Been using the Hivelocity dedicated server for a while now and at first was happy with it’s hosting performance, but after using Hivelocity for about 6 months I’m no longer as impressed unfortunately (especially unimpressed with Hivelocity support).
When the dedicated server worked it was fine, but I was finding it down every so often and there’s no remote reboot with an unmanaged Hivelocity server (at least Server4you had remote reboots with their servers) and their support staff on live chat (who have to order reboots manually!) are far from impressive at supporting their customers at times when they really need support!
If you have a dedicated server and you only need management and support team. how much will that cost. some body who can take care of all aspects including security and in time of trouble can answer support tickets.
I have several sites with Godaddy, but their lack of any real support leaves something to be desired. Does anybody know of a decent provider that has options for database support (mysql) and the like?
I need a dedicated server sometime in the future and I was wondering if I should use Virtuozzo or Hypervm and how much can I get a dual core or quad core with good support? Thank you for your time.
Which hosting service currently offer Server Name Indication (SNI) support which allows one to use his/her own SSL certificate to enable https support without a dedicated IP...?
Can you reccomend - based on your experience - some dedicated hosting provider with a solid freebsd experience ? By "solid" I mean they will be able to provide a decent freebsd installation (especially if a control panel is requested) on tested hardware, rather than setup their standard server, put on it a freebsd7 iso, do a very poor setup then discover something like the raid card does not work as expekted, scratch their head, embarass themselves proposing centos as an alternative, and similar ridiculous behaviour ...
[I am in the market for a middle range core duo with 4gigs ram. Budget around 180$, 210$ including DirectAdmin. 2000GB bw on a 100mbit port. NY, DC, VA datacenters highly favourite, but also a well-networked chicago one would do, I guess].
I am currently using a shared hosting but due to increasing traffic and server load my existing host is not able to provide reliable services and I am planning to upgrade my hosting service.
While I was searching for Dedicated Servers, I learnt about Virtual Dedicated Servers but I am not very sure about their reliability? Are Virtual Dedicated Servers useful? My website current serves over 2500-3000 visitors a day resulting in 30,000 pageviews and I am expecting the traffic to grow by atleast 2 folds in the next few months as I start some PPC campaigns and Email Marketing for my website. Can a Virtual Dedicated Server cater such needs assuming my website to be more of less dynamic website written in php?
I have an account that is going from a shared hosting account to a dedicated with theplanet and I want to transfer it. Concerns I have is that the site is using an SSL. What things do I need to watch out for when transferring. Since I don't have root access I will have to do this transfer with the account function, correct?
This site has a database and SSL, so I thought it would hopefully be easier to use the cpanel account migration tool
I use shared web hosting service to get my website online. I'm wondering how many people use dedicated servers or virtual private servers instead and pay from $20 to several hundreds of dollars? Will I face any big problem with shared web hosting package which makes me choose dedicated servers?
i want to get a dedicated server and set up small VPSes on it so i can sell them to people this is the dedicated server im looking at

I got control of some colocation resource in Taipei, Hong Kong and several cities in China (Beijing, Shanghai and probably Guangzhou & Shenzhen), and is now considering starting a business by deploying blade servers into my racks with Internet bandwidth as well as private bandwidth interconnected between the above IDC.
My target will be corporation, web developer / SI who want their / their clients' web site or IP application online with target users in those regions.
I prefer to deploy VM or VPS instead of dedicated servers as space/electricity in China is very expensive and higher density should be the way to go.
So I'd like to know more what the difference is between VM and VPS in terms of customer perception and actual features.
In areas of VM and VPS, which vendor do you recommend and why?
Is there any dedicated server providers, where you can change the whois, so you would be able to resell server, and if someone looked up or traceroute the ip it would look like you on the DC?
Just found out about these RPS Servers from my friend. They are dedicated servers without a Hard Drive directly inside of them. They are connected elsewhere for some reason however it makes them alot cheaper that way especially worth while for the need of Dedicated systems for low costs.
I wondered if anyone else had experiance using these systems and/or this host also?
And wanted to know if most thought these would be acceptable to run Shoutcast Hosting ? I know it depends on resources etc but I mean generally speaking with these specs. Im pretty convinced to get this rather than a VPS.
