FDCServers Review - Network Very Unreliable
Jun 5, 2008
I get like 25 kbps download speeds from my brand new fdcservers server (750+ kbps normally from my other servers) even though I'm the only user downloading from it and my U.S 100 mbit servers get less than 100 kbps too when they try to download from the fdcserver. and quite often there's 100% packet loss for 10 - 30 seconds. Very unreliable network. Also, they first installed the wrong OS in my server. I requested CentOS and they installed FreeBSD. At least they fixed that later on.
They don't have service level agreements and they don't guarantee any amount of bandwidth, they just make empty promises. Now I know why.

I am planning to buy server from FDC server for my new hosting company. Can anyone provide me true suggestion on them:
-How are they?
-How is their network?
-How is their hardware quality?
-How is there support?

I've been considering some local Colos over the past few months. I've seen FDCservers located out of Chicago, they are actually only 1 block down the street from my office, which is nice. Their prices are amazing. We are looking to colo 1U Servers.
here is a snipit I found on the ads forum.
INTERNAP PROMO
NO minimum commit
Month to month term
%100 dedicated INTERNAP bandwidth $12/Mbit !!!
Server Space (electric included)
1U server - $39/month
So according to this I can get a 10MB InterNap Colo for $159/mo.
Anyone care to share their experience with this company?

I have tried this service with their Virtual Dedicated Server #3 offer for two months, the connection was not impressive... And I was surprised especially by the support, each time that you have a software problem you have to pay 25-50$ to have it resolved, they work free only for material difficulties.
One day all is working and the day after your websites are no more offline, if you have access to the server (even if you have not touched to the server and that the sites are still not running after a restart), it is considered as a software complication and you have to pay... it happens 1-2 time by month.
Very disappointing and it is not well specified on their website that the support is not free.

what can i say, you get what you pay for but i think this is expensive!
i fell to the trap of unmetered bandwith. its true, it was really freaking fast speed.
BUT, ram is limited. especially if you run cPanel. i advise people not to use it.
Tickets were answered very fast. usually within 2~5 minutes. even faster at times.
downside: a bit expensive. even though unmetered bandwith, this is shared. also its tough to push much traffic because of the lack of ram. i think if you bought something with 1gig ram, you can find cheaper VPS.
also you are completely on your own with this VPS. nothing surprised i knew this going in. But then i discovered other services that provided managed VPS at even cheaper price! these were reputable companies too. Next time im just gonna go with managed service. wasted too much time compiling and learning how to do stuff.
I give : out of
I found lot of the reviews on here inaccurate. They are actually not bad.....but imo a bit expensive.

To start please take this in mind I have servers colo'd at FDC and have 0 problems, so i'm still all for fdc servers.
Here is my 24 hours review on my new vps server from FDC setup was quick less than 5hours after paying my invoice.
Now down to my problems. Off peak hours last night my VPS server was great 10 / 20mbits solid speed on sending data from the box today I am unable to get over 150kb/sec.
This doesn't help me since the nature of my business I need to transfer files fast between servers. The VPS speeds of 150kb/sec will be no use for my business if anything make our job harder.
These tests were taken using the internal fdc network transferring from the new vps to one of my 1gig fdc colos and other various servers I have on the FDC network.
After contacting fdc support about this speed issue they logged in and checked the speeds they did a download of the speedtest file from the fdc website around 30 - 40mbits. But they didn't test the outgoing from the server.
I received the response that I am sharing bandwidth on the node so speeds could vary so on there 100mbit unmetered vds package they are saying 150kb/sec is acceptable.
So basically after that my last response is if 150kb/sec are the speeds i can expect from a VDS then please cancel my server at the end of the billing period as the VDS will be no use to me.
So now I have been transferred to billing to cancel the vps at the end of the billing period.
So to sum it up, vps setup was fast and the vps runs great but don't expect the speeds you can get from one of there dedicated servers.

