I wanted to take a minute to throw out a review of a good host I found a few months back. I remember while I was looking for them that I found a ton of "Avoid XYZ host" or "ABC host is terrible," but very few reports of a host that people would suggest TO use.
In any case, I transferred my business domain (www.thecliplady.com) over to MDDHosting (www.mddhosting.com) a few months back and everything has been fantastic. As I recall, my account was setup quickly, and they helped me to transfer from my old server and setup my SSL cert right away. Since then, I have had almost 0 downtime, was always notified of maintenance or issues that might affect my account, and generally everything was quite snappy (pages loaded quickly, etc).
But, the one thing that really blows me away and is truly fantastic about MDDHosting is the support. In my time with them, I have filled 5 support tickets. In the worst case, I waited about 25 minutes for a response. Yesterday, my ticket was responded to in 2 minutes, and completely resolved in 3 minutes (It was a simple issue, but it was nice to not wait to finish deploying my new site).
Here is a screenshot of that last ticket: [url]
To sum it up, I feel very confident in suggesting MDDHosting to anyone who values great support and a stable server. Plus, the prices aren't bad either. Make sure you at least check them out, seriously!

We've got a discounted Quad dedi box from Ecatel.net about a week ago. Their network and prices are really good, sure. But we still have problems with start up because the second hdd isn't mounted or installed properly. The support team has answers about 1-2 times per day only so this question is in progress already for days.. The helpdesk is locked somehow from todays morning (I see our account is present but there's no way to log in) and we are still waiting for replys from day-before-yesterday requests...
I wouldn't like to be some kind of sharp under any circumstances and I respect every business but this is probably too long so we have to pay now just for waiting to get a server ready with no start yet.
Does somebody work with them? Is it normal situation? We still have some boxes in Layeredtech and would like to move to European DC (these boxes are middle-ended so we need more power now). There were no such problems in LT. Never. The maximum response time to such kind of questions was 2-5 hours (15 minutes in general), maybe a bit more (for hardware setup requests), but not days and nights with no progress indicator.
Maybe that is a European DC highlight strategy to have such delays with tickets response, isn't it? Coz the European market is new for us, anyway, we've never had boxes there before but would like to.

I`ve been using virpus for 6 months and support was always terrible but uptime was good.
I`ve never been able to login to hypervm which i`ve supposed to login, when i open a ticket regarding this they always forward the ticket to so called management department which in fact do nothing at all.
If you`re looking a vps provider with no support but good uptime then choose virpus but if you`re looking for little bit support then stay away from them.

So here's my situation: I have a rented vent server, that I wanted to point vent.mydomain.com to the IP of said vent server. I put an A record in the dns pointing to the server and all is well. When I type vent.mydomain.com into a browser it take me to the cPanel/WHM page saying "Great Success, Apache is working". Is it possible that I can somehow have that get redirected to the main site or no?
Basically if Im connecting with the vent client, I want it forwarded to the vents IP, otherwise I want to have it redirected to mydomain.com.

They have been amazing from the start. The server was up and running in no time, have had ZERO problems in the last 5 months excellent support, they fixed many issues that our incompetent website developers messed up, they went above and beyond every time. Always very friendly and helpful.
2 days ago our website was infected with an iframe virus, anyone who visted the site was infected with a trojan. This was due to the horrible job our developers did at setting permissions on the server and general stupidity. Once again, liquidweb came to the rescue, and worked tirelessly until they cleaned our site up, and brought it back online again. They even helped secure the site to help prevent this from happening again.
I honestly dont know what we would have done without their HEROIC support.

More than 12 emails to explain the issue...
& 3 telephonic calls....
Several server log errors shown to help resolve the issue...
Several screenshots....
Nearly 20 hours......
Not a single convincing reply.
Some shift changers do not even read the past emails.
Imagine the trouble to explain everything....
Being associated with LW for many months I cannot say support is bad. But heroic! a big question mark...

