Change Domain To Another Ip Address On My Server
i have a dedicated server with 5 usable IP's in range xxx.242 to xxx.246
xx.xxx.120.242 <-- main shared IP
xx.xxx.120.243
xx.xxx.120.244 <-- in use by my nameservers
xx.xxx.120.245 <-- in use by my nameservers
xx.xxx.120.246
When i select in WHM "Change Site's IP Address " and the account i want to change it shows me a drop down menu with the ip's of the nameservers AND the
xx.xxx.120.243
If i select that one the domain in the account shows the apache default page only inmediately.
I don't know why the xx.xxx.120.246 ip doesn't show or why the nameserver ip's appear because they are in use.
Do i need to wait for propagation or is this an error?

Maybe dissolving a partnership or renaming their company... so a new domain name has been registered and a new website created. 2 Issues: #1 Using .htaccess 301 redirect We used the following command line in their old website's htaccess file Redirect 301 / [url] The goal was to get people try to visit any page of their old website (i.e. OldWebsite.com/contact.html) redirected to their new website (i.e. NewWebsite.com/contact.html). Isn't that supposed to change the address bar's URL, too? For some reason, I visit their old site and I seem to be redirected to their new website but the address bar still has their old domain name? Something is going on??? #2 Having their new company name for 2 years now. People can enter her new company name in Google, MSN or Yahoo. Her new company name appears in the search results but has the old domain name associated with it. We are trying to get rid of any reference to that old domain name? I have two servers running cPanel/WHM, with BIND and Exim. I have my main domain running on one server (gizmo.mywebhost.net) and wish to host a seperate helpdesk on a subdomain support.mydomain.com (on a second server, stripe.mywebhost.net). The subdomain mail account test@support.mydomain.com works fine with hotmail, i can send and reveive between my stripe.mywebhost.net server and hotmail without any issue. My server has one IP address assigned to it and i use Webmin with Virtualmin to manage domains. When you put my IP into a browser like [url]however, it points to my websites public_html folder at /home/username/public_html, which was the first domain i set up. Change IP Address DHCP To Static Using Xen VPS
I'm using XEN to setup my VPS. The installation have no problem for the first two server. On the 3rd server, I install using DHCP IP and it's ok.The problem is when I change the DHCP IP to static IP . Using Centos 5.2, I'm using vi to edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and restart the network service network restart, the IP change, but outside or other static IP VPS network can't ping to this server. I've tried to change the /etc/xen/the-host-config to include the IP . the results is still the same. Is there some script or way I can use to bridge this new 3rd server to the Xen host ant other network? * I've restart the Xen server.

I changed my sites IP address via cpanel, but now it doesn't show up in a web broswer, I check out cpanel's website for information about this issue, and they posted this: "It may take up to 48 hours for DNS servers to register the change and the site may not be associated with the new IP address during that time period." is that true? change the sites IP address will take 48 hours to show up? I figured since it was all local IP stuff, it'll be a instant change and working instantly. since the name servers are all the same, ect. anyone shed some light. I just wanted to know if I should give it a day to start working? or as of right now, I feel like I need to fix a cpanel error... but if its true, then everything is ok

I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this, or if it's something easy that I'm overlooking. I am on a VPS service (CentOS Linux) and I want my php mail function emails to send from a specified address. I've already manipulated the headers, so the emails do appear to come from the specified addres, but on mobile devices it comes up as nobody@server1.mydomain.com format. I would like this to read something like no-reply@mydomain.com know which configuration files can change this default address?

Host will only update DNS in batches, takes several hours for a DNS change, is that normal? Well today my mail stopped working and it turns out the A record for mail was deleted. How it got deleted I don't know. I called my host and after speaking to 2 techs, they said that have added my request to a batch, and that would update in a few hours. I said to him, batch? What can't you do it instantly? He said thats not the way their DNS works and any DNS change would affect thousands of other sites they are hosting. Does anyone know what kind of dns system these people could possibly have where they can not reload a single zone? And by affected, I think he means the sites will go down for a minute or so, while it relaods every zone. Is this really the case, or are these people just idiots?

