What Software Setup For Mail/webmail/web/cp/dns Host

Jun 3, 2007

a Control Panel for OS X 10.4 (non server)?

Current setup:

OS X 10.4.9
Postfix
Apache 1.3.33 (Darwin)

Is there a better setup? I have an extra (older) mac machine that I could play with. I would prefer free software recommendations.

I still consider myself a newbie at this even though I've been hosting my own business and personal sites for a few years now. I am now looking into maybe providing services in the near future to the public. My goal is to manage the entire service from equipment to customer service.

Vps Host Using Non-standard Ports For Webmail

Nov 2, 2009

I have been having consistent problems with my VPS where I can't access my webmail from public WiFi areas (coffee shops etc). Tonight it happened at a hotel wifi area; my web host had me telnet using ports 2082 2083 and 2086 which all failed. My web host says the ports for webmail are 2095 and 2096 which also failed and often non-standard ports are blocked.

Is this correct? I travel a lot so not being able to access my mail is a big problem. This is a VPS problem as it happens to all domains hosted on the VPS. What are my options? I have a lot of other webmail services (separate from this vps) that I never have trouble with.

Webmail E-mail Block

Dec 23, 2007

I've been onto my hosting company numerous times and they keep asking me to contact them when this problem happens again, it's a vicious circle as when it does they ask me to wait for it to "happen again".

Cpanel X comes with my hosting account, obviously the standard webmail programs, which I actually don't use but in this case they serve as a solution. I've set up two e-mail addresses according to my domain name, I receive the e-mail through Mozilla Thunderbird which have all the correct POP3 settings etc etc.

Around 10-20 times a month, all of a sudden I will stop receiving my e-mail, Thunderbird will refuse to download the inbox and sometimes returns a timeout error.

I log into the account via the webmail software "horde" to find all my mails stacked up and that some of them do not have a KB measurement. Please see the below screenshot

[url]

If I "delete" these e-mails without the KB measurement my mail box will then be downloaded by Thunderbird.

I'm completely stumbled as to why this happens. It doesn't seem to be any particular e-mails which arrive like this to the box, sometimes they can be junk but other times business e-mails which have been downloaded perfectly fine before.

I've deleted and setup the e-mail accounts several times from Cpanel. Triple checked all my mail client settings and nothing jumps out at me.

Make Webmail.mysite.com For Squirrel Mail

Jan 27, 2007

Is there an easy way to name the main Squirrel Mail address (just IP numbers now) as a subdomain like webmail.mysite.com?

My old host used to have it that way, but now that I'm doing the dedicated thing, I have to set it up myself - and I'm miffed.

Email Clients Say Not An IMAP4 Server Can Only Get Mail Through Webmail?

Jan 3, 2007

Alright, so I apparently messed up my email. I downloaded my email folders from my previous host's mail folder through FTP and then uploaded them to my new server's mail folder thinking it'd be an easy transfer. Yeh... didn't work, now I can't get my email through Outlook 2003 or ThunderBird. Any ideas on how to reset my mail server? I don't know if it's just the mail folder that's messed up or what.

Skip Webmail Login - Go Straight To Squirrel Mail

Jan 31, 2007

Does anybody know a painless way to make webmail.mydomain.com go straight to the Squirrel Mail login page, bypassing the www.mydomain.com:2095 page?

Or is there a way to use that page, but go straight to the user's Squirrel Mail page?
