I'm new to Private Virtual Server and the package offered by different company are quite confusing.
I was on RackForce and their basis VPS package dds200-L can host 100 domain names on Plesk and unlimited domain names on WHM/Cpanel.
On 1and1 it didn't say if Plesk support 100 or unlimited domain names. My question is, do we always have the liberty to host unlimited domain names on our PVS?
Can anyone recommend a good VPS hosting company?

I just did a reverse IP lookup for my newly purchased dedicated server and found out that the domain hosts two other domains, not owned by me.
By the way, I'm yet to updated the DNS address to point to my new dedicated server.
Is this normal or I need some more clarifications from my web host?

Having a reseller account(didn't need it, but was talked into it originally), on the average how many domains should I expect to be hosted on one IP? Right now I show 466 for my IP. This is more for curiosity at this point than anything.

I'm trying to figure out how many domains and subdomains I can get with each plan from Network Solutions, Enom and Yahoo. Is there any set standard of number of subdomains per domain? Network Solutions gives you one domain for two of their plans, three for the third, but says nothing about subdomains...

I can't resolve hosted domains on ssh or via php on my server. All of other domains fine when i dig or ping but mine is not.
I did run fix scripts for dns and restarted named but result is still same.
Also, when i try to reach one of my domains via php's fsockopen function, i get "65 No route to host" or "68 Too many users" error.

I have a VPS with cPanel/WHM where I am also running the MailScanner package as an anti-virus/anti-spam solution.
I would like to extend this service to clients who are satisfied with their web and email hosting but not with their spam control solution. That is, I would like MailScanner to process their email before it reaches their server. I believe this can be done by changing the MX records of the external domains to point to the mail server on my VPS.
The problem is, I don't know if I should put host.myhostname.com (my VPS hostname) or my IP address in their MX records. Also, to make MailScanner process their emails, I need to add their domains to my MailScanner configuration at etc/localdomains, but I assume that also means I have to create a mail-only account for the domain in WHM?

I'm now with a bit of a problem on my server. I tryied to add a new domain and I haven't counted how many domains I had on my server because I was thinking that plesk would warn me if I was reaching my limitation of domains, so I added a new one...
My license was for 10 domains, and now I have 11 domains so I'm getting an error when I enter my plesk panel. The error basically says that I exceeded the number of domains of my license so I have to buy a new one.
The problem is that when I want to click on the cancel operation button on the bottom of the page I'm constantly being logged out and I cannot cancel the operation, so I'm in a loop right now: "Log in -> get error -> Cancel -> Automatic log out -> Log in"
What can I do to delete one domain completely from my server?

i have a vps and although i can send mails without problem from my main root account, sending via any of the child accounts created for customers results in their email being picked up as spam (in hotmail at least).
To clarify, mydomain.com is my main name. Email can send without problem,
customersdomain.com, hosted on the same machine, when sending emails they are picked up as spam. The mx dns entries in the zone file are set (by default to) customersdomain.com. and for all the child domains customer1domain.com. etc.
Do i need to ask the datacenter to add a reverse dns entry for mail.mydomain.com?
Is this an issue with the mx records for the hosted domains? Should i change the hosted domaims mx entry on the customers domains to mail.mydomain.com?
I know the ip isnt blacklisted because exactly the same email goes through when sending from the mydomain.com email addresses.

I have somewhere at 2000 domains.
I need to change path to vhost from W:host to D:vhost
I copied all files from W to D drive and created symbollinks. Now all files stored in D:vhost and symbollincs pointing to W:vhost.
If I will use reconfigurator, will it recopy existing files or just will skip them? Because I have millions files in my vhost dir
Also i thought about change drive letter in windows OS. It wil be enough to just stop IIS service and plesk services for switching disk letter?
Can i just some how say plesk that he should search all vhost files in D:vhost? With out process of copying files, becouse thay already exist there are.

My Plesk panel (11.5.30) hosts a number of domains that all use Google Apps for Business to host their emails. No emails are hosted on the panel, and the mail server is turned off. So is the DNS server.
Using the mail() php function to send automatic confirmation emails from a website hosted on the panel, they arrive at any address NOT hosted locally, however they fail to arrive at any address whose website is locally hosted.
My initial research suggested that Plesk was routing locally, hence the problem, however the mailserver has been turned off the for domain/webspace.

