View 5 RepliesI have a task of converting a current Win Server based apache server from multiple IP based virtual hosts to a full name based virtual hosting.I'm famiilar with the steps but I was wondering if there are any gotchas in Windows that I should be aware of. It seems that now matter what I change in the new config it doesn't work or work as expected.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am mainly using asp.net2.0 (C#, VB) for programming), so I need the server pc meets the requirement for that.
Would you please let me know where to find those information such as minim requirement for the hardware, also related software?
I have setup a CentOS 4.5 on a server with no fancy options enabled.
The only thing I have is the ssh service running on port 22.
The server comes up fine but is inaccessible until I login into the console and pings an external IP or domain.
Once I have done this, I am able to remotely login into the server via ssh.
And then few minutes after, the server becomes unavailable again until I do the same routine...ping an external IP or domain.
Does anyone know any good system for monitoring if a server is online?

Ie RAID 10 / SAN with good support willing to pay upto 70 USD per month.
I don't need them to be managed, just very reliable with excellent and reactive support. I have looked on the forums and cannot find any that suit my needs.
I came across this very detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to secure a Plesk based VPS. It's up-to-date and was just written so the info is accurate.
Here's the link to the full tutorial: ...
Few things I found that :
- they do not support mod_rewrite so that url cannot be rewritten or something like it
- they do not support unlimited subdomains, I do not mean actually unlimited, but 100 or 200 (eg. you allot usera.yoursite.com to some 200 or 500 members of your site) should not be a taboo, but Zeus administrator seems to think that can be a resource issue
- addition of space, currently apache hosts seem to be very liberal, and zeusbased ones not so, does zeus server typically still run on hard drives with lesser space
Anyone has any recommendation for Zeus, and if so, any recent experience with such host, who has been in business for last 8-10 years and also runs a support forum on their site where users freely communicate?
The reason for this post is some slight unhappiness with my current US-based server provider. In the last sixth months, they've upped their prices over 30%, turned my server off for 6 and 24 hours by accident on two separate respective occasions (then tried to cover it up), before finally giving me some less than brilliant customer service.
That, combined with the fact that the pound is rapidly weakening against the US dollar has led to me paying for an overly expensive server, and also leaves to me wanting to move to a different and UK-based provider.
Now, I don't need (nor can afford) a massively powerful server - the one I'm currently on is fairly basic (single core Athlon, 512mb RAM, 10mbit and a fair whack of bandwidth) - but I do need the control it provides. A VPS providing a similar amount of processing power could be considered, but obviously on the guarantee that the provider isn't overselling etc. I'd like the server to come with DirectAdmin, to simplify migration a bit.
It's also important that the UK-based provider actually has their servers in the UK, rather than just being registered in the UK - the former would still leave me rather vulnerable to exchange rate fluctuation.
Does anyone have any suggestions: either to swing me one way in the dedi/vps decision, or for some decent providers?

Does anyone know of a good email server montior or diagnostic solution that works with MailEnable? Preferably something free or cheap.
I basically want to be able to get in and see what emails were sent and received from who and the IPs if possible. I don't care about seeing the content of peoples emails but just a report similar to a telephone bill would surely help.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy dedicated server is sometimes sluggishly slow. I would like to get a grasp of its performance during a day, to get a better understanding of what's going on.
Therefore I am looking for a server performance monitoring service. All service I found so far were simply monitoring uptime (server is down / server is up). I need something more - a service that checks every 30 seconds or so the loading time of the main page.
Then it would allow me to download the data in CSV or draw a response time graph.
alternative to OMSA to monitor dell server, for now i would monitor only raid status on Pe 860-1850-195
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of purchasing a server that will monitor about 50 different servers using Nagios. It would probably just run Apache and nothing else but i was wondering if anyone has experience setting up a Nagios server just for monitoring other boxes on a network.
I'm wondeirng if this can be done. I will be monitoring a few customer servers but would like to give those customers access to Nagios and access only to their servers and nobody elses. Is there a way to setup Nagios so certain users can view their own boxes and nobody elses? Probaby setting up some type of group configuration. What about alerts? If a customers box goes down they would need to be alerted. Does Nagios allow those users to receive alerts specific to their boxes.
Not even sure how powerful the server should be. Probably a Celery or something a bit more powerful should do.
i have servers in the UK, USA and also Netherlands and Asia
Can you guys recommend a good server monitoring software program that can work with more than 1 server in different DC's
or does any one have a script that they wouldnt mind sharing/selling that can monitor and alert me on

ftp

mysql

how do you monitor the server CPU load?
Is there a script or package that you can recommend? I am looking at htop currently and want to know other alternative out there.
End of the day, I will like to have a stats that shows the sample of the server CPU load, maybe sampled over 5mins interval.

View 0 Replies View RelatedWe currently have around 45 VPS clients and dedicated servers, We are looking for a script that can be seen from the internet but requires a login, It will notify us when a server goes down or a service goes down. It will also keep track of the Bandwidth usage, etc. We can set custom names and add servers to monitor.
Is there anything like this or a Big VPS hosting company is using?
I am getting ready to purchase my own server and I need some server monitoring software.
What do you all recommend for server monitoring software?
I'm looking into setting up a server-monitoring network: small globally distributed VPS servers all monitoring another main server (currently, just one server - but I would like it to be scalable).
When it notices it can't connect to a particular service, it should check to see if the other monitoring stations also can't connect - then a "master server" should send out an email + sms alert to the designated person for that server if all servers cannot connect.
Does such an open source piece of software exist? Or do I have to start writing my own...?
What do you guys use for server monitoring?
I have been looking to find a good solution to notify me when either of my 3 servers go down. Preferably by SMS.
I have been trying [url].
But it seems to have a massive delay. from 1 hour, to 6 hours.
which company is the most reliable when it comes to server monitoring with SMS notifications.
