I am currently with a company operating out of the Netherlands, however for what I am spending I do not feel I am receiving timely responses to support tickets (I'm talking days with no reply, at all). So, I am looking to switch. My current budget is around $300 USD/mo, however, I can spend more if the deal is right.
I need a host that is not easily scared off by American DMCA take-down notices. Please understand, nothing I do is illegal. In fact, to be blunt, I write software for online games and charge a fee to users who wish to access my software. I was using dedicated hosts within the United States to satisfy my customer base, however, one particular company, Nexon America (just one of the companies whose online games I develop software for) more or less got me dropped by every host I went to. I host absolutely no copyrighted files of any kind, images, textual, video, or binary.
I am currently running a set of websites which is about 20 domains and as many databases. These are php4, mysql 5 websites.
/* rant mode on*/
I was hosted on 1and1 shared hosting but had to upgrade to their dedicated hosting due to constraint of 15 dbs max on shared.
The first problem arose when they said all the data has been transferred to dedicated (I have email proof) but after two weeks suddenly the darn databases vanished from my dedicated account. I checked with the hosting and they said the DBs need to be moved manually. I was pissed as hell but thankfully they came up with that morning's backup of the databases and nothing was lost.
The second problem that came my way was that Shared hosting had MySQL5 but the dedicated hosting only had MySQL4. This was pretty ironic as I was supposed to be upgrading.
Being weekend and all, I was in one hell of a tight spot. With client's and partner's breathing down, I moved the databases to a idle-sitting shared 1and1 hosts and got the sites running. /* rant mode off*/
I am currently confused and scared as to how to choose my next hosting. I want a dedicated host because of the traffic on some of the more high profile domains. I would appreciate if someone suggested a very good host in £100 to £175 bracket, especially if you have been with him for a few years.
Can I run both Windows & Linux on a dedicated server? I currently have a website hosted on a shared hosting Linux web server (uses PHP, MySQL). I want to use RED5, which seems a bit tricky to set up.
Why Windows?
I would feel more comfortable installing RED5 on a windows server (I think it'd be easier for me, no experience with Linux command line etc.).
Why Linux?
I'd prefer to keep the existing PHP/MySQL website on Linux because I have Apache specific settings.
we have Plesk Version 11.0.9 and I have the following Problem:
(all adresses are examples)
The Server hostet the following Domains and thay all send Mails too:
a.de b.de
Now I need the following:
If the user "some.user@b.de" send a E-Mail to "user@mydomain.de" the recipient of the Mail have to be changed to "user@mx.mydomain.de". But if "some.user@a.de" do the same, the recipient should not be changed.
I just leased a Godaddy linux dedicated server with a Cisco PIX 501 firewall. Control panel is Plesk 8. Preconfigured with Ferdora 7, mysql, php, etc.
I've tried to configure multiple domains but am having problems.
I currently have several websites each running on their own Godaddy shared hosting account. I'm am trying to migrate all of these websites onto the dedicated server.
My plan is as follows: Configure the firewall Configure the server (add IPs) Configure the domains from within Plesk (add client, domains, dns). But DO NOT change the name servers on the domain. I need to test the websites first. Copy the webpages, content from the shared hosting accounts to the server. Test the websites on the server. I am hoping that I can access the websites on the server using ip addresses, since I figure I won't be able to use the domain names without first changing the name server entries on the domains. Once testing is completed, change the name servers on the domains so they point to the server.
What I have done: Configured the firewall interface (outside = 72.169.55.184/24, inside = 10.0.0.254/24) Configured the firewall IP translation rules (outside = 72.169.55.183, inside = 10.0.0.1) Configured server (added 3 IPs - 10.0.0.1 [exclusive], 10.0.0.2 [exclusive], 10.0.0.3 [exclusive]). I figure I need a unique ip for each domain? Created a client called MyDomains. All domains are created under this client. Created domain mydomain1 (assigned ip 10.0.0.1 [exclusive]). Added services ftp, ssi, php, cgi, etc. DNS 'A' records all set to firewall ip 72.169.55.184 Created domain mydomain2 (assigned ip 10.0.0.2 [exclusive]). Added services ftp, ssi, php, cgi, etc. DNS 'A' records all set to firewall ip 72.169.55.184 Created domain mydomain3 (assigned ip 10.0.0.3 [exclusive]). Added services ftp, ssi, php, cgi, etc. DNS 'A' records all set to firewall ip 72.169.55.184
I might be close, or I might be so far off that my inexperience shows.
Is the above correct? Do I need a unique "inside" ip address (10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2, 10.0.0.3) for each domain/website? Do I need to add translation rules to the firewall for 10.0.0.2, 10.0.0.3?
How do I test each domain on the server without changing the name server entries on the domain? I have one firewall ip address 72.169.55.184 but 3 different domains. How can I test mydomain1.com, mydomain2.com, mydomain3.com?
If anyone can tell me if I have this correct, or what I have to do to get this correct I'd be immensly appreciative. Just as important is knowing how I can test each domain before I go live with it.
