So im searching for quality free control panels like plesk.
I found webmin but its only for system not for a website.
does anyone have any suggestions on selecting a control panel? ive seen some products around $300 that appear to be just enough for what i need.
how long is the typical setup time for a control panel?
Xen control panel because I just got a server so I can try out using Xen instead of OpenVZ. Most of the control panel's that I've seen only support OpenVZ at this time. Would anyone be able to suggest a good panel that I could try out or look at?
I know HyperVM is one but can it be trusted as of now? I know that they have people working on it and there are no major hacks right now (at least not yet) but would it be suggested to use it?
I am currently using four different web hosts for different projects. All of them offer a web control panel, which is handy. However, I was noticing today that none of them use https to access/use the control panel.

View 10 Replies View RelatedThere's a bit of a project which I am going to be launching hopefully within about a month or so. Its going to be fairly server intensive, and as I don't know what the outcome will be, I wish to host it myself on a few spare machines I have for the time-being.
Now, the issue at this stage is installing all the necessary webserver software and controling it from one page, like a control panel.
I don't mind looking into control panels such as Plesk or any others, but would these automatically install all the software that is needed by the CP - such as Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl etc?
I'd appreciate if anyone could give me some guidance as far as control panels and web server software is concerned.
Windows VPS control panels like HyperVM?
Are there any available?
-Do any control panels work with lighttpd yet?
-What control panel uses the least system resources. I heard Cpanel is a huge hog.
-I also would like to host maybe a gameserver for friends on my dedicated server, what control panel works the nicest with gameservers to not hinder performance on either end?
-I saw a new Control Panel Called Interworx. Anyone heard good or bad about it?
I just want to provide what it takes to change hosting company or moving from one to another.
Here is 10 steps how you can do it.
Please correct me if I forgot something or I am totally wrong (wing-wong)
1.Identify a web hosting company that provides the features and services most suitable for you.
2.Order an appropriate hosting package from the supplier.
3.Use the Control Panel facilities to manage your email boxes and such like.
4.Begin the transfer of your domain or change the domain records and change email settings if required (your new web hosting supplier
should provide guidance and support to make this as simple as possible).
5.Copy all your files from your previous web hosting service.
6.Upload the files to your new hosted web space.
7.Transfer any databases required for your website.
8.Check that all files have been copied and uploaded successfully.
9.Test functionality and content related to any databases.
10.If you have not done so already, cancel your previous hosting service.
By the way I think that the most biggest problem is to know how to get moving from one to another hosting that’s why people always thinks that
they will stick to one hosting company and forget all major problems with that company (downtimes, long servers maintenance and etc.)…
I am trying to analyze cPanel, DirectAdmin and Plesk and will provide all (as much as I can) information regarding how to transfer your website.

I would be glad if you would share some information with me on this forum. Really would be awesome…
Anyway I think it would be great idea to have all information together collected.
I've started looking into KVM to possibly to run alongside or even to end up replacing our current Xen infrastructure. The fact that it's built into the mainstream linux kernel is very appealing.
Are there any Control panels/basic frontends for this at the moment to allow users to Reboot/Reimage their VM's? At the moment its looking as though we would need something inhouse or custom developed

and could I install more than one without conflict?
I am planning to buy a vps from photonvps (dont know when)and i cant afford the cPanel so in order i will ask them to install a free one. I wanted to ask you what is the best for someone coming from shared hosting. It has to be very simple and easy like cPanel
Also if you can, in your posts include a demo or images of the panel you suggest.
Is there any free control panel good enough for newbies for vps?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm on dedicated server/[Os-fedora, php5 installed] and going to install any free control panel (as i don't have more experience of working via ssh), which can give me chance to do this:
1. setup domain (primary) and add domains [too]
2. setup nameservers to IP
3. setup cronjob
4. add new mysql database/db_user/
... and of course be user friendly. i don't going to have users, give hosting, it's just for me. and don't eat much resources :-)
can u suggest any control panel?
i try to know price for plesk and DA, but unfortunately don't find any information [on theis sites] how much they are ?
DA is my favorite panel, but as told my hoster their price is increased, that's why is search any free panel
I have a client who runs a non-profit organization that puts computer kiosks (running Windows XP) in public areas where low-income people can use them for free. They take old computers, put them back together, and then install them into local grocery stores, gas stations, etc.. where people can use them for free.
This is non-profit work, so their budget is pretty much spent on hardware and upkeep of the computers. (ie: internet connections, Windows licenses, etc.)
They have about 3 dozen computers now, and managing them is becoming more and more time consuming and difficult so they have asked if I can make some suggestions to make things more efficient (easier).
All the computers are built with a hidden partition which contains a drive image. If the computer gets too "screwy", then they can simply re-image the machine and "restart". However, this requires a trip to the local computer, which takes a lot of time, and all of this is done by volunteers...)
One idea I had was to use "remote control" software so the volunteers doing the work don't have to actually go and physically see the computer when debugging a problem, updating software, reimaging the drive, or whatever.
A typical problem might be that the store owner where the machine is deployed will call and say, "It's not working any more". So now a volunteer must go and visit the computer to see what's wrong... but with remote control software they could simply login remotely, fix whatever is the problem, or if needed start the drive re-image.. without ever needing to visit the computer. (Save time!)
So... I've done quite a bit of research on remote control software, and there seems to be lots of "for pay" options. However, the organization just does not have the budget to pay for remote control on a few dozen computers. (Also, they are expecting to roll this out in multiple cities soon, so the solution must be scalable, and paying per computer just isn't realistic given their budget.)
I found the "VNC" remote control software, and that seems to be perfect. It's free, and seems to work well.
However, there are no less then 10 different "flavors" of VNC available, so I'm hoping perhaps a few people here might be able to recommend which one is the best solution. tightVNC, ultraVNC, miniVNC, there are even a few pay (one time small fee) projects.
I have no idea which one is best for them, and I just don't have time myself to investigate and test this all out to make an informed decision.
I'm hoping you can help me narrow down the many choices to either one or two options.
Here's what it needs to do:
- Needs to be "always on" so that the remote control software works immediately after the computer boots. (ie: Even if nobody logs in, remote user should still be able to see the screen and do a login.)
- Be impossible for computer users to remove.
- Be able to take control of the machine without anyone being physically present to click "ok" prompts or accept incoming connection, etc.
- Work with remote machines that are in a LAN with an unknown IP. (Some of the computers are plugged into an existing LAN so that they can use the existing internet connectivity.) In this case, the remote machine does not have a public IP, and the current IP might change after each reboot. The remote control software must be able to "see" the local machine, even if the IP changes, etc... (Maybe some software that runs on the remote machine that "sends" its IP or updates a hostname to an intermediary server every few minutes?
- Allow file transfers between remote machine and controlling machine.
I'm selling dedicated servers. The customers have full conrtol on their servers. I need any tools or software to control their bandwidth, monitor the server and also manage it.

