My server is being pounded with Yahoo bots, close to 500 or more at a time. They are causing my loads at various times of the day to skyrocket, crashing the mysql server, etc. They have been on my site for about 4 days now and I just dont see why that many bots are needed to crawl a single site for several days.
Is there any way around this without banning their ips? Any way to limit them?
For several months the Yahoo bot had been controlled to one visit per 40 seconds with a robots.txt page. Today it is not working and creating several page impressions per minute.
Has anyone seen any new advice on how to control this pesky creature?
i want to preview a file in my browser but so far it s not possible i am using yahoo sitebuilder 2.5 and when i m trying to previw the website an erro appears and says that i havent save my site in the write place.. when i do that it says that i haven still save my site in the right place,, i spend about a week of work on it... also i cant publish it.. is there anyway to c the html code or do somthn else?
I have this strange problem with smartermail, it can send perfectly to hotmail and gmail but when it tried sending to yahoo accounts, there is always a delay and the email end in the bulk folder.
Such problems does not occur with my qmail or icewarp merak. Any idea how to solve? Have already emailed Yahoo hoping to get a whitelisting of my IP. Besides installing domainkeys any other ways?
Has anyone ever used Yahoo to host their website? I have heard some good and more bad comments about them. I am a rookie at this so my site is going to be pretty basic. How do they rank vs. other hosting companies?
Yahoo has an “easy site creator” tool to make a site with a template like process. Do sites that use these rank as well in search engines as sites built without a template?
If I'm not mistaken we have reverse DNS setup and no blacklist entries. Is there any reason why welcome emails from our custom CP are being filtered directly into the Yahoo SPAM box?
Here's the full headers from my personal email. This is the exact message a client would be sent.

Some of my emails send to the clients who are using Yahoo's email is stored in their " Bulk " folder, so Yahoo is considering my email as spamer althought i'm not. So do you know how can i fix it ? Do i need to contat Yahoo about this matter ?
I am looking for an expert who can help me configure my dedicated server to ensure my email gets delivered to Yahoo.
I have an autoresponder script hosted on the server. The script was previously hosted with another host and I got excellent deliverability to Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail and everyone else.
Unfortunately the volume of mail was too large for that host, so now I have a dedicated server. Since I moved to the dedicated server (two weeks ago), my mail does not get delivered to Yahoo. It doesn't even go into the junk mail folder. It just disappears.
I am very strictt about using confirmed optin for my lists, so it's not a blacklist issue. Right from day one on the new server, my mail did not reach Yahoo. So it must be the way my server is set up.
If there is someone who knows how to resolve this, I am willing to pay you to solve the problem for me. Or, if there is anyone who can give me some advice, that would be much appreciated.
I have noticed that Yahoo is refusing emails coming from the IP of my server. I have written them and I got this email, has this happened to you too? Any recommendations? ...
I have a problem with Yahoo defering my email from servers for weeks!
I've submit to [url]
from
[url]
MANY TIMES! this is getting me frustrated. what's more.. i try to change my SMTP to a new server (fresh IP within same network in the same DC) and it is ALSO deferred. How do I check if this has something to do with a whole block of IP maybe listed in some spam engine or something?
Like so many others I am having the problem in which Hotmail and Yahoo are rejecting emails being sent from my server. I recently changed servers and this is most likely the reason.
While Hotmail hasn't been fixed, they have responded swiftly, usually within 6 hours.
I need to contact Yahoo about it but I can't find any information or forms to fill out. Could you please direct me to the correct URL - their site is a complete maze.
Unfortunately yahoo blocked our server ip, so our customer cant send any email to yahoo! How can fix this issue? Do you have any email or ticket system in yahoo for contant about this issue?
business is just getting out of hand. I applied several weeks ago for Whitelist status, and my issues finally went away for a little over a week (though I never received a response to my Postmaster requests). But then today -bam- 100% deferrals for going on 18 hours now, not a single message has gone through. And naturally no two Yahoo servers give me the same error message.
