my datacenter says that they have not had power failures(lol yeh right) but i cant seem to figure out why my server seems to be rebooting randomly. so far its happened early 3-5am my times today and yesterday, just its happened 4x more times this morning.
im not sure if cpanel is sending me bind start failures because its not set to auto start up on reboot or if it might be related... but the server seems fine.
Ive been having this issue on a box im messing around with. I run custom services that launch an exe file. Everything runs fine while the server is running. But on reboot random custom services fail. Terminal services also fails to start.
The number of services that need launched on restart seems to be random each time. Sometimes services start to fail, at around 70+ being setup. Other times you don't see it failing until 100+ services needs started on reboot.
The server load with all services running is 2-5% and physical memory is about 200 megs of 1gig, paged, is about 300-400 megs used.
It is normally 3-4 custom services that fail on reboot. The ones that fail have the following error in event viewer.
Description: Subprocess monitoring failed due to subprocess is no longer active. The subprocess is probably dead. Restarting the process. Error detail: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.
It will keep getting this error over and over again. However, if i stop all custom services and then start them, everything launches fine.
When this happens on reboot Terminal services also fails to start. It will not start, until I stop all the custom services. At which point it allows me to start TS without any errors.
Event Type:Error Event Source:Service Control Manager Event Category:None Event ID:7023 Date:5/10/2007 Time:7:02:10 AM User:N/A Computer:XXXXXXX Description:
The Terminal Services service terminated with the following error:
A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

What I am trying to accomplish is a way to automatically launch these EXE files, and have something that restarts them if they crash or fail. I haven't been able to find a specific reason this is happening or how to fix it. So I am open to any other suggestions on how to do this.
Recently upgraded to Plesk 11.5 & upgraded to the latest CentOS kernel. Whenever I reboot the server DNS services do not work, can't view any websites hosted on the server etc.
Once I either restart BIND through Plesk Panel or
Code: # service named restart
Everything works perfectly.
My var/log/boot.log shows named started [OK]
When I run
Code: # service named status
Immediately after reboot everything looks normal, despite not resolving DNS until restarted.
I ran
Code: # ceckconfig --list
And both httpd & named services are displaying all 'off' on every runlevel. But, obviously named service is starting automatically, maybe by psa?
Should httpd & named be listed as on, is this the problem?
I am trying to setup a pass through on our apache proxy server, typically this is not any trouble but our developers have started using a product call DEV EXPRESS and I cannot figure out how to get my pass through to work. Here's what my pass through looks like
ProxyPass /tmsdev http://tmsdev.dot.missouri/ ProxyPassReverse /tmsdev http://tmsdev.dot.missouri/ The initial url is http://tmsdev.dot.missouri/RealEstate/AAH/LitterPickup.aspx
I am getting 404 errors on everything that has /RealEstate/DXR.axd......... The DXR.axd is something from DEVEXPRESS here's the error I'm getting.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <html><head> <title>404 Not Found</title> </head><body> <h1>Not Found</h1> <p>The requested URL /RealEstate/DXR.axd was not found on this server.</p> <hr /> <address>IBM_HTTP_Server/6.0.2.35 Apache/2.0.47 (Win32) Server at ghweb04 Port 80</address> </body></html>
I had to reboot my server and about 20 minutes later I tried to access the web site but the page was not found... I am able to login to SSH. However, I am not familiar with *nix or the workings of CPanel... What should I do to get the sites back online?
I ordered a leaseweb express server 4 box with windows server 2003 and have been running it, installed some software etc which worked out fine.
Anyways, I wanted to disable tcp/ip filtering which I did and afterwards it prompted me that I would have to reboot the server for the changes to take place, I clicked ok and it rebooted. Now I just can't connect with remote desktop, I tried everything.
I'm guessing it either shut down or didn't reboot properly? I tried sending an email to leaseweb support 2 days ago but still no shadow of any reply..
It says that I can reboot the server using the SSC but when I log in there, I can't really find any reboot option.
i have a dedicated server at theplanet.I dont have a remote reboot option.
a friend of mine said, that all dedicated servers have remote reboot options.he says that since i dont have a remote reboot option,i am probably on a shared server.is that correct.does theplanet have shared or vps offerings in the first place ?
i cannot reboot the server, but i can log in through shell as root type in shutdown - and turn the damn thing off.....
problem I was having which was Windows Small Business Server 2003 would hang on boot up. I never got the time to reinstall the server until now.
I have installed the server and applied all updates. This worked fine until I install the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or 2. When I install SP1 or SP2 on reboot the server loads the Dell splash screen then the monitor LED light goes orange then green then orange and then just hangs with a blank screen.
I can boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the Service Pack and I can then reboot without any problems. I have installed ADAM SP1.
I have a cpanel, centos server that had to be rebooted due to the high load spike. I was unable to ssh in nor enter whm prior to the reboot so my only option was of course to reboot the server.
Now, I'm trying to trace the cause of the spike. RTG graphs show no indication of a ddos attack.
Inside whm, CPU/Memory/MySQL Usage shows no reds nor yellow warnings either except red for gzip (backup process) at 19% CPU. I doubt this is the cause.
This is from /var/log/messages of the logs slightly before and after the reboot.

at getting PDUs for the new facility where we plan to move our servers to. Our cabinet will have 2*20a circuits, so we're thinking of getting 2 APC PDUs (1 per circuit). Some offer remote reboot capability.
Our servers (Dell PowerEdge) have dual power supplies, and I assume the best thing is to plug one power supply into each circuit, so things stay up even if a circuit fails.
