Provide Hosting For Multiple Clients

Apr 15, 2009

I am a front end designer/developer with no server-side expertise. I am probably going to have to provide hosting to my freelance clients very soon. These would be small WP sites with low traffic, but there could be as many as 50 domains being hosted at a time just to begin with.

I need the host provider to do all the tech work and provide support to me, if not to the clients (who will inevitable contact me to deal with problems, which is OK). I am not able to manage/troubleshoot my own server.

I am considering Mosso/Rackspace, but recently I've heard some very negative comments on forums (such as this one) that are concerning me.

Does anyone have a recommendation given my needs and experience level with servers/hosting? I am not looking for a "cheap deal" - I need reliable service and peace of mind.

Your Opinion As A Customer: A Hosting Provider Who Couldn't Provide E-mail Hosting

Jun 4, 2009

Lets say you're a customer looking for web hosting, but do have technical experience - you know, you develop your own websites, you've had experience in this sort of thing before.

What if you came across a provider who seemed to offer a good service, they're high quality, they can host your website on their brilliant setup etc... but they do not provide any e-mail accounts with your hosting?

We're developing our own shared hosting setup, our own control panel too. Regardless of the control panel though, we wouldn't feel comfortable hosting peoples e-mail. We have plenty of experience in every other aspect of general shared hosting - but not looking after e-mail accounts nor the associated software.

To be honest I don't think that many shared hosting providers truely handle e-mail properly, and that job should really be left to the professionals.

We could of course guide customers or potential customers on why we won't offer e-mail accounts (i.e. not wanting to offer something we know we can't provide to a high enough standard) and instruct them on how to setup e-mail with another provider (such as Google, who will do this for free with limitations).

The alternative to the above is that we mask in a third party to look after e-mail, i.e. resell someone elses e-mail services as part of our hosting packages. The third party would require API access to setup/remove accounts..

What do you think? Are we just acting stupid trying to provide web hosting without e-mail hosting included? I noticed a while back Dreamhost encouraged their customers to use an alternative e-mail provider!

Clients E-mail Are Hanging Or Downloading Multiple Mails

Jul 28, 2007

I've got a client who seems to be having a problem with his e-mail on my VPS.

When he tries to download mails his browser(thunderbird) says 'Receiving one of 80' and hangs. The only solution is to go into webmail and delete some of the mails then try and receive them again. One thing that puzzles me is he doesn't have 80 mails in his account, he only have 33.

This isn't happening with anyone else who's using thunderbird and my VPS.

Best Method Of Offering Clients Hosting?

Mar 25, 2007

I'm in the process of forming a web development business and am currently interested in learning the various methods of offering 3rd party services and accounts. How to offer hosting is my current dilemma; I can of course refer the client to a host and receive a referral kick-back, but the idea of reselling hosting accounts is also appealing, though I have no knowledge currently as to how this works, and I'm basically just curious how other's manage this aspect of the business. I do not mind offering customer service on hosting accounts, so this is not an issue

Media Temple Grid Service Hosting With Clients

Oct 18, 2008

I currently own a reasonably sized VPS paying around 40/$80 a month for it. I am extremely happy with the service but I have recently move from freelance to being hired by a company.

I wish to scale down my costs so looking at other options.

I hear a lot (mostly good) of things about MT and was wondering what peoples experiences are - particular with ease of use, support and uptime.

I would also like to know about how the normal shared hosting option works for people hosting some clients website and email. I currently have around 10 clients hosting with me and 100 emails. Is it easy for clients to use and i assume pop and imap are supported.

I currently run my VPS on cpanel. would it be easy to transfer everything or is it very much of a manual job?

Plesk Automation :: Reseller Hosting Clients Traffic Stats Not Updating

May 16, 2013

I have noticed that resellers traffic stats (looks like email) are not being updated and just show 0.

On the server that is for resellers I see there is a file in /usr/local/psa/var/log containing a file mail_traffic_pendings.dat with sender and recipient domain traffic. I presume this has to be processed to go into the database, but obviously it is not. How to debug this issue so that email stats get updated for clients.

Hosting Multiple Sites On The Same Hosting Account. Getting A Weird Redirect

Oct 26, 2009

I have about 5 sites all hosted on my same hosting account. One of those domains is attached to the hosting account. I place my other domains in a folder of a sub-directory of my main domain. This has been working fine, up until today when i noticed a weird error. I give you a little example of how my sites are setup

my main domain:
www.maindomain.com

My other sites hosted in a sub-directory of my main domain:
www.maindomain.com/sites/site2/
www.maindomain.com/sites/site3/

How my other sites appear on the web:
www.site2.com
www.site3.com

This works fine for every page until i go to www.site2.com/index.php
It redirects to www.maindomain.com/sites/site2/index.php for some reason

Multiple IP Hosting...

Apr 27, 2009

I am looking for a multiple IP hosting solution for our network of 10 sites. Ideally I'm hoping to find a host which will allow me to consolidate all of our sites within one control panel, but be able to offer each site to be hosted on a unique class-c IP so that we can enhance the benefit of inter-linking between sites.

If you can suggest a solution beyond www.seohosting.com that would be fantastic.

