How much Notice do I need to give nocster/burst before cancelling?
Not ready to cancell just yet but probably will be at the end of next month. (Moving to co-lo and as i'm in the UK burstnet's datacenter would be a bit far to travel so Won't be using them for Co-lo)
Couldn't find mention of the minimum notice period on their site.
It had an Abuse Incident over the last 24 hours and missed the deadline they gave to clean it up. Being in Australia the time differences can make it difficult to always catch an Abuse Incident. Anyway so the server is disconnected and we have to pay a reconnection fee, ok fair enough.
As soon as the server went offline I became aware of the issue and contacted their support.
They said I need to pay the Abuse Invoice, so I said ok and went to my Client Area and there was no Abuse Invoice. So I tell the technician that there is no invoice in my account, he says, oh ok there must be a billing problem and passes it over to "Customer Service".
Hours later there is still no response from customer service and my server is still offline.
I shouldn't have my server OFFLINE while waiting for them to sort out their billing problem. Them getting their Abuse Invoice paid is NOT A TIME CRITICAL matter.
A server outage is a TIME CRITICAL MATTER.
Here I am still waiting and nothing is being done, my server is still OFFLINE. I have no problem paying the Abuse Invoice, but the server outage just goes on and on because they can't seem to generate the Abuse Invoice that they require me to pay.
I am new to VPS and am trying to get my head around it. What I am trying to figure out now are the pros and cons of Guaranteed and Burstable memory.
Assuming everything else is equal, and both options are in the budget, and that there is a requirement (at least at times) for more than 768mb of RAM, which option is better:
1152mb Guaranteed (SLM)
or
768mb Guaranteed / Burstable to 2048mb
Obviously, a big factor would be whether or not their is RAM available to burst to, and as I understand it, that is completely dependant on the server, other VPS's running, number of VPS's, etc.
However, what I am trying to figure out is which approach is typically better. If for the same money you can get 768mb w/2048mb burst or 1152mb SLM w/no burst which is the best option.
If my current requirements are important, then I listed them in a thread titled: "If I go with VPS would vB performance suffer greatly if I add multiple sites to VPS?"
I can't truely link to it, because I have less than five posts, but here is a quote of that thread, so you can hit the button in the quote to go there:

I got a new server from Nocster today with a 80GB drive. Went to look at my fee disk space and I notice the largest partition is only 48GB... yuck. Then I noticed the way they partitioned the drive:
This is definately something I'm not used to. Putting all these things on seperate partitions like that is really going to make it difficult for me to utilize all my disk space. On every other server I've had, all the free space was under / with partitions just for /boot and /dev/shm. Is there anyway to fix this without reinstalling the OS?
Well I ordered a nocster server about 12 hours ago, received the billing authorisation form (im a new client) and completed that scanned it along with id and utility statement and emailed it back to the auth address etc.
I'm yet to receive an email or anything accepting it and im just a little concerned that it didnt get through due to being a large email with attachements etc.
So my question is...how long does it usually take for billing to approve you and do they send you an email stating as such?? Also how long till server delivery on average?
I know that actual server delivery can take up to 5 days etc, im just interested on the average.
First of all I have to admit that I saw all the negative reviews for this provider and yet due to responses where they claim to have new management and that these were isolated incidents I decided to try their service. HUGE MISTAKE.
I ordered a Windows VPS with Plesk.
Let's start with the initial setup/billing process. After signing up on the site and picking all my options I'm directed to make a payment; however, at no time did I receive a running total from the site itself. This strikes me as an incredibly simple thing to provide the customer and is just one of the many examples where you could claim that these individuals are not detail oriented. Regardless, I'm not incapable of adding together the cost myself.
One of the first things I noticed was that any of the Plesk interfaces were not available remotely. So I submitted a ticket to get this issue resolved.
