Apollo Hosting Deleted Our Website And Can't Restore Sql
Jun 23, 2009
We have been with Apollo hosting for 5 or so years. 10 days ago, our entire site went down. After waiting around 4 days and hours of dealing with tech support, they got a shell of our website back up. Their excuse for deleting it was that they ran a script on their servers that was corrupt, which in error, deleted our site.
They were unable to restore our database, SQL, php, search functions, etc. as they said they deleted them and did not have a back up as databases took up too much room on servers!! And they cannot restore what is no longer there. We have to rebuild our database all over again, hundreds of hours of work with property descriptions and photos, forms, etc.
After this experience with Apollo hosting our fear level is high and our trust level is low.
We need help with finding a new web host. Currently paying Apollo $ 30. mo for shared hosting.
We need Front Page extension, pph,SQL. Want web host that backs up entire website daily on tape that stores off-site. I have researched some on web hosting review sites and better business bureau online, and find many complaints for various webhosts.
Much of the backstory on Apollo Hosting can be found in a post by allenjo (I can't link to it due to having fewer than 5 posts, apparently; run a search for "allenjo" and/or "Apollo").
Bottom line is that they've been bought out by an outfit called Endurance International who proceeded to send me a rather rudely-worded and abrupt notice that they were unable to migrate 3 of my clients' accounts over to their new servers, due to "incompatibilities" with their migration system. Therefore, they are shutting the server down completely as of Sept. 30th, forcing me to move all 3 of my clients over to a different hosting service.
This would be irritating enough, but I had also pre-paid Apollo for Miva hosting on all three sites through the end of the year, at $23.96/month per domain. Bottom line is that Apollo owes me at least $215 in refunds for the portion of the hosting service that I'm unable to use due to their new managements' incompetence.
So, I went ahead and issued a refund request via their ticketing system--and was told in response that I'd have to *fax* copies of my entire billing/payment history to them because "As you are aware of that we are the new owners of Apollo shared hosting business. We do not have access to the old server. Unfortunately, we do not have any records for the services that you paid to the former owners."
This is either an outright lie (they bought the company but have no clue as to what services their existing clients have paid for, through what date, or how much they've paid?) or, if true, it shows an unbelievable level of incompetence on the new managements' part. I went ahead and faxed the info to them--taken, I might add, from Apollo's OWN ONLINE BILLING ACCOUNT CONTROL PANEL--and waited. I was told it would take "up to 2 days" to "investigate" and "review" my issue.
I gave them the exact starting and ending dates for each account, the exact amounts paid for each and for what period of service, etc. I even did the math for them. They have all the info and proof they need.
Today, after 2 days, I contacted them to see what the status was, and was told simply that it would take "more time than normal" to "investigate" the situation before "determining" how to respond.
Seeing how it takes all of 2 minutes to tally up the dollar amounts and issue a credit for the appropriate amount to my credit card, this again shows that they're either idiots, they're absolutely swamped with refund/credit requests, or that they have no intention of issuing the refund.
In any of these cases, I'd strongly urge people to avoid Apollo Hosting--now owned by Endurance International--like the plague. Even if they *do* issue the refund, the way they've handled this whole situation is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
my site is down for 2 days. this started 2 weeks ago when the vps started to work very bad and my site has been down more time than up. they closed the topic: "horrible experience with liquidweb" [url] but I still have not a solution and now somebody accidentally I suppose, deleted the database.
I cant do nothing and my last backup i have here is from +1month ago..
in cpanel I see: "sql disk usage": 120 mb but in databases zone it doesnt appear and phpmyadmin access is denied.

Could not connect to the database
what can I do? can they restore it?
My sport community is in the worst nightmare I could imagine :-(
I have moved the server and server accounts are now in the new server but my websites files are in /restore/home and the databases are in /restore/var/lib/mysql
I am little confused and looking for someone's guidance on tarballing the whole files with database of each accounts and to be restored in my new server through WHM. Can anyone show me the right path to do this?
When I try to change hosting type to "Forwarding" it changes ok.
