I have domain (domain.com) which is on dedicate server with root access.
also have 2-nd-domain.com which is on hostgator host(where can i add domains via addon domains)
now i need to setup 1.domain.com subdomain on hostgator.
how can i do it ?
pls correct me, if i'm wrong
1. via Directadmin Subdomain Management tool (on domain.com) add "1" subdomain
2. check "DNS Management" section -> 1.domain.com is on main domain.com IP
Unfortunately there isn't any option to edit this record. i can only delete it and add manually. (i know, that i can do it via SSH - > edit config file, but i don't have enought experience to edit files via SSH. just know, few commands, how to archive, reboot, move, etc ...)
delete this record and add manually
DNS Management -> Add Domain Records ->
1.domain.com - A record =IP of hostgatore host
btw, did i need to add NS records?
3. go to 2-nd-domain.com and try to add 1.domain.com via addon domains.
it seems, that i'm doing something wrong, as i got

I am trying to setup a subdomain and/or virtual host to redirect to a specific port and path. I have setup my server with DDYNS through my domain name registar. Through the ddyns client I have set it to assign a subdomain of "outside.name.com" so that my server will have a easy name to get to instead of a dynamic ip address.
I have also setup on my registrars host records another subdomain of "inside.name.com" with a static IP address for internet network accessing to my server. My problem is that I have a service/program on my server that I need access to both internally and externally and this service can only be access through a port of 32400 and HTTP address of /web. (e.g. outside.name.com:32400/web or inside.name.com:32400/web)...
Is there a way that I can create a VirtualHost or Subdomain of "service.*.name.com" that redirects them to ":32400/web" of the hostname they're on? (e.g. service.outside.name.com automatically forwards or proxies--to keep it pretty--to service.outside.name.com:32400/web)

I am really getting confused now. Some people tell me it is possible to set up a simple subdomain and add a SSL-certificate to this, while others tell me I have to set up a new account for the subdomain (subdomain.domain.com) in WHM and assign it to it's own IP-adress.
So, my queston is what is the best way to set up a secure subdomain, like [url]? I have already purchased a SSL-certificate for secure.domain.com.
I am struggling with this all the day, no answer i found here as well. how to setup proper a subdomain i need. My Apache config has 2 domains configured (on same IP), for the domain2.com i need to setup a sub-domain. Here is what i have so far, but the subdomain keeps redirecting me to domain2.com (main site).
I currently have a domain example.com If I create a subdomain e.g. a.example.com and b.example.com can I host these subdomains with 2 different hosting comanys
I own a domain, www.mysite.com, and wanted to create a subdomain (sub.mysite.com) but wanted to host that sub domain on another host.
In otherwords, mysite.com is on my own dedicated server, but I wanted to host sub.mysite.com on lunarpages, godaddy, or any other host.
I didn't see this ability on Godaddy or Lunarpages which leads me to the question which hosts allow me to use my own subdomain while keeping my main domain on my dedicated server?
i have 1 dedicated server, and 1 shared hosting the domain.com is hosted in dedicated server i want the subdomain sub.domain.com in other host i have try this but not working:
I. the dedicated server have whm and cpanel in whm i go to DNS Functions --> Edit DNS Zone --> i add sub name , choose A, and enter other ip host
II. the shared hosting only have cpanel i go to cpanel --> addons domain --> add my domain.com then go to cpanel again --> Subdomains --> i add sub from domain.com with above step i just got this when accessing the url [url]:
Great Success! Apache is working on your cPanel and WHM Server If you can see this page, then the people who manage this server have installed cPanel and WebHost Manager (WHM) which use the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content. ATTENTION!
i have been stuck in this situation for more than a week...
the situation on my side is this:
<-- i have a domain at godaddy, and using godaddy windows hosting.. i have a website in ASP.NET, and i want to make a subdomain for my forum suppose: forum.mydomain.com and forward it to other host on cpanel... -->
Other side: <-- my friend has bought reseller hosting and have created an account for me with the name of mydomain.com. and the server IP is x.x.x.123 -->
i logged in to my account in cpanel and created a subdomain named "forum"
then i created the subdomain on godaddy and pointed the A record of this subdomain to x.x.x.123
now when i open forum.mydomain.com.....it displays error page... (i have kept a simple index.html file in public_html)
any solution to this problem?
i need steps to resolve this problem and what configurations i need to do on godaddy + cpanel manager....