>>Since receiving the VPS I have been unable to access the >>control panel remotely. This includes the url provided with my >>initial email [url] and the plesk >>control panel found at ([url]. Windows >>firewall was initially disabled and has remained so at this >>time.
>>Any assistance you could render in this matter would be >>appreciated.
>>Thank you, >>ZenDraL
My first response was just that my ticket was reassigned to a "Senior Windows Support representative to better assist you".
I shudder to think of the assistance I would have received otherwise, since I consider the assistance that I received to be seriously under par.
Two days later I receive the following response from the "Senior Representative":
>>Hello,
>>You should be connecting to your VPS with remote desktop.
>>The VZPP and VZCP only provide limited features, and are unstable at this time.
>>Please use remote desktop instead to configure your server.
>>If you are having problems accessing it with remote desktop, please let me know.
>>David M. Stein
I have no idea how he received the impression that I was attempting to use RDP via the Plesk CP.
After finally getting the representative to understand what is plainly stated in the original email I am told that I have not purchased Plesk and asked if I would like to purchase it again. Personally I'm appalled at the fact that this individual would be unable to correctly ascertain what I had in fact purchased. After sending in another reply including the contents of my bill the technician is finally willing to concede that indeed I had paid for Plesk.
So we're now 6 days into this ticket when I'm told that this is an issue with the latest version of Virtuozzo.
After 15 days of silence from them, I request an update as to the status only to be told: "Evidently this is some sort of new bug with the latest version of Virtuozzo 4.0, and Parallels/Swsoft is still investigating the issue. "
Then 8 more days of silence from them before I decide to cancel my service and try out somebody new.
On top of this my site loaded incredibly slowly from every connection that I and others tested it from. Performing speed tests I saw that my server was only uploading at 50 KB/s.
If you are considering purchasing services from Burst.NET or Nocster the only thing I could recommend is to avoid them like the plague.
I've attached a full copy of the transcript should anyone want to see it for themselves.
I have sent a DMCA notice to softlayer because I saw warez forum thats abusing USA laws and they are giving away lots of hacked rapidshare accounts to its users. So I have made my complaint but I didnt said what infringed my copyrights. And softlayer can see the warez site and decide them selves.
So this what I got in reply after 2 weeks-
Quote:
Please review our DMCA procedures which follow the OCILLA. Also note, the sworn statements and all other information listed on our DMCA page are not only required but mandatory for any DMCA report. This will allow you to specifically identify the intellectual property that you own and is being infringed upon, which is required by law.
There are many verified third party DMCA/COPYRIGHT agencies who act on behalf of the intellectual property holders who can verify and submit these claims on behalf of the intellectual property owners. This will insure that legally, the intellectual property owner and the ISP is protected in the event of an account termination.

And they didnt took any actions against that site and what I see is that warez site is operating till now on softlayer servers. Looks like softlayer didnt warned the site admins too. 1 month passed after my complaint and its still operating.
I design Web sites for clients, and also am a hosting reseller. The problem I'm having is selling all these hosting packages, but I don't know when their hosting package expires, except for periodically logging in and checking the setup date. I am currently using hostgator with the whm (WebHost Manager). Is there a way to set it up for 1 year and have it e-mail me when an account is about to expire, or is there some really cool database program elsewhere that I can use to help facillitate all these Web hosting packages?
One of the sites I help run has 1.5 million pages of parts that can be ordered and information about those parts. We started seeing a ton of hits at around 20-30 pages per second over the past couple days.
There is no information about them on the internet and they are also masking as GoogleBot.
Be on the lookout as I am pretty sure they are trying to steal content and post it up for search results. They are using Amazon EC2 servers to do it also.
This is how they are identifying themselves: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Adtuitionbot/1.0; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)"

In a 24 hour period, we blocked 408,821 requests from them.