Sending Email To Another Server When The Email Address Domain Is On This Server
I currently have a domain on Server 1 (Linux, Apache, Ubuntu, Matrix control panel). This server does not have any spam filter, so I have moved all the email accounts to Server 2 (Linux, Apache, Fedora Core, Plesk) which does have a brilliant spam filter; and have changed the DNS record for mail.domain.com to the IP address for Server 2. Emails are being successfully received on Server 2. On Server 1, when an email is sent through SMTP to an address at that domain, it does not send it to Server 2, it gets delivered to the hosting account for the domain on Server 1. So what I am guessing is happening is that Server 1 detects the domain has an account on the server, and instead of looking up the DNS info for that domain, just assumes it is on Server 1. What I need to do, is force Server 1 to send email for that domain to Server 2. Is this possible, and if so, how can it be achieved? If more info about the server is required for a solution please let me know and I'll provide what I can.

IP Address Vs. Domain Name
I'm moving from shared to dedicated hosting. I've added an account and used ftp and phpmyadmin to copy over a WordPress installation. I would like to test this installation before re-directing the name servers, but I'm having no luck. If I browse to 12.34.567.890/whm, I get the Web Host Manager. If I browse to 12.34.567.890, I get the "Great Success! Apache is working on your cPanel and WHM server" page. If I browse to /anything_else, (e.g., /wp-admin, /index.php, etc.) I get a 404 message. Is there any way I can test this application (and others) using the IP address, or am I going to have to change the DNS and navigate to mydomain.com?

I have a website and i wanted to change the homepage for it. DDoS The IP Address But Not Domain
I checked on /server-status and it has tons of ClientVHostRequest {serverip } defaultGET / HTTP/1.0 However, the default web page is blank. Now my site has been DDoSed for the last 3 days. Does this mean they are attacking the site from the IP, because I do see many genuine access to the correct Vhost but no body should access the site via the IP. Can Your Hosting Address Be Seen When You Forward A Domain?
For example, if I forward my business domain abcproducts.com to my domain where I have my hosting, myname.com, is it possible for people to see where my business domain is forwarding to. Basically, I am doing a business website, but I don't want anyone to be able to see that it actually is forwarding to a folder on my main myname.com where I have my hosting. I am masking it, so it will only show abcproducts.com, but I am wondering if even the "tech saavy" has tools to figure this out. I just don't want anyone to be able to see this. Like, I know how sites like DNSreport.com show all kinds of stuff on the domain. Is there something like this that people can use to see if domains forward?

Correct Way To Change A Site's Domain Name
I'm working on a young site that will be changing its focus and its domain name to reflect the new focus. What is the correct way to change the domain name? In the past, I've simply created a new site in WHM/cPanel under the new domain name and copied the old site (and database) over, which was a great deal of work. Is there another way to do it that is less time consuming - without having to copy files? Are you not able to just change the domain name setting in WHM without having to copy the entire site over to a new directory on the server?

New Domain - Can't Change DNS, Can't Use Nameservers,
I'm stuck. First let me explain how my current sites are setup. I have all of my personal domains through GoDaddy at the moment. I set each domain to point to GoDaddys default hosting nameservers. Then I create DNS A Records for my domain pointing to the IP of my webserver. That works. I recently purchased a domain name from a backordering service. This domain is with a different registrar. They do not offer any kind of managed DNS and will not create A records for me. My server is not setup as a nameserver so I can't do either. I also can't transfer the domain over to GoDaddy because of ICANNs two month rule. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Is there a service out there where I can point to their nameservers and they will send traffic to my servers IP? I'm not as sharp on this topic as I probably should be

