View 14 RepliesI've been trying to find a decent and reasonably priced website/server monitoring service that alerts me by SMS and email if something goes down. I have 3 HTTP addresses and one HTTPS I'd like to check in 5 minute intervals.
Have you had any good experiences with services like this?
Does websites uptime monotoring tools and services like for example: pindom, siteuptime or host-tracker can in any way affect the server or vps performance of the website being monitor.
I think that a Monitor service that do a test every 30 minutes dont cause any inpact, but if the interval on check test is every 1 minute.
Can this every minute check affect in any way the performance of a server or vps?
Pingdom vs Others - Monitoring Uptime Tools
So i looking to buy a quality and reliable uptime monitoring service. I have been testing PingDom free trial, and all the reports went fine. Also the interface is good looking and as public reports to show to clients.
So in terms of use and fuctions, Pingdom is perfect for me, but i wanted to know if Pingdom is a quality / rock-solid / reliable service? Or its just has a beutiful interface?
Any bad or good experiences with Pingdom?
Note: From many other posts i see that Alertra is a quality and reliable service.
So when comparing to PingDom will Alertra be much more reliable?
any free scripts that allow you to monitor uptime status of your servers, local/remote?
most simplistically, just have one server that pings / http requests from other servers to see if they're online, and generates stats.
more ideally, be able to set up multiple checking nodes (like what host-tracker does) so it can check uptime of multipel servers from multiple locations and build reports.
I am getting increasing frustrated each day as I went from shared server to shared server and now I'm on a VPS and my server is typically down 2-5% per day. Is this normal? Is it to much to expect 99% uptime?

can i ask how could you increase the uptime of your server?
Would you rather have your site hosted on a server that goes down frequently, but with support that is constantly monitoring it, and resolves all of your issues in a timely fashion?
or
Would you rather have your site hosted on a very reliable server, but when a problem does arise, support is either not knowledgeable enough, or is incredibly slow at fixing the problem?
How can I check uptime or how to check downtime on my server? My members told me that they can not login to my site and it shows: Page can not found or Sever not found.
View 14 Replies View RelatedIs there any script or program that can ping or load a page from a server on a regular basis to check if the server is still running?
For example using a shared hosting server B to ping dedicated server A to see if A is still running. Else B will send a email to the sys admin. Something along this line.
I currently run a business that has 125 to 150 domains, with 150GB worth of files and databases.
Right now my business is hosted on Hostgator. The files and database are not 100% protected if a hard drive crashes. I Found www.mosso.com and they take all my hosting problems of 100% uptime and backups away, but they also create a few because I don't get command line access to a server.
We use GIT to manage the upgrade and development process of the application, so we need command line access.
My question to you is:
How do you handle this backup issue?
If I can take my focus off of making sure there is 100% uptime and backups if something crashes automatically, I can grow my business much faster.
Are there any tools out there that can monitor the uptime of my server (of my websites)?
Maybe an application that keeps pinging it throughout the day or some type of web-service?
Is there a good service for tracking server uptime (and therefore, downtime)?

Does anyone know of a good email server montior or diagnostic solution that works with MailEnable? Preferably something free or cheap.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy dedicated server is sometimes sluggishly slow. I would like to get a grasp of its performance during a day, to get a better understanding of what's going on.
Therefore I am looking for a server performance monitoring service. All service I found so far were simply monitoring uptime (server is down / server is up). I need something more - a service that checks every 30 seconds or so the loading time of the main page.
Then it would allow me to download the data in CSV or draw a response time graph.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of purchasing a server that will monitor about 50 different servers using Nagios. It would probably just run Apache and nothing else but i was wondering if anyone has experience setting up a Nagios server just for monitoring other boxes on a network.
I'm wondeirng if this can be done. I will be monitoring a few customer servers but would like to give those customers access to Nagios and access only to their servers and nobody elses. Is there a way to setup Nagios so certain users can view their own boxes and nobody elses? Probaby setting up some type of group configuration. What about alerts? If a customers box goes down they would need to be alerted. Does Nagios allow those users to receive alerts specific to their boxes.
Not even sure how powerful the server should be. Probably a Celery or something a bit more powerful should do.