So, how would this work if we want to reboot? The servers can run on only one power supply, so does that mean we have to click reboot on the web interface of each PDU at exactly the same time?
I've never worked with PDUs before.. just cheap power strips and a call to the datacenter
When I reboot my centOS 6.5 + Plesk 11.5 server, Nginx doesn't start and every time I need to go to Server > IP Addresses and click Reread IP.Then Plesk says that need to repair one of these ips, I click repair and then Nginx can start. ( I have 3 ips [2 ipv4 and 1 ipv6] )
I have a VPS (ConetOS 4.4, OpenVZ), it all works fine, however on reboot, the resolv.conf gets reset to some nameservers that are no longer in use, How do I change this so after a reboot it uses the nameservers I am using now?
We are facing this weird problem from the past few days. Whenever we reboot the Windows 2003 Service, the server becomes inaccessible from the network or the internet after reboot. It is only after we run the sharedaccess.reg file available from http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/sharedaccess.reg and reboot the server, we can access the server remotely. But the same thing happens after rebooting the server again. We are also not able to start the Windows Firewall service. We get an error while trying to start the Windows Firewall Service. The screenshot of the error message is attached with this post.
Two month ago I installed plesk 11.5 on my server (with centos 6 or 7 I don't remember) Then i added my domain.com by clicking on "Add New Domain" and using the auto dns system configuration. All worked great. During this period, Parallels Plesk was auto updating to 12.x 1 week ago, I restarted my server, and my website was down (I think because DNS problem with 12.x or ip problem or port closed...)
So I formatted my dedicated server, then I reinstall Parallels Plesk 11 (with centos 6) and the website worked great. Then I re-formatted my dedicated server, then I installed Parallels Plesk 12 (with centos 7) and the website did not work.
So I think the problem come from plesk 12
This is how I process to configure my website on plesk 12 :
1. This is a 1&1 domain and an OVH dedicated server.
So I configure DNS like that :
1rst name server : nsXXXXXX.eu 2nd name server : sdns2.ovh.net
2. On plesk, i click on "Add New Domain"
Capture : [URL] ...
3. I wait for DNS propagation but it doesn't work...
I run a DNSReport.com test for my domain name and it failed on "Mail" section with this error message:
HTML Code: ERROR: I could not complete a connection to any of your mailservers!
my-domain.com: Timed out [Last data sent: RCPT TO: ]
If this is a timeout problem, note that the DNS report only waits about 40 seconds for responses, so your mail *may* work fine in this case but you will need to use testing tools specifically designed for such situations to be certain. also on DNSReport.com mail test, got this error message:
HTML Code: my-domain.com. - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [Could not connect: Could not receive data: Operation timed out.]
[Note that if your mailserver takes over 30 seconds to respond, our test will timeout, even though real mailservers will wait longer] what makes my server failed on this test?
Ive been learning alot about BIND and DNS, id like someone to check over what ive learn't to make sure my knowledge is correct.
A Zone:
A zone is basically 'similar' to a sub-domain but the domain google.com would not be a sub-domain, so a zone is not a sub-domain. In the domain google.com 'google' would be a deligated zone from the TLD 'com'. In another example: ny.google.com , 'ny' would be a zone for google's 'new york' department, if they had one.
Hosts:
The host name is usually the most left word in a domain or you can look at it as the leaves on an inverted tree in the DNS System. Examples:
www.google.com = 'www' would be the host mail.sitepoint.com = 'mail' would be the host ny.google.com = 'ny' would NOT be a host because its a 'zone' and does not offer a 'service' like ftp, mail, www ect. would. Unless 'ny' was intended to be a service then it would be a host, but it would have to become a leaf in the inverted tree, so you wouldn't ba able to create any zones from it like 'mail.ny.google.com' ... if that makes sense.
Nameservers:
If i used BIND on my server to manage my Zones and DNS information (which is pretty much standard), that would be my Nameserver. Its job would be to convert human recognizable names into computer recognizable names/numbers/ip.
My nameserver would only have authority over zones that are not deligated. So an example, 'com' deligate 'mydomainname' to me (mydomainname.com) they have no authority over that zone. So if i set up a nameserver on mydomain.com they have no authority over mydomainname or any zone under that.
Domain Namespace
The Domain Namespace was setup to replace the method used by ARPA (later DARPA) in the 60's in an effort to create a database of hosts that were easy to administer and reduced the time and server load on the old skool HOSTS.TXT method.
A domain namespace is a way to identify the different domains. Im not to good at explaining what i mean but basically ill illustrate this example:
google.com and google.net both have the same names, so the namespace in this example would the the TLD's 'net' and 'com' to seperate them.
Go a bit deeper for example:
cd.music.com and cd.disk.com , both have the same TLD and sub-domain's so the namespace here is the first-level domain 'music' and 'disk'.
Sub-Domains Sub-Domains are similar to zones, in a way. A domain name: 'google.com' might have the sub-domain 'video.google.com' which links to the video section of google. 'video' is not a deligated zone from 'google' neither is it a host as such, so its a sub-domain.
Im probably slightly confused on some parts, and im open for comments. I dont fully understand alot of it, but what ive learnt so far took a good day to get my head around. If anythings wrong, id like to know.
I have a Bind DNS server setup and running on windows. Im trying to set up my domain at namecheap to use my name servers but it keeps telling me that the nameserver isint registered.
I have the nameserver set up as ns1.domain.com and i can see that its listening on port 53.
I did a local test on the server and the DNS is working properly.