So...
At this point I'm ready to contract out my Outbound mail to Yahoo through a whitelisted 3rd party until I can get this resolved on my end. Would this be reasonable? Is anyone else doing this? I worked with an outsourced SMTP provider in another life for an internal company mailing list with good success.
It seems that Yahoo does web hosting, and they offer WordPress as one of their one-click install kinds of things. Given the absolutely absurd responsiveness of yahoo.com, I was curious if anyone actually used them as a webhost?
Their pricing is decent, but I'm wondering about performance? I'm currently with Dreamhost, and I'm okay with them, except that WP performance isn't great (not awful, though, either), despite having wp-cache installed and operational.
So how good it Yahoo's small business webhosting? Their TOS seems pretty generous as well.
I am a hobbyist webmaster wanting to start a third website.
As a newbie, I started my website with Yahoo! Small Business. I didn’t know anything about hosting at that time and their ads captivated me. Also, there was confidence in dealing with a billion dollar company.
A couple of months later, when I started my second website I opted for Blue Host because I saw their ad on Word Press and I thought that anybody endorsed by WP would have to be good.
I am now in a position to compare and what I find is this:Yahoo!Cost$11.95 per monthEmails 250 in 24 hoursAdd-On Domains NilSupport Nil (only email)Fantastico Nil (Limited)Non-domain emailsNot permitted.htaccess Not allowedBlue HostCost $6.95 per monthEmails 500 per hour (12,000 in 24 hours)Add-On Domains UnlimitedSupport 24/7 live chatFantastico FullNon-domain emails Permitted.htaccess Allowed Yahoo! has had its fair share of downtime (a fortnight ago there was a server 500 error which lasted several hours). Also some months ago some of my files were infected by a javascript virus (though this may have been my fault for uploading files without virus protection).
I am quite happy with BH because I am paying less, get unlimited add-on domains (I added four very easily) and get 24/7 chat support (with Yahoo! you only get an automated email response after 24 - 48 hours!)
It is said that you get what you paid for. I am paying Yahoo! more but what am I getting in return which I am not getting from BH?
Or to put it another way: Why would someone (reasonably instructed) opt for Yahoo! over BH and others?
Is Yahoo! just a rip-off or am I missing something here?
I am tired of fighting yahoo and their horrible email policies.
I have some users that run contests and send weekly mailers to a large number of users on yahoo.. Well every time they send out their mailers (keep in mind they are not spam) yahoo decides to greylist our servers. I guess this is yahoo's way of attempting to block spam but then why is our "non spam" mail being deferred?
I am just really tired of having 10k emails in my mail que that are retrying throughout the day because yahoo deferred them. It's causing higher server loads and wasted bandwidth.
The error messages read: Please refer to[url]
So I go there.. make sure we are following their communist guidelines, and fill out the form only to be greeted with an automated response. Nothing else from yahoo, evidently they want $25/hr to fix the issue.. Extortion!
Bots with an IP of 74.6.*.* are endlessly crawling my forums, never seeming to be able to finish their task and using up huge amounts of bandwidth. Ideally I would like to be able to turn them away at the gate but allow others to view the site.
If I block the IP via the control panel they still visit presumably just getting error pages but still using up lots of bandwidth.
Anyone else have problems with Yahoo Spam filters being overzealous? I recently setup a new domain and a few email accounts. After sending a few test messages to my Yahoo email, each one of them was flagged as spam. I changed the text to a more regular email, with no controversial words and still the same result. I notice that Yahoo regularly traps some newsletters I subscribe to in my spam filter, but rarely, if ever legitimate emails. I checked with my web host who informed me they are not on any spam blacklists and that I would have to contact Yahoo. Yahoo's help is quite a maze (designed to make you lose interest and move on), so before I continue hunting for how to contact Y!, I thought I would come here to see if this is a common problem (with a common fix).