How Do I Redirect Visitors, Who Type In My IP Address, To My Domain
I have what seems to be a simple redirect question. I have a dedicated server and a few static IP addresses, but I want to make it so if someone were to type in my IP address in their browser, Apache will redirect them to the domain name. (Typing in [url] What happens now is that if you were to type in my server's IP address, it will show you the FIRST VirtualHost container that's listed in httpd.conf. This is not so bad since I've placed my main company site at the start of the list, but I'd rather redirect the IP into the domain name I use. I read somewhere that you can place Mod RewriteRules directly in the VirtualHost container rather than using .htaccess, but the few "rules" that I tried didn't seem to do anything. And yes, I restarted Apache each time I edited httpd.conf. Is there an easy way to do this? ALSO, is there a way to redirect the name server address too? If you type in [url]into the browser, it acts the same way. I would ultimately like to redirect both the nameservers and the IP address(es) to the domain name.

Primary Domain Change For WHM Account
I have a hostee who as part of an out-of-court settlement, needs to change the primary domain they host on. The domain they're switching to is already a parked domain on their account. At first blush, it seems like it would be pretty easy, but now I'm concerned about their email. Both of the principals of the company use Horde extensively for webmail, and as such I have files on the server for their email accounts. What I was thinking about doing is this: 1. Stop parking the "new" domain on the account. 2. Change the account from using the "old" domain in WHM to the "new" domain by modifying the account in WHM. 3. Forwarding email sent to user@old.domain to user@new.domain, in CPanel. 4. Assorted changes on website to account for the new domain - published email addresses, new SSL cert, things like that. My concern is in how to move the mail files, currently set up to be for user@old.domain, to be readable by Horde as user@new.domain, so it's seamless to the users. We will be keeping the old domain under our control, but not using it to point to the site any more; I just don't want to have to tell them "OK, to get your old email, you have to check this address, and to get new email, you have to check this one." Would my plan above actually accomplish that? Is there a better way within a WHM/CPanel framework to accomplish what I need without losing email or access to it? What am I missing?

I want to redirect a website to a particular URL so that the address bar shows the same URL and not the destination URL. I know it is possible via URL masking, however, I want it in such a way that whenever somebody clicks on any link in the website, the address bar should still show the original URL. I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names. I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries. Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel, ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40 ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41 But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries? Is it really required?

Once i force kill the process, I am able to restart httpd properly. Now it is ok if this just occurs once in a while, but this problem keeps repeating itself almost everyday at 4am server time (cron time?). What can I do to permanently fix this?

Domain Parking - Wildcard Domain Name Server (DNS)?
We have a lot of unused domains that we'd like to setup domain parking for. To keep it simple, we'd like to just change the namesevers to ns1.domainparking.com and ns2.domainparking.com (not real nameservers!) and the domains would then automatically show a simple web page. i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly.. Sub Address On A Different Server
I have a site on a windows 2003 server, the site is an ASP.Net site and is working prefectly. So say that the website is called www.mywebsite.com. This site also has a forum which uses vbulletin (php & mysql) and the forums are available at www.mywebsite.com/forums. Currently the php and mysql are also running on the windows 2003 server. But I want to move all of my php sites off this server and onto a seperate linux box that is set up and ready to go. Reassign An IP Address To A New Server
I don't know enough about networking so I'm going to ask WHT community on this. I have a server with several sites. One of the site uses static IP and now it outgrows the server. I need it to be on a new dedicated server but retain the same IP. How easy is it to add a new server and move/reassign the IP address to the new server? What Changes Needed Once The Server Ip Address Changes
i run a linux server with the planet it comes with ensim installed. as some of you probabley heard about the fire at the planet and they offered to move my server to another facility but they have to change the server ip address which i agreed to it the server is back online but i'm unable to acces any websites i asked them to point all domains to the new ip address but they are really busy and i assume it would take a day or 2 when i login to ensim and list all sites i still see the old ip address listed under each domain, do i need to change that if so how? will everything work once the they modify dns records?