I have been with SmartWaveTech.com for years now i have spent most of my website creating life with them and never received any problems.
The only problems was I chose them as a hosting company called Hugoton hosting this then changed to SmartWaveTech.com, for a while it was okay then they previous owners decided to sell out there company and was perchance by its current owners. This is were all my problems being after the server becoming slow and versions of software not kept up to date I emailed them, this led to nothing no ever a reply I emailed them a further 3 times about this then a further 7 times asking for a account termination. Not once did if get a reply then on email number 8 I received a reply but still they consist to tell me that the hosting package I have its no longer available.
To sum to the have treated me and many other clients very bad I assume, I feel quite cheated with out warring having my hosting taken from me and told its none existent!

Unbelievable how bad HostMySite.com has become. At one time they were pretty much at the top but there has been enough mistakes, bad service and lack of support on HostMySite.com's part to warn others. The most recent situation could have come out of a modern day Three Stooges skit. When I asked to have a host set up three were generated instead by billing.
When I contacted support about the web not showing he stated that he could see the files I had upload just fine. I looked in the HostMySite.com control panel and found the duplicate entries for the domain. When I contact support again, another technician said that he could see the HostMySite "under construction" page just fine - two different IPs. After finding the duplicate errors I requested that HostMySite.com remove the other entries so that the domain was using only one IP.
I received an email stating the reason for the conflict was due to duplicate entries and that the support ticket was forwarded to billing to remove the duplicates (no kidding). Long story short was nothing happened so I contacted them again and was informed that the support request was stuck in the billing queue - no one had looked at it. My deadline had already pasted (marketing).
More to that story but I sure would like to hear from others that may have had bad encounters from HostMySite.com.
Being one that has been around the block with internet marketing I can say that the original mistake could have been forgiven. The inability on their part to correct the mistake cause for concern. HostMySite.com's lack of concern for their mistake unforgivable.

recently had my site designed and hosted by dotster and some parts are not working the way we expected. I have attempted to contact them over 10 times
I have waited on hold over an hour
there " live 24 hour support" you wait for 15 minutes than apparently a girl named sharon helps you and you get no response.
I have gotten absolutely ZERO response from them.
Just to let everyone know I would NEVER host a site with this company.
at the very least get back to your customers when they have an issue

I am not sure is it is realistic to take out insurance against losses caused by downtime. Or perhaps insurance would merely increase the costs to such an extent that it would be better to spend more on the hosting costs, and the improved service that would buy. Has anyone considered this as an issue, because I have read on other forums that people complain of lost income due to their sites being down for a day or two, and it sounds like they just suffer the losses without any recompense?

I am very unhappy with Reliablesite. Their servers are down since 48 hours and I feel down. There is no response from the support team. The same happened to the other server as well some days back and they are continously having having hardware issue.
I am just wondering what happened to the marketing blurb that reads:
"Fully Redundant: More uptime starts with multiple backbones of Tier 1 only providers to fail-over servers which kick in instantly."
Where are these fail-over servers and why did they not "kick in instantly" when everything went FUBAR?
The control panel is now just giving the error:
Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)
All of my domains have been down for over 48 hours with either a server error message appearing or an IIS7 "Sites currently being restored. Please see bear with us." message. Every database I have now returns the error message "login failed" for each user as well.
This is an unacceptable amount of downtime, I will now have to list every domain I own and create new users for every database. I find this quite disturbing that I now have an extra amount of work put on me for something that should have been handled by the "fail-over" servers which don't seem to have kicked in at all.
I think they are faking their advertisement of "fail-over" and they should change their name to "Unreliablesite.net".
I think this company's English skills are a bit off when they brag about their "Fully Redundant fail-over servers". Judging from their performance, I think what they were actually trying to say is that their servers are "fell over" servers. You know, the kind of servers keep falling over...again and again.
Sad part about it is they actually believe they're helping people with their lame attempts to explain what the problems are. They are so wrapped up in "damage control" they think their customers are complete idiots and will believe anything they post.
Posts like "25% of the sites should now be working. MySQL and MS SQL databases will be coming back up soon as well. We estimate that the entire move will be complete at 12PM EST June 25th."
What does 25 persent of the sites mean or tell me about when my sites will be up. Twenty-five percent of what?!! Well that was 36 hours ago when they made that claim and many others and they still both down.
All I know is I keep getting Emails from support reading, "It should be fixed now".
Simply accessing the URL reveals that the problem is indeed not fixed. Just a little bit of checking and investigation can go a long way. RSNET, this is getting ridiculous. Please DO NOT send me anymore "it is fixed" Emails until it the problem is actually fixed. I have been patient as and as understanding as I can possibly be through the latest string of outages but my patience is wearing thin. PLEASE just get the sites running again and soon.

