I find it easy to update softwares (PHP, MySQL, phpmyadmin, Apache, etc.) in Directadmin because they have integrated custombuild. I plan to try Plesk for the first time, what is the counterpart of custombuild in Plesk?
since most dedicated server are just desktop pc. i was wondering what would be a great motherboard and tower for home made server for my own use or possible for colo? perfer enought RAM slot for up to 8gig and onboard SATA RAID controller
i want buy a vps i have these solutions : Solution one)Plesk as control panel - fully managed Solution two)Directadmin as Control panel - Unmanaged actually i know how manage a vps because i manage my servers around 3-4 yr but for some reason i do not have enough time maybe just do server setup and initial setup at first, so what is your idea which one do you offer? both data center are good and have good uptime ( i test them) but actually i pleased with first data center (plesk and fully managed)because with 4 yr i do not have any downtime but in second i have 3 times downtime in 3 yr,
We have a variety of clients that we just put on various providers/platforms that we use for various reason. I've given up on HSphere though. I can see the versatility in this but I just don't have the time to invest learning the interface. What is a +++ though is HSphere platforms bundle in urchin--so for certain sites, we can turn urchin up on the fly.
Is there any hosts you guys recommend that have Enterprise grade email filtering. Part of the problem we have seen is just the level of spam filtering. Even with Pair, stuff was just coming through. For those with email in house -- great , as we just run the MX through Postini 1st and lock down SMTP on the FW side.
For some of our clients *with some minor hiccups* at times, we moved them to Google Apps. The spam filtering is just a +++ as much as I would like to get away from Google on the email. And yes, I am aware they own Postini now...
Back on to Webhosting.
I think we have found a couple of new guys to try For nix based hosting, I'm planning to move some sites to Medialayer. Support or just various emails between them is very good !
For windows, we are debating. I have to reach out to Karl over at Steadfast and or Wiretree to inquire...but I'm leaning on a Plesk Windows Shared or VPS.
Usability is key on the CP and Cpanel/Plesk is just so much easier than Hsphere.
For the *email aspects* that's tied into any hosting provider, Mosso was interesting - BUT just looking at status.mosso.com was frighting.
Installed plesk to my Centos VPS, I created Domain, and unselected Custom Error Documents, as i wanted to use htaccess for that since pleask custom error doese not support php files.
But when test the errors by visiting un-found page in my site, i do not get the error 404 page, and banned my self from my site to try if page 403 shows up , and it did not ..
All the errors Shown instaed of the pointed page the Borwser shows the custom Error from the borwser, For Example if you use Google browser.
I have a Reseller client that has a custom app that requires a virtual directory with special permissions. The app uses a MS Excel add-in as its front end on the user PC. Is there a way to register and publish this app for the resellers web sites without have to create the folder and set the permission by hand?
I purchased an ssl certificate and installed it in plesk via server->ssl certificates. I then followed the following guide to set up imap and pop to use my cert (instead of using the default i used my cert into) URL... Now I'm getting an issue with sending emails, something about SSLHandshakeException, and some clients can't even log in. MTs support mentioned this might have something to do with POODLE.
I have a VPS with 1&1 and i'm trying to customize the Control Panel hostname to mypcp.mycustomdomain.com...I have added mypcp A record for mycustomdomain.com pointing to the server's IP address.
Right now if I type the full URL: https://mypcp.mycustomdomain.com:8443 it works fine but if i type just mypcp.mycustomdomain.com:8443 it keeps loading until it times out but it never redirects to https.
When adding a subscription with a certain plan, I get this error"Error: The plan was not applied: Custom changes in PHP settings" almost instantly after I initiated the creation of the new subscription. Another service plan doesn't have the issue, and though I tried finding the reason why one works while the other doesn't I simply wasn't able to. The service plan in question is used for over 40 others without a problem just when I select it for a new subscription, I get the mentioned error message.I am using Plesk 12 on Linux, all latest updates installed.
Would like to know how to implement css and images to work with custom error documents. For some reason the folders are ignored even with the correct path being entered within the html. Only plain text appears.
All settings of the custom error page were made and worked correctly, however the next day the setting was lost after reset again and returned to work.
I have the web pro edition panel 12 on centos 6.5 64bit, and i have made some custom firewall rules in order to be able to run a teamspeak server. The problem is that the firewall randomly blocks the teamspeak port and keeps it blocked unless i restart the firewall.
We are successfully using fail2ban on our server (CentOS 6.6, Plesk 12.0.18), that is, jails running and blocking potential intruders
However, we tried to create a custom jail for the CMS that is being used by most of our clients.
