Downloading LARGE Folders On Linux

Jan 15, 2007

On my site, there is a folder containing somewheres around 75,000 images.

I'm on shared hosting, but I do have shell access.

I want to basically copy this folder to another directory in the site. Can anyone give me any pointers?

Removing Large Files Or Folders CentOS

Jul 13, 2008

Something weird happening here. I have tried every string possible...

There are a number of folders I want to remove off my server, tried the good old and simple...

rm -r /folder/

And then went and ended up with a string as long as my screen. No matter what I do, as it goes recursive in to the directory it asks me if I want to remove each file individually. No matter what string or action I take it insists on asking me as it goes to delete each file.

Could this be a configuration option in CentOS?

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Copying Folders Into Another Folder Using Same Name

Aug 9, 2014

I'm having a problem when copying folders into another folder using the same name.e.g. there's a folder called css in httpdocs/backup/css and also httpdocs/css. However, I'm trying to restore the backup and actually copy the /css dir from httpdocs/backup to httpdocs. Plesk should overwrite the existing target css dir (and its content/files) in httpdocs/css. However, Plesk creates a new css dir inside httpdocs/css so I have the "original" httpdocs/css dir content intact and also the css dir (from httpdocs/backup/css) copied into httpdocs/css so the full path is httpdocs/css/css

I'm highlighting the httpdocs (not /css dir) in the File manager - Copy Files window. I've tried that on a few installs and experiencing issue on each of them. Please see the attached screenshots.

Step 1. Select (check) the css dir and click copy (or move, result is the same)

Step 2. Mark the httpdocs dir (it doesn't matter if you click the Replace existing files checkbox)

Step 3. Final result, css dir from httpdocs/backup copied into httpdocs/css/

I've compared the dir content several times and definitely the css dir from httpdocs/backup is copied to httpdocs/css so the full path would be: http docs/css/css and the original "old" files from css will remain there.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: File Sharing Stops - Unable To Load Folders List

Apr 6, 2015

After enabling File Sharing in Plesk 12, the service appears to function correctly. If only a few files are uploaded, they are ok. However, after uploading a directory structure with a handful of MB, and subdirectories, File Sharing stops. It shows at the top of the screen:

"Internal error: The File Sharing service is temporarily unavailable because the site is down for maintenance."

it also says in the main window:

"Unable to load folders list."

Clicking on Upload Files, that dialog also shows "Unable to load folders list."

I have checked that the ownership of those files on the server is www-data:www-data , and that permissions are 755 for directories and 644 for files, because it seems like ownership and permissions could be an issue, however that doesn't fix it. Removing all the files in the share does fix it, however that's not useful if the files should be available for sharing.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Client Intended To Send Too Large Body

May 11, 2015

I have been using Plesk for a while on my server, but this is the first time that I need to set up large files uploading for a client who requires to upload via a form files that are larger than 128MB (but less than 400).The issue I've been seeing is that whenever the user tries to upload a file greater than 128MB I see an error on the proxy_error_log that says:

2015/05/10 21:46:18 [error] 31224#0: *9 client intended to send too large body: 175420278 bytes, client: XX.XX.XX.XX, server: myserver.com , request: "POST /admin/products/1 HTTP/1.1", host: "myserver.com", referrer: "referrer"

I've been googling this issue and everything points to the nginx configuration (PHP parameters have already been set up). I proceeded to change the configuration of /etc/nginx/nginx.conf to include

http {
...
client_max_body_size 400M;
...
}

HOWEVER (and this is where I'm stuck) after restarting the nginx service, the fille /etc/nginx/plesk.conf.d/vhosts/myserver.com.conf continues to hold the value:

server {
...
client_max_body_size 128m;
...
}

Modifying this file to change the 128m to 400m does not make a difference.

