Linux (SuSE) Remove Files Ending
Does anyone knows how on Linux (SuSE) remove files ending with (lets say) *.1.0.1
when I try rm *.a.1
it outputs - to many arguments if rm test.* - everything is fine.

Does Anyone Use SUSE Linux
I have been trying to compare Red Hat to SUSE Linux, and can't really come to a definitive solution. I can't seem to find anyone that uses SUSE (Well, hardly anyway), but I found out that they have over double to market share that Red Hat has so somebody is definitely using them. I also noticed that SUSE is cheaper too. Based on your experiences, what are some of the pros / cons both ways? Who offers better product training (I wan't to get certified directly)? Who has better product support? Is AppArmor better than SELinux? By the way, I am only looking for commercial linux distributions. Specifically companies that offer product training.

How to setup nameservers in SUSE Linux when my server is behind router? I'd need to setup two nameservers so I could register domains. NAT IP is the ip shown at whatismyip.com? or is it ip my router gives out eg 192.168.4.103?

Batch Remove Files And Copy
to move the httpdocs folders of multiple sites on my plesk server to another server (share on other serv is already mounted so thats not an issue) but their is 31 different domains i need to copy. wondering if anyone knows any way to batch automate a cp process to copy each domains files to a new folder on remote server (this is for backup purposes not live sites so i cant use plesk migration etc

Remove Linux And Install Windows XP
I need to remove CentOS from an old office PC. Dont get me wrong I use Linux almost on everything but for specific reason I need to get XP back into this old AMD PC. I cannot install XP. I cannot remove Linux. This install is devil. It will not let me remove it. I tried everything. XP disk goes black screen and stays there, this is happens with some hardware and you have to remove all Linux partitions to me the Windows XP disk install start. The problem I CANT remove it. I go to rescue mode, or interactive, mode, it doesnt matter, I cannot remove linux. "fisk -l" Go to my partition fdisk /dev/sda2 d for delete and it just outputs: No partition is defined yet! I tried lots of ways around it and always that message. Linux doesnt let me remove the partitions. How in the world do I get XP back now?

my servers and they have a minimal list of settings in the ifcfg file. I am using centOS so it is ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth1. Anyway, here's one of them from a REL3 server. Rsync Some Files From Windows To A Linux Server
At work, we have a windows 2003 server. We have a set of files that get modified from day to day. Since they know I own a dedicated server (Linux) they ask me if it would be possible to have an offsite backup on my server of the set of files on the windows 2003 server. Also, I dont want to have the whole files set to be uploaded everyday. I am aware of rsync on *nix system, but do you have any suggestions on how to proceed with a windows 2003 server to a unix server?

Remove Empty Folders And Remove From A Db
ive got a site which auto creates subdomains and installs a script automaticly and inserts details into a mysql db. i have had some issues recent so have loads (talking 100s) of folders that are empty which i need to remove, and to remove the details of said folder from db also. any ideas how i can do this, using plesk control panel so removing the subdomain via plesk cli may be the best way in that respect but the db is external to plesk so that would not be edited

Windows Crash When Saving Files To Linux Share
We have a Windows 2003 Enterprise server with 6GB of RAM and about 20 terminal services users logging in. These users then launch a program called Accuthin Thin Client giving them access to a piece of software called Southware that runs on a Centos 5 Linux server on the same network. Problem seems to be that saving files to the network share causes windows to blue screen and crash. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I know it is a shot in the dark but we have been investigating this issue for 4 months, have replaced the Windows server 5 times, increased RAM to 8 GB and installed Enterprise edition clean but the issue follow no matter what we do.

How NOT To Require CHMOD 755 Permissions To Create, Write And Delete Files On Linux
On my previous server and on some other hosts, I was able to write to files (for example with PHP) without having to chmod the files first. Now I cannot, and files are required to be chmoded properly so I can write to them. I cannot even touch() a file with PHP. Is there any way to have this permissions removed? I don't want to chmod the all thing, all I want is to change the configurations so I can fwrite() or file_put_contents() normally. I's a dedicated un-managed server, so basically any advanced configurations can be done.

SuSE Vs. RHEL
Anyone out there have experience with SuSE over RedHat? RHEL is obviously the generalized Enterprise version used across most commercial hosting companies, but I'm interested in hearing about some SuSE experiences people have had. It looks like SoftLayer offers SuSE and a couple VPS hosting companies do the same. I'm wondering how many large-scale sites are run on this operating system.

