Want To Tarball My Website Files And Restore With WHM
Jun 20, 2009
I have moved the server and server accounts are now in the new server but my websites files are in /restore/home and the databases are in /restore/var/lib/mysql
I am little confused and looking for someone's guidance on tarballing the whole files with database of each accounts and to be restored in my new server through WHM. Can anyone show me the right path to do this?
We have been with Apollo hosting for 5 or so years. 10 days ago, our entire site went down. After waiting around 4 days and hours of dealing with tech support, they got a shell of our website back up. Their excuse for deleting it was that they ran a script on their servers that was corrupt, which in error, deleted our site.
They were unable to restore our database, SQL, php, search functions, etc. as they said they deleted them and did not have a back up as databases took up too much room on servers!! And they cannot restore what is no longer there. We have to rebuild our database all over again, hundreds of hours of work with property descriptions and photos, forms, etc.
After this experience with Apollo hosting our fear level is high and our trust level is low.
We need help with finding a new web host. Currently paying Apollo $ 30. mo for shared hosting.
We need Front Page extension, pph,SQL. Want web host that backs up entire website daily on tape that stores off-site. I have researched some on web hosting review sites and better business bureau online, and find many complaints for various webhosts.
After restore (without any errors) some of my files are missing from one particular domain. The files are present in the backup however, they just don't restore. In this case it is a Wordpress installation and the complete wp-content folder did not restore one one of the domains.
Now what I want to do is restore 11 files from the backup. What I certainly don't want to do is restore the entire domain as I don't want to loose any changes since the last backup.
As it seems impossible to extract files from the archives.
I am trying to restore a backup that Parallels Plesk made (latest version) and I used to get the option at some point to replace everything. Now, I only get the options to select what I want to restore and it fails because it says certain things, domains, content is already there.
I can't find the option anymore that allows me to say replace everything during the backup. Was that removed? If so, I'd really....really like it back.

I am redoing a website that is currently being hosted by some shady company that is completely unreachable. I have the ftp server info and password, and I am trying to get on using FileZilla, however there must be something incorrect because it is not letting me access the site.
Is there anyway I can host this website using the same current domain, even though it is already being hosted by this other horrible company? The person I am doing the site for has been trying to contact the company for months to cancel hosting, but they are not responding.
For example, if the company was company.com, and I have created a new site for them which I have on my own webserver, how do I access company.com so that the website I made will now be at that domain?
I recently had a harddrive failure and luckliy I can still access certain directories on this failed drive. I can still access the /var/lib/mysql/ directory which holds all the users databases and have backed all these up separately using tar.
Now what I need to know is how do you restore these database files to another server? I tried simply untar'ing one of these to the new servers /var/lib/mysql/ direcotry and it stuffed Mysql up - it went offline. I had to get a cpanel tech to bring Mysql back online.
how can I get these database files to fully work on a new server?
When I use website copy function the website files are copied to another domain but the database remains on old site. I use this function to move the website from devel state to the production state. All sites work fine but when i schedule the backups all databases are saved on old domain. How to move the database on production domain?
Would like to know what are the dangers of backing up and restoring full entire system backups (with plesk installed) to another server with a different ip address? Will the restored plesk setup operate properly and offer an ip address change in the system, or will there be any pre-requisites required such as manual ip changing within the system core files?
If I type google.com in my address bar, it forwards me to www.google.com. This is not happening for my website right now. I think its a good idea to do this, since then search engines will have only 1 main URL for the website to index.
My question is:
How do I implement this? I think this may involve mucking with CNAME settings...
I couldn't keep my mouth shut (technically fingers). A customer wanted to upgrade servers and he needed a way to move the data across. Since I don't allow hard drives to be swapped, they have to do it manually all by themselves. I generally allow up-to 4 days for them to transfer data and make DNS changes, etc. But this time, I offered help! I agreed to move the data (darn me) and it just came out of me, involuntarily.
God knows what just happened... but in a positive way, customer is extremely happy!
So...
Both servers are on cPanel - with root access (duh)
200 odd files which total to 25 GB
1 database about 100 MB in size (no biggie)
I was planning on using one of my Windows 2003 servers (via remote desktop) to download the 25 GB and upload the 25 GB, but that sounds like a waste of resources and time.
I use WHM to do nighly full backups of all my accounts. One one account (my own web site) I want to restore ONLY a certain directiy and its subdirectories. Is this possible or do I have to restore the entire site? If so, how?
I have dedicated server and I have daily, weekly and monthly backups located in:
root: /backup/cpbackup (my secondary drive) each account's backup locate in specific directory like: the backup of account website1.com will be located in: root: /backup/cpbackup/website1 all backups are not compressed file
I have on my server vBulletin 1.7GB database in SQL format I try somany time to restore it but its hang! I transfer that file to another server and its working fine!
I take full backup of one site. the site have 250 mb database mysql i click on backup restore inwhm and select site and whm say Restore done. ut mysql can`t restore good
