Script For Dedicated Hosts That Need To See Which Domains No Longer Point To Server
May 27, 2009
I'm trying to find a script of some kind that determines which domains (from a list on the box) no longer point to the server. I have to believe this exists somewhere, but with searching I'm coming up empty.
Plesk and cPanel are my targets. I could build it myself with some time, but honestly, I'm one of those guys that doesn't like to reinvent the wheel when it's already out there...even if as a paid script.

I have a client that has multiple domains, is there a way of pointing multiple domains to one server? Right now, their site is on their old server, and I was wondering how they configured it? So if you type in www.mysite.com or www.mysite2.com, each show the respective domain. (i.e. www.mysite.com/aboutus.htm is the same as www.mysite2.com/aboutus.htm) I have a (DV) with (mt). I created a cname to point to www.mysite.com (where the actual NS are pointing to) is this correct?

How can get it work this:
-Part 1-
I have a website with a doman point it (as usual) when you go to domain1.com this show you /
I need point a second domain to /domains/domain2/ using alias (the url show domain2.com but if I go to domain1.com/domains/domain2/ this render the same content)
-Part 2-
Now I need point any other domains request this server or this ip to /domains/unknowndomain/ then if you go to domain3.com or domainX.com show this domain in the url bar but render domain1.com/domains/unknowndomain/
E.g.:
domain1.com render /
domain2.com render /domains/domain2
domain3.com render /domains/unknowndomain/
domain4.com render /domains/unknowndomain/
domainX.com render /domains/unknowndomain/

Man that was a badly worded title. My question is, for example any domain parking program, all you have to do is point your domain nameservers to the nameservers of the parking company. How can I do this for me?
Sorry if it's worded a bit weird, but I want people to be able to set their nameservers to mine, and that domain would become similar to a parked domain that I'd make through cpanel. Then I'm assuming I can use a little script or mod_rewrite to configure it (for example, parkeddomain.com would be rewritten to mysite.com/redir.php?a=parkeddomain.com).
1) What are some things/terms/programs I can look into for this?
2) Is this possible on shared hosting or would I need a dedicated?

Every web hosting company I've seen has a certain amount of monthly bandwidth for a dedicated server. For example, one hosting company offers a dedicated server with 10TB of bandwidth per month.
Question is, why don't web hosting companies offer 2 monthly bandwidth options like International and Local? Local bandwidth costs alot less than International bandwidth.
So for example, a web host based in the USA should have a Dedicated server with 10TB Local monthly bandwidth and 10TB International monthly bandwidth.
Can't hosting companies detect where the dedicated server is being accessed from?

I have quite the story to tell. I have been denied service by three hosts within the past week for no particular reason.
I have been conducting business for over three years and have a US-registered legitimate business to run, and am in need of two dedicated servers of my specifications in multiserver configuration to meet my needs.
At all three of these hosts, I have chatted over live chat with the salesman getting me excited to venture with them, only to be let down and rejected service - as their own right, to refuse anyone for their service.
The first company was HiVelocity, the second was WiseDedi, and the third is BuzzServers. All companies had given me false hopes and promises - I actually put in a preorder at Buzz Servers for this upcoming Monday for two servers.
What's going on with this industry, and particularly, this forum? I've never had a problem with hosts in the past, or dedicated server hosting specifically. I'm moving, or looking to move to a new host, because I need a multiserver configuration - my current host could not configure it properly with DirectAdmin, and asked me to find another host to do this, and here I am, going back and forth between companies and getting rejected of service.
My company is not illegal nor does it represent any sort of threat, and has been online and established for years. I also pay on time via some sort of subscription, whether that be PayPal or 2Checkout, or even Google Checkout. I've never had a negative feedback, either.
I don't understand how or why this is happening, because now for the third time I've been denied by three hosts. Each and every have wasted my time by offering me their service and servers at the pricing I can afford ($350/mo), only to tell me later that the manager is denying my service.
What's going on with this industry?
Can anyone actually recommend me a solid, stable, established hosting company?
ALL of the hosts that have rejected me are brand new, unestablished, and incompetent from what I see - they reject my business. Surely I will be there to speak out against them, and for good services, I always write good reviews and testify for them.
Rob at HiVelocity banned me from their live chat support for asking about why my service was denied, and now Richard Anderson of Buzz Servers booted me from chat after I asked why as well with the answer "as a business we have the right to refuse.." - if it's not written on the website, that is not a right I believe as that is discrimination.
You'd think with someone with a good reputation like me, whose been around for years, I'd get a bit more respect than false hopes and promises, when I need a solution...now.

I just did a reverse IP lookup for my newly purchased dedicated server and found out that the domain hosts two other domains, not owned by me.
By the way, I'm yet to updated the DNS address to point to my new dedicated server.
Is this normal or I need some more clarifications from my web host?

I have a dedicated server with few hundred domains on it.
How can I automate to view all traffic stats for all of the domains in the server. Currently, I have to manually view the popular domains one by one to see the stats.
Ideally, I want to view daily visitors/per domain by a email report. Is this possible via backend script/cron job?

