Currently running WebCalendar but it is too buggy
with the failure of apple's mobileme (not compatible with IE6 + its wicked slow) I'm looking if there's any online calendar programs that I could install on my host.
The wife and I need a centralized location to update our schedules and appointments. MobileMe had promise but since it does not work with IE6, I'm SOL. Google also has an online calendar but for various reasons, I'd like to avoid google.
Since I have a web host, I was wondering if there's any open source (or commercial) applications that I could would allow maintain our schedules/appointments through the web.
There are diverse salespeople who sell my wife's artistic services and those of other photographers like her. They are looking to replace their currently self-hosted calendaring system with a hosted service. Can anyone here recommend one or a place for me to look? Here are some of the features I imagine they are looking for:
1) Individual calendars by photographer.
2) Easy color coding of items on the photographer calendar. They color code based on which salesperson found the job and if the job has a hold or a confirmed status.
3) Integration with iCal on the Mac. At a minimum, iCal users should be able to subscribe to calendars on the service.
4) Various levels of security. All salespeople should be able to update all photographers' calendars. Individual photographers should be able to see only their calendars and may (or may not) have permission to change them (this is determined on an individual photographer basis)).
5) Reliability. This is at the heart of their operation.
We've migrated a web hosting account from a Plesk 10 server to a Plesk 12 one but the customers Horde calendar and events settings haven't transferred over.I've tried exporting and importing the data manually and that seems to work, but why doesn't the migration manager bring this information across?
View 4 Replies View RelatedToday I wanted to configure server for colocation and I went to both HP and DELL, and everything was ok until I started to configure HDDs. Price of regular 1Tb HDD is about $500 on both DELL and HP, while same drive costs $84 on newegg. Whats the catch? I mean processor, RAM, and everything else has normal prices, but HDDs are 6X more expensive than normal price.
Do you know any good site where I can configure server and order it to colocation address. Also it must be very cheap ? Best would be if I could order components from new egg, send them to company which assembles everything and then send it to DC.
I hope this is in the correct section. Secondly, here is my issue that I am hoping someone can help with. I run a fairly successful video streaming site with several thousand members, and several thousand videos. I am trying to determine how many users I have online at any given time. Does anyone know of a piece of software/code out there that can provide me with this information in real time?

I'm in the process of putting together an online radio show, which will require live stream for a small audience at the beginning. I'm not familiar with online stream so I would like to hear from some of the expert on how to proceed.

