Softlayer Be Aware Of Unexpected Server Disconnection
Jan 12, 2009
Today 3 of my shared webhosting servers with them were disconnected.
After investigation in their portal I find out that 3 days ago + 1 hour 3 tickets were created about "your server hosted malware" and now those tickets were auto-processed with 3 servers disconnection in result.
Very strange that I receive "ticket updates" emails today (when disconnection happens) but not recieve "ticket created" emails.
My contact email domain has 2 MXs and widely used and I have no complains for not-delivered emails before.
Currently I'm waiting feedback for my phone call and answers in those tickets asking them to connect back my servers for me to take necessary steps.
But this is very strange approach - to auto-disconnect 3 servers at once only because I didn't receive their 1 email per ticket.
I have a very perplexing problem. Like clockwork, every 7 days I find my Windows 2003 server to be unresponsive. I use remote desktop to login to find that it has unexpectedly shutdown. The even code is 6008 and I researched it through the MS link and it says it can be cause by unplugging the power cord or manually rebooting the server through a switch. Is it possible the UPS at my host has my server on some sort of timer that automatically kills the power once a week? There aren't any scheduled tasks to reboot it, and this is a fresh install as far as I know.
Xlhost is the most unreliable hosting company. i have one of their windows server . 25.05.2008 at 3 am is shut hang , we call several time to their support but its take to up 3 days . so i really suggest those you are think about the price plz think about the services. cause this company have big camping , but they dont have time to support their customer
aware of xlhost
i relay glad if all of you share their bad experience in hosting company plz share with us. so we can help each others.
i have hosting at servage.net 2 jrs already and one nice day they decided to delete all data on my account (like 5 gb of data) and 25 websites are gone and 2 developing projects, i didnt had backups for most of them... (80%)..
the most funniest thing is the answer: --------------------------------------------------------- Hello Ivo
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused There was an storage issue which caused the trouble. We have added <b>one month free hosting</b>. Please reupload your data. Thank you.
Kind regards, Nick, Support Servage Hosting -----------------------------------------------------
"ONE MONTH FREE HOSTING!" OMG
so my question would be , how can i sue motherf****s? or what are my options?
please post your experiences here with this scummy hosting that we can assure that this don't happened to anyone again.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 Server and during this week I had 2/3 unexpected reboots.
It seems like /var/log/messages is emptied after the reboot, so I don't know how to find out information before the reboot. At first I though of power outage, but I do have an UPS and the other servers were OK.
It seems that it happens always near the same time! I check the crontabs, I don't have any crontab near these times.
I check also the $last log, no one reboot the machine.
How can I find out what is happening? Might be any Kernel Panic error?
I recently logged into my Windows Server 2003 OS Server via Remote Desktop and was met with a message/box saying Why did this computer shutdown. It had a dropdown field for a reason and then empty text fields for Problem ID and Comment.
What steps can I take to figure out what happened?
My site prime357 . org is being unexpectedly, from time to time, re-directed to my host's site DrupalValueHosting.com.
It has now been a few weeks and this problem still remains. I have not set up any purpose re-direction to my host site. My .htaccess file has no reference to my host site.
My host, the other day, suggested that I change my site, temporarily, to prime357.net, whilst he (the host) works on the problem as to why prime357.org is directing to the host site.
Re-direction to my host site is still occurring.
I established that a few hours ago that someone did a whois on prime357 . org hours earlier and the IP resolved to 67.228.128.242 (which is my host's site). I did the same lookup and the IP resolved to 67.228.230.119 (which seemingly, is correct, is my site).
This problem is an intermittent problem and is happening to other customers of DVH.
I can't physically check or make adjustments (at least I think I can't). What solutions or what process would one go through to track down this type of problem. Is this a common mis-configuration type problem though I haven't come across it before.
I have 408 error and put a domain to impersonate the original is blank or rediccionamiento domain to the original. He always says: Time Up and error 408.
i am setting up a new server and am not sure what some of this is,i have just copies part of the page. Its a bit messed up but it will do.
What does Business Continuance Insurance What does Host Ping and TCP Service Monitoring 24x7x365 NOC Monitoring, Notification, and Response McAfee Host Intrusion Protection w/Reporting 10Mbps Hardware Firewall
Most explain themselves, but for the firewall ive already got mcaffec total protection does that have a fire wall and are any of these worth using.
we've been with Softlayer for a little over a year. The service has been good but their support has been a nightmare for us. There was a time that we were under a dos attack and they refused to do anything about it which is what forced us to switch.
