Figure Out Exim Filters With Spamassassin

Jun 1, 2007

I've been fighting with a cpanel VPN for a few days now. I'm trying to figure out how to implement a filter for stopping spam over a point count of say 10 from being sent to our central spam box.

I've tried several different settings in the .filter file, but am having no luck.

here is what is in the .filter now.

Code:
$message_headers contains "X-Spam-Level: **********"+++++++/dev/null
$h_X-Spam-Status: begins "Yes"+++++++spam@example.com
This is what I had tried, with no luck

Code:

# Exim filter

logfile /home/USER/filter.log

logwrite "Logging"

if error_message then finish endif

if $h_X-Spam-Level: contains "**********"
then
Discard
logwrite "discarded"
seen finish #delete them!
endif

if $h_X-Spam-Status: begins "Yes"
then
deliver spam@example.com
logwrite "sending to spam"
seen finish
endif
The log didn't work (I touched the file and chowned/chmoded it.. no luck), and all the mail kept getting through to the spam box.. some with scores of 20+.

It should be filtering the spam with a higher level (10 or up) and tossing them away, allowing the 5-10 point mails to go through to the spam box.

So far everything is going through. If you need more logs to see what is happening, I'll be happy to get them up.

Configure Exim And Spamassassin

May 20, 2009

I need to configure Spamassassin to not check outgoing mails

So I need to check only mails that are hosts on my mail server, but mails which relay not to be checked.

configuration of Spamassassin in exim:

warn spam = nobody
warn message = X-Spam_score: $spam_score

X-Spam_score_int: $spam_score_int

X-Spam_bar: $spam_bar

X-Spam_report: $spam_report
condition = ${if eq {$acl_m1}{local_to_check_spam} {yes}{no}}
!condition = ${if eq {$acl_m0}{local_to_check} {yes}{no}}

Maybe it's need just one line in Spamassassing local.cf?

SpamAssassin - Deleting Files From /home/user/.spamassassin

Jun 25, 2009

I need to clean up the .spamassassin directory for all the accounts on the server. The Bayes files are getting too big and causing mail handling issues.

How would I do that?

I assume this won't work - and don't want to try it until I hear a little feedback:

rm -f /home/*/.spamassassin/*bayes*

Basically, I need a command that will do what the above command looks like it would do - I just don't think the wildcards will work in that manner, and don't want to try it for fear of deleting items outside of the .spamassassin directory.

I'm running CentOS 5.3.x with cPanel/WHM - if it matters...

And feel free to suggest other spam blocking software - but we've gotten rather good at tweaking SA to get the job done. Just this annoyance of the bayes files growing continuously is a pain sometimes...

Trying To Figure Out Why A System Locked Up And Hung

Mar 2, 2008

I had to bump a server we have over at the planet, but I cannot seem to determine the cause of its unresponsiveness (everything down to even simple ping). I checked APF logs and it didn't show anything except its normal periodic refresh of rules and such. I also see an selinux warning about proftpd trying to get to proftpd.conf and I saw something about selinux blocking mysql from using mysql.sock as well - I temporarily disabled SELINUX all together (it was in targeted mode). In the log files, it did log the fact though that it received SIGTERM and was going to runlevel 0, so it wasn't completely dead. I've gone through quite a few other logs and have come up empty handed. Is there anything else I can do? I want to get to the bottom of this.

Filters Not Working

Feb 15, 2008

It seems my email filters in cpanel do not work at all. I put for example two filters for a specific email address spamming me. One is 'any headers' and the other is 'from'. I'm stilling getting spammed from this email address / IP.

I had reset exim to defaults also. Using Cpanel 11, stable.

Creating Filters On The Server

Jun 26, 2007

I have been using IMAP for the last few years, but I find it difficult to retain my carefully built set of filters across PC and laptop changes.

Is there a way to set filters at the server level so that they work at all times whether I am using Webmail (Horde or SquirrelMail) or a PC or a laptop? Kind of a set once and forget it thing?

I can see the email filtering option in each domain's cPanel, but I am not too sure it's the most robust option.

Cpanel Filters Don't Work

Nov 20, 2007

Cpanel 11
centos 4.5

I am testing the email filters here (account level). I sent an email from my gmail to my main hosted domain.

Subject: test
body: ä

(get foreign spam with special characters as the above)

In the filter I added two rules:

any header / discard
body / discard
(for ä)

Email still comes through.

CPanel 11, New Mail Filters Dont Work

Jun 13, 2007

I had made a post earlier about trying to get an exim ACL or filter to work with cpanel 10 to deny all messages with a 10 or above spam rating while forwarding 5-10 scored messages to a spambox, but I decided to tryout upgrading to CPanel 11 which adds a built-in solution.

I've had no luck using WHM's Exim Configuration editor with

"Reject mail at SMTP time if the spam score from spamassassin is greater than 10.0."

Checked under ACL's and Filters.

Exim - How To Remove Rbl Lists From Exim.conf

May 2, 2007

I am having issues in receieving emails. For some reason, the rbl lists I had setup are causing the server to reject emails (retry - timeout). So, I need to take this rbl list completely. How can I do that? exim.conf is locked and using the advanced editor is no fun even though I tried it putting the dnslists without the rbl causing the problem.
