I was going to buy a dedicated web server with this 3 specs.
I will only host 10 slots CW servers so keep in mind that they are not full all the time. No websites will be hosted on the machine nor TS (have special VPS for it). Can someone tell me how many Counter Strike server I can approximately create on this 3 configurations: ...
i run a browser based game in (php/mysql/javascript) and i currently have noticing with the growing numbers of players that my shared hosting is not going to handle the load, obviously. i am not sure if this is the right place to ask but are there any hosting companies out there willing to negotiate a deal where they provide hosting for such a thing in return of advertising? we havent even began to advertise the game and expand it, it will reach thousands of players easely... we would need atleast 2 highend boxes to split up the database from the webserver.
I am looking for a dedicated server for my flash games site. I am currently using 1and1.com for a Titan 16gb ram, 6gb monthly transfer(bandwidth) but not enough. I end up paid almost $2k last month. So I am need is at least 15-20gb bandwidth monthly transfer and about 8gb ram....
I am looking for a dedicated server to host a game server for Garry's Mod, (which can be VERY cpu intensive) I am having trouble, because my budget is limited to about $75 a month. Colocation is an option, but only if it is cheap (I have someone who will provide a server)
This is serious, please do not find the thread as SPAM, waste of time, or useless. I'm doing my research while at it.
Current Provider: ThePlanet CPU: Dual Core 3.2GHz (seeking 2.8GHz Dual Core or better) Memory: 1GB (seeking 1GB or more or better; unknown technical specs) Harddrives: 400GB Harddrive (seeking 400GB or more or better) Cost: ~$320/month (seeking at this price or cheaper) Bandwidth: 1500GB @ 100Mbps (seeking more than 1500GB, but @ 100Mbps)
So help me find providers other than ThePlanet (good hosting, but not good enough to help advance the webhosting business through over-selling). I am seeking for specs at, around, or close to the ones I gave above (monthly fee also). Reliability is a very important factor!
First I would like to start by explaining my past and current situation.
When I was in High School I created a web game called Jinopets.com that was intended for me to learn how to Code PHP and to create things with a couple of friends.
However, within 3 days the game exploded and receiving large amounts of hits and users by nothing but word of mouth. Before I knew what to do, my host said the price of my next month was going to go up from $5 to $50, and at the time I knew nothing about web hosting and was making (barely) enough money from Google Ad-sense so I gladly paid them to continue working on the game.
As the site got larger, the host continued to ask for large amounts of money until I could no longer afford the game because the host was kicking me off of his hosting because I was simply taking up too much of his space.
(I was going to link my daily usage data here, but apparently I have to post 5 times first to add links.)
Now, there is more.
I am NOT hosting the same game, but I am expecting similar numbers just increased a bit higher with a few differences.
This game extensively uses PHP GD Image Functions to generate images for characters and map data. So I expect the server load to be much higher. But PHP GD Image Functions must be on the server, Which I do not anticipate to be a problem.
What is the recommended solution for web hosting? I live in a fairly remote area and could not host my own server, but I am afraid of being removed from a hosting plan again after what happened last time.
Looked around the site but I am so new to this that I could not tell if anyone had asked about a situation that was truly similar.
I am trying to find a good host for the promotion, download, purchase and forum for an indie game.
I estimate 220 gig per month at our peak. We have good programmers but we know nothing about web hosting. We just have one guy who made a website with Joomla once. (we will probably be using this to build our website.) We are looking for 30$ to 50$ range. Is this silly?
Have googled it but prices and services varied so wildly that I was forced to believe that some of them were lies.
I use shared web hosting service to get my website online. I'm wondering how many people use dedicated servers or virtual private servers instead and pay from $20 to several hundreds of dollars? Will I face any big problem with shared web hosting package which makes me choose dedicated servers?
Does a typical LAMP setup for a high enough traffic site(s) take enough resources to affect the performance of a game server? (we'll say 1million page views per day)
I'm speaking of say, 2MB of ram, dual xeon 2.8 type machine, with IDE drives. Nothing too fancy. 1 milion page views per day may be pushing it, so what about say, 200 per day?
Just wondering if anyone has a setup like this and how it fairs out at the game server end. I'm thinking of moving my websites over to my game server + add more sites over time, but don't want it to lag the game. I know as a fact bandwidth would not be the issue, I'm thinking more ram/cpu. The game I host (Ultima Online) uses very little bandwidth with even 30+ people online. I use less then 1% of my link capacity at most times. I've seen it spike to 5% and that's most likely when I was downloading data.