But that's not the reason I'm here. My billing ends on the 12th, their terms require you cancel the server 3 days before billing ends. I pay manually each month by pay pal. I tried to cancel the server today, what I assumed was 3 days before the 12th and they told me I couldn't do it. That I had to pay for another full month. So I told them I just won't pay and they threatened me with a late fee. Is there anything legally these people can actually do to me if I don't pay? All they have is my contact information, I don't think they could submit to collections over that without my social security number.
I know there are a few threads that are somewhat similar, so I apologize from that aspect, but since I am still not sure of the best option, I thought I would post my exact requirements and hopefully get some good advice.
We need a Windowss dedicated server, probably in the 8 core/8gig RAM variety for a rather intensive Asp.net/MS SQL site. It is a corporate site that is expected to see heavy usage with fairly heavy DB/reportng related web pages.
The majority of people accessing the site will be connecting from Europe.
We will have little, if any, need for management support of Windows or IIS, we are primarily looking for reliable hardware, with quick hardware repair when failures come, and in a redundant DC to avoid downtime (hardware or internet pipe).
The price difference between rackspace and the others does not concern us, so price while a consideration, is towards the bottom of our list of priorities.
As our users are in Europe, a European DC would probably be ideal, but that is one question I have. How much difference will performance/latency be with an American DC vs. European DC for our European users.
English speaking (native language, preferably) support is a must.
A High powered machine (minimum would be 8 cores x 2ghz + 8 gig ram) is a must (possibly two servers -- possibly a router based load balancing of the two servers).
Fast, reliable/redundant internet pipe. We need a DC that will not be unreliable, wether it is from internet outages due to lack of redundancy, or speed fluctuations due to overselling the bandwidth.
So, basically, I have two main questions, I suppose.
First, since the majority of my users will be in Europe, should I only consider a European DC? How much difference will my European users see/feel if we are in a US DC? What difference does it make if the DC is on the East cost, then say Texas?
Second, with price not being a primary consideration, and needing little or no managed support (besides hardware support), just high power machines in a HIGHLY reliable DC, which are the best companies to go with?
As described in the title I need a paid monitoring service which provides sms alerts and tells SoftLayer immediately so they can investigate the issue and make what needed to bring the server online.
I like hyperspin.com service but it looks there is no way to send SoftLayer an automated notification because there is a need to open a ticket.
I can't be attendant at my office 24 hours so I need this service which alerts me with sms about the fail and simultaneously tells my provider so my server will not be down for a long time.
which company in terms of reliability, support, and mostly network (as I see it, SL and FDC have similar networks) is the best? Price isn't a real issue here .
My clients in LA - those on AT&T and Time Warner in paticular - are having bad download speeds from my server with Softlayer. Anyone else having similar trouble? Clients who normally get 500-700kb/s down are getting < 50 kb/s down, even early in the morning when the total traffic on my 100mbps port is under 1.5mbps.
Basically, east coast is fine, and anyone with a T1 in LA is fine as well - it's just DSL and Cable modems in LA that are screwed up. In fact, one of our are clients is using Apple Remote Desktop to connect to a remote client with a T1; it's faster to through Time Warner, then VPN to Verizon, and then connect Softlayer and back again than to go directly from Time Warner to Softlayer, which is really weird.
I was thinking of buying a new server from SoftLayer When this company called WebNX.com happened to catch my attention.
I did a search of WHT but could not find much about WebNX. I also went to their site (but not much info is published there like SLAs, support fee etc etc...
However, the custom quite they sent me sounds quite reasonable compared to softlayer.
Anyone who can share experience of hosting with webnx? or has more info webnx.com and can share their views will be nice.
For those who are still under the softlayer hacker abuse please note you will need to re-load your server. We got hit a 2nd time after thinking everything was clean. Anyhow, for those who got hit again, my team and another from WHT - forgot who made the original clean.php script...
anyhow, here is a tool to clean all the data for all of your users:Copy fixit.pl and clean4.php to a directory. IE: /home/yourusername
Change username "changeme" in fixit.pl to the username where clean4.php is located execute fixit.pl: IE: perl fixit.pl. If you want to test this on one user uncomment the die statement. When you are ready to do the entire server comment the die statement.
