Co-Location & Dedicated Server Service Provider Game

Jun 3, 2007

This is serious, please do not find the thread as SPAM, waste of time, or useless. I'm doing my research while at it.

Current Provider: ThePlanet
CPU: Dual Core 3.2GHz (seeking 2.8GHz Dual Core or better)
Memory: 1GB (seeking 1GB or more or better; unknown technical specs)
Harddrives: 400GB Harddrive (seeking 400GB or more or better)
Cost: ~$320/month (seeking at this price or cheaper)
Bandwidth: 1500GB @ 100Mbps (seeking more than 1500GB, but @ 100Mbps)

So help me find providers other than ThePlanet (good hosting, but not good enough to help advance the webhosting business through over-selling). I am seeking for specs at, around, or close to the ones I gave above (monthly fee also). Reliability is a very important factor!

Cheap Dedicated Game Server

Feb 20, 2008

I am looking for a dedicated server to host a game server for Garry's Mod, (which can be VERY cpu intensive) I am having trouble, because my budget is limited to about $75 a month. Colocation is an option, but only if it is cheap (I have someone who will provide a server)

Dedicated Server IP Location

Oct 12, 2008

I ordered a dedicated server with the datacenter located in Los Angeles, California.

When I check all the IPs of my dedicated server, I see they are located in New York.

Maybe a stupid question, but does it mean that my Dedicated server is located in New York?

I know that support is based in Los Angeles, so does it mean that they are doing remote support of my server? And not In site?

Location Of Dedicated Server Providers

Aug 28, 2008

I plan on doing a small, well maybe not too small project and I was wondering if you guys can help me out. I am familiar with some server companies but what I need is strategic locations across the US.

Only dedicated server providers and NOT resellers.

The breakdown:

US EAST
-NYC
-NJ
-Washington D.C.

US WEST
-Seattle
-LA
-SD
-SF

US MIDWEST
-TX
-CH

US SOUTH
-Miami
-Georgia

I know a few, but I will be looking at this list, your suggestions and buying servers from the companies. Please also list your personal experiences with said companies. I will not take Aug 2008 registration with 1 Post count seriously. This is a serious project and I have some money to spend. Let's just say enough to cover the expenditures and then some.

Best Dedicated Server Provider

Oct 22, 2008

Our company are soon to launch and we are in desperate need of a dedicated server so our coder can code all of our sites and upload them. We have a server with thevpsguy.com which has been down since last Monday! I have only received very limited support from Ian the owner and now I am beginning to give up hope on him sorting anything out because he ignores all my emails and makes false promises.

Who are the best dedicated server providers?

I want someone with good support, but I still like the personal touch so not huge companies.

Top 5 Things To Say About Any Dedicated Server Provider

Nov 4, 2009

My friend asked me that, "Hey! How are you doing? I am thinking about buying hosting from this new-webhosting-company-to-me.com . What do you think?"

I replied him that,

"Well, I had a server with them.. Let me tell you something about them,"

"Value for money: 4/5 points" (their hardwares are worthy)
"Setup Time: 3/5 points" (they took 2 days to setup. But i read 24 hours setup time on their homepage)

"Friendly Support: 5/5" (those dudes were skill full and friendly when i asked for os reinstall and other support requests)

"Datacenter/Infrastructure: 4/5" ("good network and I got 2 hours downtime only once")

==================================

Well, I said above 4 things to consider, before buying from a host.

What would be your top 5 considerations about any host to recommend your friend?

Fed Up With Hostgator Can Any One Suggest Best Managed Dedicated Server Provider

Aug 5, 2008

This is first time i am writing about hostgator using there service since 4 years.

I have 3 dedicated servers purchased with them within last 6 months and orderd for 4th server on 31st Aug 08. And now as business is growing i will need more and more servers every 2- 3 month. But its seems hostgator is not interested in business as they had already grown now. Even they don't care of their loyal customers who are them with years.

On 3rd day of orderd they told me my server will be deliverd within next 24 hours and on 4th day i contact them serveral times they keep on repiting they will upate and then they said server is out of stock and will be available soon and today is 5th day still there is no reply from them and when i contact them they clearly have no idea about it. Some says will get it soon and when i show my ticket. they say its still out of stock . When i contact with theplant.com datacenter they told me the server is available to order and are never out of stock.