I've been lurking and posting on these forums long enough that I figure it's time for me to contribute something that might help other users: a quick review of 2AM Networks.
I have 2 dedicated servers with them and I couldn't be happier. Network uptime is 100% as far as I can see, the servers are delivered within their given timeframes (despite me ordering during a sales rush both times - I'm clever like that ) and with exactly the specifications requested.
Support is fantastic. I haven't needed it a great deal but all responses have been within 20-30 minutes and the answers are spot on.
You can see how good the prices are for yourselves in the dedicated offers forum or on their dedicated servers page but I'm pleasantly surprised to find that even the add-ons (IPs, etc) are the same price as more expensive competitors.
So if anyone is researching dedicated servers I'd recommend taking a look at 2AM Networks
(I'll report my server IPs to give this review some credibility)

Well it's near 12 months now I've been hosted with Fused Network.
I have nothing bad to say about them. I've been extremely happy with their service.
Support: It's true 24/7 I submitted a ticket at 12:30AM GMT+10:00 (approx 4AM USA) and they replied within 5 minutes.
Service: They've lived up to their promises, the uptime is great, never going under 99.9% - my monitor is unreliable though, so they're probably up around 99.99%. Any outages are always announced, and I haven't noticed any downtime.
Price: Their price is amazing, it's not cheap, but it's not expensive either, in this industry you get what you pay for, I was expecting much less for the price, so I am very happy with their pricing structure and support for price. It can only get better.
Overall: From my previous 9/10 they've risen up to a 10/10. It's top notch service, and I have nothing bad at all to say about them.
If you're looking for a great host that cares, go for it. Their affiliate system is unique, a percentage of funds goes out to charity, rather than in the pocket of the affiliate, while it may not be for you, I like it, it's a great idea.
I have no reason to change host, or even get another hosting account elsewhere, why risk a possible bad experience when I have a excellent one with my current provider?

I just wanted to take a minute a give a brief update on my experience with LSN. It has been three months since I took the plunge and rented my server with them. Uptime and network conditions have been excellent (1 hour down due to an upstream provider issue) and I have had zero problems with the hardware/support. Well that is not exactly true I am learning as I go and I have had significant problems but they were all due to my learning the server enviornment. Really this is what sets Ryan and his crew apart in my eyes. I have been with several hosts before them and LSN are the most helpful and courteous company by far. I have had to contact them for tedious things like resetting passwords and opening ports I forgot to and they have always done whatever I asked with a smile on their face (or at lease a ':-)' in the chat!). After about a month I had figured all the things out I needed to figure out for day to day management of my box.
Then I noticed they were offering windows at no extra charge for my product line and switched. I began again with the learning curve. They were most helpful and I ended up paying them a fair price to install exchange 2003 on my server and configure it for me (I know when I am licked :-))
All in all you can find cheaper hosts but like others have said you get what you pay for and in my opinion I got a lot more with LSN.

My review of Fused Network.
I looked for a few hosts around on the forums it came down to a select 3, and out of them I chose Fused Network because I liked their design and all of the reviews about them were good. Plus the owner ran his own review site, which I thought was nice.
I signed up for Fused Network on the 9th of April for 3 months, and it is now the 2nd of June, and so far I am happy with Fused Network.
To start off I had many questions to ask, and all were responded to in a timely manner, I'd say all questions were answered in under 1 hour if I remember correctly.
I asked about uptime, SLA, affiliate system etc.
Uptime was a guaranteed 99.9% and if it goes below that I would get a free month, so that was their SLA of sorts.
Their affiliate system which is not like others is you get people to sign up, and some of the earnings go to your charity of choice - a good idea and props go to them for that.
During the last month, there have been notices of any downtime that would happen - so you get a notification before it goes down and how long it will be down, which is very good IMO, I am pleased with that. Downtime was minimal.
As for site speeds, my website loads very fast and I am happy with that.
The control panel they use is cPanel, and they have a script installer, not my favourite though, it's installatron, my favourite being fantastico, they don't use it because of security issues. I've had a few problems with installatron - SMF wouldn't install, and the XMB files were missing on the installatron server (a problem out of their hands) and it is still not resolved. SMF however is resolved and I can install that.
The issues with installatron were replied to in a timely manner, I was going to get an install of XMB for free if it would not install.
Their support is fantastic, I have little to say really as I haven't taken the full service of it, so far so good, I like it.
I'm no good with reviews, I always go from one subject to another so I'll keep it simple:
Support: 10/10
Personal touch: 8/10
(I like a bit of personal touch, I haven't seen this from all the support staff handling my issues)
Speed and reliability: 10/10 (+1 for notifications)
Price: 9/10
(I don't mind it, but there are addon domain limitations for the starter packages)
Overall I'd rate them a 9/10 and I am a very happy customer.

