Sendmail Sends From Localhost.localdomain No Matter What I Try
I have these lines in sendmail.mc and I've compiled the sendmail.cf with them:
LOCAL_DOMAIN(`freesexdoor.com')dnl
MASQUERADE_AS(`freesexdoor.com')dnl
FEATURE(masquerade_envelope)dnl
MASQUERADE_DOMAIN(localhost)dnl
MASQUERADE_DOMAIN(localhost.localdomain)dnl
I have the users daemon, freesexd and root in the trusted_users file. I have restarted sendmail (using service sendmail restart). I have the domains: server.freesexdoor.com, freesexdoor.com and mail.freesexdoor.com in the sendmail's local_hosts file.
In Apache 2's httpd.conf, I have this: php_admin_value sendmail_path '/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i -f freesexd [at} freesexdoor.com'
Yet when I sent an e-mail with php to advertising [at} freesexdoor.com, I got these headers in the e-mail, which don't look good to a spam filter:
Received: from localhost.localdomain (IS-3293 [127.0.0.1])
by localhost.localdomain (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id
Received: (from daemon@localhost)

Additionally hotmail rejects my e-mails and it is obvious why. (My OpenSPF record is fine btw and on my former server I was able to send e-mails with it fine.)
Naturally I want something like "freesexdoor.com" to replace "localhost.localdomain" in those header lines. So how can I get this working?
The OS is CentOS 5 by the way.

I'm planning to buy a high end VPS for reselling as a whole. Does any one know how to change the VZ SSL to localhost.localdomain as shown in the attachment? I asked many providers and non of them like to change this. I got one provider willing to change this for me but he's not very sure how. Someone told me that "Ask your provider to study how VZPP is handled by apache in the service container and they should find his way through" I'm already aware that this should be done from the main hardware node not from the clients VPS itself.

How To Change IP Couior Sends Its Mail Out Under
My host gave refuge to a ROKSO spammer and got the C-block listed in SpamHaus and cant get it removed. So they mapped a new, clean IP to my server and I need to change the IP that my MTA is sending out under. Since I didnt set this up and the guy who did is not avaliable to me ATM, I cant seem to figure this out.

Qmail - Check Which Account Sends Emails
I have loads of spam messages being sent from my VPS and I think one (or more) of the legit email accounts are used to send spam (either someone worked out the passwords or users of those accounts have malicious software installed on their machines. How can I check which email accounts send which emails? Currently nothing is being logged by qmail (/var/log/mail* are empty).

Does Uptime Guarantee Really Matter
Just looking for opinions on uptime guarantees. Does anyone actually look at those guarantees anymore? Or is it just assumed that every host now a days is up 99.9% of the time. The reason I ask is that it appears that every host has one, but I haven't really ever experienced one myself.

We currently have two vps's one in chicago and one in dallas. We have our primary in chicago because we figured fewer hops=faster load times for website. is this really true? right now we get pings around 35-60ms to chicago and 60-170ms to dallas. does this major difference really amount to anything?

employees, owners, customers and everyone feel free to join in and tell us what you think. Do you feel that your data is safe if the company manages their own servers? By manage I mean they fully own and operate their own hardware. Or does it not matter as long as the company is a long time and known provider? Does Server Location Matter For VPS
I intend to subscribe to a VPS and I'm trying to decide whether to go with a company in the US or in my home country, Singapore (which is on the other side of the globe). Price wise, US web hosting companies beat their Singapore counterparts hands down. The prices in Singapore are easily 2.5 times that of the US (for equivalent specs). But in terms of server round trip times, Singapore is much faster for local users. (99% of my users will be based in Singapore.) A ping to a US server takes an average of 380ms, compared to 13ms for a ping to a Singapore server (from Singapore). In terms of reliability, both are the same. MY QUESTIONS: 1. Is the server round trip time really the main bottleneck (from the time the user clicks a button to the time she gets a response)? Or should I not be worried about this? 2. What is the recommended hosting option (US or Singapore), taking into consideration just two factors: price and speed?

Direct Admin: Php Mail() Only Sends Email To Certain Domains
I am currently setting up my server, and are experiencing some problems. Does support matter if there was 100% uptime and scalability? Our team has been developing scalable sites since 2004. We started renting servers from Layeredtech then, since they had good reviews and they were still good until we migrated away from dedicated server land. Although we have systems administration backgrounds, it still took time away from developing software in order to administer the servers (look over logs, backups/restores, performance graphs, hardware failure, etc). Having said that, one thing I've noticed is that customers are usually happy if servers are always running and running fast. To get rid of the systems administration part we tried Mosso (they had just released, great support but a lot of problems), we tried mediatemple's grid (also had a lot of problems), couldnt try EC2 because of persistent storage, and lastly we are currently using thegridlayer (it lags, the initial request takes about a second to display a page with no load on the server). The next things to try were VPS then managed dedicated servers. We decided to try VPSes so we can isolate sites from each other and add VPSes as needed for specific sites. So I got a zone.net and they were running fine until they had a problem mentioned here. People recommended them because they had fast servers, now is the opposite because of this one downtime. So finally, my questions: 1) how much do you think support is needed if your hosts provides fast servers and 100% uptime? 2) What measures do you take (if any) to verify the host's procedures such as backups, company size, profitability, etc? 3) How do you verify that a host is not overselling before buying a hosting package (assuming shared or VPS)?