I dont know whats actual reason.

Please help me guys to find good manage dedicated server host so i can cancel my order with them and go to another good company.

Znetindia.com - Bad Service Provider

Sep 22, 2008

Stay away form znetindia.com Once you paid them than forget about money and your website.

No service person available, no matter so many times you calls them, mail them or submit a ticket for support.

Just make you run round and round and in end will ask you to call on next day and again on next day no one available for you but all are busy with meeting.

I call them on 21st Sept-2008 in morning and a person assure me that he will transfer my request to increase bandwidth to concern department and within 30 minutes my site will be live.

24 hrs. Passed and still my site is down, on 22nd Sept-2008 I call them again, one person with very poor Hindi knowledge attend my phone call after 2 minutes of waiting and replied that all are busy in meeting and ask me to call latter, when I ask him when the meeting will over, he replied don't know!

After that I submit ticket & mail them to provide me service as soon as possible. One lady calls me back and assures me to provide service in 30 minutes.

After 2 hrs, still site is down, I called them and another person attend phone and show his inability to provide me service saying that all RESPONSIBLE PERSON LEFT OFFICE and now I need to wait till 10.30am of 23rd Sept-2008

So nearly 72 hrs my site is down & even they reject my request to make my site live and I will pay for extra bandwidth or upgrading the account.

What a pity that such company ruined Indian Hosting Service Providers Name too.

I NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.

we havent even began to advertise the game and expand it, it will reach thousands of players easely... we would need atleast 2 highend boxes to split up the database from the webserver.

Unacceptable Behavior From A Service Provider

Sep 13, 2007

I'm not going to out the provider before I hear their explanation of it, but I've just had a very unnerving experience with a VPS provider.

Last night my server was experiencing latency issues, but I thought nothing of it until the server went down. I thought the network went down, but it appears that the server went down for emergency maintenance. That's fine, but it would have been nice if they alerted me of it. It went back down an hour later, so I sent my provider an email asking why I could not access my server and if they were aware of the problem.

I receive a response from someone asking for my root password and that they would take a look (he is referring to the latency issue I mentioned, but I was still completely unable to access the server at this poihnt, so I could have cared less about latency -- I just wanted the server up!). I explained the server was still down and asked if he knew anything about it, and this is when he told me about emergency maintenance that had to be done on the server. I also asked if he could ping my server (wondering if it was just a problem on my side), and he responded that he could if he "unpaused the server". He then asked me again to send my root password to diagnose the pinging issue. I think nothing of this email and went to sleep, expecting the issue to be fixed in the morning.

I wake up this morning and my server is still down, but now it's apparent that the host is fine, so I shoot back another email asking why my server has been paused. Fast forward 3 hours, I get a reply with him telling me that I was evasive about giving my password -- I would have gladly given a temporary root password, but I wasn't about to send over my regular password in cleartext over email. This is the part that really bothers me. He then told me that he looked around the files on my server to see if I were hiding anything. I cannot understand how me not giving my root password means I am hiding something. My server was down -- I couldn't change my root password to give to them since they had it paused. If I were abusing bandwidth, I could understand.

All this just because I didn't give him my root password? Am I in the wrong?

Singlehop - 1 Year Review Of Dedicated Server And Customer Service

Sep 23, 2009

just want to say this forum kicks some serious arse. It helped me out tremendously with a potential scam that I almost got myself caught in this morning. Secondly, since I am on here posting this morning I might as well post up a one year review of Singlehop.com and the dedicated server I am using.

My websites hosted on rig: www.svtsnake.com, www.nsgcenter.com, www.nextlevelhardware.com
My host: SingleHop
My sales rep: Miguel Villegas
My hosting package: Dedicated Server E8400, 2GB ram, 250GB HDD (non raid), Plesk CP with 5 domain license.
My monthly pricing: 189.00 even per month

At the beginning of my term about a year ago I was achieving 2.1 to 3.0 MB/s throughput down and close to 500 KB/s up which is excellent and really incredible for working on SSH Secure Shell for me with uploading and downloading DB files, etc. At this current point in time I have noticed a minor decrease in speed to around 1.5 MB/s download speeds and at nighttime hours around 700K, which is more than ample and still excellent IMO as you will see in this picture: http://nsgcenter.com/dlspeed.jpg

I am very happy with overall throughput of the server at almost all hours. You can check out overall network response time and server DB response by playing around with the vbulletin database I run at svtsnake.com. There is always a huge amount of concurrent users and never any slowdown.