I have a fresh Ubuntu 14.04 install (desktop). I installed Apache, php and mysql from APT and updated everything.I tried to setup a virtual host using these directions: URL...I followed them to the letter:
o I created a folder /var/www/mydomain.local/public_html o I copied the 000-default.conf in sites available and modified it o I added mydomain.local to my hosts file (with IP of 127.0.0.1 o I used a2ensite to enable the host o I used service apache2 reload
When I went to mydomain.local in firefox, it took me to the default host main page.I tried a restart of the service and even a reboot of the computer. No change. On a theory, I used a2dissite to remote 000-default from the enabled site list and reloaded the service. I got the home page for mydomain.local after that.
I created a named host called localhost and reloaded the apache. When I went to http://localhost it took me to the mydomain.local homepage. Rebooted the computer. Now, localhost gives me the apache default home page and mydomain.local does not work at all (I get a server not found).
I get the feeling that there is an apache configuration item I am missing but I cannot find it.
I have recently left dreamhost in search of a more reliable and speedy host. The only thing I will be missing from dreamhost is their customer support which is very good. In fact I didn't think it could be topped by anyone...but I was proven wrong (at least so far).
So what host did I choose? Downtown host obviously (based on title : P). This is not a FULL host review, just initial setup and support which normally would be a huge ordeal for me without help.
Anyway, I bought my hosting a few days ago and requested a site transfer in their support ticket system. I was greeted within 10 minutes by the support team walking me through the steps I needed to take in order to get it going. Once I gave them the proper information, the transfer was done in under an hour for four-five sites. I then tried setting up the sites by connecting them to the new databases that they transferred my data into. Didn't work like I thought it would so I continued to mess around with it until I basically screwed up my initial database...oops. Another ticket to support and within 10 min I get a reply that they will transfer the sites and repopulate the database again for me. Very nicely I might add. No sarcastic emails because the dumb noob messed up his database or anything : ]
The new transfer was complete and I set up everything without a hitch (since I figured out what I did wrong).
All this was done through a series of around 20-30 support emails. Every one was answered often within minutes. None over 10 minutes. All were pleasant answers and none were snotty in the least. Thank you Jorge, Sabastian and Diego for helping me with the problems. Their support indeed beat the crap out of dreamhost's. I've rarely gotten a response that quickly.
My package is nothing to scoff at either. 5GB of space and 100GB of bandwidth for around 65+ a year. That's right a year. The sites have run perfectly so far and the speeds have been VERY fast compared to dreamhost's.
I'd say I am incredibly happy with my initial setup with downtownhost. I will post a follow up review in a few months addressing my experiences with reliability and such. I expect it to be another good review, as I haven't been able to find a negative one for downtownhost on WHT.
Does anyone know if it's possible to setup a proxy server on a shared web host w/ cpanel? I just want to be able to browse using FoxyProxy from the IP of that shared web host.
Is there a better setup? I have an extra (older) mac machine that I could play with. I would prefer free software recommendations.
I still consider myself a newbie at this even though I've been hosting my own business and personal sites for a few years now. I am now looking into maybe providing services in the near future to the public. My goal is to manage the entire service from equipment to customer service.
I'm using Vertrigo 2.30 which in turn uses Apache 2.2.26 as part of its stack I am trying to set up virutal host on Windows 7 home premium.in httpd.conf I have uncommented Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf in C:WindowsSystem32driversetchosts I have
in C:Program Files (x86)VertrigoServApacheconfvertrigo.conf I have
<Directory "C:Program Files (x86)VertrigoServwww"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from All </Directory>
[code]...
my primary domain still works perfectly but the virtual host I created keeps loading 403 error page I have checked the Apache error log and I found two instanses of
[Tue Dec 31 08:33:29 2013] [error] [client 198.0.65.217] script 'C:/Program Files (x86)/VertrigoServ/www/vhost/modules.php' not found or unable to stat, referer: URL....I have no clue where or why its reading a module.php file granted I do use Nuke Evolution on my primary site but the only page in the virual host folder is a index.html I have checked and double checked.
Can I manage all from one .htaccess file in main root (www) or should I create "esp" directory (and point old subdomain to it - one for every language) and put .htaccess in every directory with redirection ?Â
As my clients' needs expand, they're asking for chroot ssh/sftp setup. I'm currently on a dedicated Linux setup but don't really have the time to set up a whole new box with full virtualization or investigate a full chroot solution (baby on the way), and to be honest it would be less hassle to move to a new provider than worry about down time with sites.
What I'm looking for:
- linux hosting - hosting for 30+ accounts, some with several domains - at least 6 IP addresses for SSL certs - each account in a full chroot environment (ssh/sftp/ftp) so they can't poke around each others' files, or each account set up in a virtual machine setup (ie: openvz) - maildir - spamassassin - php 5, mysql, perl 5.8.8 - suexec apache would be nice
I have learnt it is harder to setup than I initially expected (since I have just moved from a shared hosting service). I am in need of some help setting up my DNS servers, as I am very confused. Here is most of the info I know:
1) I am running HyperVM
2) I've installed LXAdmin
3) I own the domain (purchased from xeodomains.com) runemart.com
4) My VPS hostname is: vps.runemart.com
5) I know my IP
6) My host has said:
'For VPS customers that have a HyperVM login you can now host forward DNS on the DNS servers rdns1.vaserv.com (US)rdns2.vaserv.com (UK'
And I am unsure what this means/how to do it.
I am not sure if I need some more information to set up my DNS, however I am sure that I can get it if I do.
Now, my questions begin. Firstly, I need to point my domain - runemart.com - somewhere. I believe I need to set up my DNS via HyperVM or LXAdmin so that they are something like: ns1.runemart.com and ns2.runemart.com. Though, is this correct? Am I able to set up my own actual domain name servers, or will my domain have to point at something like rdns2.vaserv.com?
If anyone can assist me in this I would be very greatful, as I am waiting to get my website running. This is all I will ask for now, I will take it one step at a time =).
I'm configuring a website for a client who has moved their web hosting to downtownhost, but is keeping their email hosting with their current provider. They do not want to configure an MX entry on DTH to autoforward email back to their current provider because they don't want their email to pass through DTH.
In order to do this, do I keep the nameserver entries on the current provider the same, and configure an http redirect to point to DTH? Or is there something else I should configure on the current provider?
I was with Blue Host and their support and service was pretty bad. Servers going down all the time, and chat support was terrible. Then I moved to Host Monster and received the same kind of service/support. I later then figured out that Blue Host and Host Monster is runned by the same people. For example, I opened up a tech support ticket with Host Monster and then they replied signing their signature with Blue Host. So I got the same service: terrible tech support and servers kept going down. Now I'm looking for a new web hosting. I a few people here gave Host Gator some good reviews. I hope Host Gator is not run be the same people that runs Blue Host and Host Monster.
with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?
Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?
Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?