I have a managed dedicated box in Liquidweb for nearly 1 year and never call them by phone. Don't get me wrong, they have very good server and support via ticket so far until recently the server is getting ddos attack and have to be null route an ip address on the server.
I have a ticket about this issue and communicate back and forth however the ddos attack is very strong and the null route have to be continue. After many hours of null route, I decided to request to remove it to see if the ddos attack have been gone. As usual I submit the request through the old ticket but not getting any response after more than 30 minutes. I think the person in charge might be busy so I lift up my phone and call to Liquidweb for reminder of the message in the ticket.
Surprisingly the person who pick up the phone ask for the password of my account or the last 4 digits of my credit card number. I told him that I don't pay by credit card (I used paypal to pay) and he keep asking me my Liquidweb account password for verification purpose. I was stucked there because I don't know whether it is correct step to giveaway my Liquidweb account password? I finally told him that I will open a new ticket to remind them to reply to the message in the old ticket and hang up the phone.
Any Liquidweb customer here who have called them via phone support? Kindly share your experience here. Is the procedure to get account password for verification was one of the correct steps?

I had to bump a server we have over at the planet, but I cannot seem to determine the cause of its unresponsiveness (everything down to even simple ping). I checked APF logs and it didn't show anything except its normal periodic refresh of rules and such. I also see an selinux warning about proftpd trying to get to proftpd.conf and I saw something about selinux blocking mysql from using mysql.sock as well - I temporarily disabled SELINUX all together (it was in targeted mode). In the log files, it did log the fact though that it received SIGTERM and was going to runlevel 0, so it wasn't completely dead. I've gone through quite a few other logs and have come up empty handed. Is there anything else I can do? I want to get to the bottom of this.

I've been fighting with a cpanel VPN for a few days now. I'm trying to figure out how to implement a filter for stopping spam over a point count of say 10 from being sent to our central spam box.
I've tried several different settings in the .filter file, but am having no luck.
here is what is in the .filter now.
Code:
$message_headers contains "X-Spam-Level: **********"+++++++/dev/null
$h_X-Spam-Status: begins "Yes"+++++++spam@example.com
This is what I had tried, with no luck
Code:
# Exim filter
logfile /home/USER/filter.log
logwrite "Logging"
if error_message then finish endif
if $h_X-Spam-Level: contains "**********"
then
Discard
logwrite "discarded"
seen finish #delete them!
endif
if $h_X-Spam-Status: begins "Yes"
then
deliver spam@example.com
logwrite "sending to spam"
seen finish
endif
The log didn't work (I touched the file and chowned/chmoded it.. no luck), and all the mail kept getting through to the spam box.. some with scores of 20+.
It should be filtering the spam with a higher level (10 or up) and tossing them away, allowing the 5-10 point mails to go through to the spam box.
So far everything is going through. If you need more logs to see what is happening, I'll be happy to get them up.

Centos 7, Plesk 12
Problem:
PHP-FPM support for nginx will not start when attempted in Tools & Settings > Services Management
Check error log:
#tail /var/log/php-fpm/error.log
ERROR: unable to bind listening socket for address '/var/www/vhosts/system/domain.tld/php-fpm.sock': Permission denied (13)
Possible problem:
SELinux may be preventing it. To test this do:
#setenforce 0
Now try and start PHP-FPM support again in Tools & Settings > Services Management
If that now starts you know what the problem is. Go to "Fix" below
If it didnt work, you have a different issue. Turn SELinux back on while you figure it out:
#setenforce 1
Fix:
The following worked for me but i know very little about SELinux - corrections welcome:
## Turn SELinux to permissive
# setenforce 0
## In Plesk panel start PHP-FPM support in Tools & Settings > Services Management
[Code]....

how uncommon it is for a hosting company to install PEAR extensions for their clients. Why I ask is because I am not sure how to install them myself. I currently use WAMP, which installed PHP, APACHE, and MySQL for me. So I am looking for a way to use PEAR extensions. If not on my personal machine, a server would be fine.
I guess I am looking for some suggestions. Pershaps something like WAMP which makes it very simple, or a hosting company you know that will install extensions for someone on a shared account.

