SERVER till June 30th, 2008?
Are these guys trying to irritate me first by GIVING NO REFUND to me and sending such email EVEN AFTER I HAVE CANCELLED WITH THEM?
I have had the hardest time contacting pc-core.net and I just wanted to share my experiences with everyone. I ordered a dual-xeon 2.8ghz from pc-core.net last month. The first 20 days of service were fantastic, all of my support issues were handled promptly and with okay results. Afterwords things quickly went downhill. My server disconnected me from SSH about every 1 - 2 minutes. Every attempt I made to contact this company failed; numerous support tickets, 3 phone calls, 10 e-mails (All of which are down by the way. I get mail not sent errors for every one.). After a few days of dealing with this frustration I decided to attempt another support ticket (Don't try their live support system as they apparently never use it.). After many login attempts and a few recover password attempts I found that my account was either suspended or deleted. Just great, because I did not realize I was on a paypal subscription and had just been billed for this server. I immediately attempted every possible means to contact this company for a refund, including the phone number listed on their paypal account (This number doesn't even have an answering machine. I assumed it was because they were tired of hearing all of the complaints their dedicated customers were leaving.). Yesterday I received an e-mail stating my server would now be managed by burst.net. I received no warnings or prior e-mails, it was just spontaneous. After logging in to my burst.net account, another attempt for a refund, I found that my invoice had not been paid. I contacted burst.net's customer service and they confirmed my invoice for this month had not been paid. Awesome! After several days of ripping my hair out and being forced to open a Paypal dispute, which I have found can only be used for tangible products, I am still out $79.95.

I had a fantastic few months with Pc-core.net until my most recent invoice from them, the invoice is supposed to be issued around 16 days before the payment but in the end was issued around 2 days before the payment was due, making it difficult for payment. 36 after the payment is due I get an e-mail saying that my server has been terminated as of non-payment.
From their TOS:
There is a 72 hour grace period for payments. If we do not receive payment or any notice excusing you of payment within 72 hours of the invoice being due, we will suspend the account. There is a $10 reactivation fee for shared and reseller accounts overdue. For VPS and Dedicated Servers, there is a $50 reactivation fee. After 7 days overdue, the VPS will be destoyed.
I'm frankly shocked at this point, and contact them straight away.
Are replied to saying I have 4 hours left for payment otherwise server would be terminated indefinitely, (hard to get to the bank for payment at 2am in the morning my time).
We have the right to terminate service at anytime and we also have the right to change our TOS. We have done so recently since many abusers and late payers have come along. We do not want customers who are going to do that. It is bad foor our business and not worth the effort of suspending and then threatening to terminate.
Your invoice was created 14 days before it was due. You had enough time to pay it. I'm not sure what you are waiting for but I gave you 2 extra days.
Unless you can make this payment within the next 4 hours, the server will be terminated.
Regards,
Invoice was not created 14 days before it was due, they also had informed me in no way of any tos changes, although the TOS still states 72 hours for non-payment.
Several tickets the tech support rep sees the other ticket about the invoice not being generated until two days before due, claiming it was not linked to my account and had to search around for it.
He then said he would contact the datacenter about it and get the drive on hold, the drive gets placed on hold and I pay for the invoice being releaved that none of my data has gone missing.
A day later the tech replies saying the server is gone, that it has been used, that the drive which was placed on hold has been used even though I was assured that it would be OK and safe, even though my payment was in.

I'm quite upset that all my data for my sites have gone, I have backups for the scripts and some data but it is too hard to backup some of my sites, for example my image hosting site ImageDo.com (now down due to this) which gets 600-800 images uploaded each day and many changes made.
All my data has been lost, my image hosting site which meant a great deal to me is gone along with 14,000 of peoples images stored on it, not due to technical faults but due to Pc-core.net.