I am currently shopping for web hosting for an online store (that would provide software - mostly automatically downloadable upon payment).
My estimates for initial operation of my web/online store are:
Storage: (10MB/app x 50 apps) + 50MB overhead = 550 MB
Monthly transfer: 5000 purchases/month x 10MB/app = 10 GB
Number of email accounts: up to 10
By "initial" I mean first year, not first month.
My intent is to develop my own osCommerce based web store for downloadable software that I develop. PHP and MySQL support are must. My estimates are not carved in stone. In the beginning I will certainly use much less "monthly transfer" than I specified and in the long term I hope to be using much more "monthly transfer" (as marketing evolves and the business becomes more established)...
The most important factors to me are (in the following order):
1) Reliability (up-time, security)
2) Tech support
3) Expandability (room to grow)
The company that registered my domain name provides web hosting with much more than I initially need (5GB space, 250GB transfer, 50 email accounts) for under $3 a month.
This is a price that I can afford. However, I am not sure whether it is a good idea to have both the web hosting and domain registration provided by the same company? Any opinions/comments you have about this? Is my doubt in this regard unfounded?
Secondly, is there some independent source (user/customer reviews OK) that compares the reliability of web hosting providers? (I would have given the name of my registrar here but I am unsure whether this would constitute advertising. If mentioning names or asking for references is allowed please let me know and I will post it here so that I can get your opinions about it).
Thirdly, is there any significance for where, geographically, the actual servers are located? Main consideration is access speed for customers...
I have been looking to talk to BurstNET reps about a possible purchase (gunna attempt to maybe negotiate a deal - trying to choose between VolumeDrive and BurstNET) but I have yet to find their chat to be online in the past week or so; I have checked during all hours of the day (meaning at different times of the day... not literally every single hour).
Furthermore I tried dropping their sales an email but have not got any sort of response yet (albeit its only been over a day but not even a confirmation or anything).
I will probably try to drop them an email again but was just wondering if anyone has ever had a live chat w/ BurstNET reps before?
What type of servers would you recommend us to use and what software also should we use.
Am not sure about the software part.
I am making a plan to make an website that will have an radio fucntion that will play whatever the user would like play, from what I have made available and the radio would have different channels. Also there will be an Forums section and an article section.
The article section woulbe be articles that I wrote.
I would like some advice on what technology should I used to acheieve my results. Also what type of web hosting would I need? From the above specs would I need a database?
i'm starting an online advertising business and I'm looking for some kind of site-builder that facilitates web directory sites. Not just textual links.. but whole listings.. picture, menu, stuff like that, a google map to show location.. a proximity search feature.. anyone know of any site builders that have built-in templates to facilitate this? I suppose it's possible to pick a regular site builder with an ordinary template and start from scratch.. but it seems easier the other way.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my godaddy account, At this time my credit card is expiring within a month. when i try to log my hosting accounts and domain manager. It says to give a call for Godaddy billing support number. I tried it, but very busy. I sent few emails and no replies yet. So i couldn't access my account. I paid all bills. Luckily i don't have any expiring domains within few months.
Is this safe? because i need at least 2 weeks to get new credit card? When i check my domain by a whois tool it says like "Prohibited", something.
"Registrar Status: clientDeleteProhibited
Registrar Status: clientRenewProhibited
Registrar Status: clientTransferProhibited
Registrar Status: clientUpdateProhibited"
why godaddy is not user friendly like Hostgator. When i have problems in Hostgator, their online support is helpful.
Ideally something extremely user friendly and customisable with good SEO support.

There are relatives on other continents who won't be able to attend, so we're trying to figure out the best way that they'd be able to watch.
Don't want to stream directly since there might be up to 10 people watching, and don't want to have any lag.
Any suggestions on the best route to go? Maybe there is a service and I'm just not looking in the right spot.
I think I want a quality server to host a cam stream for a few hours in early June. Or should I be looking for something else?
I have plans of introducing a website so that I can start my online business. The site will be dealing in computer accessories and all the hardware stuff that is related to the computer field with an online purchase facility. But, before that I would like to know the pre-requisites that are needed to run a website of your own that has an online payment option, as I was informed about the SSL certificate issues by my developer and would like to know more on this from you people.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI tried signing up for a few of those online image hosts. I would upload a few images, carefully read their instructions, and code my page to go get the pictures to show up on my webpages. I tried about four different ones. No matter what I did, following their instructions, looking in different browsers, checking file names etc, I always had trouble finding my pictures. Not just trouble--my images just never show up when I put them in these free online file places. Usually I am pretty sharp about stuff like this but now I have to wonder: What is going on with that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have dedicated server with a Swedish hosting company. We have a network/community website that can have about 300 people online at the same time. But as soon it gets to 240-280 people get logged out (Sessions are closed). The website becomes extremly slow.
What can we do to have at least 2000 people online at the same time with out any session being killed?
Do we have to upgrade the memory from 1 GB > 2 GB? Or do we need 10>100 Mb port? Unmetered server?
Just curious if anyone here happens to run an Ultima Online shard in a Linux environment. If yes, how kind of setup do you have? My current setup on my home server is vmware and from a server stand point performance is great, but the network is the bottleneck - my isp sucks for that stuff. I moved it to deciated but it's actually bloody laggy and I got a few people to test it and they said it's worse. Somewhat playable, but not to my taste. So while this is quite a specific situation, figured I'd ask in case anyone does happen to have a solution.
The only issue I can see is that I used win2k instead of win2k3 as the VM but win2k is lighter weight so doubt that is the issue.
