Looking For A Cheap VPS Provider (Unmanaged, Internet Relay Chat IRC Allowed)
Nov 4, 2009I'm looking for a cheap VPS on which IRC is allowed. I must also be able to edit/change the RDNS record for the IP.
Specs
OS: any BSD or Linux distribution
RAM: 64 MB
Connection: 100mbit burst
Monthly bandwidth: 500 MB
HDD: 5 GB
Control Panel: None
It does not matter where the server is hosted, and whether it's a Xen or OpenVZ VPS.
I searched the forums already and contacted a few providers (fivebean, echoservers, joinvps). Looking for a few more to choose from.

May 22, 2008I want to set up a website that will run rapidleech and torrentflux. But my shared hosting account just isn’t cutting it anymore. It worked for awhile, but then they set stupid php resource limitations in and the scripts don’t work anymore. So I want an upgrade.
Should I look at VPS or Dedicated? I don’t want to spend more than $50/month, so I’m guessing that a crappy dedicated server is all I can get. There are some specific things that I would like to be able to do with my account.
1. WinRAR – I need to be able to pack and unpack files in the winrar format on my website through FTP. Would I need Linux/Unix or Windows hosting for this? I honestly am clueless about this.
2. Ability to run Rapidleech and TorrentFlux
3. Do I need to look for hosting that gives “root access” whatever that means? Someone told me that if I want to install WinRAR I must have “root access.”

Oct 19, 2007This is probably a dumb question, but I've been curious about something. While shopping around for either a cheap dedicated server (less than $75/mo) or a cheap colo for a 1u server, I have noticed that the cheap dedicated servers are often less than a cheap colo, which seems odd to me since with a colo you bring your own machine.
For example, Sago Networks has cheap dedicateds for $50, $59, $79 etc. yet their cheapest colo option is $99. For Sago's $50 dedicated you get 1000GB transfer and 2 IP's, and with their $99 colo you get only get 100 GB transfer and 1 IP.
And Sago is not unusual in this respect. I've priced other providers that fall into this category and they have similar differences.
So why is colo more expensive than dedicated for similar, if not lower, features?

Apr 29, 2008i have Made a VPs on my Own dedicated Server Which i use to run TorrentFlux for Personal Use.
I am facing a few problems and dont know where to askf or help.
when i start more than about 12, i get errors in SSh (if i llogin) or th4e Apache Restarts killing all the Transfers.
I ahve 2 Gb Ram, Dual Core CPU.
the Error Via SSh is:
sh: pipe error: Too many open files in system
and i ahve attached a Errors Log From Apache.
i am a Noob in Servers so i ahve Lxadmin Contorl Panel Installed and the Log is generated by it.

The problem is that I can't turn Off mod_Security for a certain domain (just the /admin folder)
first I have tried this:
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
and got the error :
Invalid command 'SecFilterEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
than tried this:
SecRuleEngine ctl:ruleEngine=Off
and
SecRuleEngine Off
one, at a time and got the same error for bouth:
SecRuleEngine not allowed here

It can be either:
a) Ignore DMCA Notices - Much easyier as it saves us the trouble.
b) Forward all notices to us to reply and we handle and delete offending files.

Win2003 Max Memory Allowed

* /PAE is enabled to use more than 4GB memory

* I can see 8GB installed in the Task Manager
* This server is not for hosting but for running some cpu intensive applications. (I am not into webhosting industry)
But the maximum I ever seen been used is 4.66GB, and after that I run often into "Memory allocation failed" "Out of memory exception" application error.
How to use the full 8gb? Or is my box configured to use 8gb? Or is it dependent on application. Do I need a memory manager third-party software?

Apr 3, 2009Out of the blue today every email sent through our domain is bouncing with the following message:
Remote SMTP Server Returned: 553 Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts.
The server has been fine for over a month and email has been working properly. The only one with access to the server is me and I haven't done anything. We are receiving email just not able to send.
This server is running Windows 2008, IIS7, and the control panel is Plesk 8.6. It is running Mailenable as the email server.
Has anyone experienced this with a similar setup and can you help me fix it?
I have exhausted all recommendations from google searches. All my DNS and MX records are setup properly as well as my relay settings on the server.
