Fed Up With Hostgator Can Any One Suggest Best Managed Dedicated Server Provider
Aug 5, 2008
This is first time i am writing about hostgator using there service since 4 years.
I have 3 dedicated servers purchased with them within last 6 months and orderd for 4th server on 31st Aug 08. And now as business is growing i will need more and more servers every 2- 3 month. But its seems hostgator is not interested in business as they had already grown now. Even they don't care of their loyal customers who are them with years.
On 3rd day of orderd they told me my server will be deliverd within next 24 hours and on 4th day i contact them serveral times they keep on repiting they will upate and then they said server is out of stock and will be available soon and today is 5th day still there is no reply from them and when i contact them they clearly have no idea about it. Some says will get it soon and when i show my ticket. they say its still out of stock . When i contact with theplant.com datacenter they told me the server is available to order and are never out of stock.
I dont know whats actual reason.
Please help me guys to find good manage dedicated server host so i can cancel my order with them and go to another good company.

I work for a small web design firm with about 100 clients/domains and we are starting the search for a new hosting provider. We need a managed dedicated server with an offsite backup. We are also looking for a company that knows what they are talking about. If we have a Linux or server question they need to be able to give us a quick straight answer. Also, if they could help us transfer all our hosting accounts from our current server over to the new one that would be a BIG plus.
We have been thinking about Rackspace or 1and1.com but were wondering what the community thought. Any recommendations?

I recently moved my sites to HostGator's basic server and their service totally shocked me.
It's crazy. I've been around for some time and have used MANY dedicated servers and collocation service providers.
The level of service I was getting from HostGator caught me off guard, in a very good way.
First, I got the server setup within 24 hours of ordering, I got the server log in details and to my surprised HostGator was THE FIRST company who actually done their initial server configuration very properly.
I noticed it right away by seeing the initial server's root password which are using some 128 random string.
This alone shows they are managing their servers seriously, unlike some providers which gives my initial root passwords as myname3893 something like that, that's just plain crazy.
Secondly, I had some issues with EasyApache not doing update properly. I went to Live Chat right away, talked to their tech support and the guy tried to check what was going on and doesn't know how to fix it. Believe me, if I didn't know how to fix that, I am sure it requires advanced sysadmin attention.
I was expecting the issue to be solved in a day or two, but to my surprise it was solved within a few hours of my live chat session. Hmmm that is impressive.
Second case, I was getting confused on why my /usr partition keep getting full all the time. I tried checking apache logs and stuff, cleared all logs and it is still full.
Again, I went to live chat, the same thing happened, but this time it was solved on the spot.
The live chat guy had to ask a sysadmin, but it was solved on the spot and I only waited for 5 minutes while it was being worked on.
Before my eyes, the disk space was freed, and it was from an unusual log file piling up, they even let me know the exact problem that was causing it to prevent this to happen in the future.
It's just crazy, I know HG has an outstanding reputation on their shared hosting customer service, but I totally did not expect the same level of instantaneous service also applies to their dedicated server line.
For those of you who are looking for a dedicated server FOR HOSTING PURPOSES, like to sell web hosting, I highly recommend HostGator way beyond any other server provider.
Because with HG you not only get the server, but along with their experiences doing shared hosting, the last thing you should be concern about is your server not properly configured for shared hosting.
Because with HG's server, their boxes seems to be highly configured for hosting environment, out of the box.
Just amazing, rock on HG, with the way things are, I do think it is very possible for them to be one of the major players in the dedicated sector.
Beware other providers, keep an eye of your customer service response time and solution time, before a big gator eats up your clients

I had posted the review a week back but for some reason everything went bazook with WHT.
I lost all my posts but am making an attempt to write the review again of my exp with HG.
Well, I had been with these guys for close to 14 months. I never knew there was bright world beyond HG for dedicated server untill I came to WHT. I had taken a xeon 2.4 with 2 gb ram for $219 everything was fine untill the server started giving me problems off late. It was supposed to be a managed server but these guys had just no clue whatso ever on any kinda problem. The took like close to 12 hours just to figure out the problem which was an issue with fan.
Imagine they were putting the blame game on me till they figured out it was a problem with the hardware(fan). When I went to claim refund for meeting the SLA, they told me that it was my fault and the onus was on me to ensure the server is up and running. WTF? How do you expect me find and why do you think I took managed service if the onus was on me to make sure the server is up and running.
That wasn't the end of my horror story. I don't remember the number of times I had to suffer with restarting the Apache / Mysql and downtime and when I did goto them, they said my RAM usage is too much. Hmmm when I further digged out and I felt cheated when I found out that they gave me a cheap DDR-200 MHZ RAM which is way outdated technology. I was like WTF? All those problems were because of that Cheap DDR-200 MHZ RAM for which they were charging me a bomb.
Imagine they gave me a trash Hardware and charging me a bomb for that crap and they kept blaming me for it.
I scrapped my Xeon 2.8 to Q9550 for a bit more but it was worth it.

