Downloading And Streaming.... Use's Up The Same Mb?
I have a friend who we were debating about this.
He says he called up the internet company and upgraded his monthly plan to 60 gig or downloading a month, because he loves watching steaming videos(not youtube) im talking about actual movies.
They told him if he downloaded a 700mb movie or if he watched the exact same movie it would use up 700mb
So according to them downloading or streaming uses the same mb.
I found this hard to believe. But i have no wa of proving it.
What is the answer?

Invalid Command 'php_flag' - After Recompiling PHP & Apache?
After I recompiled Apache and PHP using easyapache from cPanel, we started getting all these weird errors. I'm getting a few people now complaining about not being able to enable register_globals. I believe (after searching) that having this enabled is a big security risk and shouldn't need to be used. However, some people apparently where using .haccess and php_flag to enable this. I did find on a few places that people can create their own php.ini file to emulate what was previously done with .htaccess? After searching around.. I found out that Register Globals can become a security risk based on the scripts configuration that uses it. This feature normally can be enabled via .htaccess using the glad "php_flag register_globals On". Creating a file called php.ini inside the directory of the site with the flag "register_globals=on" I believe will also enable this option. To enable this option on a global scale, you can edit '/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/etc/php.ini', but its not recommended. However.. We are unable to get the php.ini concept to work. Is there something I need to do to enable/allow users to do this for their account?

I'd go w/ a hosted service, but I open allot of pop3 connections... (program I use downloads one email, closes connection, reopens... repeat)... There's lots of cookbooks out there, but they require quite a bit more time commitment (and configurability) than I want / need. Is there any dumbified installs available? I tried with webmin, but even that wants me to manually configure a postfix / imap server bridge.=

Qmail - I'm Afraid I Wasn't Able To Deliver Your Message
Basically a client has been getting really bad email problems with their email. They keep getting the standard qmail msg back from several emails. I originally thought this msg was being returned as it was an invalid receipients address, but they are assuring me that this is not the case? Anyway the basic msg they are getting is: Hi. This is the qmail-send program at p16489287.pureserver.info. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. BoxVPS = Useless | STAY AWAY From This 'company'

Also had to create a support ticket. And when it was finally delivered, there was no DirectAdmin on it. Specially disturbing, since I actually paid for a monthly license. Not to mention that their responses are very vague. They claim to apply the promotions (triple disk space, double bandwidth) 24 hours after they setup the VPS. I have no idea why they do that. Moreover, they have false advertising on their VPS page (Instant Activation..where it should read 'We don't activate your VPS unless you create a support ticket). A speedtest from the VPS showed that the VPS is capable of bursting to a maximum of 10mbps, while average speed is barely 2mbps. Stay away from these guys. They're potential scammers. They WILL scam.. sooner or later.

Looking For Host That Supports $_SERVER['PATH_INFO']
I am finishing up on my clients site and the ecommerce software we use has an option for search engine friendly URL's but your server must support $_SERVER['PATH_INFO'] . My client is hosted by GoDaddy and my host (HostGator) does not support it unless you go dedicated. I need $_SERVER['PATH_INFO'] Dedicated IP, PHP, MySQL, .htaccess support preferably CPanel - not Plesk Less than $120 / year I am looking for a well established company like the ones I previously mentioned because my client wants peace of mind and I don't want to screw him over.

What Is The Reverse Command For 'mount --bind'
A few days ago, when installing TUX, I have mounted the virtual hosting directory to var/www/html/mywebsite.com (that's an empty directory I created in order for TUX to work) via: mount --bind /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/ /var/www/html/mywebsite.com/ command..... After figuring out that TUX has some problems I reverted everything but not this mount --bind command.. What is the reverse command for this, so everything will come back to the point which they were before?

Files Not Downloading To Users
I run a download website boasting many files (entirely legal, non-pornographic), the sizes of which range from 100KB to 500MB. Some users of the site seem to be complaining of the files not downloading and or being truncated (i.e: it says it has been downloaded even though it has not been fully downloaded.) Here is one reply I received: "No specific massage appears, only sign the download is complete and infact it is not. About 7 mega down loaded instead of 79 mega. I use fire fox browser and ADSL internet line speed 512" All the files however do seem to download perfectly on my computer, though I have a good 8mb line, which leads me to believe it may be something to do with a timeout setting?

Downloading Using Browser On Linux
I'm trying to download this 1 GB file on my Linux server CentOS. But its requiring me to enter a Captcha image which doesn't show up using Elinks or Lynx the two browser I tried. Wget was my first thing that I tried but that wouldnt work since its impossible to enter the captcha using wget command. So I need some help how should I download this to my server I'm on Slow DSL connection and it would take weeks to download 1 GB using my desktop and then reuploading it again to server using FTP.

1&1 Ded Server Downloading
This is my 2nd server,i had a server with leaseweb and no probs wat so ever setting up utorrent on it. Ive set it up on my 1%1 server but nothing is moving,ive tried random ports,ive tried turning the cisco firewall of on the 1&1 web page control pannel,but nothing moves wat so ever. What have i missed here,theres no way they can block all ports...it says on there site all ports are avilible,but even if i picked a random port,and wasnt connectable it would still download just slow,any1 else with a 1&1 server had downloading probs with utorrnte.