Multiple URL’s With 1 Web Hosting Account

Jan 1, 2009

I am trying to determine the best design approach for this business need.

There are multiple URLs:

[url]
[url]
[url]

The URLs are going to be specific to a topic but the displaying of the pages is template based. For example, there is 1 JSP page that will display the content for a topic based on an ID.

[url]is ID 1 in my database table.
[url]is ID 2 in my database table.
[url]is ID 3 in my database table.

So I could do a form post to display the specific content for a topic.

Code:
<form name="frmTopic" action=”/topic” method="Post">
<input type="hidden" name="topicID" id="topicID" value="">
</form>
So by populating the topicID and posting this form, it directs to my JSP page and displays the content specific to the topic ID. So if I pass 1, content about cats is displayed. If I pass 2, dogs and 3, birds.

I want to keep the URLs specific to the topic but I do not want to pay for hosting for each site since the only difference from one site to another is 1 page. The 1 page is the page that tells the JSP page which topic to display (I realize I have to hard code the ID number after I add the topic to the database).

Here is my question.

Is there a way I can have a specific index.htm page for each site [url]with one hosting account (I am using GoDaddy)? Then I could have this page redirect to the template JSP passing the ID. I could then put very specific items about the topic on this page to hopefully improve its page rank in search engines.

If this is not possible, I could create an initial JSP page that checks the ServerVariable for the specific URL and then passes the ID… something like this:

Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_NAME")

I am looking for feedback on the best approach so if there is an option that I have not listed that is better, please let me know.

Multiple Site Hosting

Jan 21, 2009

I have always had cpanel reseller hosting accounts and am familiar with WHM. However I need to spread my sites out a bit and am noticing that multiple hosting is a fair bit cheaper than reseller. I don't host for others so dont really need reseller but am used to whm.

My question is how does multiple site hosting work? As I understand it you just have one logon with one ftp account. How do you upload and seperate/configure your sites? and can I still use .htaccess files for redirects?

Multiple Site Hosting (asp.net)

to create several 'small' sites, but I would ideally like to host all of these domains within one account. Is the only really way to do this is to have my own server or is there another way this can be achieved. I have seen loads of PHP based accounts where you can host multiple sites but I can't see any decent asp.net based accounts.

By hosting small sites I mean each site needs to be able to have its own domain name, email per site.

Multiple Domains On Shared Hosting

I run several sites and am wanting to setup several more. Currently I have two shared plans, but I don't like how the add-on domains are affected by the main domain (e.g. addon.main.com on 4## and 5## pages).

Is going reseller the easiest way for me to have these domains not affected by each other (a separate cpanel each)?

Finally, I don't use a lot of resources so are there actually reseller plans out there with lower prices (and lower resources too).

Hosting Service In Multiple Locations With One Panel

Apr 3, 2009

You know we done some great job on tweaking up WHMCS and also I think that we done some great job on setting up multi locations on WHMCS (almost 6

months hard work, almost hard…joke). Ok enough about us

So, actually we will show you some trick how to get coded WHMCS files work property for you.

You may think that it is another boring topic of how to or something, but unfortunately it’s not

I was looking for a lot of information of how to tweak up WHMCS and DirectAdmin together, but could find only bits and pieces of it…

In the mean time I would like to dedicate this topic to anyone who is currently seeking new web hosting services.

I had done one more post about how to get moving around hosting control panels, but still writing proper review about that confusing transfer process.

Choosing a web host for your business is one of the most important decisions you can make. If your site is down, your business is down. If you are

serious about your website and want to get solutions to your common hosting problems, this article will give you ten good reasons to choose for a global hosting company.

1.Hosting companies that work globally have different Data Centre to better service their customers. In case of a hardware failure, the system will automatically redirect traffic to the nearest Data Centre.

Don’t let server downtime and a slow connection cost you money!

2.Because of the different Data Centre, the backup systems are always secure. If a disaster strikes where your computer is located, your data remains safe in a remote location.

3.Global Hosting Companies work with a live support system. You can manage all aspects of your account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No time zones for services provided.

4.A support team is available 24/7 via phone and email to provide top-level support when you need it.

5.Because of the variety of customers from different continents, global hosting companies are able to offer flexible systems. They give prompt reaction time to customers’ needs and expectations.

6.Global hosting companies offer multiple compatible languages and language capabilities

7.Offering support of multiple database engines and both versions of PHP 4 and PHP 5 applications.

8.A support team routinely updates your server’s operating system and hardware with the newest updates, latest security patches and upgrades to ensure maximum security.

9.Global hosting companies have an experienced migration team to do all proper migration planning so that the transition can take place without a hitch.

10.Most global hosting companies have their own community website that allows customers to communicate and offer advice, and to share ideas and business solutions with each other.

Starting a business is difficult and picking the best out of thousands of web hosting companies out there is very crucial. Pick the right company to go with.

There are many companies providing great web hosting services so feel free to search for one that suits your needs.

Please review any additional information maybe I forgot to mention something…

Also I got some bad reviews of my first post in forum; even some people treated my post as a spam, but in some way information sharing in not