Have Plesk 12 in Centos...all working fine...but I have assigned dedicated IP for one domain, have request certificate (as admin) for this domain, purchase certificate in Comodo and installed...this certificate working fine and SSL Checker is good...problem is in domain how have assigned this certificate in menu SSL not appear...
I have only Default Certificate (certificate Plesk self signed) and Not Selected...but name for real certificate CA not appear...in Admin IP Address have all ok...IP for this domain and certificate (name of certificate installed) and website.... With this problem is normal? How configure SSL for email?
I have a client on a dedicated IP, today we needed to downgrade the web hosting plan. As the web hosting plan puts users on a default shared IP, this plan change also changed the dedicated IP to the shared one causing some propagation issues for a small period of time.
I have contacted WHMCS about this asking if they had a way of changing the clients plan but keeping the IP address intact as this could lead to some very undesirable outcomes. They explained that it is not their fault and to contact Parallels.
I know I can change the plan directly in Plesk however by initiating the plan change via WHMCS, everything is automated.
I have an account that is going from a shared hosting account to a dedicated with theplanet and I want to transfer it. Concerns I have is that the site is using an SSL. What things do I need to watch out for when transferring. Since I don't have root access I will have to do this transfer with the account function, correct?
This site has a database and SSL, so I thought it would hopefully be easier to use the cpanel account migration tool
I use shared web hosting service to get my website online. I'm wondering how many people use dedicated servers or virtual private servers instead and pay from $20 to several hundreds of dollars? Will I face any big problem with shared web hosting package which makes me choose dedicated servers?
What would you classify this as? Seems like it's the in-between for VPS and dedicated with completely reserved resources and much higher storage capacities than VPS can offer.
Personally, if it runs a hypervisor or container is a VPS but this sure does blur the lines a bit.
I am currently using a shared hosting but due to increasing traffic and server load my existing host is not able to provide reliable services and I am planning to upgrade my hosting service.
While I was searching for Dedicated Servers, I learnt about Virtual Dedicated Servers but I am not very sure about their reliability? Are Virtual Dedicated Servers useful? My website current serves over 2500-3000 visitors a day resulting in 30,000 pageviews and I am expecting the traffic to grow by atleast 2 folds in the next few months as I start some PPC campaigns and Email Marketing for my website. Can a Virtual Dedicated Server cater such needs assuming my website to be more of less dynamic website written in php?
I am trying to install Magento on my apache server. I am running into the dreaded mcrypt issue as Magento needs it to run. I have now been googling for the past few hours and have gotten nowhere.
Here are my details:
Linux Centos 5.5 PHP 5.3.3 x86_64 Plesk 12
I have tried installing all sorts of different repos and it just isn't working.
When I try to install using # yum install php-mcrypt I get the following:
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror Package php-mysql is obsoleted by php-mysqlnd, trying to install php-mysqlnd-5.5.13-3.el5.remi.x86_64 instead --> Processing Dependency: php53-gd for package: psa-php53-configurator --> Processing Dependency: php53-imap for package: psa-php53-configurator
I'm running a Joomla site with about 15,000 page views/day on JaguarPC at present. Its a mainly passive content - no message boards or applications. They disabled my site stating that CPU/Database use is too much. Should I move to a VPS or Dedicated server now ? Budget range $50-75/month.
I am tossing around the idea of moving from my dedicated server to a VPS server. This is due to my ever growing server needs.
Currently, I use a small percent of a $400 softlayer server, about 500gig disk space and 2tb bandwidth. Is this too big for a VPS? Is there anything special I need to take into consideration for the move?
I was also wondering if other VPS's on the same server would slow down mine or if I would just allocated a % witch would be reserved for me.
I have a master reseller account with a host and i ordered a dedicated IP address so i can install a SSL certificate, I have not done this before so just wanted some info.
Its been over 24 hours from when my host transfered my IP to my account and my website keeps showing some other website o my laptop and if i check it on 1 of my other computers it shows the WHM & cPanel success page...
i know i have to leave it to set the new DNS etc but should it be showing another website? and how long does it take to set the new IP fully as my email and website is all offline
I'm just wondering what the prices are for lower end dedicated servers and how many websites you can fit on them?
(lets say each website is a small 5 to 10 page website with 200 meg space usage and 1 to 2 gig transfer per month)
I'm currently using reseller but once my client base is built rather than buy 5 or 6 reseller plans, I thought it'd be logic to simple upgrade to a dedi.
I know VPS are used for name servers and whatnot, how do they compare with low-end dedicated servers?
I'm in the middle of deciding on the hosting I'll use for a site I plan to launch in a month or so. The site is a web app built on Drupal (mysql 5 / php5). It is somewhat resource intensive, as thousands of rss and csv files are updated almost constantly. My last site I hosted across two VPS's, one for the DB and one for everything else. My main concern is scalability - being able to handle whatever is needed.
So I'm looking for some advice on what to do, trying to get the most power, and best scaling options - while trying to keep costs down. I can get a fairly powerful dedicated, fully managed, from liquidweb for around 230/mth. At that price, I thought maybe it would be better to have two VPS's. My experience in this area is limited so instead of running my mouth perhaps I'll let someone else suggest something..