In my old server (VPS) I had my dir structure as:
sitea.com was pointing to
/home/me/public_html/sitea
siteb.com was pointing to
/home/me/public_html/siteb
On my new server, I have root permissions and used Plesk to create two domains sitea.com and siteb.com . Now plesk asks for a user to be created for each domain, so created usera and userb for sitea and siteb respectively.
Now as root on my server I created the dir /home/me/ and untarred the whole backup from old server to new server and I have dirs :
/home/me/public_html/sitea and /home/me/public_html/siteb
In apache configuration in file:
httpd.include_sitea under
dir /var/www/vhosts/sitea.com/conf/httpd.include
I changed the document root to /home/me/public_html/sitea
So I thought I am all set. But it does not work. When I try sitea.com in the browser it works but for all subdirs, for eg sitea.com/images it says Access denied.
This is because the dirs I created are owned by root.
So the owner of /home/me/public_html/sitea needs to be usera for this to work ?
Again for siteb to work I need to change the owner of /home/me/public_html/siteb to userb ?
This will be painful ? At least I should be able to change the owner of /home/me/public_html/ to one owner and ensure all sites under that work fine. How do I do that ?
I think the problem is clear by now. Its that I want all my sites to work off from .../public_html/ sub dirs.

do Dedicated Server hosting plans always allow for unlimited domains?"
It would be great if it was so, but I have NO idea if it is that way. My common sense says "of course stupid, you have the whole box for yourself", but my guts tell me I should know better before assuming it.

I would like to know how to delete the script/important database data on a server in case of no longer rent it.
I will cancel a server in the coming month, but there are some critical password hardcode in my script. I am afraid it's not safe if only use a command liked "rm"
However, it's seem that it's not possible for me to format the HDD or run a fill zero software.

I've been with serverpoint.com for over a year now and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Last year I negotiated an excellent price for a dedicated box with serverpoint via PM. They delivered my server promptly and even upgraded my CPU since they were out of stock on the one I had ordered. The few times I’ve had to call support (due to issues on my end) they’ve been prompt and professional.
My only real complaint is I can’t setup automatic bill pay online. They want my to send a photocopy of my CC and a photo ID, which I’m leery of.
I suppose this is a boring review, but in and ideal world isn’t that the way it should be? Who wants a lot of drama with a host provider?

I have my myname.com and I'd like to forward home.myname.com to my home server IP.
I'm running Linux and Apache on both the server I lease (that has myname.com set up on) and on my home server (hopefully home.myname.com).
So far I've tried URL rewriting in .htaccess, which works, but it fowards to my IP in the browser's address bar- Id like to keep the address bar as home.myname.com.
I assume I have to modify the DNS zone for myname.com right?
I'm using bind on the leased server

I have a dedicated
Under namecheap I point this domain using nameserver ns1.*** and ns2.***
Now I must make this:
ms1.domain.com must point to server A
ms2.domain.com must point to server B
How I can set this at best?
Setting must be maked on namecheap (manage dns under namecheap)
OR
setting must be maked on WHM?*
* x example:
www.domain.com point to server A
into server A we must define ms1.domain.com to use local
AND
must define ms2.domain.com to point external to secon server (B)

We are trying to implement a reseller model shopping website for our resellers. The customized shopping website for the reseller will be hosted on our website, say: abc.xyz.com
We want our resellers to load abc.xyz.com from their own sub domain itself, like: shopping.abc.com
I know that this can be done using a URL redirection, but is there any way that shopping.abc.com will load the contents from abc.xyz.com and still keep the URL unchanged in the address bar ? I'm not referring to URL masking using iframes and note that xyz.com and abc.com are on different servers. Does anyone know whether this is technically feasible?

whats up fellers, i'm attempting to point my design site name from whm, to my home i.p address by changing the i.p in whm dns zone editor. I'm doing this because its just so much easier to copy an ad, or web site or whatever i do to the server via my home network so the client can see the project pretty much in realtime (some ads are like 800mb) . ALSO i'm trying to set up exchange so my motorola q will have realtime email.
Anyway, so "mysite.com -A record -i.p.addy" Now the site comes up.. and i get emails.. but i cant 'send' any emails and windows server is telling me i have a non existing domain name.
so the question is am going way over my head and should i just use a service like no-ip or dyndns or can this be done?

I am using a cpanel for my site.
While I am not using the nameserver of the cpanel hosting for my site.
I am using a 3rd party DNS server to handle the DNS thing.
I directly point www/ftp/mail/... A records to my site hosting's IP address.
And everything works well.
But there is a problem, I don't know how to set up subdomain.
I created a subdomain with my site cpanel.
And it automatically created a root directory for the subdomain under /public_html. ( .../public_html/subdomain/)
But I don't know how to make the subdomain work.
How to set the DNS records to directly point my subdomain to its root directory on the hosting?
I tried to add a A record for my subdomain. But it only direct the subdomain to /public_html the main domain's root directory.
Untill now, the subdomain is still pointed to the same page as the main domain.
