DTH Is Simple Great
May 27, 2009
Because i have couple site hosted by both hosting company (DTH=downtownhost and TCH=totalchoicehosting) and have positive experience with them i needed to make decision who will be hoster for my new project.
The problem was by both company and by 99% others that traceroute command is not enabled by default and it is essential for my new project.
After exchanging a couple emails with both companies DTH was winner again because DTH allow on shared hosting traceroute command (in situation that you need it).
Answer from TCH was that only on VPS (semi-dedicated) is traceroute command possible and not on shared envirovment.
I must again praise DTH for the way how they handle with their customers and that they are ready to do everything for their customers. Not wonder that they are one of the greatest hosting company.

I'll keep it short and sweet. I signed up for medialayer on December 23, 2007. Its been more than 6 months and there has been not one unscheduled downtime, the support is phenomenal on the rare occasion I need to use it and its the fastest host I've ever used, dedicated or shared. My sites have been on the front page of Digg, Osnews, Stumbleupon and I've yet to see my hosting so much as shudder. Unbelievably powerful servers. They are accommodating, friendly and brilliant.
No, they don't have terabytes of bandwidth and it doesn't cost $1 per month; but it doesn't get much better than this otherwise.
Hosted sites ticketed to mod team. Keep up the great work, Medialayer.

After getting completely fed up with bluehost (my site was so slow!), I recently switched to mddhosting. I had considered other hosts, but luckily, I found this forum before switching -- and I discovered mddhosting here!
I'd highly recommend mddhosting. They took the time to talk to me and answer all my questions before I switched (and I asked a lot of questions!). After I took the plunge, they basically did all the work for me migrating my website. I was shocked! There was one small glitch in the migration as some software wasn't installed on their server that I needed, but they cleared this up in less than an hour after I submitted my support ticket. Since then, its been smooth sailing. My site is really fast -- I've never had to wait for a page to load. I host some videos, so I was a little worried about these, but they are just as fast as the rest of my content. The only other time I've needed support was when I changed SSL certificates, and again, they pretty much handled everything for me.
Great service! I'd highly recommend them.

where I can get a simple SSL certificate for my web hosting business? So my customers feel safe on submitting their information. Is the standard SSL from GoDaddy pretty good?

So I was trying to run a backup process in Plesk 8.1 and the whole panel froze up on me (it's happened numerous times before).
Anyway, since the panel was all frozen up I just went into SSH and did a simple "reboot" (also, as done before many times). Only problem is, this time after I did the reboot the server never actually came back online... it seems to be locked up or something, I have no idea what.
I called my host and they are looking into it but they have no idea what's going on either and it's taking them forever to figure it out all the meanwhile my sites are down.... this isn't good.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice as to why this could be occuring?

Can you see if my site will load for you:

Then (if it loads) post the stats from the bottom of the page:
Page creation time: (Numbers)
And:
Your Os:
Your Browser:
Some people say my site won't load or is loading slowly for them, but I have no one to test it, thanks. If possible, I need quite a few tests.

I've been hosted on Hawkhost since last year (exactly as it will be expiring on October) and they have been great. I don't regularly check my own website but everytime I do, it's up and running. They were so good I never even had to contact them (only in the beginning because of site transfer). I even forgot what I was hosted on because the whole year just went by so smoothly.

I'm been with HostGator for about 2 years now and I love their service! Its really easy to get in contact with HostGator staff either by Phone, Live Chat, or Ticket they always resolve whatever issue i'm having in a timely manner. I also like calling HostGator and not talking with someone in India who has no knowledge of what I'm trying to get help with and doesn't even know much about that company, I get that enough when I call Dell lol. Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that if you are looking for Shared, Reseller, or Dedicated web hosting then choose HostGator.com .

I found vps media through WHT about a month ago, I saw they allowed several gaming servers on their vpses, and it was interesting to give a CS 1.6 and CS Source a try on a vps.
I signed up using a 20% off special, which is pretty cheap, compared to other xen providers.
I've been really happy with their service, as they are very easy to communicate with, and I love their notifications whenever a scheduled maintenance is due.
Their community is still small, but they're growing little by little, I saw a big spike of people registered in their forums right after a new WHT offer post. Their blog is current, well written and specially good content, mostly just news about their service, but always interesting in reading them.

So earlier this month I decided to buy hosting from Hostamina.com - I called them on their toll free number and they seemed like they would be very helpful and they said they were willing to help me from the ground up because I'm kind of new to websites.
It kills me to say this (because everyone says it's so easy), but I barely even know HTML. Anyway, I signed up with them and didn't even know where to begin. They showed me where I could choose from thousands of free website templates, and then they even helped me customize it! They explained to me what was wrong with my HTML code and how to fix it, and even fixed some of it themselves!
So, after reading so many hosting horror stories all over the internet this made me feel kind of lucky that I picked a good one for my first host.
Also, my pages always seem to load really fast - I think this has something to do with them not overselling like a lot of the supposedly unlimited space/bandwidth companies, but I'm not quite sure.

