Email Piping And Spam Filtering

Mar 7, 2008

I have SpamAssassin on my server, and I use email piping to forward incoming emails to a PHP script. I'd like to know if emails go through SpamAssassin before being piped, or if they don't go through SpamAssasin. Where exactly is SpamAssassin requested to scan emails?

Email Piping Returns A Bounced Email

May 19, 2007

I setup mail piping with Exim so that e-mails sent to a specific account be forwarded to my PHP script. It's not working properly, because when I send a mail to this account, it's bounced by the mailer daemon:

Code:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

pipe to |/home/user/public_html/support/parse.php
generated by support@mydomain.com
local delivery failed
In my /etc/valiases/domain.com file I have:

Code:
support@mydomain.com: "|/home/user/public_html/support/parse.php"
*: :blackhole:

What can be causing the error?

EMail Piping

Jun 2, 2008

I can't seem to have any luck with these damned companies I buy renewed support contracts through. So here's my new issue, finally ModernBill and Kayako are setup and the box is running however i'm trying to get e-mail piping setup for E-Support. Ive created an email account in plesk both as a mail box and without a mailbox to see if that made a difference I added the line with quotations to the file it says to add which mind you isn't there in the first place it's a new file.

I've created the email queue pipe in kayako and no go sending an email to that address doesn't bounce back nor does it open a ticket.

E-mail piping in Plesk Control Panel

This procedure explains how to set up e-mail piping in the Plesk Control Panel.

1. Via SSH, you need to manually edit the file:

a. /var/qmail/mailnames/company.com/.qmail-support

b. Where support is the e-mail alias name (support@yourdomain.com).

2. The .qmail-support is the name of the file we are editing, and in it we will place the pipe
command.

3. Inside this file, the following command needs to be entered:

a. “|/home/httpd/vhosts/company.com/httpdocs/full/path/to/cli/index.php”

4. This command will pipe | incoming e-mails to the specified location.

5. Save the file.

After some messing around I found out the location of the .qmail was wrong in the manual so I've now added it however I get this error,

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at liquidwind.plexnetworks.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<general@plexnetworks.com>:
/bin/sh: /var/www/vhosts/plexnetworks.com/subdomains/helpdesk/httpdocs/cli/index.php: Permission denied

I've changed the permission to 777 and same result.

Piping Email OR Similar

Jan 4, 2009

I try to work out a system where I can get the context of an incoming E-mail and input it to another E-mail which I then forward to a different address. Must be able to preconfigure both the incoming and outgoing E-mail addresses so to be working as an automated kind of system. Any ideas, email manager lists, softwares, scripts, even some ticketing system would be considered. Please, do post your experience/knowledge. I just need to makeb a simple simple system to do the job described above.

I've been trying to get this to work for almost 2 weeks now. Is there a tutorial around for Plesk 12, Postfix and WHMCS that works? WHMCS does not support Plesk, only Direct Admin and cPanel.I'm getting this in maillog:

Spam Filtering

Jan 5, 2009

I used to have a reseller account and have shifted everything to a dedicated server. I now find that a couple of clients are getting lots of spam when they didn't before.

It seems that the servers used by the reseller account had some level of basic spam filtering installed; my provider suggested I look for a filtering program to install on my server.

There are, of course, dozens of them, so I wondered if anyone has any experience - enough, perhaps, to make a recommendation.

GoDaddy Spam Filtering

Does anybody know if GD filters email BEFORE it reaches my domain? It surely seems so. I recently moved to GD. I turned off spam filtering and don't receive any spam on accounts that used to receive a lot of spam. The only possible explanation is that they kill it before it reaches my domain.

Managed Spam Filtering

Apr 10, 2008

if anyone may know of a server spam filtering product which has these features....

1. stops identified spam at the server and keeps it for a period of time eg 7 days before dumping it

2. forwards clean mail to end user

3. end user gets daily report via email of mail tagged and kept

4. clickable link in daily email report to 'release' mail and send it

5. auto whitelists released mail (ie adds it to bayesian database / whitelist addresses)

6. configurable to work with either individual end user, or with eg domain sysadmin (who can view / help see mail for all domain users)

7. can be either a hosted service, or server software product; although linux opensource server product would be good.....

8. not hugely expensive :-)

I have been using ASSP for quite some time; and like it's accuracy. So I suppose what ideally I'm looking for is ASSP with Bells and Whistles. On Cpanel I'm using grscripts ASSP deluxe, and this already has some great bells, but lacks a couple of the whistles I'd like (as above).

If anyone has ideas - or can point me to other threads (I did a search here already, but couldn't refine my search enough to find anything relevant)

Recommendation For An MS Exchange Admin Who Knows How To Set Up Spam Filtering

Aug 4, 2008

We have a customer who has their own in-house Exchange server. The problem (don't ge me started!) is that they get a LOT of spam.

We've been looking for some kind of hosted barracuda service, but can't seem to find anything reasonably priced.

So... I'm thinking that maybe for a one-time setup fee we can help them find an Exchange admin who can set them up with Spam Assassin or some other *simple* but effective spam filtering system on their server.

Hosted Third-party Spam Filtering For CPanel

Oct 3, 2007

Can anyone recommend a hosted third-party spam filtering service for cPanel servers?

Most of the servers are reseller based, and I don't see myself or my team having to enter each individual email address into the service.

