Plesk 12.x / Windows :: MSSQL 2012 User Is Created Without DB Owner Role
Jan 5, 2015
After upgrading to Plesk Panel 12, when db user is created on MsSQL 2012 server, db user seems to be missing db_owner role which is causing a lot of hassle at the moment.
I was not able to locate any settings for such except for following option.
"Enable the db_backupoperator role membership for all Microsoft SQL Server database users"
Please note, this only applies to new db user created as Plesk 11.5 didn't have such problem and only seems to be related to SQL 2012 not 2008.
OS: Windows Server 2012 Standard (x64) Plesk: v11 SmarterMail: v10, v9
Plesk does not read any IP addresses from the server. I can't get past the first webspace setup page that requires a Website IP as the only thing in the list is "None".
The PR Reconfigurator tool doesn't list any IPs in the top section, yet it does list all the server IPs in the bottom right section.
I've tried re-installing Plesking, Repairing, Re-reading IP addresses, all result in the error message below about mailmng.
Neither the latest SmarterMail v10 or v9 are working.
I'm not sure if the issue is with SmarterMail not being able to populate the IP address, or if the issue is with Plesk v11 not being able to read Server 2012's IP addresses.

So, here is my setup: a newly installed Windows Server 2012. The only software installed on it beyond the operating system is Apache 2.4.7 and PHP 2.4. The computer is in a LAN behind a router. The router tunnels port 80 to port 80 in this computer.
After I set up my website, everything was working perfectly: I could see the web pages from outside my LAN, PHP was executing, accesses were logged.
Then after a couple days, I could not open the pages from outside the LAN. From within the LAN, I could open them sometimes and sometimes they wouldn't.
Some facts:
From within the server itself, I can open all pages.
If I telnet to port 80 either from within the LAN or from outside, a few times the port would answer but wouldn't serve the GET request, while other times it just does not reply.
Netstat shows port 80 binded to httpd.exe.
If I make the router tunnel port 80 to another computer in the LAN, I can serve pages from this other computer, so it doesn't seem like the router is the problem.
The server does not answer to vpn connect attempts either. It does open connections to Remote Desktop, however, even from outside the LAN (both ports tunnelled by the router).
I have tried all this both with Windows Firewall activated and not activated. I have also checked the rules, and the only rule that mentions port 80 is the one for Apache, and is set to allow all.
No error messages are reported in Apache logs.
Restarting the server did not seem to make a difference.
Since I upgraded to Plesk 12, when I create a new subscription, an IUSR account is no longer created for that website so I can grant the appropriate permissions to folders, etc.
I restored some some databases outside of Plesk in a MSSQL 2008 instance. Plesk knows about the MSSQL intance but is not aware of the databases. I want to add them to Plesk so they will be backed up.
Window server 2012 r2: I installed wordpress on a domain using plesk. Seemed to work correctly. But when I went to the site www.example.com/wp-admin, the native or default wordpress install started up. I could find no way to bypass this, so I just re-entered all the same settings.
The result was that I ended up with 2 sets of database tables, one set named with my chosen prefix wp_blahblah_ and one set prefixed with wp_blahblah_wp_.
Not good, so I deleted the later set. Wordpress seems to be working, despite one error on the tables I can't reproduce.
I have read about people wanting to change their database from MSSQL to MySQL. I however am wanting to change from MySQL to Microsoft SQL in our Plesk panel.
I have vps server with win server 2008 and Plesk 11.5.30. when i am trying to copy Mssql Database trough the panel i have an error: " Unable to copy database ". In the %plesk_dir%adminlogs under the php-error.log i have this error:
We received the following request from customer in order for his website to function properly:
Go to the control panel of your Windows Server change Regional Settings so that the default language iS Greek.
Also, change the collation of Microsoft SQL Server to Greek-Accent Insensitive-Case Insensitive.
Will these create any problems to the rest of the websites that are hosted on the server? And if no, how to change the collation of the Microsoft SQL Server?
I have an account which used a remote MSSQL server which I have since deactivated, but before deactivating I forgot to remove the DB and Server from plesk.
So now I can't remove the remote MSSQL server from plesk as there is a DB associated with it, and I can't remove the DB because it obviously can't find the remote server! I'm now stuck in a loop!
How I can force remove the DB/User from plesk and then the remote server ? I'm now receiving errors whilst backing up the account, so needs to be done.
I have Plesk 12 on Windows Server 2012 and SQL 2014 Express, and I am unable to add the SQL server to Plesk. It looks like it is waiting for a long time for something, then I get this error:
Get database server version failed: mssqlmng failed: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. (Error code 1)Click to expand...
I am using Plesk 11.5.30 Update #39. The statistics in not updating the mssql database size. It is always showing 0. I am attaching the screen shot. This account has 2 mssql 2008 database and uses 70MB. In plesk it is showing as 0 MB.
We are not able to block the account for mssql over usages.
When a reseller create a service plan themselves...is there any way to limit the CPU and memory setting for the application pool to recycle on their own created plan?
I'm looking for information about having EXTERNAL ms-sql 2008/2012 servers with MS-SQL Web Edition license connected to one or more Plesk servers.
We don't want to use the Express version coming with Plesk but use MS-SQL 2008 & 2012 (both accessible by clients if possible), on individual dedicated machines for SQL only.Of course we'd like to have all current functionality coming with Plesk Power Panel inc. backup/restore options from within Plesk.
