Cpanel + CentOS + Red5 Flash Media Server. Can It Work
Apr 17, 2009
I have VPS with CPanel and CentOS but i need to install Red5
can it work and can someone post a step by step tutorial host to install Red5. On Red5 web page is tutorial but when i try to install i get some errors and i have low experience in linux.
I am thinking about making a web site that streams HD movies and videos that I have created myself. I was wonder could you use Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server 3.5 to do so I know i would have to buy a dedicated server and a fast one with a good load of bandwidth. The big question am asking is that can you base a website or content management system around the interactive server.
I have a VPS server running on Windows 2003, and would like to stream live videos to about 50-80 people. I was wondering is there a way to have a FLASH based stream embed into my website, without paying for a software like Flash Media Server?
i want to install a red5 streaming server on FreeBSD6.2
The install was no problem and i get no errors.
So far so good.
But, i want to stream with the rtmp protocal so i used flv player to test. The link i tried was rtmp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/oflaDemo/Transformers.flv (standard red5 example file)
But i get nothing on the screen, i tried a lot of other urls but no succes, red5 seems to work (see below for details)
How can i test of red5 works after a standard installation?
I am going to be buying a dedicated server from kimsufi Most likely the 2XL Package.
My streamers will be using my server aswell, On weekends we will be running 3-4 streams at a time, weekdays 1-2 at a time.
Spreading all the streams out, at anyone time we will have 300 viewers.
I need to know your advice on this before i go spending money.
How do i convert my dedi into a flash media server, i need red5 or something, thats all i know so far. My streamers wil be streaming to server with FME, And i also want it coded so that my streams can only be embedded on my site.
Basically i dont have a clue where to start, how long would it take me to set up etc....
In addition, what kind of server do i need, windows / linux / traffic / burstable / standard etc..
Uvault.com does flash streaming media, features unlimited connections, and redundant servers. Has been around for a while and is a Macromedia Alliance Partner but I cant find any feedback on them anywhere.
Been fooling around with red5 too long now. I really need this app to work so I can use the audio/video option on my chat.
I'm willing to pay the person who can make red5 work on my linux centos server. I allready installed ant & red5, the java is just a bit to tricky for me.
Like I said, I'm willing to pay a fee for the person who can make the red5 work.
I have been fascinated by the Red5 streaming server and tried to configure it on my VPS , i could follow the instructions and get upto the demo page eventhogh most of the demo pages are not working , I believe this is a problem with the configuration and the location where the files should be uploaded after installation or the rtmp URL which should be used on the demo page for the demos to work, I have experinced the issue mainly with the oflademo.
I was quite dissappointed to see that there are not much docs available for post installation configuration of Red5 too for a normal person
I urge the members to develop this thread into a good tutorila on Installation and Configuration of Red5
However this is a completely new server, and at the moment nothing is really running on it (I haven't got any clients on this server yet, I'm still setting it up). Does that reading mean that around 3 GB of RAM is being *used*? Also, at first the server's mem usage was at about 1 GB, but it's slowly been increasing (again, without really running anything on the server).
Also, under WHM's Server Status page it says that "Memory Used" is "18.1%" - how come this is so different to the top reading?
I know that CentOS/linux overall handles memory different, so I'd appreciate any insight into things
I dont know whats wrong with my server having cpanel but many user complains that there flash animation not working on my server . it hanged during loading and always showing loading on page they provide me prove that its working on some other server.
how to optimize a server for playing flash videos?
Here is our website: operationsports.com
In the right menu you'll notice an embedded flash video player.
Often, we receive complaints that our videos are buffering slowly at the beginning causing the movie to stop/pause for a few seconds. After this pause the remainder of the video buffers lightening quick.
I'd like to remove the pause if possible.
The server is a dual processor linux based server dedicated entirely to our video files.
It has plenty of power.
how to optimize a server for playing flash videos smoothly?
I am currently hosting with Media Temple, but I completely hate plesk, and want cPanel on the server. I have even considered going to Mosso, but too expensive for what I need.
Here is my question, I have a (dv) server with MT, and am wondering, can I put cPanel on there instead of Plesk. I tried to search their knowledge base with no luck. I am currently on hold waiting for tech support, but I still have about 17 minutes so I figured I may get a quicker response here.
I found htop much more easier to understand than top and would like to install it on my cPanel CentOS server. I tried executing following command from root shell:
yum install htop
and got following output:
..................Reading repository metadata in from local files Excluding Packages in global exclude list Finished Parsing package install arguments No Match for argument: htop Nothing to do
Not sure if htop is available for CentOS cpanel servers? If so how can I install it?
Say I use about 1 TB of bandwith / month in media: images, small files, etc. What would be the best hosting option? Most shared hosting I've tried have booted me for using too many resources.
Any one know why media streaming server dont working?
I installed the media streaming server, 1 month ago and it was working well. However, from Thursday to now it dont working. I have checked and the wmv files only run 3seconds is broke. please tell me what the reasaon make my server doesnt working?
OS: Windows 2003 enterprise R2 Streaming Protocaol : MMS
my Hosting service (Hostway) offered Windows Media Server at the time. I wanted visitors to have the ability to quickly stream .wma's, so I went for the cost.
now...I'm unemployed; & money is real tight...so, I was thinking of dropping Hostway...going over to GoDaddy; & switching my means of musical delivery to .mp3's.
So:
1) How much slower is mp3 streaming from a conventional server than .wma from a dedicated server?
2) Is there a way to speed it (mp3) up (save decreasing file size)?
3) Will .wma's stream without the dedicated server; & if so...how is that implemented?
I really need to save money in this economy...but I don't want my listeners to suffer. Is that possible?
I have a vps at 3dgwebhosting I would like to install wms I get it installed but when I try to config. a live publishing point it ask for a url for the encoder and where where is it but also when I try to start the point it will not start can some one help?
Most people probably run Linux on their media servers, but since I don't know much about Linux and the media server we have is unmanaged, I was wondering how you guys feel about running Windows Server 2003 Std on a media server instead of Linux. We'll only be using the server to host Flash video files (.flv) and we'll be serving those vids on websites hosted on other servers, resulting in approx. 50,000-100,000 media views per day (filesizes range from approx. 5MB to 10MB). We don't want to run Windows Media Services, just a Web server (IIS6) and have the Flash video players on the external websites take care of the streaming/downloading part.
Although I can easily migrate the databases and website data, I am not certain what I should do with emails, as I have four clients whom all use emails.