My experience at Fused Network has been good. Now I wont be saying extraordinary or out-of-this-world because I'll keep it straight to the point.
Here's my previous review - [url].
My domain remains the same with a new one added to my account, and I haven't submitted any support tickets (minus sales) since then, but they did resolve the issue with XMB forum.
I have noticed some downtime via my site checker, but when I have visited my website all the time I've visited it's never been down. The checker I have is a free one, and checks every 60 minutes. So it may be wrong, probably is. I will have to rectify that problem, it's on my to-do list.
Last night I was contemplating reviving a project, and from memory which I found out was wrong, I was told it would cost $15.00 one time for an addon domain, as one was not included on the plan I was on - the starter plan.
I sent a ticket off, and I was prepared to fight and get one for free, I was told that it would actually cost $12.00 a year. Of course that reasonable, but I count my cents.
I'm very tight.
I was also told that the service they offer is support, and hosting is just a bell to the whistle, in other words.
Ok, back to me fighting the fee, they said they cannot discount it after my reply, they need to cover the costs. I also asked if they could refund it, if I in-fact don't want it anymore, they could refund it, so that was a seller for me.
I replied again and tried to do a little blackmailing, and it didn't work, much to my dismay. They also told me it wasn't as simple as "flicking a switch". I replied then with something witty and said "where would you like this vital $12.00 sent?"
They created an invoice and again to my dismay, I was outwitted!
If $12.00 weren't vital, the topic wouldn't have been brought up to begin with. Well touche Mr. Web Host.
They've got me as a customer for another 3 months: enough said.
For the interested:
Support: 10/10
Personal touch: 9/10 - gone up from 8 because of the witty-ness.
Speed and reliability: 10/10
Price: 9/10 - remains at 9, because I still had to pay for the addon domain. But it's very reasonable, how ever hard it is to say.

I had no problems with FDC and they were great at getting my server up with no charge for remote hands when needed. Since then it has been a different story though, atleast in the last month or so.
First off, I was put on their pure PCCW network thinking that problems with their Cogent network and such wouldn't effect me but it seems everytime they are DDOSed and everytime they have downtime with any network it drops packets for me as well which is pretty often on some occasions.
Second off, I had another server shipped there recently and it arrived damaged. They told me it was the power supply acting up so I ordered a new one and had it sent to them. They installed it quickly but still notified me that the hard drives weren't all recognized. I found it to be that one of the hard drives was bad, after removing that drive from the system I asked them to reinstall the OS which they did but they told me they still had problems booting it up with the SATA controller. I said to them to make sure that the SATA controller was enabled with AHCI which is needed for CentOS. They kept telling me how the server was bad and they needed to send it back.
I received this server earlier this week to find that the SATA controller was disabled in the BIOS and as soon as I enabled it, it booted up just fine. So that was a waste of 2 weeks and $30.00 they charged me to ship it back.
Also the power supply that was replaced (which was still under full warranty, worth >$50) they told me was unavailable because it had been "recycled". It only states that they own the property after 30 days of it being in their possession which I brought to their attention but they have yet to respond to me since I asked for them to credit me $50 or provide me with a 500W power supply.
If a support staff member is so incompetent that he cannot see if an SATA controller is disabled, how is he competent enough to work on servers?
I suggest future people looking into FDC to avoid making the decision, if you have trouble with your servers they are not on your side, nor care about what happens to you.
This whole ordeal cost me $70 total in shipping, atleast $50 in a power supply, and lost me business for atleast 2 weeks and they don't even have the courtesy to respond to me about it.