I am developing a website for a client of mine (the client is a close friend and know's that he is getting a newbie). This site will be larger (project wise) than anything that I have ever done (everything I have done in the past has been FrontPage). We will be using several third party applications that need to run on the server as well as our own custom developed applications. We do not yet know how much access to the server's deeper structures we will need for all of the applications that we want loaded on our server to run. Things we have in mind: oscommerce, mysql, php5, apache, linux, vbulletin, blogger, phpbb, adserver, ect... Would these things run ok on a shared host and would I have full authority to configure them without needing full access to the server? Or will I need access to the entire server (dedicated server) in order to have full customization capabilities? I guess all I am trying to figure out at this point is will shared hosting for a large project limit our abilities to use 3rd party apps, or do most 3rd party application designers build their stuff to work in a shared hosting environment anyway? If we need to get a dedicated server we will, but if we can get away with shared hosting for a while (especially during development when the site will not be generating revenue) it would be nice to avoid the price of a dedicated server. Many thanks for your comments, insight, and expertise! Also, if anyone can sight some common scenarios that may require a dedicated server over a shared hosting plan, that may help me to understand what the limitations of a shared hosting plan vs. a deicated or virtual dedicated server are.
I'm new to the VPS scene, so could someone tell me the difference between VPS and say shared hosting or dedicated hosting? Actually I really like to know what a Virtual Private Server actually is.. I know shared hosting is typically a single account on a server with several hundred other accounts which is used primarily for the sole purpose of hosting websites, and I know that dedicated hosting is functionally the same as colo except that you rent the server, instead of having your own purchased server plugged into some network. So what is VPS?
Do website builders generally go with shared hosting or dedicated server? I mean, if they work on several websites would they get a dedicated server instead of shared? From what I understand through reading shared hosting is basically if you only have one website. So one with multiple websites would go with a dedicated server?
How long do you wait before moving from shared to VPS or dedicated? Apart from security and speed, what are the benefits of dedicated hosting? This says [url] that shared is better than dedicated because you have to do less..
Hey guys im starting up an Adult Website and i'm looking for a web hosting company that can offer me hosting at a good price, ddos protected and doesnt have to be in the usa/canada can be off shore...
I have been using reseller hosting from siteground for a few months now, but as my site grew, I had to switch to dedicated hositng. I ordered a dedicated server from ovh, which is not managed (or so I think), so I had to install everything by myself. I created an ftp account for myself and installed webmin (dont want to pay for cpanel), so here's my question; how do I host my website on this server? Where is the public_html folder located?
I have a domain registered and all I need to do is upload the files to the new server and change the dns. Any help?
I am planning to move my hosting from SHARED to either VPS / Dedicated / Cloud Hosting(MOSSO) . I am quite confused because:
1. I tried lunarpages VPS, they dont offer multiple MSSQL DB. THey offer only 1 and LIMITED to 1 GB. 2. Dedicated from lunarpages also has some limitations. 3. I heard something called as "cloud hosting" from mosso - Cloud sites, Cloud Files, Cloud servers.. I really dont understand what it means..
Can you please help?
I NEED:
1. Windows hosting - ASP, unlimited MSSQL DB and atleast 10GB space. The site will have atleast 100K visitors / month.
Hi guys, We recently created an application and are now looking to become a ASP and are the the market for a dedicated server. A bit of a background on the application a) users will fill a search form on a client website b) the search results will be displayed from the dedicated box. c) the user can then click on a LINK result and then be taken to another third party server software. d) expect around 15000 unqiue hits e) using json / jquery f) Average data being transferred per search 500 kb (compressed using firebug/yslow)+ data base updates (1 perday / 40 mb) My Question is 1) What kind of dedicated box am i looking for to handle that kind of traffic a) personally was thinking of quad core / 4 gb ram / 150 gb / 250gb storage drive) b) would a lesser config do ? 2) Will a managed vps solution work in this sort of situation 3) i am really looking at 60-120$ range / server - Managed ? is that realistic ? 4) Or do I go for management somewhere else ? I know have asked too many questions..but hope you can help demystifying a few of the above. Thanks Andy
we have about 10 servers in iweb.ca , iweb is good but account managers support are very poor ! for example when I need to upgrade my server I should contact my account manager and my account manager answer to my email after 2 weeks ! (if he answer)so I want to transfer my servers to another company ,
In a few months I will be searching for a semi-dedicated plan, I'm going to spend around $230 a year. I would go with my current host on semi-dedicated but their plan is about 2 to 3 times over my price.
My site is currently on a shared hosting plan is doing fairly well but I'm also looking to expand the site and therefore I will need a semi-dedicated plan.
I'm not familiar with semi-dedicated since I have always used shared hosting and have a few sites on different shared hosting plans. So any tips you can provide when searching for a semi-dedicated or questions I can ask would really be helpful.
Now I know there is a offers section here on WHT but I'm not looking for offers, I'm looking for recommendations from users who have used a semi-dedicated plan that's around my price range. I'm not looking for dedicated, nor VPS, just semi-dedicated. I will be purchasing a semi-dedicated plan around November of this year.
I'm no newb to shared hosting but I am new and unfamiliar with what to look for in semi-dedicated hosting plans.