I'm trying to find a reliable and established host (not a junior company that may close anytime) that offers a low end managed dedicated server.
My minimum requirements:
2.0 Ghz processor
1 GB RAM
100 GB disk
250 GB bandwidth
Managed
Good support
Reliable and established host
I can't go with a VPS because the site I'm developing is growing very fast, there are some times where CPU usage is a bit too high. My current VPS host has asked me to move that site to a dedicated server, and they are right. With more CPU and memory the site will be alright, but I don't want to risk having to move again, so no VPS this time.
The reason I'm looking for a low end server is that the site is not self-supporting yet, so I can't afford to pay more that 150$/month.
If money wasn't an issue, I would already have picked Liquidweb, their current special allowed me to build a nice server for only 229$/month, but I'm not ready to commit that kind of money yet.

I am setting up a website that may generate a lot of traffic, though it is just starting out.
Since I'm not sure how easy the migration from a VPS to dedicated server will be (yes, I'm a newbie to all this!), I want to go with a dedicated server.
Since the site is going to be a revenue generator, I don't want to go low on quality - but don't want to spend over $150 pm.
I'm looking for something managed/with guaranteed uptime. A good bandwidth.
I will be running a MySQL database as well as the LAMP based website on the same server initially (later I may separate the database).

I'm thinking of adding Managed Dedicated Server in my services. I'm also currently looking for the right provider, so I can just simply resell his/her service.
But this is my first time to be involve on this service and I would like to ask some advise from the expert people of WHT.
-What are the important things that I need to consider if I offer the Managed Dedicated Server which is also offered by another provider? It's like reselling their service.
-What are the important things that I need to know for my possible clients? What are the usual requirements of many businesses when it comes of having managed dedicated server?
-What are the important/ideal security measures for a dedicated server?

the server guys seems to be totally helpless and i am waiting to get access to the server so that i can get my latest backups.
i guess i really cannot survive with a company which take 8 hours to respond to a reboot request.
i need suggestions for dedicated managed directadmin server. my sites were apparently attacked by sql injection crapware and i am looking for a company which can help me protect the server from such attacks.

I have the idea to consolidate about 10 hosting accounts (1and1, dreamhost, etc), into one dedicated/managed server.
I was wondering what recommendations from reliable providers can i get, for about 99/m.
The accounts are very low profile, i mean, about 500 users at most for all accoutns (about 50 users per account).
The first option at 1and1 feels about right, [url] but i was wondering if there is something better.
And by better, i mean more reliable, better support, more "care for the customer".
i also thought about VPS, but checking the price differences, at least in 1and1, it doesn't makes much sense.

Are there any providers out there that can actually attest that they are fully PCI compliant? Meaning, they know the meaning of the phrase, have looked at the requirements, has their network/servers scanned by a 3rd party, etc.?
I looked at the following document and the only recognizable host I see is Rackspace:
[url]
Our e-commerce software platform, merchant gateway, and internal network is and will be PCI compliant. But now I'm down to finding a managed dedicated web host who is.

Our company are soon to launch and we are in desperate need of a dedicated server so our coder can code all of our sites and upload them. We have a server with thevpsguy.com which has been down since last Monday! I have only received very limited support from Ian the owner and now I am beginning to give up hope on him sorting anything out because he ignores all my emails and makes false promises.
Who are the best dedicated server providers?
I want someone with good support, but I still like the personal touch so not huge companies.

We have 2 servers which run our website. One for data (about 50gb) and one for databases (about 5gb)
We currently perform offsite backups but we want to improve upon these. Our main objectives are:
1) Be able to recover as much info as possible in the event of a disaster
2) Be able to rollback to a previous version should we not notice a problem until later (ie 30 day history?)
3) Be able to restore as quickly as possible
4) Be able to afford it!
The options we seem to have are:
A) Use a service such as backupdirect.net which specialise in offsite backup and have specialised software to handle this. Obviously we get support, the backups are encrypted, etc and probably will end up with a much more robust backup solution.
However, it will take time to restore, if our server goes down we still have to get that working then perform the restore
B) Buy another dedicated server, which we can run everything on (albeit slowly!) and keep a 'live backup' on this server. This means we could switch to it should our main servers die for any reason with minimal downtime. Downsites would mean we have less support, would have to be careful with encryption of the data flowing from one server to another and we would have a less formal backup solution (eg harder to restore back to a point in time)

Is there any VPS Provider that does Managed Hosting but also as part of that managed service, installs 3rd party scripts whenever needed?
I have been using Future Hosting and they were providing this for me but have been told today that they have changed their policy and will no longer install 3rd Party scripts.

My friend asked me that, "Hey! How are you doing? I am thinking about buying hosting from this new-webhosting-company-to-me.com . What do you think?"
I replied him that,
"Well, I had a server with them.. Let me tell you something about them,"
"Value for money: 4/5 points" (their hardwares are worthy)
"Setup Time: 3/5 points" (they took 2 days to setup. But i read 24 hours setup time on their homepage)
"Friendly Support: 5/5" (those dudes were skill full and friendly when i asked for os reinstall and other support requests)
"Datacenter/Infrastructure: 4/5" ("good network and I got 2 hours downtime only once")
==================================
Well, I said above 4 things to consider, before buying from a host.
What would be your top 5 considerations about any host to recommend your friend?