I'm really fed up with fdcservers.net VPS. The node I'm on is very unstable recently and it went online and offline very often, most of the time it went offline. I've checked my memory usage and the max I've seen is 240mb and my plan with them is 512mb. So i emailed their staff about it and she told me I had overused "dgramrcvbuf" and asked me to kill some processes. I don't have mysql and php running on my site, I use this VPS to host some swf and jpg file to my other site. Everytime I checked my memory and CPU load in WHM and it always shows green and CPU is below 0.4 most of the time. But when I run top command in SSH the memory goes up and down like roller coaster for the node where I've been told there's 4 VPS sharing the memory. So today I decided to take my apache offline for few hours and still experienced the same problem, the VPS still went offline most of the time. I hardly use my VPS and the amount I'm paying is not worth it at all. Anyone know what really cause VPS to be down besides running out of memory?

I'm basically just going to copy/paste the message I posted on their forums that will likely never see the light of day... But before I do, I would like to say the following...
We have been clients of FDCservers for over 2 years and have had nothing but good experiences with them up until...
"Ok, I'll try to remain as cool and collect as I possibly can, but I have to air my concerns here since our issues are NOT being resolved via support tickets...
We currently leased a new server 2 months ago in August, replacing our old server. Ever since we've gotten this new server we have had nothing but problems.
The problems are the same each and every time, and yet nothing is getting done to actually resolve them...
In a nuttshell, merely days after leasing this new server, we had an HDD fail. It was replaced a day or so later. Then a few days later, another HDD fails. Replaced 2 days later or so.
Then again, HDD failure. Now not only do we have to wait another 2 days for it to be replaced (seems you guys don't keep an on location stock?), but we also have to reload the OS due to the failure.
Finally get the server back online, losing a small amount of data in the process (so far); and AGAIN we have an HDD failure. And again, and again, and again...
I have been very patient with your support staff up until this point, but the amount of money we have lost over the last 2 months is making me look for a different provider.
The issues we are having point to hardware related issues, more than likely a bad onboard disk controller. But the solution has always been to simply replace the failed HDD with a new one, oh and one time you swapped the sata cable to another port.
Now, I'm fully aware that you do not offer an SLA, which is fine.. but we are still paying for a service and yet we are not getting what we're paying for at this point, which is really saddening because we've had nothing but good things to say about your company for 2 years now. But this latest run of events is quickly changing my opinion, and simply because your tech support doesn't seem to actually want to resolve problems the right way.
And now I'm told my server has been completely replaced, but not after a claim that one of my disks started "smoldering", one of them is corrupt and one is lost (as in physically misplaced). Not only that but this "new" server had a whole 2 hours of uptime before it crashed. I have to ask what the hell happened to you guys? You were the first company I recommended when someone asked about a good dedi server company, yet now I'm sitting here with ALL my data seemingly gone (we're talking several hundred GB's of data btw, not something that can be easily replaced by backups) and a "new" server that is already having stability issues!
I really hate to say this, but you guys do not hesitate to turn off a server if a payment is 3 days or so late, so why do you hesitate so much to give us a server that actually works properly?
Or server is ID# ####. Please address our issues once and for all (You can see the ticket history) so we can go back to being happy customers like we have been for the last 2 years..."
So my question is... what in the hell happened to these guys? I remember the one time we had a hardware issue (dead mobo on our old server), it was replaced and we were back online in under an hour. But now I dunno wtf is going on except that we are constantly losing money thanks to this newfound incompetence...

I have a VPS with FDCServers.net - I like it a lot. Now for the last two days, the VPS keeps getting hacked. I Have no idea how it even started. I first noticed Friday during the day at school. I sat during school and fixed it. They had installed SubSeven. Today, about 5 mins ago it was re-hacked. SubSeven again.
Now, I have firewalls on the server, after 5 attempts you are banned from the vps for 15 mins. ect..
This is my personal vps and I can't figure out how its happening, I use it for things like tunneling and such storing files ect.. Nobody ever is on it. I don't even host files on it. I have cPanel installed for the hell of it, it is always updated ect..