Anyone maybe has experience before on this? i searched whole forum and found that the datacenter who offer it and with cheap price is fdcservers, and just found leaseweb also not bad.
is there any good and bad review on those datacenters? or maybe could suggest other datacenter?

I am looking for webhosts providing free dedicated (not shared) SSL certificates alongwith dedicated IP.
Currently I found only dotable.com and other companies in the UK2 group providing such a package. Is there any other good webhost providing free SSL certificates.
My budget is maximum $10 per month.
Only CPanel hosts are preferred and access to WHM would be a definite plus though not mandatory.
i just want to know hosting company any hosting company can offer free dedicated IP?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am planning on moving to a dedicated server from my current shared host. In my cpanel i have the options:
Generate/Download a Full Backup
Download a home directory Backup
Download a MySQL DB Backup
Download Alias/Filter Backup
I suppose a "Full Backup" would be ideal. But are these backup files only restorable by cpanel, or can I use them to successfully migrate my entire site to the dedicated server? It's running Debian with no control panel. I could install a free one if necessary.
Where does everyone get rack blanks/filler panels from? I'm getting a new rack and will need a bunch of filler panels, but don't want to pay way too much for them. I'm interested in 1U, 2U, and 4U fillers for now.

sql server necessary!
Current server has 4 GB ram, all buffered by linux.
Code:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 4054 3917 137 0 99 2139
-/+ buffers/cache: 1678 2375
Swap: 4094 0 4094
The buffer has 2375 MB of free ram. However this is a heavy mysql server. I want the empty ram be used by mysql so it becomes faster.
We are currently moving to a 8GB ram server, and the free ram will be around 7 GB if we use the exact same configuration. I want the free ram to be 1 GB at most, why pay for 8 GB ram if I'm going to use a fraction of it?
What optimizations should I attempt?
I know about harddisk I/O bottlenecks, I have two SATA drives in the system, and a SAS drive dedicated to mysql, that's all we can afford currently.
All mysql databases are for SMF forums, and currently using MyISAM tables. Switching to another storage engine is a possibility, if it won't create problems in restarts and hot backups.
I run a web design business in South Florida. I currently have an account at ThePlanet to allow me to provide web hosting services to my customers... this is what happened last night.
I received a phone call from an old customer asking me if I was considering changing my computer, i said "well, maybe". My customer then asked me to go an pickup a present. The present was a DELL PowerEdge 2950 server with 6 SCSI (SAS) hard drives 133 gigs each, 2 64-bit Intel-Xeon Quad-Core processors, 4 Gigs FBD RAM, server include an Integrated Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0 management controller (with SMASH Command Line Protocol), plus an optional DRAC 5 remote management card with continuous video and Active Directory integration for robust remote server management, Red Hat Enterprise edition with 3 years of support, mounting rack, wheels and cables.
What a present huhh? OK, I'm really excited cause I know this is a top of the line server but i also know that this isn't that easy. I guess if i plug the server to the Internet it will load the IPMI management Controller and try to connect to DELL to activate the product registration or something. My customer said that he was paying a favor he owed me and that the server was too much for him. He got it on an erroneous delivery along with a bunch of boxes and he wanted me to have it since he doesn't know what to do with it. This is not like he did something wrong, he actually asked the delivery guy and his answer was to wait two weeks to see if someone claims it... after the two weeks he said that the package was already paid up to that point by the insurance and if nobody has claimed it means that the package was his possession.
Since i manage remotely my host through a control panel i don't have enough experience to build the infrastructure to provide the connection, so here are my questions...
I guess (i don't know you can correct me) that all software and licenses are pretty much unusable, right?
I cannot even think in keeping the Redhat, right?
What else should I need besides the broadband connection in order to run it at home?... i mean router type-brand-specs, firewall type-brands-specs, etc.
Do you know of any good-cheap-quality High speed connection that i can use on south Florida to provide connection to the server?