I am in the process of fighting a Hosting company on a dedicated server. It was turned off without notice a couple of months ago. They said I had not paid last years bill for this server (10 months ago). When I sent them the paypal confirmation number from last year finally they agreeed but said I owed an inflated 2008-2009 bill. The first bill I got was when the server was suspended. The bill increased over 20%. In order to get my clients back online I paid the increased bill but sent the initial price guarantee and asked for a refund of the difference. What I got was a half apology and the double talk below. I switched hosting companies and asked for a pro-rated refund and even though the server is paid up until Sept 2009 they have suspended the server. I am going to leave the hosting companies name out.
"Dear Mark,
As explained by Tom, the amount you paid is the amount that was due.
Since you originally purchased your server, our costs have risen by approximately 46%. The increase in price for your server only represents approximately 16%. While in the past, we have been able to absorb price increases and not pass them along, unfortunately, on this occasion we had no choice but to pass along part of the increase - the increase applied is just over half the increase we have personally seen since the start of this year. We have been able to keep the increase low through additional cost savings and reducing our profit margins, but, there is a limit to that and we unfortunately hit with the latest increase we've been hit with.
The issue with your server earlier this month was due to human error. We do not have any due invoices from 2007 (any unpaid would have been passed to collections), and as we are human, have gotten into the habit of simply looking at the day and month. One of my billing staff members alerted me that your invoice was overdue, believing it was a 2008 invoice due 1st August 2008 and requested that I authorise a disconnection. I then looked at it and also missed the 2007 date. Tom unfortunately does not have full access to billing details and cannot correct (nor view) errors such as that.
In terms of the invoicing - the system expected a recurring payment, through the Paypal subscription, to occur automatically and this is why no invoice was generated. As your invoice last year was manually paid, there was no subscription to update and pay. As a result, I had to manually update your account to reflect the payment details and manually generate the invoice. The invoice in your account when you paid the invoice correctly reflected the $1274.20 value. One of the emails quoted above, which should have been received after the emailed invoice, stated "generated the correct invoice for the 2008 to 2009 billing period.". I am sorry if that wasn't clear enough.
I really do not want to mention the name of the hosting. I have been with them since the beginning of 2007.
My VPS was shut down about 15 hours ago because there might be a problem with the recurring payment. Actually I was informed that the payment has been processed and approved successfully last week. And there is no any email telling me that there is problem with the recurring payment.
I have been asking their support to re-start my VPS first but they said this is the sales issue. It has to be handled by the sales. Just waiting....... waiting..... Very disappoint!
Will you shut down the VPS of your customers without any prior notice?
I just got a notice from Leslie at Colo4Dallas that they are raising their rates by 20% effective June, 2007. Did anyone else get this notice yet today? And in order to get the lower price (20% increase), I will have to sign a 12 month contract. So for example, my 1/2 rack will go from $399 to $478, or if I choose to stay month to month, the new rate will be $600.

CANCEL & RECYCLE FOR STOCK IMMEDIATELY PER MIGRATION FOR SERVER
My server suddenly get canceled because of the migration. It was more than 24 hours since it happen. I did not get back my server and my data. Does any LT customer get the same problem ?
I try to leave a message on their phone and trouble ticket system, but I don't get and response so far.
First of all excuse me for my bad english. My native language is spanish. All times on this thread are GMT -5.
On March, 19th, I ordered a VPS with WiredTree - one month using this promo. WT service is pretty good but unfortunately response times from their datacenter to my country (Peru) was terribly bad in sometimes. I open a support ticket to ask about this situation but WT technicians told me that there was no any problem at their side and it should be probably an issue with my ISP.
Since I never had an issue like this with my old provider and having in account that very low response times have been occurring only when I visit my site and not any other site, then I decided to move back to my old provider.
So, according to their TOS:
Quote:
Account Cancellation
Client must submit service cancellations by opening a ticket through our client portal at least 7 days but not more than 30 days before the end of the service's billing cycle. Cancellation requests are not accepted through phone, email, fax, or any other method besides through opening a ticket through our client portal. You must have all account information to cancel an account. Only the authorized account holder may cancel the account.
