My question is, what is a good free server monitoring tool that is external. By that I mean software I install on my computer and I can view from my server from my pc. I hope that makes sense it does to me.

as far as i know cacti is the only script that can provide logs of the bandwidth consuming per month. I need to know how much bandwidth my server consumeto avoid overage fees.
But cacti got php function that is reuired to be enabledand its pontentional dangerou to renable some php functions, so i prefer script that is more cgi or any safer script
software that monitoring an web site such as: I add an url and every 5 minutes he access the site if http server is down he send email notifications.

I use Pingdom "Pro" (or whatever the paid version is to be branded as), and I think it is fantastic. It is yet to let us down or misinform us. It'll be interesting to see whether we see quality dilution from the inevitable rush of freebie accounts.
I'm trying to write an article about webhosting. I've completed most of the article but there are some points I still can't figure out.
a) I'm actually confused about this: is limiting of cpu usage the same as limiting cpu cycles or even cpu throttling? I see these terms mentioned everywhere but they're all quite confusing.

I did a free -m in my server and saw that i only have 30MB of free RAM space. Is this good enough?

i have just upgrade to 2GB of RAM and my site is an active flash and video site. (more than 4000unique per day)
I heard a lot about 110mb and registered with them.My experience was very bad.I even paid for upgrades,but the uptime was very bad.Most of the time my site was down.

I was looking at some of the pricing on some of the panels out there and their pricing models. Direct Admin seems to be the cheapest with 9 dollars a month (if you qualify that is.) Is that pretty much as low as it will get? I would think there might be some that are cheaper then that depending on the bulk size and others.
I have developed a small application that I want to put somewhere online so that people can download it and use it for free. I'm not much into free hosting so maybe some of you could recommend a good solution. This will be a 2-3 MB download but I don't think there will be any huge traffic. I know sourceforge.net offers hosting for open source software but I don't know yet if I want to make it open source. Preferrably, I would like a web host with a decent likelihood that my address will not change, no overintrusive ads and somewhat reliable. Or perhaps there are dedicated sites for hosting free programs that would better suit my needs?

Which free server admin tool do you prefer? As far as I can tell Webmin and DirectAdmin are the major players (correct me if I am wrong). I am the only one with access, so their is no need for other accounts or hosting sites from others.

On the new system we are looking to add Plesk12 to give users easier management of their own websites.I am about to install the trail version of Plesk12 WebHOST.I have the following questions:
1. Can we use the plesk migration tool to move the websites from the old IIS6 to the new IIS8.5 server?
2. If not, am I right to think we would migrate from IIS6 to IIS8.5 manually and then import these websites into Plesk12 from the new server?
3. Can I migrate the existing websites piecemeal over onto the new server and into the Plesk control panel at the same time as creating brand new websites under the control panel?
4. Once Plesk is installed on the new IIS server is there a KB article on how to add all these existing websites to Plesk - I could not find one.
5. Is the local windows administrator account used for the install used to run any services?
Does anyone know any good system for monitoring if a server is online?
