SIM 2.5-3 <sim@r-fx.org> 05/29/07 21:35:15
If I have a company watching my integral services, do I need SIM? Are there benefits to keeping it and having outsourced monitoring alongside it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat is a difference between Network Operation Center and Data Center?
As I understood, DC is a physical location of computers while NOC is somewhat abstract term. It means servers, routers, wires, switches and all other equipment.
What is the best data center to rent a server from? I don't need a managed server I can admin and secure it remotely.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy server provider is moving my server to a new data center, I am going to keep my data on it.But I am going to be assigned two new IP's.I have a Centos server with WHM and CPanel.
tell me exacly on which file on my server i need to configure my two new IP's, is changing them on WHM enough? Do I have to edit the DNS zone for each domain?.
Does anyone know the secret behind the server configuration of the big boys in hosting who offer as much as 1.5TB webspace and $15TB bandwidth or even unlimited for less than $10/month? I want to offer such a high webspace at less than $10/month too.
I want to know the exact server configuration in terms of hard drives/accessories that can make this possible and very reliable data centers where I can co-locate the servers with unmetered bandwidth too.
The estimated cost of the hard drives/accessories and any other associated costs should be stated clearly.Linux/Unix platforms preferred.The DC should be ready to do the configuration and the cost would not leave a serious dent on my financial resources.
i want to monitor my server. i try mrtg buti cant install it. so how can i monitor my server?

Is there any script or program that can ping or load a page from a server on a regular basis to check if the server is still running?
For example using a shared hosting server B to ping dedicated server A to see if A is still running. Else B will send a email to the sys admin. Something along this line.
I've recently found (last 6 weeks) that the performance of my client's websites on my trusted host's servers isn't how it used to be and/or how it should be. The download seems to take way much longer than before. So far it hasn't resulted in a significant drop in average pageviews per unique visitor but it might do if things continue. The host claims a number of attacks on the mailserver and an unusually high load at one point in time. Above all it's just annoying - isn't reliable server performance what can be expected from a reputable host?
Here's the question: what's the best way of monitoring online how the web and mail servers are performing so that I can take this report to my host and urge them to take (more) action? Ideally I'd like to compare this with a seperate web server that I use for another client. I don't mind spending a little bit of money but high subscription fees are not in my budget.
What are the parameters, other than the tcp services(http,smtp,ping,dns,mysql), would you monitor on a server/vps to ensure its smooth running(free mem,disk usage,user_beancounter etc...)? if any, what is the monitoring tool/and the plugin that you use?
View 5 Replies View Relatedif there is a good software for linux servers.. basically I just want to recieve a carbon copy to my email address of any mail that gets sent from my server.. any mail sent whatso-ever, via php or however it gets sent, basically a catch-all.
I am worried about spammers using my server to send mail.
Is there a simple server monitor tool that can monitor the status of a server and preferably produce a nice graph?
I am using ubuntu linux 8.04
in the direction of a S.M.A.R.T client for Windows Server 2008 that matches as many of the following as possible:
- Lightweight
- Free
- Quite good
I'm not looking for one that hooks into explorer or even runs all the time. Something that runs periodically (shceduled task) and polls information, mailing / popping up an alert if it finds a problem.
Basically something like the smartmontools for Linux / unix.
Are there any tools out there that can monitor the uptime of my server (of my websites)?
Maybe an application that keeps pinging it throughout the day or some type of web-service?
I have a dedicated P4 1GB RAM Linux/Apache Server with several Joomla/WordPress and PHP scripts running...
sometimes it gets stuck making the sites not available.
I'd like to know what process is killing the server, is there a script I can install on it so I have a better clue of what's going on?
IS there a way to monitor all outgoing mail on a shared server
enviroment.
I want to know who my employees are sending mail to.
I set smtp to the host instead of ISP but is there a method
or script that can track the mail sent out.
Is there an open source alternative to this add on

View 17 Replies View RelatedI had a linux server (CentOs 5, mysql5, php5, directadmin). I had problems with apache few days ago, that's why i hire sys. admin who tweak the system (install the PAE kernel), and some more configurations, and during last 7-8 days server work w/o any downtime (before this server had 1-2 downtimes per day-> OOM killer.)
Now i had only ssh access (emails, directadmin access - give "wrong password" answer). As told my sys.admin It became read only system.
I cann't even reboot system
Quote:
[root@server sa]# reboot
reboot: /usr/local/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)
such few commands work, the most commands that i know don't work
Quote:
[root@server ~]# ls -la
ls: error while loading shared libraries: libacl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have always used debian on my virtual machine but was just curious as to what OS people use for their hosting?
The company I am looking at moving to for hosting offer the following options:
* Debian
* Ubuntu Server
* Open Suse
* Free BSD
* Fedora Core
* CentOS
* Gentoo
* Slackware
* Windows 2003 Basic
* Windows 2003 Pro
I have heard from a lot of people that Freebsd is good for hosting but just wondering what your views are
to get a dedicated sql server 2005 box and am not sure the best operating system. These are my choices:
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise - 32 bit
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise - 64 bit
Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise - 32 bit
Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise - 64 bit
This is the server I'm thinking of getting -
Dual Woodcrest Series - SATA Dual Intel Woodcrest 5130 Dual Core Processors 2 x 500GB Hard Drive 4096 MB RAM
Currently, I have my IIS web server and sql server 2005 on the same machine and it's just too bogged down. That one runs windows 2003 standard 32 bit on a Dual Xeon 2.8GHz Processor 2 x 80GB Hard Drive 4096 MB RAM
direction of any companies who offer dedicated servers with SuSe -

Hence I'm wondering briefly why exactly RAID (insert some random number?) is recommended? I know it does something to do preventing hard drive failure, although would an efficient backup system be a decent alternative with regards to cost?
a good method to have processes controlled in the resources they use, in a shared cpanel environment?
For example, it appears that the cpanel backup (compressed) made the load skyrocket to beyond 60% cpu and 95% memory usage today, and this server is beefy to begin with.
I want some system to kill processes immediately if they exceed X amount of resources or kill processes that spiral out of control (X amount of processes from same user).
I'd like to be alerted of this action as well.
How can I set this up?
billing system to control the traffic between router and servers. I thing I need a billing system installed on server with webgui like those used by ISPs but I need it working with paypal and other payment gateways.
The other solution is to use radius server but I will need it working with payment gateways. Can you recommend me a good radiuns server with many options?