In the event of cancellation, customer will automatically be billed for any excess bandwidth usage during the then-current monthly billing cycle.
I open a billing ticket: (13 Apr 2009 15:07)
Quote:
Hello,
Please mark my account for cancellation. I'll not renew my VPS. You can cancel it when my current billing cycle expires (19th).
Thank you, Jonathan
Well. I have done what their TOS says. Nothing more to discuss.
However at April, 28th, my card was charged for the amount of US$49.00 (April billing cycle). Why they charged my credit card if I already requested account cancellation? I dropped an email to billing asking about this issue.
What WT says? (28 Apr 2009 15:55)
Quote:
Hello,
It looks like the account cancellation was never followed up on since we requested a confirmation for the cancellation of the account in the last email. It also looks like you were trying to request the cancellation outside of the requirements of the Terms of Service. We can schedule the cancellation for the end of this billing cycle. Please, let me know if you have any questions about this.
Thanks, Jacob
So I reply: (28 Apr 2009 16:15)
Quote:
Hello Jacob,
I'm very disappointed about the way how you want to manage this issue. It isn't as easy as you think: "We can schedule the cancellation for the end of this billing cycle". No! I want to get my money back to my card, it's my right.
What do you mean when you say "It also looks like you were trying to request the cancellation outside of the requirements of the Terms of Service"?
Thank you, Jonathan
Then I got: (28 Apr 2009 17:03)
Quote:

I will speak to my supervisor to see if there is anything that can be done about this. I will be able to get back to you about this tomorrow.
> What do you mean when you say "It also looks like you were trying to request the cancellation outside of the requirements of the Terms of Service"?
We require a 7 day notice of cancellation prior to the end of the billing cycle. The account renews on the 19th, so the last date of service is the 18th and the request would have needed to be made on the 12th, at the latest. As I mentioned above, I will speak with my supervisor about this and see if there is anything that can been done. Expect a reply to this tomorrow. If you have any questions in the meantime, please, let me know.
Thanks, Jacob
And WT's final position: (29 Apr 2009 13:53)
Quote:
Hello Jonathan,
I'm sorry for the delay in response. I have spoken with my supervisor and he has reviewed this ticket. He told me if the cancellation had been confirmed, we could have proceeded even though the request was made a day late, but since there was no confirmation we cannot reverse the payment now because the server has been online for the past 10 days. We can proceed to cancel the server at the end of this billing cycle. Please, let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks, Jacob
So I have been charged for a service that I requested to be cancelled. I haven't using their VPS anymore after my first month with them finished. Why are they charging me?
I feel that the 'trick' is in the confirmation request. WT's position is understandable at some point of view however they need to understand that in their TOS it doesn't says that people should reply with a confirmation to the cancellation request. In fact, what you can ask after a client had requested account cancellation could be ignored. Account cancellation request is sent when someone has decided to not continue being your client.
After I canceled my server with these guys two weeks ago now they are saying they never received cancellation and keep sending me invoices. One of them is for like $300 for "non-payment penalty". Can you believe this guys? And I was a customer for like 2 years too. They won't get a cent more from me.
After being extremely dissatisfied with Virpus VPS hosting I decided to cancel my account with them 2 days ago. I opened a billing ticket requesting cancellation of my account and got a reply asking why. I responded and I have not heard back from them since. There is no cancellation confirmation and I can still log on to my account.
I've tried calling during the past 2 days but I only get a voicemail. Yes, that's right... voicemail everytime I call for the past 2 days. I've had no choice but to contact my credit card company and inform them that I no longer authorize Virpus to place any charges to my account.
Has anyone else tried to cancel an account with Virpus and have the same thing happen?
If yes, what did you have to do to get the cancellation to go through?
I have a dedicated server with a provider. They have a notice period of 30 days, to cancel the server. The billing date of the server is 13th of every month.