With that said, is there any service where you can just point the MX records to it, it would scan the email, and then deliver it?

DirectAdmin / Plesk Hosting - Enterprise Grade Spam Filtering A Plus

Aug 16, 2008

We have a variety of clients that we just put on various providers/platforms that we use for various reason. I've given up on HSphere though. I can see the versatility in this but I just don't have the time to invest learning the interface. What is a +++ though is HSphere platforms bundle in urchin--so for certain sites, we can turn urchin up on the fly.

Is there any hosts you guys recommend that have Enterprise grade email filtering. Part of the problem we have seen is just the level of spam filtering. Even with Pair, stuff was just coming through. For those with email in house -- great , as we just run the MX through Postini 1st and lock down SMTP on the FW side.

For some of our clients *with some minor hiccups* at times, we moved them to Google Apps. The spam filtering is just a +++ as much as I would like to get away from Google on the email. And yes, I am aware they own Postini now...

Back on to Webhosting.

I think we have found a couple of new guys to try
For nix based hosting, I'm planning to move some sites to Medialayer. Support or just various emails between them is very good !

For windows, we are debating. I have to reach out to Karl over at Steadfast and or Wiretree to inquire...but I'm leaning on a Plesk Windows Shared or VPS.

Usability is key on the CP and Cpanel/Plesk is just so much easier than Hsphere.

For the *email aspects* that's tied into any hosting provider, Mosso was interesting - BUT just looking at status.mosso.com was frighting.

Plesk Automation :: Use Mail Node With Spam Filtering Appliance

May 20, 2014

We want to configure our PPA mail node to send all outbound mail through our spam filtering appliance but don't know where to start.

Reading standard Postfix docs give basic instructions on how to direct a handful of domains through a mail relay but we want to direct every outbound email from all domains through our spam filter.

We also want to ensure that any regular updates to the mail node won't break or undo this config.

I have DirectAdmin installed which lacks advanced email filtering features and wanted to know how can i setup Exim or what third party software to add to filter all incoming emails based on their subject?

I have Squirrelmail installed and it has these filters but the problem is that it applys its filters only on login and if i am checking email thru POP3 filters dont get applied.

Email Filtering - Cpanel

Apr 25, 2008

My provider is using mailfoundry for spam filtering.. but I used IMAP (stored on server) for email.. my problem is that I'm also using a catch-all address and I make up random email names for sites I go to, to check for spam on the incoming side..

I setup filters in Cpanel to remove the selected spam or emails I don't wish to recieve.. but they don't seem to remove themselves.. it could just be a setup problem or it could be the mailfoundry.. not sure..

Here's the settings I have in cpanel (I just altered the name) is this the right setting.. or does it go elsewhere?

Email Sent Being Marked As Spam

May 22, 2009

One of my clients is trying to send an email to someone who has barracuda spam filter on their systems. the spam filter is rejecting the email and marking the IP address as poor.

The IP address that it is rejecting is not the address of the SMTP server but the PC address (Outlook client). is this normal to check the client pc IP address and not the SMTP server?

The response from the spam filter includes a link to check the IP address which reports the IP address status as "poor".

The problem is this IP address is a dynamic IP assigned by the clients ISP. I tried a couple of IP addresses within the same subnet and they all seem to be marked as poor.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this issue?? I have included the (masked) response from the spam filter below:

Code:

SPF (Email Marked As Spam)

Apr 16, 2008

I have a dedicated server in which i host 4 web sites using plesk one of them is mysite.com. That one is also set for ns1.mysite.com ns2.mysite.com.

(all domain names below are just example names)

Dns records for my apple.com orange.com and banana.com uses ns1.mysite.com and ns2.mysite.com my name server is also in the same machine.

In orange.com dns settings are as follows.

Code:
80.111.11.11 / 24PTRorange.com
orange.com.NSns1.mysite.com.
orange.com.NSns2.mysite.com.
orange.com.A80.111.11.11
orange.com.MX (10)mail.mysite.com.
orange.com.TXTv=spf1 a mx include:gmail.com,yahoo.com,hotmail.com ~all
ftp.orange.com.CNAMEorange.com.
mail.orange.com.A80.111.11.11
webmail.orange.com.A80.111.11.11
www.orange.com.CNAMEorange.com.
80.111.11.11 is dedicated ip for orange.com.

The PROBLEM:

The thing is whenever the server sends email it is flagged spam by yahoo, hotmail etc. I have created SPF for my orange.com but it is still marked as spam...

I have checked dns report for both mysite.com and orange.com but they seem to be OK with no warnings either.

I want to create a spf record or make somthing so the emails does not marked as spam.

Email Spam From My Own Server

Dec 19, 2008

I received many email spam recently, with the sender address from my own server.
Eg.

my domain = www.shashinki.com
email spam that I received = shop@shashinki.com which is being sent to my own email address of shop@shashinki.com. Yes, the sender is my own email address account.

I checked using gmail and the sender is from my own server IP address and the sender's email address seems to be valid and is from my own email account.

I have changed the password of my email address, added SPF to my email system...etc. I have done all that I can think of, but I still get the same spam emails.

What can I do and what should I do? I got really tired of this and I am worried that my server is being used to send spams to others.

My server is with LayeredTech, unmanaged server, so I dont have a manager to help me.

Hope to get some insight and help from sifus here...