As I have never used cPanel neither have whatsoever experience with control panels, in the process of ordering a couple of new server I am wondering what's the average recovery time after a server failure which involves data (ie. disk failure).
I am interested to understand this, because I need to choose between hardware raid or backup disk.
For example, at LiquidWeb (this is just one of the many managed providers i am evaluating) you can pay the same server 264$ with 2x250 hardware raid 1, and 219$ with 2x250 simple hard drives, where the second one is supposed to be a backup drive.
I am yet to ask, but on this servers most likely (at this prices) they do not have hot swappable disk drives where they can rebuild the array "live", so also if i choose raid hardware, in case of a disk failure, i face a downtime to bring down the server, rebuild the array, bring on the server, which I guess is something not less than 30-60 minutes downtime.
The advantage of this solution is that a disk failure keeps the system running, so you can schedule a maintenance window to replace the disk and rebuild the array, I guess.
On the other side, relying on a backup disk (and of course rsyncing data to an offsite server, i would do this anyway) you save 45$ each month, and disks after all do not fail every month.
If the main disk fails, they need to replace the disk, install again the server with what I suppose being a standard image (so let's figure a couple of hours, as they have a 30min hardware replacement sla), then you need to restore backups (which in my case are something like 20gigs). So I guess, on an average, it would take something like 4 hours downtime.
Am I correct ?
What would you reccomend as a solution with cpanel, taking into account the huge price difference ? Backup drive or Hardware raid ?
This would be for a single big website, not a hosting-company with resellers and customers environment, so I would value more the monthly saving, rather than the high availability, but of course I am interested to know what is the average time to recover a cpanel server after a drive failure.
Besides I have also another question, as I have never had a colocated server with raid hardware, so i do not know anything about this.
When a drive fails in a raid1 hardware environment, how the hosting provider gets notified ? I suppose it's not a led on the server to blink, as no one would see it.
So if you have software raid (like my computer at home) you get an email from mdadm with "warning, array degraded", so you know it quick and you can check it anytime doing a ' cat /proc/mdstat '. What about hardware raid?
My fear is that nobody notices my raid1 drive failure, the server keeps going on just a drive, then maybe the other drive fails, and it would be unpleasant: while a single drive failure would be obviously very easy to spot for me.

I've tried the uptime ssh command but that only shows how many users are currently connected to the server via ssh. Does anyone know a command to show how many active http connections there are? I'll use php to run the command and print it to the users browser so they can see how many users are on each server. Very similar to what gamershell do.

is there any sort of ssl certificate that will 'secure' any domain, hosted on a single server?
For example, I have the following domains and subdomains:
google.com
test.google.com
mywebsite.com
hello.example.com
All will be hosted on the same server (same IP) and I want all to be secured, through a SIGNED certificate, not a self signed. I assumed that wildcard ssl would be fine for this, but I just took a look and it's only for subdomains: example.example.com hello.example.com.
Is there any way of having every subdomain and domain secured, using ssl, through one certificate? I don't want to have to buy individual certificates for every domain, that'd be... expensive.

I'm new to fcgid on Windows. my current set up is as follows;
Windows Server 2008
Apache 2.4.4
PHP 5.3.27 (fcgid)
MySQL 5.6.14
1. Looking at windows task manager, each of my processes have 4 threads each. What does this mean?
2. Does the number of FcgidMaxProcesses x memory_limit = Total amount of memory required?
3. Number of Threadsperchild = number of FcgidMaxProcesses ?
I just want to know how these two work together.

My server hosted with 1and1.co.uk (and therefore in Germany) has been down since 6PM UK time (20 hours ago) - support is just excruciatingly bad - the structure they have set up to make sure the actual datacentre people aren't customer facing is atrocious... you can't speak to anyone who knows anything, it's so frustrating.
I'm writing this to ask if anyone else has a root server in Germany as the latest fob off is that a router CPU has gone down knocking all those root servers offline. I'm surprised to not have seen any other threads from disgruntled customers if that were the case. They even added the router is in Canada... which begs the question - why would that knock out my German server??
My server isn't even accessible by the serial console and the reboot/recovery system isn't restoring it - they swear it's network related, but surely I'd be able to get in via the serial console?
This is winding me up good and proper, I can't concentrate on any other work and I just find myself trying to find other ways of getting any kind of real information out of 1and1 given their complete lacklustre attitude to coming forward with any themselves. 1 hour of downtime I can put up with, 20 hours without a hint of belivable feedback is just unacceptable...

Why I am getting this even when mail server is hosted with Google? Need help
WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). If your mailserver sends out E-mail using this domain in its EHLO or HELO, your E-mail might get blocked by anti-spam software. This is also a technical violation of RFC821 4.3 (and RFC2821 4.3.1). Note that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting should have an A record pointing back to the same server. Note that this one test may use a cached DNS record.
