Change Main Server IP Address
is there any simple write up or method to change the main server IP in WHM/Cpanel without screwing anything up? I have some new better IPs I wish to use for the servers base IP and accounts but I'm not sure what exactly needs to be changed to make the transfer without breaking anything.

How Do I Setup A New Ip Address As My Server's Main Ip Address
I just bought a new ip address and want to setup this new ip as my server's main ip, making the 'existing main ip' as the secondary ip. Which means, this new ip will be the server's default ip address for all services, including when connecting to other server. I'm using CentOs 4.5 and swsoft's panels: HSPcomplete & Virtuozzo Power Panel, and Webmin.

Change Domain To Another Ip Address On My Server
i have a dedicated server with 5 usable IP's in range xxx.242 to xxx.246 xx.xxx.120.242 <-- main shared IP xx.xxx.120.243 xx.xxx.120.244 <-- in use by my nameservers xx.xxx.120.245 <-- in use by my nameservers xx.xxx.120.246 When i select in WHM "Change Site's IP Address " and the account i want to change it shows me a drop down menu with the ip's of the nameservers AND the xx.xxx.120.243 If i select that one the domain in the account shows the apache default page only inmediately. I don't know why the xx.xxx.120.246 ip doesn't show or why the nameserver ip's appear because they are in use. Do i need to wait for propagation or is this an error?

Change Public_html For IP Address
My server has one IP address assigned to it and i use Webmin with Virtualmin to manage domains. When you put my IP into a browser like [url]however, it points to my websites public_html folder at /home/username/public_html, which was the first domain i set up. I would like to change it so that the IP points to its own folder: /var/www/html when entered into a browser.. how do i do this?

I am running plesk 9.2. I need to move one domain from the shared IP to dedicated IP. How do I do that? My server vendor has already allocated the IP addresses to me and I can see the unused IPs in the Ip address pool. Change IP Address DHCP To Static Using Xen VPS
I'm using XEN to setup my VPS. The installation have no problem for the first two server. On the 3rd server, I install using DHCP IP and it's ok.The problem is when I change the DHCP IP to static IP . Using Centos 5.2, I'm using vi to edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and restart the network service network restart, the IP change, but outside or other static IP VPS network can't ping to this server. I've tried to change the /etc/xen/the-host-config to include the IP . the results is still the same. Is there some script or way I can use to bridge this new 3rd server to the Xen host ant other network? * I've restart the Xen server.

Site IP Address Change Takes 48 Hours To Work
I changed my sites IP address via cpanel, but now it doesn't show up in a web broswer, I check out cpanel's website for information about this issue, and they posted this: "It may take up to 48 hours for DNS servers to register the change and the site may not be associated with the new IP address during that time period." is that true? change the sites IP address will take 48 hours to show up? I figured since it was all local IP stuff, it'll be a instant change and working instantly. since the name servers are all the same, ect. anyone shed some light. I just wanted to know if I should give it a day to start working? or as of right now, I feel like I need to fix a cpanel error... but if its true, then everything is ok

When I load a new account into WHM a pre-figured email address is entered into the DNS Zone automatically using the DNS Template field %rpemail% Can you tell me where the email address %rpemail% can be found and how to change it. Also can I change %rpemail% to something else in that field so that the email address it calls up is perhaps the contact address for root or similar?

Change Default Sender Address Using Php Mail() / Sendmail
I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this, or if it's something easy that I'm overlooking. I am on a VPS service (CentOS Linux) and I want my php mail function emails to send from a specified address. I've already manipulated the headers, so the emails do appear to come from the specified addres, but on mobile devices it comes up as nobody@server1.mydomain.com format. I would like this to read something like no-reply@mydomain.com know which configuration files can change this default address?

Security Of Main Server
If I understand correctly, on the main physical server, we cannot install any firewall, so customers in VPS can open any port on their VPS. So, I am wondering about the security of the main server? What if someone can *hack* into the main server, and delete all VPS there? Is there any case like that before?