I followed the instructions (Tools & Settings > IP Address Banning (Fail2Ban) > Jails > Manage Filters > Add Filter) and created the filter I wanted, but then it does not appear in the list, even though it displays a message reading that the filter was created successfully. Then, if I try to create a new Jail, the filter is not available from the list.
Looking at the directory /etc/fail2ban/filter.d/ I can find a file that has the same name as the filter I created, with a .local extension (the file name does not contain whitespaces or other special characters)...
Have some very important questions regarding changing plesk ports and creating full backups.
1. When changing plesks port number, what exactly will it effect? Will it effect auto updates, etc.?
2. When creating a backup, I'd like to backup the entire server to rollback at anytime when changes are made to core files, is this possible?
3. With backups, somehow I'd like to schedule backups to possibly make nightly copies to an external hard drive on my computer for a fail safe method just in case the server happens to crash and I'd need to restore to another server/service. How would this be possible?
As the admin user, change the setting for a particular email account called "The maximum number of outgoing email messages" to a value beyond the default. For example if the default is 35, set it to 75. This is common -- often we have customers who send larger quantities of messages than the average user.
Login as a reseller with access to manage the email account and attempt to change any *other* value. For example, you could completely ignore the outgoing mail messages value and change just the Auto-Reply value
Plesk refuses to allow the change and kicks me back to the first tab with the following error:
The value must be in the range 0..35. Only the Plesk administrator can adjust this setting.Click to expand...
I am trying to put together a 1U server, and this is the first time I've had to deal with the space constraints of a rackmount server.
I am toying with a RAID 10 setup, which requires 4 drives, so I am looking at 2.5" enterprise drives so that I can fit 4 into a 1U rack. The problem is I was on newegg and don't see any cases with 2.5" bays. Are there kits that convert 3.5" bays to 2x2.5" or something of this nature? Furthermore, I see here:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136260
that the 2.5" drive is inside a 3.5" brick. Can this be taken out of the mount? I don't see the point in paying extra for a 2.5" drive that only fits in a 3.5" slot.
I have read that in a 4-drive array, RAID 10 outperforms RAID 5. This seems counterintuitive to me because in RAID 5 there is essentially striping across 3 drives, and then parity on the 4th, whereas in 10, you would only have striping across 2 drives. Is this just because of the calculations involved in generating the parity?
I have been trying to get it to work for 3 days now, and just not having any luck at all. When I plug it in, the PSU fan comes on, and the green light on the motherboard flashes on and off. I have made sure all the connections on it are correct (to the best of my knowledge anyways, the manuals are ****) and it will not boot up.
This leads me to believe that either something is dead, or that the RAM is incorrect. All the parts I have were suggested by cwl@apaqdigital, so I assume they all will work together, but I need some help fast. Todays the last day I can RMA them to newegg.
this RAM isnt going to work. It was suggested, but after spending 3 days looking, thats all I can think of. It looks like this mobo only supports ECC Registered or ECC Unbuffered.
I have build PHP as CGI but now the function exec says with every command like uptime this error: [Thu Apr 16 10:28:37 2009] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] sh: uptime: command not found
This also happens when I do the command convert (yes Imagemagick is installed). Strange enough when I login with the permissions of the exame user I can do the commands through SSH without any problem.
I use DirectAdmin with custombuild. How can I resolve this? Am I required to build PHP to CLI to use the exec command?
I am making some business plans and having an independent datacenter is one of them. Certainly it isn't easy as leasing a space, and buy some stuff. Some of the things I have to watch out for are network activity, getting bandwidth support, power supply, get an engineering company to design the facility and a lot of stuff.
Are there any companies who handles all that? What would be the specific steps to accomplish my agenda?
when you purchase your server, do you usually purchase a branded server such as Dell, HP, IBM, etc or do go and buy each component, and build it yourself?
Is there some sort of checklist of all programs and settings that should take place when building a new web server? I am outsourcing a server build to a new consultant and I know that basics of what needs to be installed but I am sure I am missing a few things, most importantly security issues.
Does anyone have an input on this or links that I might find useful?
Here is what I know needs to be built: Free BSD Apache 2 PHP 5 Mysql 5 cPanel
I am wondering does anyone know of either a program/software, and/or script that will auto build a dedicated server? For example, someone purchase my product as soon as it is verified than it starts the building process and builds the server to what they asked for, partitioning, etc.?
I received a chassis from SuperMicro today. It came with a translucent thin piece of plastic (about as thin as a piece of paper). The plastic has holes cut out that are roughly the same as the holes in the mother board. What is this thing? Is it just a guide so you know where to put the mounting screws?
I might still be a bit too close to the newbie level to be trying this but I wanted upgrade various components of my cpanel install for security issues.
So I got openssl to update to 0.9.8g and that seemed to be working correctly.