Something else incredible for me with Singlehop so far is network downtime. I can honestly say, since my latest term with them. I was also a customer a few years ago and had a few issues with server downtime that I ceased being a customer with them because of it. However, I was refunded an compensated in a timely matter and everything was taken care of immediately.

However, it seems that as of recently they have improved there infrastructure tremendously because I have NOT been down for 1 second in over 7 months. Even when they schedule downtine, my server has never noticed it. My uptime has been 100% for every single day that I have owned this server on Singlehop.com.

There is one issue that I can say I am very unhappy with, and it is an issue where all partys can be blamed even including myself. I am well aware that there policy states after 3 days of non payment they can shut down server connection. So, I was a customer for seven months when a new single hop account executive named Miguel Villegas joined the team and was my representative. I had changed my cell phone and never updated the file, and at the same time I own multiple businesses and frequently close and open different credit/debit/rewards cards to be used for processing payment. Note that I have never missed a payment with them up until this point. The payment was do on like the 18th of the month or something, and I received the invoice thinking that my credit card on file was automatically going to pay my bill like it always does. But it just so happens that the credit card I had on file with singlehop was stolen at a nightclub in NYC called MansionNYC, and I was pick pocketed. I lost all of my credit cards that night and called up to report all of them stolen. So, obviously I was issued new credit card and I was waiting for them to issue me new cards in the mail and new numbers, which took about 3 to 5 days with most companys. So, here I am 3 days late for payment and I wake up one morning and ALL of my websites are completely shut down. No notification, no warning, just closed and I got an email from Miguel Villegas my account representative explaing that my server was turned off until I remit payment.

I called up Singlehop and I was furiated, yelled almost at the top of my lungs that they simply just shut off a server, after 3 days of payment. Especially in a situation like this and they never even called me up to let me know they were doing this because my cell phone was different on file - which was mis-communication on my part. At this point in time I called up my bank HSBC and got an emergency debit card number to make the payment to Miguel through email and my server was re-activated.

But, 3 days after invoice is due to just cancel someones server or suspend it is definitely not good business policy. I have been a customers for almost a year and the whole incident was a fluke, they didnt have to suspend the server. In my business, we give a customer at least 30 days to pay a bill. But thats not the point, I know there policy states you have 3 days to remit payment or policy account suspension. But I think that is a horrendous policy, especially for emergency situations like I was in. What happens if the owner of a business is dying of an anyeurism in the hospital and is 3 days late with his web payment for his website, does singlehop simply suspend his 16 million hit per month vbulletin forum just because of lack of communication and payment?

I am still a longstanding customer with Singlehop but felt I needed to share that story with everyone. So, yes I am very happy with quality of service, speed of service, tech support, packages offered. But, I am very upset about there payment policy regarding 3 days of lack of payment that just aint right. I really like the attitude and business practices of the execs at the company and they are going to hate me for the negative feedback of my one bad incident with them, but overall Singlehop has my business and will have my business UNTIL either the server is offline every other week, or my DB crashes due to SInglehop issues. LOL Neither I think will be happening anytime soon.

Thanks for reading everyone. If anything, I hope Singlehop reads this and considers modifying there policy regarding server suspension and lack of payment maybe to something more like 10 to 15 days. Not 3 days.

Good Colocation Service Provider In Hong Kong

Nov 15, 2007

our company just decided to buy two servers in Hong Kong and colocate them there. Does anyone know a reputable hosting company (data center) in Hong Kong that offers colocation service?

we hope the hosting company/data center can buy the servers for us - probably give us a few choices with different configurations and prices so we can pick two middle level servers. Is this something a typical data center/hosting company can help us with?

up-time is not critical for our website, but we want a hosting company (data center) we can work with for many years, therfore it has to be a stable and reputable (maybe large) company/center.