WHM/CPanel Sends Private Key Via Clear Text Email
Why does the WHM panel send me my private key and passphrase for my SSL certificate to my inbox when I generate a CSR? Um... isn't that a bit insecure? I purchased a Rapid SSL cert from NameCheap who then needed a Certificate Signature Request(CSR) which is generated from WHM. After generating the CSR, WHM sent me an email that is literally titled 'SSL RSA PRIVATE KEY for *.<domain_removed>.com' The email not only contains the ----- RSA PRIVATE KEY----- but also my 'challenge password' . is this supposed to happen? and why on earth would my private key and passphrase be sent via unencrypted email? The only think I can think of is that the WHM panel feature is being used to generate the CSR and is sending me a self-signed cert private key , which I'm not going to use (i'm only going to use the CSR) Even if thats the case, I think it still shouldn't happen, its too confusing for newbies like me and I could just end up using the same passphrase for my actual certificate. Here are the steps I followed: 1. purchased a RapidSSL from namecheap 2. Clicked 'Activate' in namecheap's SSL dashboard which then asks me for a CSR. To get the CSR, per Site5's wiki: 1.logged into WHM 2. clicked 'Generate a SSL Certificate and Signing Request' 3. completed the 'create a new cert' form which among other things, asks me for the 'Email address the cert will be sent to'. I just installed wamp here on my laptop to set up a developer machine for my website. I am used to going into the browser and just typing in "localhost" and having it bring up the test website. Configuring Subdomains In Apache On A Localhost
I'm currently trying to configure apache 2 to handle subdomains. This is on a local machine (not tied to any domain names) and I'm only doing it to research how the final structure of a site 'could' be setup. Basically I have a single install of Apache 2 running. The outcome eventually should be to have specific sub domains that all point to the same document root as the actual domain name. So eventually I will have: http://www.mydomain.com http://subdomain1.mydomain.com http://subdomain2.mydomain.com with both subdomains showing the content at mydomain.com (there is reasoning behind this but I'm not gonna go into that). Malicious Mail Sent Out Via MailEnable On Localhost
we received a report of a malicious mail being sent from our servers. Problem is that the sender and recipients are not hosted with us. What I'm trying to find out is how the mail got sent out. The ME logs shows that the connection was made from 127.0.0.1 to the smtp service, but that's it. We don't run mail services (pop3/imap/webmail) on the web servers, if that helps any. Have run out of ideas after sifting thru lots of logs (was trying to find if anyone called an application to send the mail and attachments out), but came up empty.

Fast MySql Access- Localhost
I've been using Dreamhost for years and they're very good, but their MySql databases are quite slow. Then I moved to ServInt with a VPS, and my MySql is on localhost instead of on a different server. WOW! It's so fast! However, now I'm trying to find a shared hosting package that has fast MySQL service. I'm not sure if the requirement is that it's on localhost but it sure doesn't hurt. Bluescreen On Win XP Accessing Localhost
I just installed IIS on my Windows XP machine and any time I access localhost I get a bluescreen and my computer will restart. I have tried to uninstall IIS, reboot, re-install, reboot then try accessing localhost and that does not fix anything. This is on an almost fresh install of Windows. (The computer is only 1 week old)

Can't Connect To MySQL Server On 'localhost' (10055)
Do you guys know anything about this? My server works perfectly with INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE for mysql. but after like 12 hours later, my application crashes and I get this "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10055)" and I would have to restart my applications and everything will be working perfectly. MS Virtual PC - How To Access My Localhost (Apache) Subdomains On Guest OS?
I've just downloaded Microsoft Virtual PC and the Internet Explorer 6 Application Compatibility VPC Image containing an XP installation for testing sites with IE6 [url]. Everything works fine, I chose VPC Shared Networking (NAT) and I can access the internet from the VPC as well as my Apache development server which runs on the host OS (Win XP) by going to the host's IP address which is [url] in my case. And here I have 2 problems: 1. I want to access [url]on VPC just by typing [url]. I added the following line to the hosts file: 192.168.52.141 localhost But this doesn't work. Interestingly, any name other than localhost works fine, for example: 192.168.52.141 localhost.localhost or 192.168.52.141 local This is not a major problem but I'd prefer localhost. Any ideas how to do that? 2. And the more important issue: on my host OS I have some development sites which I have set up to be accessed by subdomains, for example [url], in httpd.conf: Code: <VirtualHost 127.0.0.3> ServerName perfekt.localhost DocumentRoot C:wwwperfekt DirectoryIndex index.php index.html </VirtualHost> and in hosts file: Code: 127.0.0.3 perfekt perfekt.localhost And now I want to access this site from my VPC too by using subdomains like this! How can I do that? The address 127.0.0.3 seems to be local to the OS and VPC can't see it. I have tried setting other IP addesses in httpd.conf but nothing outside the 127.x.x.x range works on either OS. Installed Apache Can Access Via LAN IP + Localhost But WAN IP Doesnt Work
I'm on windows vista. I've got an SDSL line into the house with a dedicated IP 62.etc. I've then got a Prestige 791R and all PC's plugged in to that. I've also got a wireless router for my Wii set up. Basically I've set up this DHCP thingy to start at 192.etc.3 and the Wireless router is at 192.etc.1 and the Prestige is at 192.etc.2 my pc is at 192.etc.9 This is about where my knowledge stops unfortunately. I have installed apache as the most basic default install I think you can and it seems to be working absolutely fine. I'm assuming I could also install PHP and MySQL etc and wouldn't have too much of a problem, however, my friend cannot seem to access the environment from the WAN IP and when I type in my WAN IP I get the prestige router's control panel. I read somewhere that I needed to forward port 80, now I can 'open' ports in the prestige control panel but I did try opening port 80 in the control panel and pointing it to my LAN IP (92.etc.9) but it didn't seem to work. I'm at a bit of a loss so if anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful, just to clarify: //localhost loads the html file 100% //192.etc.9 loads the html file 100% //62.WANIP internally loads my prestige routers control panel //62.WANIP externally does not load a page (cannot be found) If you need any more info just let me know and I'll get it.