If I change hosting type to "Website hosting", I get message "The hosting type for "website name" was successfully changed.", but hosting plan still stay "No web hosting"....
Would like to know what are the dangers of backing up and restoring full entire system backups (with plesk installed) to another server with a different ip address? Will the restored plesk setup operate properly and offer an ip address change in the system, or will there be any pre-requisites required such as manual ip changing within the system core files?
Is it possible to buy a dedicated server off eg Dell and host your own website on it from home ie with a www prefix to the url- Do ye know any good tutorial on it. Would 20Mbit bandwidth be enough bandwidth for a fairly busy php ,mysql site? Completely new to this.
Why are all the established and turnkey websites trying to sell you some cheap hosting package and always say there is something like a $8.88 domain renewal fee and all that junk?
I'm just looking for a template to setup, already with content and whatnot and I can't find any, none! Does anyone sell just templates?
What is involved in hosting a website from a local PC?
I have developed a site on 'localhost' on my PC and am running ISS, I also have a domain name plus forwarding. My internet connecton is broadband and I'm using an ADSL/Ethernet router. How do I connect it up?
A few days back i had made a post asking about which would the best host for a dating website that me and a couple of friends were planning to start. Thanks alot to everyone for the answers.
However now we have decided to go with a gaming website, as the idea appeals to most of us.
The concept is to have a real time online game running on the server 24X7, people can join any time they want and leave any time they want, the game would still keep progressing. My main concerns with such a site are:
1. Bandwidth : As people will be online for a long time playing the game I am guessing we will need good amount of bandwidth
2. Server CPU : Will we end up eating lot of server CPU as the game engine will be running 24X7 on the server? What kind of implications does this have? I dont see any CPU specific details in the hosting plans i have seen so far.
Please advise on the above two. What kind of hosting should I be looking for? Hosting budget is 30$/month (max).
I have a friend who has a dedicated server right now that uses a good 4GB for all his website content. (not streaming media but just a whole bunch of scripts and etc. well thats what he tells me). And so anyways, his SQL database is about 1-2GB. And he is not too sure about his monthly traffic but its a social networking site with a good amount of users (so its actively used by many users). Would it be necessary for him to have a dedicated server or do you think he could cut costs with a shared hosting account at like host gator or some other shared hosting service like that? I guess my biggest concern is his current database. A lot of shared hosting companies (from what i saw) offer unlimited Mysql Tables do they have size limits? And does a bigger sql database drastically effect the performance of the overall server?
I am re-developing a website that launched 8 yeas ago. When the site launched it was developed in TCL and had an Oracle back end. The site's previous developer is still hosting the site on his server.
Long story short, we are re-developing the site on a new server at a different location. We'd like to re-launch on the old server (to help maintain Google search rankings), but we are developing in .Net and SQL. The old server is Linux. We want to maintain our ranking on Google since we are "Top Ten" on more than 20 great keyword phrases.
If we use a DNS forward from the old IP to the new one, are we going to loose rankings on Google? Obviously yes. But would it be beneficial to help the old developer buy a SQL server so the DNS forward is to a server 2 feet away as opposed to across the country? Does Google treat these equally?
I have started a new image hosting website and currently i alloted 7 GB Disk Space and 30GB BW. I know it will not be enough after the site get famous. So which host i can go for to be in a safer side with my image hosting website?
I believe it's ev1server.net But i'm not sure if it's correct or not. This website is jacking some of my cursors. He/she doesn't even rename the files that he/she takes. It's the exact same filename as the one's I have on my website. Also when you look internally you can see information about the cursors. It says something like created by, animated by etc.
I just want to contact his webhost to remove my cursors.
I am using GoDaddy to host my two websites using their deluxe linux hosting plan. It allows me to host multiple websites using one account.
Where I have one domain name registered as primary domain and mapped it to root () and the next one is I have created a subfolder named test inside root ( est) and mapped to it.
Now in browser if I put, firstsitename est it shows the second website.
My question is, i) How can i block that? ii) Will this kind of hosting give any problem with SEO?