I need to remind you before you read any of this, I have only been with them (racksrv.com) for half of a month, but within that half of month, I have tested them (racksrv.com) in many, many ways.
I couldn't see many reviews of them (racksrv.com), so thought I would give one. I will keep updating this review as time pass's.
Alright, where to start. Some time ago, I came to them in need of a dedicated server. I would like to first point out their support / sales. To be honest, test them. Send a ticket in, and see how long it takes them to reply. Even on weekends, go for it.
My point is, somehow, they seem to answer all of my tickets, whether they be sales or support, super fast. I literally have not seen them reply later than around 30 minutes, ever. Most times, it was way, way under that.
They must have it synced with their PDA's or something. Well, either way its amazing. I ask questions, regarding anything, and they always come up with an answer for me.
Now onto when my services was setup. I was sort of a special customer. I needed a special deal, something they did not really have listed on their site. I contacted them on the weekend, and got reply's to all my questions.
They told me what they could do for me, when they could set it up, and everything was done correctly. They setup the server when they were supposed to, they installed the right operating system, and on top of that they updated the server for me (only a simple "yum update", but still, never saw that from any host).
Onto the network. It is quite amazing. From North America, the pings are still low. There are no slow downs, and the port you get is dedicated. Yes, dedicated. I know that as a fact, as I have tested it at many different times of the day, and getting 100mbit full was possible every time.
They are a bit expensive yes, but to be honest, its worth it. All in all, so far, they are great.
I know you are IMMEDIATELY thinking, "bah, it's only been half a month, how can you review over that short of a period?!". Simply because I have been with over 30 providers over the years. And I have seen nothing as good as this.
Like I previously said, I will post another review later on or update this one. That is about it.

I'm coming upto the end of my third month with Sentris.com
Their prices are good, support has had good response times and resolution on problems I have had. They seem to sort out nearly anything despite only being on basic management.
I haven't had any downtime, on a good network and machine. When I first ordered my server they didn't have the said processor in stock, said they would get it the next day or that I could upgrade to a better processor; which I did and my server was up within a few hours .
I've seen a few negative reviews about Sentris from the past but not many new positive reviews so I though I'd right one for them.

I was searching a few days ago for a good vps hosting. When I found out VPSLAND.COM, I was very surprised. Their prices are the cheapest on the net and, I thinked it was an hoax. So I did a bit of search on the net, and I found many negatives comments on them. But, I decided I try them anyway and buy a Windows VPS... and I think it was the good option !
The "supposed" downtimes and "non-replying support team" are totaly fictive. You want service, then, you get it with VPSLAND.COM. They offer great VPS plans at a price you will never see at other webhosters. And, since 3 days, no downtime.
I would like to hear people's stories about VPSLAND.COM if anyone haves.

We spent days and days looking at all the available options for a VPS account. We decided on Galaxyvisions.com after reading some reviews on other sites.
We've been in the Internet business since 1996 and have used literally dozens of hosts. Galaxy Visions ROCKS! The level of support they have provided is seldom matched - quick, efficient, and knowledgeable. Great prices also - what else could you ask for?
I usually don't take the time to review products or services that I pay for - but after Galaxy quickly helped us out of a major jam with the VPS account - I felt compelled to do so.
They completely rebuilt the account for us within a couple hours of the request - we usually wait longer than that for any kind of response at all from other host.

when I get a server it comes with cPanel and I don't have to do much to get it going, but this time I don't need all the bells and whistles. What should I do to get a server with only CentOS to start running a pretty simple web server that just listens on whatever ip? I just want it to run php, mysql, and a web server which I know how to setup already. What I want to know is what else is necessary to setup? Resolvers, the hostname, bind, named, etc?

I cannot express this enough: Stay away from Simple Helix!
We switched to them after our last $5/mo host kicked us out without warning. Simple Helix is just as bad but more expensive... Their support system is awful. Our website is down at least once or twice a week without any warning or support.
You cannot talk to anyone in their support. You have to write a stupid ticket. Then you wait and wait until someone decides to open it and read it. The if you are lucky, they will respond to it. But you gotta be REALLY lucky that they respond with something useful. Most of their responses are irrelevant or do not make sense.
Last week my website was destroyed because their server crashed. When i wrote a support ticket, which was answered 24 hours later, they said that I did it! Then they told me I had to pay them to fix the problem. Only when I contacted their corporate offices they got their admin working on it. Even then, it took over a week to fix the website. The admin would only respond when he wanted and sometimes he would ignore my messages to the point where I had to open new tickets to tell them to take care of my original ticket.
JUST STAY AWAY! WHATEVER YOU DO-DO NOT GO WITH SIMPLE HELIX.
It seems nexcess.net is a good host and I am going to be calling them tomorrow to talk to them about switching to them.

I've recently re-designed my website to WP and my host which I've been with for the last 5 years has suspended my site for system abuse. Is WP no good? They suspended it last week so I added a cache which they said had fixed it, now they've comeback and said its still overloading. My site gets around 500 visitors a day. Does this sound right?
I've already had to ban google bots from my forums because of overloading in the past.
Can anyone recommend a host that can handle a wordpress site that gets 500 visitors a day?

I am just posting a simple reviewof my experience with MKOH (My Kind of Host)
Great people they seem from the e-mail correspondences. Just one problem with there automated message upon account setup. Include the name servers.
The support has been prompt during the day and it's been a few hours since I've e-mailed them and heard nothing back and it's nighttime which sort of worries me for the long run. No one around at night.
So, I ordered this morning 10PM EST and the acccount was setup within normal business hours. But since then haven't received a response with the nameservers. I could assume it's ns1.mkoh.com and ns2.mkoh.com but that's most likely not them or they could have multiple servers or even a datacenter or offshoots so I can't assume.
Again, great during the day. Night a bit rough. This is day 1. I will let people know here if this thread isn't deleted what happens after tonight I just think support at night is important in this industry.

ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:smtp
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp spt:smtp

ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp
dpt:webcache
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp
dpt:distinct
ACCEPT all -- ip-XXX-XXX-XX-XXX.ip.myserver.net anywhere
DROP all -- anywhere anywhere
I tried to follow this HOWTO:
[url]
It appears to work on most ports. However, when I try a web site on that
server, port 80, it starts but never finishes - never goes to that page. The progress bar looks like it's almost finished but never gets there.
I need to be able to:
check and send mail
serve web site
ssh/WinSCP
port 9999 needed as well as 8080
run DNS
Does that rules set look right?