I was wondering if some of you more seasoned techie's can help me. I have a reseller hosting account and one of my clients is having issues with getting any email that is sent from any yahoo email account to her domain email. I have personally tried to send an email from my yahoo account to her domain email and here is the error I got back. None of my other clients has the issue. This is a new account by the way.

We've recently had a lot of complaints from clients who say Yahoo! mail recipients are not receiving the emails they send. We first noticed this sometime November 2006 but it could have started earlier.
One solution would be to find another hosting provider. The problem is I suspect that it's happening to a lot of hosts and it's Yahoo! in particular that seems to have been a lot more stringent than they were in the past.
I remember some time back (2004 or 2005), AOL blocked an EHOSTPROS.COM server (SVR28) for over 6 months. We also had SVR75 with them and it wasn't blocked (I believe they were in the same DC). And AOL was notorious for blocking a lot of servers. I don't know how it is with them now because from the Philippines, there is very little email exchange with AOL.COM or AIM.COM accounts.
And there is a lot of emails going to YAHOO.COM accounts! And that's where the problem lies.
I first noticed it on my ResellerZoom reseller account (GRAY). Mails from GRAY accounts were completely blocked off by Yahoo! It didn't even go to the Bulk Folder. So Yahoo! was blocking the GRAY server's mail IP and not particular domains (I don't think blocking a domain makes any sense, you usually block IP's).
I opened a ticket with RZ and got great support. But of course, it was about 3 days before Yahoo! started accepting mails from GRAY. RZ did the best they can but could only have done so much.
And then the same thing happened with my HostGator reseller account (INFINITI). Similar issue as well.
From that time until today, it seems to come back on and off. Sometimes emails never reach Yahoo!, sometimes it lands in the Bulk Folder (that's a much lesser evil).
I have 3 reseller accounts at RZ (CAMERON B1, GRAY A1, R2 Failover-1) and 2 reseller accounts at HG (INFINITI and SONOMA). The same issue has come back again the past couple of days on INFINITI (HostGator) and GRAY (ResellerZoom). I'd open a ticket but it's on and off.
Dec 5 / Dec 6, several clients on INFINITI complained that emails to Yahoo! recipients were not being delivered. By the time we tested it, it was ok already. And then just a few hours ago, we got a call from a client on GRAY. We tested and emails were landing on the Bulk Folder. But after a couple of more tests, it went to the Inbox.
We advise clients to tell Yahoo! recipients to always check their Bulk Folders. We also ask the recipients to tag emails with MARK AS NOT SPAM hoping that would help.
You could say that I should be going to HG and RZ support for these. It's just that I don't think it's limited to them and I want to get feedback from others. I will also invite HG and RZ to give their comments on this post.
In the reseller hosting area, I'll actually be asking around also for reseller hosting that's more reliable with email. But I've been doing reseller hosting since May 2003 and have used all of the following:
There were more in between but that was a quick in and out. The above list in the sequence I signed up and only includes those that I stayed with long enough (at least 6 months) to evaluate and decide if they're worth it.
I won't expound but avoid MIDPHASE, SITE5, and BLIKSEM. There's enough here on WHT for you to search upon.
My point is that, by far, I've had the best experience with HG and RZ and it does get tiring moving from one host to the other. And it's not that we haven't contributed to the problem. A lot of our clients' contact us forms have recently been hijacked by spammers and have caused abuse on the servers. We're working on fixing each and everyone of these scripts (> 80) and should solve it within a few days. We do our part but there are hundreds of accounts and millions of ways spammers try to hijack server resources for their cause. Note, however, that those scripts have been there for quite awhile and only recently have they been used to spam.
Although there are a lot of other hosts with good reps here on WHT, the only other host I am considering (for the moment) is Aussie Bob's DOTABLE.COM.
But then, right now, with these email woes, we're still evaluating our business. The bulk of our clients are dependent on email. Too much incoming spam is already an issue but mails not reaching intended recipients kinds of ruins the business.
Damned these spammers!
Is there actually a viable solution for this issue? Or is it something that we just have to start living with?