Moving Main Domain To Another Server
I have my main domain (domain.com) and it is where all my sites and customer sites are pointed to (ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com). I just purchased a VPS and have made (domain.com) my main domain as I want it to be because of keeping the nameservers the same for my clients. My vision is this, I will transfer all the sites from my old cPanel account to my new DirectAdmin account. I have setup a time to let my clients know not to update any content on their sites. At that time I will then download the sites from the cPanel account to the DA account. I will then move my main domain (domain.com) over as well and then change the name server registries at namecheap. I understand some things can get lost in this switch, but ALL clients are aware of this and understand. They will still have access to the old server via the IP address to check for misdirected mail. Is this the simplest way to get this done? Is there a better way, with using the main domain?

LXadmin Main Server - Best Way To Get My Secondary DNS Updated
Just moved to a lxadmin based system from my current plesk system and I have a dilema Configuration Server 1: Main Web/CP/Primary DNS/Mail/etc Server 2: Secondary DNS/Backup Mail forwarding With Plesk I generated a transfer file from named.conf (plesk runs bind/named for dns) sent that over to server 2 a couple of times a day. Problem is I've converted lxadmin to run with bind instead and named.conf only contains an include to lxadmin.named.conf and this is empty. So where does lxadmin put its conf files for named? I'm not restricted to using named, I'd use djbdns if there was an equally simple way of transferring the zones across to server 2

Apache Overloading Due To Requests To My Main Domain Name Server (DNS) Name
I currently have a web VPS hosted with FDCServers.net and after 5 days of switching to it i am getting massive HTTP requests. When i login to WHM and hit apache status i have many requests per second by multiple IP's that are going to pages that simple don't exist. Currently my hostname for the server is set at web-01.optical-hosting.com which is what the requests are being sent to. I am also having a DNS issue because when i put http://web-01.optical-hosting.com in the web browser it displays the first account's site under "list accounts" in cpanel. Can someone please help me fix both of these issue's? i will post an apache log in a second post as it is long. Also, these are from overseas. please someone help me with this i have Aim and Msn.

URL Redirection Without Changing The Address In The Address Bar
I want to redirect a website to a particular URL so that the address bar shows the same URL and not the destination URL. I know it is possible via URL masking, however, I want it in such a way that whenever somebody clicks on any link in the website, the address bar should still show the original URL. To put it in simple words, Suppose I want to redirect [url] to [url]. Now if there is a link named contact/index.htm and somebody clicks on it the address bar should display [url]and not redirect to [url] How can it be possible using URL Rewrite method in .htaccess file?

Has anyone helped clients transition from one domain to another? Maybe dissolving a partnership or renaming their company... so a new domain name has been registered and a new website created. 2 Issues: #1 Using .htaccess 301 redirect We used the following command line in their old website's htaccess file Redirect 301 / [url] The goal was to get people try to visit any page of their old website (i.e. OldWebsite.com/contact.html) redirected to their new website (i.e. NewWebsite.com/contact.html). Isn't that supposed to change the address bar's URL, too? For some reason, I visit their old site and I seem to be redirected to their new website but the address bar still has their old domain name? Something is going on??? #2 Having their new company name for 2 years now. People can enter her new company name in Google, MSN or Yahoo. Her new company name appears in the search results but has the old domain name associated with it. We are trying to get rid of any reference to that old domain name? What's the easiest way to do this? So what people see in search engines is: New Company Short Meta Description www.OldDomain.com What steps did I miss in this transition? What steps do I have to take on their old website/old web server to control it's appearance on search engines and make sure people get to the new website?

The problem usually goes like this: - I can't access the webserver - I'll try to restart httpd, and I'll get Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:443 To fix this, I run [root@www1 ~]# lsof -i tcp:443 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME perl 11307 apache 4u IPv6 476943447 TCP *:https (LISTEN) There is always leftover process that is causing the restart to fail. Once i force kill the process, I am able to restart httpd properly. Now it is ok if this just occurs once in a while, but this problem keeps repeating itself almost everyday at 4am server time (cron time?). What can I do to permanently fix this?

Sub Address On A Different Server
I have a site on a windows 2003 server, the site is an ASP.Net site and is working prefectly. So say that the website is called www.mywebsite.com. This site also has a forum which uses vbulletin (php & mysql) and the forums are available at www.mywebsite.com/forums. Currently the php and mysql are also running on the windows 2003 server. But I want to move all of my php sites off this server and onto a seperate linux box that is set up and ready to go. So my question is even though www.mywebsite.com points to the windows server, is there any way I can set up DNS so that www.mywebsite.com/forums points to a completely different linux server?