Postfix On Suse Is Not Working
I have a server which runs suse linux on it. Postfix is already installed on it. But, the problem is i am not able to send mail using root. I mean using mail -v command. I could see the following in mail logs. I know 2 files main.cf and master.cf are there. Not, sure what to change and how. SusE / MAC X-Server Backup
I'm working with a local startup and we are looking into potential backup solutions. We have roughly 9 servers all running some variation of susE linux (some straight susE and some X Server which runs off susE). We are needing a backup solution that will allow us to securely get data off the servers on a regular interval. We are unable to move the data off site as we are running on a single T1 line with moderate utilization, certainly not enough BW to go off site.

Suse, Debian, Fedora Or CentOS
I will be dropping my shared-hosting plan and ordering a small VPS as soon as I can decide on which operating sytem to use. It seems that most companies offer the following choices: Suse, Debian, Fedora and CentOS. I freely admit that I am a full-fledged n00b when it comes to linux and will be learning as I go, the problem is I just don't know where to start because I'm not familiar with any of them. I have at least heard of Suse, Debian and Fedora before, but didn't even know this CentOS existed until yesterday... and yet, it seems to be one of the more popular choices. So I was wondering if some of you seasoned VPS veterans here could recommend an OS, tell me what the differences are, or otherwise share any experience you might have with any of them.

Setting Up A Domain Name SUSE 10 Runing From Home
I've got SUSE 10 loaded and installed at home. My ISP service is highspeed from Comcast (speed right now not an issue), I would like to setup a domain name on the box to play around with - nothing serious yet. Links Files In Linux (file.txt For File.php)
Today I found some cstomer on the servers make a link for named it file.txt and link it to other customer php file. so that customer have the ability to show the other custoer file content when visiting the url because it is a text wile originally it is a php file. the php file was a config file, so now he know the database password , and because he is in the same server he can use that databse. the question , how to avoide this prolem in the future? notes , the SuExec is rnning and the open_basedir protection is enabled, but the problem still exists.

Transferring 200 Files : Total Files Size Is 25 GB!
I couldn't keep my mouth shut (technically fingers). A customer wanted to upgrade servers and he needed a way to move the data across. Since I don't allow hard drives to be swapped, they have to do it manually all by themselves. I generally allow up-to 4 days for them to transfer data and make DNS changes, etc. But this time, I offered help! I agreed to move the data (darn me) and it just came out of me, involuntarily. God knows what just happened... but in a positive way, customer is extremely happy! So... Both servers are on cPanel - with root access (duh) 200 odd files which total to 25 GB 1 database about 100 MB in size (no biggie) I was planning on using one of my Windows 2003 servers (via remote desktop) to download the 25 GB and upload the 25 GB, but that sounds like a waste of resources and time.

Remove Xen Xps
I have setup a xen VPS some time back. I need to remove it permanently. I have used the commands virsh destroy <domainID> as well as xm destroy <domainID>. However they only performs a shutdown. I can restore it back! I want to remove / wipe it permanently and memory consumed is given up then and reflected in the core server.

Yum Remove Command
I had some issues with PHP compilation seems to be issue with zlib. So I decided to remove it. What happened then is something like nightmare... The command yum remove zlib removed zlib + all dependencies without asking me what to remove. So it removed majority of packages including yum itself. How can I force yum to not remove dependencies when I uninstall some package?

Remove CPanel Garbage....
I hate cpanl. It's bloated, slow, and just twice as hard to do anything(over command line). Anyways, how can I turn this crap off...it seems like ever time I reboot something comes back and changes conf files(installs older version of programs) and stuff like that. I've shut off any cpanel stuff I can find in the services startup and removed all crons but is there anything else? I get emails like cpsrvd failed @ Fri Jun 22 10:25:38 2007. A restart was attempted automagicly.

How To Use .htaccess To Remove Subdirectory...
Is it possible to use .htaccss to remove the subdirectory from a url? The reason I ask it that the script I want to use requires members to be in a /users/ directory, and I would like to remove that part of the url. For instance... can I use .htaccess to change www.thewebsite.com/users/username to www.thewebsite.com/username I have absolutely no need to access the /users/ directory without the username, it's just that all accounts are created in that directory. Flushing Iptables/remove Rules
I have a VPS (Virtuozzo) with cPanel installed. I notice that iptables running in the VPS had many DROP rules when I listed using iptables -nL command. So I flushed iptabled using "iptables -F" command and also "> /etc/sysconfig/iptables" command and restarted iptabled. When I try to list the rules it would show empty. However when I try to list after a few minutes it is showing the same old rules with many DROP rules yet again! Is there anyway to remove the rules completely?