Alterntive Way For Downloading A MySQL Database
A friend of mine has an account with a hosting company that recently became unstable and he wants to move his site away. I downloaded the files, but it now seems impossible to download the databases in the conventional ways. I tried downloading them using their control panel (vDeck) but I get an error "File Permissions do not allow to download backup". Then I tried to export it using PHPMyAdmin but the files either doesn't download at all, or it downloads inccomplete with the last lines having something like the following: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /usr/local/apache/htdocs/phpMyAdmin-2.6.3/export.php:121 I tried to contact their support but they have no clue. Is there any way to download the database? I thought of creating a script that would manually itterate through the tables and create an export fie similar to what phpMyAdmin creates. I don't know if this is possible, and I hope there are better ways.

Use Htaccess File To Disable Downloading Of Anything In The Directory
I am using a flash media player on one of my domains that streams music. The flash player would be like domain.com/music The mp3 files are located in domain.com/music/mp3 The flash player just reads the title of the song and displays it in the media player. I have used htaccess already to disable indexing, but the file name that shows on the media player is the exact name of the mp3, so I'm pretty sure people will be able to easily figure this out and start downloading our music. What else can I add to htaccess to allow localhost access to the music, to stream with the flash player, but wont allow downloading of the mp3s.

I test it myself and at night i download at about 60k/s, late at night, mornings its around 300kb/s Im guessing my site is basically getting high traffic and load issues in the evenings. (average daily bandwidth is around 200-300gb) So basically i need to rectify this pronto. What are the possible solutions? i thought if i bought a second cheaper server that could step in when the load gets too much for my primary server this could help out the speeds. Am i correct, are there cheaper ways of speeding things up?

Clients E-mail Are Hanging Or Downloading Multiple Mails
I've got a client who seems to be having a problem with his e-mail on my VPS. When he tries to download mails his browser(thunderbird) says 'Receiving one of 80' and hangs. The only solution is to go into webmail and delete some of the mails then try and receive them again. One thing that puzzles me is he doesn't have 80 mails in his account, he only have 33. This isn't happening with anyone else who's using thunderbird and my VPS.

File Size (content Length) Not Showing When Downloading Files
When I download a file from my server, only specific extensions are working. This is really annoying since I want to be able to see how much time left to finish a download. For example I uploaded a video with .vob extension file.vob --> does not show filesize when downloading If I rename the same file to different extension: file.avi --> works fine shows filesize when downloading file.mp3 --> works fine shows filesize when downloading file.rar --> works fine shows filesize when downloading file.mp4 --> does not show filesize when downloading file.wmv --> does not show filesize when downloading These are direct download links, not using any download scripts or anything. Why are some extensions displaying the filesize and some not displaying them? I am using Apache 2.x server.

Streaming Speeds
Im currently running a streaming media (video) site on a p4 3.0 GHz with 2 gigs of ram. I think its a 10mpbs unmetered port. It streams extremly slow, to the point where it lags every second. It does this even though their is only 6 people on, with loads of 200 it just freezes up. What configuration would be able to hold traffic of 200 people constantly. I was on a faster server with hostgator, their dedicated pro but i went through the bandwidth in 5 days.

I have a swf video player, when i load a page in explorer with the swf embeded into it.. the video begins to stream fine.. however if i try and change the explorer page the page wont change untill the entire video has been streamed.. anyone have any ideas as to why this is?... is this something wrong with a. my explorer settup?... b. my server setup?... or c. my swf?...

Im searching 1u colocation in usa/europe with unmetered 100Mbps, can be shared but with guarantee 30Mbps.. Bandwidth will be use in 98% to Poland (70% to polish TPSA network). Server will use only :80 port, every connection will be cut to 60KB per sec on web.. so bandwidth should not "jumping" from 30 to 60mbps etc..

I am running on a VPS system, and I have some auction software and I run Vbulletin as well.. When someone trys to do a Private MEssage via Vbulletin using anything with the @ in it.. Like an e-mail address. And hit submit, it says " /private.php access is denied. But it also does it when I post news in the auction site. Don't Use Bluehost
So when you got a website for a service and it says "$6 per month for 3 years" would you take that as they charge you monthly, $6? Well Bluehost doesn't. They charged me $250 and I didn't realize what they were doing until the charge went through. I called within 24 hours and spoke to billing. I cancelled the entire service. She said it was only a "hold" on my account and she would make the hold credit me back and it would be done within a few hours and that I would receive an email from her confirming. Well, I got another confirmation email NOT a we are cancelling the service email. Then, one $250 charge dropped off... AND TWO MORE APPEARED. In one of the confirmation emails they sent there was an email address for the help desk. So I emailed this to them. I am not speaking to them on the phone. I want it in writing this time. Two seconds after I sent the email I got an auto response telling me they don't read the email and I must formally put in a ticket. I didn't think I would be able to since my account was supposed to be cancelled. Well, it did let me log in. She didn't cancel it and if she did she went and put it back in again twice. DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE.

After 3 and 1/2 years of using an ipowerweb shared server for my site, they have decided to no longer provide the needed PHP extensions. They no longer have these extensions enabled. dom dom-xslt dom-exslt xslt xslt-sablot swf gd jpeg png xpm ming imap kerberos mbstring mbstr-enc-trans mbregex mcrypt safe-mode I don't need the language extensions, but without the encryption and image extensions my site is "broken" and I was hoping to use more XML this winter. I am looking for another LAMP host with these extensions enabled.