Logged into my panel today to run a database backup on a site I'm working on to be confronted with the following:
Unable to backup database 'XXXXXXXXXX' Cannot open backup device 'C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskBackupXXXXXXXXX.co.nzdatabasesXXXXXXXXX-29 est'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
(Error code 21)
I'm not sure why permissions would change on their own, I'm also not sure how to fix the permissions error. I get the same error on all databases.
PrivateTemp folder appears to have write permissions for Group MSSQLSERVER
After some yum updates last night one user and group called xfs were created on my dedicated server. Does anyone know what this group/user is used for?
Today i setup a test environment. I have all fresh OS installs today. Management node is Centos 6.5 with PPA 11.5 update 2
I go to servers > add > choose IIS role. The Server is Windows 2012 R2, I have disabled Windows Firewall and disabled UAC, and rebooted it before trying to setup on PPA.
Enter IP and i get the following error.
Code: Automated WinRM Enabling Failed Error during WinRM enabling on '192.168.1.101'. Script exit code is 1. Script output (stdout/stderr): ERROR: Cannot open control pipe - NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER Failed to install winexesvc /
Repair Connectivity To make automated deployment possible please try to check network communications between Management and target nodes. Ensure that WMI is not blocked on a target node. Or copy, paste and invoke the following script on a target node.
However, it does create several roles in windows firewall so PPA can connect and sucessfully created X number of rules.I too disabled IPTables on management node.
How can I remove all previous web users, even after an uninstall, I am having trouble finishing a new installation, during the wizard because users already exist.
I have a problem with one of my user accounts (let's call it testuser) in Plesk. System is Windows Server 2012 R2 with Plesk 12.In the Control Panel, the customer and subscription for testuser are removed, so there should not be any data left for the domain/user.
However, when I want to create a new subscription with the username testuser, Plesk gives the error "User account already exists". I tried to manually remove the domain and took the following steps:
Code: C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskbin>customer --remove testuser An error occurred during removal of customer account: testuser does not exist
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskbin>webuser --remove testuser The web user with the name 'testuser' does not exist
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskbin>ftpsubaccount --remove testuser -do main testdomain.tld Unable to remove FTP account: Unable to find service node for web service on dom ain with id=0
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskbin>database --remove testuser An error occurred during database removal: database does not exist
As described in this topic, I logged in to the MySQL server and tried to remove the user:
Code:
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskMySQLbin>mysql -P8306 -uadmin -p[admin-pass] psa mysql> g SELECT id FROM `sys_users` WHERE login=`testuser` ERROR 1054 (42S22): Unknown column 'testuser' in 'where clause' mysql> g DELETE FROM `sys_users` WHERE login=`testuser` ERROR 1054 (42S22): Unknown column 'testuser' in 'where clause'
Also, the inetpub/vhosts directory for the user is correctly removed and therefore doesn't exist. Are there any other steps I can take to remove the user manually and so be able to recreate the user?
Basically what I want to do is to change the "From: "email address for system user "Plesk Administrator" when sending the automated notification with subject "Parallels Panel Scheduler notification". Where would I do this?
I've been paying $160 a month for a dedicated server that runs my web application and my mssql 2008 database.
Due to the economic times, I've been searching for a cheaper alternative... This gets me thinking... Wouldn't this be a good business plan for VPS companies?
Include 4-5 databases on a extreme, high-performance MSSQL server for all windows vps.
I know there are current setups like this, but no host really emphasizes the power of their mssql server. If they show how their db server is extremely fast, customers would be less likely to try and run their own express version on the vps. Thereby decreasing ram/cpu load on the vps, and increasing the overall efficiency of the dedicated server running the vps'.
Are there any hosts that currently market like this? If not, why don't you?
I've got MSSQL 2005 Enterprise running on Windows 2003 Standard R2 x64. The server has 12GB RAM.
Now, I've been trying to find some way to monitor how much RAM MSSQL takes up, but found two conflicting things.
One source says that MSSQL 2005 Enterprise can only use up to 4GB RAM on Windows Standard R2 x64. Another says Microsoft changed this to 32GB for Windows Standard R2 x64 only (i.e. not x86).
Could anyone confirm either of these? I'd find out myself if I knew how I could see how much it's using (it only shows 90mb in taskmanager).
How can i reset the owner state of the files in file manager. right now some files have the ROOT as owner. I know with DirectAdmin there is a Reset owner feature. But this is cant find in Plesk.
apparently Envelope-From, Sender and Errors-To headers are set to a wrong address for messages from mailman to the list-owner. This is particularly true for mails like 'message requires approval'.
It seems like the plesk<->mailman magic results in all list-domains being written to the end of /var/lib/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py in the following format: add_virtualhost('list.DOMAIN').This in return results in mail headers Envelope-From, Sender and Errors-To of mailman system mails like described above being set to mailman-bounces@DOMAIN, where DOMAIN is the one from the last add_virtualhost entry.
In my opinion, this obviously is a bug. Maintainance mails from mailinglists have wrong headers set, often with a domain that belongs to a completely different customer than the mailinglist.
I found the following discussion on mailman-users mailinglist from 2008 which discusses the same issue - also a plesk setup: URL....