I sent them the cancellation form on 30th of last month, asking them to terminate the server by 1st of next month (thereby 30 days notice). But they say that they will bill me on this 13th for another full month, and they'll cancel the server only on 13th of next month! WTF? So, the notice period becomes 43 days!
I have never experienced something like this with other providers I'm using but just wanted to know..
Recently the Apache recompailed with eAccelerator after that the below error log has created and also the Apache got crash when reach high traffic.
[notice] child pid 13013 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) [notice] child pid 13054 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)
Due to this problem I ran the /scripts/upcp --force and again recompailed the Apache with eAccelerator.
later the signal Segmentation fault error not created but instead of above error the following error has been creating. And also again recompailed the without eAccelerator still the below error creating.
I just signed up for GoDaddy's Economy Plan for one year...but I guess I should've read the reviews it's getting here first
If I end up not liking this, can I cancel my service with GoDaddy and not have to pay for the remaining 11 months?(I'd only have to eat about 4 bucks for the one month)...
Or is there a way I can change from one year down to one month without a charge?
My friend wanted to move from virpus as he was having some issues, he mentioned all his reasons in the ticket and asked for the refund amount which was already existent in the virpus account, which he had paid them much earlier.
There was no reply to his ticket even after 2 days .. So, he asked me to send an pm to Ken, haven't got reply from Ken either.
Recently, the sales dpt, replies haven't been up to the mark at virpus , their tech support still sounds good though,
Never expected this longer delay virpus - Ken, its almost 4 days since the ticket has been created and submitted to you,
sorry for creating a ticket, but u have left no other choice, as I neither got reply from mr.Ken in the past 2 days nor there was a reply to the support ticket.
I am wondering if anyone else has had problems with [url] with regards to closing there account? I was able to get the account canceled, quickly, but they are still billing me. Support tickets to there billing department go unanswered and conveniently get closed after 128 hours.
Never ever go for gigenet.com if you want a dedicated server. Here is the story:
I needed a VPN access to their infrastructure and asked to their sales if this is possible with them, because i loved it with softlayer. They said yes. 1 week after i ordered a bargain basement server to see their service quality and so. After i got my server and instructions to login to server and their client portal, i realized that there was no VPN available for me. After a few days of talks with their sales and techs along with a cancelation request, they confirmed to make it available for me.
They opened up a vpn access and a put a nic card on the box. Everything was dealed and was going good. Then i recieved an email from gigenet sales Brandon Hale that they processed my cancelation request and pulled the server offline immidiately (at the begining of the month where i paid for full month) and they cant refund me my money.
Gigenet is an epic fail. Here is a list of reasons:
1) Sales and Techs have lots of communication problems.
2) Sales promise all the things but never make it happen after you order the things.
3) Their infrastructure is very unfriendly. You get like four different passwords for each interface you get. one for support one for portal one for vpn, etc etc...
4) They cut off the connection immidiately when you place a cancelation. They dont even wait for the remaining days for the month.
my conclusion is, if you really in need of a quality service just go for softlayer.
This post is not a bump up post for Softlayer but SL is the win.
a bit over a month ago i ordered a dedicated server from vectoral servers and it said they are usually online within 24 hours but to give them up to 72 hours. so i waited and after 4 days i ordered another server from another company which came online in 12 hours. so i emailed vectoral asking them to cancel the order and refund my money.
i got no response.
6 days after ordering the server i received an email from vectoral with details of the server. i then sent them another email saying please dont bill me again, i have no use for the server now and just cancel it.
again i got no reply and now i have seen they have just charged my card again. so now im being forced to do a chargeback, complaint to visa and the merchant processor and try to get them blacklisted off my card or i might even need to order a new credit card.
be very careful this company chooses not to respond because of their horrible customer service they seem to be very desperate for money even to the point of outright credit card fraud.
i will update this with the results of my chargeback, hopefully it will tip the limit on their merchant account and they will lose it.