VPS- With Main Domain Name
I know from past experiences, a VPS is not suppose to be setup on a sub domain for the main domain name account. My VPS was setup on a sub domain which is not allowing my domain name to resolve the with the DNS server. How to fix this issue? I have been speaking with support all day, and we have fixed a few minor issues but my major concern is yet to be fixed and I'm still sending support tickets ( and they are working on it ) but it's been an all day afair...any sugestions from the peanut gallery?

Reassign An IP Address To A New Server
I don't know enough about networking so I'm going to ask WHT community on this. I have a server with several sites. One of the site uses static IP and now it outgrows the server. I need it to be on a new dedicated server but retain the same IP. How easy is it to add a new server and move/reassign the IP address to the new server? My host said it's impossible due to a networking issue. Is it really a technical issue or simply a policy?

What Changes Needed Once The Server Ip Address Changes
i run a linux server with the planet it comes with ensim installed. as some of you probabley heard about the fire at the planet and they offered to move my server to another facility but they have to change the server ip address which i agreed to it the server is back online but i'm unable to acces any websites i asked them to point all domains to the new ip address but they are really busy and i assume it would take a day or 2 when i login to ensim and list all sites i still see the old ip address listed under each domain, do i need to change that if so how? will everything work once the they modify dns records?

Main Site Page Display
About the 28th September the host that I was with decided to move servers and did not inform me of this. They tried moving my site and after 18 hours of being offline decided not move my site. It came back offline, only the main page displayed but nothing else works, if you click on anything it goes to 404 page error. Only problem is, the page is displaying data up to 23rd September. I have a blog and a forum connected and both seem to have lost all the data from the 23rd to 28th September. I have since moved host since the previous host not only did not inform me that they were moving, they didnt even bother taking a backup. I have been with my new host for over a week now so the propogation is definitely complete. Now the problem is whenever I open my blog, it keeps pointing to 23rd September (I have added a lot of posts since then). If I refresh the page, then it will show the latest posts. This is not a problem with the forum though, it works fine.

Subdomain To Main Domain Moving
I have a domain name as per my sig. I am also creating a subdomain totally in contrast with that site below. My primary domain has one page on it so i would like to: a) delete the one page on my primary domain b) Make the contents of my subdomain my primary domain. e.g my domain is www.info-peep.com, my sub will be example.info-peep.com........i would like to make example.info-peep.com : www.info-peep.com......that make sense, as really the sub will be my main site. Basically wanting to transfer the contents of my sub to my primary. So when people click info-peep.com, it will be the sub's site. Another thing to note is that i am using RVsitebuilder (WYSIWYG) that my web host provides. Also BEAR IN MIND the WYSIWYG editor does not allow me to move pages (sucks) or to copy the page contents.

I have a reseller package with HostGator.com , and I had one of my personal sites on it. The site was growing too fast, and taking up too much of my reseller package, so i bought another normal hosting package from hostgator. They did a complete site copy onto the new server (same account name for site, just on a different one of their servers) Old: (URL address blocked: See forum rules)~midnight/ New: (URL address blocked: See forum rules)~midnight/ I did this swap over 7 days ago. It was successful, everything worked, did my DNS swap and i thought that was it. Now for the confusing part. when i type in my domain ((URL address blocked: See forum rules)) it shows up perfect, as it should, as it does with 75% of my members BUT For the other 25%, its showing up as the old server. I have been onto my domain supplier, and they said all is fine at their end, they are seeing the site as they should, have been onto hostgator, and it works for them, they cant understand what it can be. Not only this, but people who can get on, might still get the old servers at times. People who cant get on, can get on from different computers in different houses (hope that makes sense) I was about to change the site back to my reseller package and scrap the new hosting, but said i would seek advice from other webmasters first. Has anybody ever experienced this before? How is it solved? What can i do?

Cpanel Main Domain Not Allowing Subdomains
When trying to make a subdomain on my main cpanel domain, through cpanel, it acts like it is making it, and adds the dns entry, but it does not work. All other domains work fine. I submitted a ticket to buycpanel, they asked for the login information this morning, and have not heard back from them. This has happened every since they installed cpanel. I am hoping its something simple that one of you knowledgeable people may know how to fix.