I am trying to install the Mail_Mime Package from PEAR with the command "pear upgrade Mail_Mime".
All I get is this Error Message:
Code:
pear/Mail_Mime requires PEAR Installer (version >= 1.6.0), installed version is 1.5.0
pear/Mail_mimeDecode requires PEAR Installer (version >= 1.6.0), installed version is 1.5.0
pear/Mail_mimeDecode requires package "pear/Mail_Mime" (version >= 1.4.0, excluded versions: 1.4.0)
No valid packages found
upgrade failed
The funny thing is, I've already upgraded the PEAR package to the latest (1.6.1) with the command "pear upgrade PEAR", successfully.
Update: I could fix the problem, see here for details: [url]

I have installed PEAR on my
localhost/apache server and
have no problem running pear
scripts such as HTLM Quickform
and validator. (php Anthology
Vol 1 & 2 by Harry Fuecks)
)
But I am having problems
getting Pear to install on
my Linux shared server.
GoDaddy say that Pear is loaded by
default with php4 and are not prepared
to assist in any further installations.
I know that a copy of the pear installation
can be uploaded to the folder where I host
my site. I ran the following script
and this shows that PEAR is enabled
<?php
include("PEAR.php");
$p = new PEAR();
print_r($p);
?>
:OutPut in browser:
PEAR Object
(
[_debug] =>
[_default_error_mode] =>
[_default_error_options] =>
[_default_error_handler] =>
[_error_class] => PEAR_Error
[_expected_errors] => Array
(
)
)
I have searched the forum but I am still
none the wiser. If there is anyone on the
forum who had been through the setup
procedure before I would welcome your help.

I'm following the guides in programming OOP+PEAR from these 2 books:
[url]
So far things seems to work on my own Desktop LAMP. But the question is will my hours of PHP 5 coding work on my current webhost One.com?
I'm a newbie so I haven't fully understood how to utilize PEAR yet but when chatting with One.com's Live support and emailing them. They tell me this.
- That they support both PHP 4 and PHP 5.
- That they support PEAR for PHP 4 but not PHP 5.
- That they don't know when they will install PEAR support for PHP 5.
How should I interpret this information? Do I just keep working on the PHP 5 codes like the book instructs and wait until they install PEAR for PHP 5. Or should I switch webhost as soon as possible?

Because i have couple site hosted by both hosting company (DTH=downtownhost and TCH=totalchoicehosting) and have positive experience with them i needed to make decision who will be hoster for my new project.
The problem was by both company and by 99% others that traceroute command is not enabled by default and it is essential for my new project.
After exchanging a couple emails with both companies DTH was winner again because DTH allow on shared hosting traceroute command (in situation that you need it).
Answer from TCH was that only on VPS (semi-dedicated) is traceroute command possible and not on shared envirovment.
I must again praise DTH for the way how they handle with their customers and that they are ready to do everything for their customers. Not wonder that they are one of the greatest hosting company.

I'll keep it short and sweet. I signed up for medialayer on December 23, 2007. Its been more than 6 months and there has been not one unscheduled downtime, the support is phenomenal on the rare occasion I need to use it and its the fastest host I've ever used, dedicated or shared. My sites have been on the front page of Digg, Osnews, Stumbleupon and I've yet to see my hosting so much as shudder. Unbelievably powerful servers. They are accommodating, friendly and brilliant.
No, they don't have terabytes of bandwidth and it doesn't cost $1 per month; but it doesn't get much better than this otherwise.
Hosted sites ticketed to mod team. Keep up the great work, Medialayer.

After getting completely fed up with bluehost (my site was so slow!), I recently switched to mddhosting. I had considered other hosts, but luckily, I found this forum before switching -- and I discovered mddhosting here!
I'd highly recommend mddhosting. They took the time to talk to me and answer all my questions before I switched (and I asked a lot of questions!). After I took the plunge, they basically did all the work for me migrating my website. I was shocked! There was one small glitch in the migration as some software wasn't installed on their server that I needed, but they cleared this up in less than an hour after I submitted my support ticket. Since then, its been smooth sailing. My site is really fast -- I've never had to wait for a page to load. I host some videos, so I was a little worried about these, but they are just as fast as the rest of my content. The only other time I've needed support was when I changed SSL certificates, and again, they pretty much handled everything for me.
Great service! I'd highly recommend them.

Its really easy to get in contact with HostGator staff either by Phone, Live Chat, or Ticket they always resolve whatever issue i'm having in a timely manner. I also like calling HostGator and not talking with someone in India who has no knowledge of what I'm trying to get help with and doesn't even know much about that company, I get that enough when I call Dell lol. Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that if you are looking for Shared, Reseller, or Dedicated web hosting then choose HostGator.com .