We are only a small construction business in NEW Zealand, and send very few emails. But from the 4th April, Yahooo has started blocking all emails from our domain name?
We hve not done bulk newsletters, we have not had bulk reject messages. Our website/ email host is Clevernet.
YAhoo NZ have sent us a bulk email form, which Clevernet submitted. We then had to get another approved server form filled out by Cleverney which they did last Friday, but our email domain is still blocked.
Xtra/ Yahoo NZ< seem to think there is nothing they can do, but wait and see if Yahoo unblock it. There does not seem to be anyone who we can contact at the Yahoo server. NZ say they cant contact anyone at Yahoo. We seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I found myself writing some filters to monitor spider activity across various sites. Unfortunately it appears that an increasing number of time wasters are setting their User Agent to Googlebot and likes.
Googlebot is pretty easy to filter out as given some research it appears that any legit googlebot IP has a valid .googlebot.com PTR that resolves back to the original IP. It does not appear to be as straight forward with other spiders with msnbot topping the hilarity chart with IPs resolving to meaningless .phx.gbl names.
Is anyone aware of any recommendations or trustworthy references that can be used as guidelines to reliably identify legitimate spider request from fakes?
I bought a hosting package from Yahoo Small Business India.
Initially i was happy because the package was cheap and had good features. Database was easily set up I installed php admin tool also with one click install. No other packages are available. One has to manually upload and install.
I tried to upload phpbb but i wasn't able to upload some files. I emailed them and asked why the server gives an error while uploading .htaccess files, the reply was we don't support it. I uploaded it without .htaccess and installed it. I installed wordpess and wanted to have clean URLs but yahoo does not support mod rewrite. I don’t know much about php and databases.
9th July 2008: While I was learning I modified some tables due to which my database administrator permissions were lost. I was able to login using phpadmin but unable to create new databases and modify previously created databases and tables. I emailed customer care regarding the problem and got a useless reply on 10th July that I should change the password of the database administrator.
I changed the password but the problem was not resolved. On 11th I again emailed the problem in detail with screenshots to the customer care. On 12th, I got a reply “we have forwarded this issue to the technical team and we will inform you once this issue is resolved.”
On 12th I emailed to ask when the problem will be resolved but got no reply from them. Till date (15th July) the problem is not resolved. No one even wants to reply to emails.
See below my emails and replies given by yahoo customer care:
******************************************************** My email to yahoo customer care on 9th July:
I have some problem with database. By mistake i modified my original user name which i created while setting up the database. Now i can't access the tables that were created with previous user name. With regards to your query, follow the below steps to assign a new user name and password to access your database: 1.Logon to your "web hosting control panel". 2.Go to "create and update" tab. 3.Select "MySql databases". 4.Select "database administrator" and assign your user name and password and click "submit". Dear Sir, Thanks for your reply. I have already done that from database administrator link but the problem is not resolved. This problem has started since yesterday because of my mistake. I modified the original database administrator "user name" from the database "mysql". After modification all my permissions have lost. I have not modified the yroot user. So can you grant the administrator permissions to new user The problem is that after logging in using phpadmin i don't have permission to create a new database. The databases and tables that I created earlier are also not available to me. I am also attaching the screenshot (.gif) of what error i am getting. When i click any database in phpadmin i get the following message:
SQL query: SHOW TABLE STATUS FROM `wpress` ; MySQL said:#1044 - Access denied for user to database 'wpress'
If there is no solution then please reset the database, so that MySQL database can be set up again. Regards, (Vinay Chhabra)

Can you tell me....Why is yahoo marking my mail as junk?
Can anyone tell me what the likely causes are for yahoo to be marking my emails to clients as junk? We have reverse DNS set up for the server's main IP address, and I'm just not too savvy on the email technicalities of today.
I'll be happy to give you any information you need to help me diagnose the problem. It's getting irritating having to call my clients and tell them to dig the mail out of their junk folder.