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Searching Large Mailbox In Horde / Roundcube Causes Read Data Timeout

Jun 26, 2014

This is applies to both Horde and roundcube webmail client software;

Using Plesk 11.5.30 with Horde 5.1.5 or roundcube 0.9.5 on CentOS Linux release 6.5 (Final).

We have seen this behavior occur on multiple servers.

Clients experienced slow to no response after executing a search, which eventually results in a failed to communicate with the server-error in the webmail client.

The Apache server log shows script time-out errors when searching larger mailboxes (i.e. larger than 950 MB), this does not happen on smaller mailboxes.

We have seen errors like the following in the Apache server error log with Horde (personal data like IP-address and domain name are x'ed out):

[Thu Jun 19 14:55:06 2014] [warn] [client xx.xxx.xxx.xxx] mod_fcgid: read data timeout in 45 seconds, referer: http://webmail.xxxxxxx.com/imp/dynamic.php?page=mailbox
[Thu Jun 19 14:55:06 2014] [error] [client xx.xxx.xxx.xxx] Premature end of script headers: ajax.php, referer: http://webmail.xxxxxxx.com/imp/dynamic.php?page=mailbox

And with Roundcube:

[Tue Jun 17 13:02:04 2014] [warn] [client xx.xxx.xxx.xxx] mod_fcgid: read data timeout in 45 seconds, referer: https://webmail.xxxxxxxxxxx.com/?_t...d=19445&_mbox=INBOX&_caps=pdf=0,flash=1,tif=0
[Tue Jun 17 13:02:04 2014] [error] [client xx.xxx.xxx.xxx] Premature end of script headers: index.php, referer: https://webmail.xxxxxxxxxxx.com/?_t...d=19445&_mbox=INBOX&_caps=pdf=0,flash=1,tif=0

Steps to reproduce:

- use a large mailbox (950 MB or higher)
- login to the webmail (Horde or roundcube)
- do a search in the search field on the top right
- the time-out error should appear in the server Apache error log (after at least 45 seconds)

This seems like an inefficiency or bug in the search query that searches the user's mailbox. Is there any other way we can prevent this issue and the error messages?

Downloading And Streaming.... Use's Up The Same Mb?

Oct 13, 2008

I have a friend who we were debating about this.

He says he called up the internet company and upgraded his monthly plan to 60 gig or downloading a month, because he loves watching steaming videos(not youtube) im talking about actual movies.

They told him if he downloaded a 700mb movie or if he watched the exact same movie it would use up 700mb

So according to them downloading or streaming uses the same mb.

I found this hard to believe. But i have no wa of proving it.

What is the answer?

Files Not Downloading To Users

Feb 6, 2008

I run a download website boasting many files (entirely legal, non-pornographic), the sizes of which range from 100KB to 500MB. Some users of the site seem to be complaining of the files not downloading and or being truncated (i.e: it says it has been downloaded even though it has not been fully downloaded.)

Here is one reply I received:

"No specific massage appears, only sign the download is complete and infact it is not. About 7 mega down loaded instead of 79 mega. I use fire fox browser and ADSL internet line speed 512"

All the files however do seem to download perfectly on my computer, though I have a good 8mb line, which leads me to believe it may be something to do with a timeout setting?

Alterntive Way For Downloading A MySQL Database

Apr 6, 2007

A friend of mine has an account with a hosting company that recently became unstable and he wants to move his site away.

I downloaded the files, but it now seems impossible to download the databases in the conventional ways.

I tried downloading them using their control panel (vDeck) but I get an error "File Permissions do not allow to download backup".

Then I tried to export it using PHPMyAdmin but the files either doesn't download at all, or it downloads inccomplete with the last lines having something like the following:

Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /usr/local/apache/htdocs/phpMyAdmin-2.6.3/export.php:121

I tried to contact their support but they have no clue.

Is there any way to download the database? I thought of creating a script that would manually itterate through the tables and create an export fie similar to what phpMyAdmin creates. I don't know if this is possible, and I hope there are better ways.