Anyone has a suggestion of a company that has respectable response time with a data center located within NYC with fast setup time?
I've a server with galaxyvision. they boast a 24/7 support, live chat doesn't work and they don't even answer the phone. Server's been down for 2 hours.
I'm going to get a dedicated server with option to install my own OS. Is it possible to use a simple XP Pro ? or I have to go with Server 2003 ? what is the difference ? I barely need 90% of the server 2003 features. The only thing that is required is the windows environment for my own software.
I have a specific request, I need a server (Quad Core, 4GB of RAM, 20GB SATA(2), 100Mbit connection, 1TB transfer, in USA). The special part of the request is, I need you to install Call of Duty: World At War the first day it comes out. Is there anyone who can do this?
I am running a flash application on my webhosting account with Bluehost.com this application can be installed on PC, MAC, and facebook
and it's straming audio files so my traffic is about 1100 GB monthly
today I was asked by Bluehost.com to stop the application as it's slowing their server specially when i had 300 people streaming 1 file at the same time.
so would i be better getting a vps or a dedicated server?
im going to buy a Dedicated Server but i got some Q and i hope you guys can help me out here...
i was thinking about all this "Unlimited BW" i saw some site say they give you but i find it strange they will give somthing they pay for for free...so i think they will limite my Up/Down speed or somthing so ill back off it... but now im thinking about a new company, "LeaseWeb"
alot of ppl told me that there very god and very fast...but there not cheap...so i wanted to know what you guys think on them ? is there anyone else that is good but cheaper ?
I bought a dedicated server from FDC a few days ago, and it has been becoming unresponsive a lot lately, ie WHM/CPanel and SSH not responding etc, and It's been rebooted about 4 times in the last 36 hours, with the last time NOT being requested by me.
Server Specs: AMD X2 3600 2Gb Ram 400Gb HDD Running Centos 5 uname -r 2.6.18-8.1.10.el5 and WHM 11.11.0 cPanel 11.12.0=C17327
vmstat 5 5 and ps-auxf are added as attachments. Server Version: Apache/2.0.61 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.61 OpenSSL/0.9.8b mod_bwlimited/1.4 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/5.2.4Server Built: Sep 23 2007 14:09:34And from Apache: Parent Server Generation: 0Server uptime: 1 hour 6 minutes 58 secondsTotal accesses: 11387 - Total Traffic: 80.3 GBCPU Usage: u1.16 s11.13 cu.09 cs0 - .308% CPU load2.83 requests/sec - 20.5 MB/second - 7.2 MB/request91 requests currently being processed, 6 idle workers(I hope i've provided enough and not too much info, not sure what to provide)
To the crux of the matter
1) I use the server to provide downloads of some unlicensed videos and movies, and from what I gather, the server is receiving too many connections? or running out of memory?
Is this right? Is 2Gb not enough? Is it worth $139 to upgrade to 3Gb?
About how much memory will I need? Is the CPU fine as it is?
2) Also, can I use the mod_limitipconn.c as in the forum to limit people downloading .avi's and .mkv's to 1? (even thou i use centos?)
3) Is there anything else I can do to ensure that the server doesn't get hammered too hard, and is still able to function (apart from the obvious having less users?)
4) Is there something else that is causing the server to become unresponsive (if it's not the lack of memory?)
I have 2 vps now and all are managed. i am paying 70 $ for this. i don't know the real differences between vps and dedicated server. i have many more dedicated servers in 1and1. i am using them for file storage only. there servers and network is really good. but support is less. but i didn't asked for their support in this 6 months. i can do everything myself from my CP. ok, back to the point now i got an offer from them today,
1& 1 root server S64 of genuine root servers for fastidious homepage and data base applications. In July for sensational 49euro/Month! Processor AMD Athlon 64x TM 3,200+, 2 x 80 GB non removable disk, 1 GB RAM uvm, plesk 8.1, 5000 GB bandwidth. So i am thinking about this offer and i am thinking about moving my 2 vps to this dedicated server. so actually what makes the difference ? because i saw lot of vps offers here and most of the good companies are charging 50$ + here. but this comes only 67 $. anyone thinks is this a good move? or is it so hard to manage the websites on dedicated server? please guide me mates. thanks