Im trying to setup a mysql server on my centos vps server. Ive installed mysql server and done chkconfig and the mysql server has started. My problems start when i want to set a mysql root password. i have two issues: 1) I had disabled the php mail() function due to spam, but this has stopped so many hosted scripts to stop emailing their users... how do I enable that function again? 2) in a failed attempt to fix #1 (i thought it was sendmail which caused it) sendmail has stopped sending in or delivering emails... not quite sure why this happened eventhough I backed up sendmail before working on it and reverted back when i failed to resolve the issue?

I have found a bunch of articles to setup Sendmail as a mail relay, but none have been successful for me or the articles are very outdated. Sendmail Tightening
I haven't used Sendmail in a while and would like to clarify a specific setup. Suppose we have a box hosting a handful of clients, thus it is a Shared setup. Suppose we have Sendmail sendmail-8.13.1-3.3.el4 on a CentOS 4.7 Final installed with 0 extra configuration other than the default one. Such setup allows on to relay via the localhost method through php/cgi scripts or even manually through sendmail binary. Ideal setup would be one where I would have the ability to specify into a file, the usernames allowed to relay email. E.g if /etc/passwd contains user1 user2 user3 user3 baduser user6 spaminguser than ideally I'd like to pick 'baduser' + 'spaminguser' and disallow them the ability to relay through the localhost. I should not know anything about their domains or where they are sending. I've got a chroot setup and I'm currently using mini_sendmail but I'm getting: Quote: Deferred: 451-The server has reached its limit for processing requests from your host I'm assuming thats because I don't have Exim on this server, but I would like to send the mail to Exim on my mail server.

Sendmail Redirect
A spammer has sent a ton of users a phishing email requesting the users password... I work for a regional ISP, and we deal with alot of elderly people who would probably send him a response with a password... I looked over the mail log and one person did respond back to him... Basically... I want to do like... a virtusertable entry that forwards any email sent to HIM... to ME... so basically... his email is for instance: phishingspammer@gmail.com I want to do something like this in the virtusertable (I understand it probably cannot be done thru the virtusertable): phishingspammer@gmail.com goodguy@regionalisp.com This way I can alert the people who DO try to send him emails that the email was stopped and to never respond with a password.

on a sendmail issue that I'm seeing, to which both my hosts are saying "nothing wrong at this end". Some background: A few months back, I moved my XXX.com from SLHost to another host. But I forgot to remove the account in WHM at SLHost until a day or two ago. Since then, mails generated by the server (eg, from a PHP script, or the cron messages) are not getting to the XXX.com account - they're just sitting in the mail queue. You can double-check using the 'Reverse DNS Lookup' tool at the DNSstuff site if you recently changed your reverse DNS entry (it contacts your servers in real time; the reverse DNS lookups in the DNS report use our local caching DNS server). The problem MX records are: 1.132.51.209.in-addr.arpa [No reverse DNS entry (rcode: 3 ancount: 0) (check it)] ------- WARNMail server host name in greetingWARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). If your mailserver sends out E-mail using this domain in its EHLO or HELO, your E-mail might get blocked by anti-spam software. This is also a technical violation of RFC821 4.3 (and RFC2821 4.3.1). Note that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting should have an A record pointing back to the same server. Note that this one test may use a cached DNS record. XXX.com claims to be host bee.nswebhost.com [but that host is at 64.22.69.42 (may be cached), not 209.51.132.1].

I am on CentOS 4.4 64 bit, installed sendmail using yum install sendmail everything was installed. when I service sendmail start I got: Starting sendmail: 554 5.3.5 /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 265: service "smtp" unknown [FAILED] Starting sm-client: [ OK ] what does that mean? how to fix it? I just want to allow local php script sending email only. no pop3 and smtp service required.
