I've been carrying some weird hours lately, so I'm able to see activity on my sites that I normally don't see.
Certain IPs are trying to diddle their things into my server and need the boot. It's not consistent (ie not happening every 5, 10 mins)... it's periodically throughout the months. I'll see an IP I blocked 2 months ago just randomly show up at 4:30am and try accessing the same files it was probing during it's last visit. Assuming this is just some sort of bot, can I block it permanently?
I know APF has a collection system that purges an IP list to keep it from bloating, and I had PSM do some hardening so I'm not entirely sure about the workings of APF firewall. So far my IP blocks are blank (which is a good sign!), but I'd like to add some nuisances to it, to keep their crap from appearing in my error logs anymore as "Denied by Server Configuration"
My question is: Can I block people at server level permanently? I do not want their IP being taken out with the purge list that comes by every so often.
I'm tired of india people hitting our website (because it is a top hit on google and the others) then calling the next day to bug me to use them for outsourcing.
I am going to block some IP blocks in my .htaccess file to prevent this.
I can see from my statcounter logs that the hits from india so far have come from 59.* 102.* and 203.* (as in 59.###.###.###).
Is there a place I can lookup to find out if I block those, will I will also be blocking some north america IPs (since I'm using such a broad wildcard)?
All our paying business comes from north america.
my htaccess file will look like this:
Code: # prevents a directory listing when typing in the directory path in the browser Options -Indexes # # My effort to keep india sites from seeing our website order allow, deny deny from 203. deny from 59. allow from all
I'm trying to figure out a method to stop some of the email spam that we get, and I have something figured out, but I need help on implementing it.
Basically, we get a lot of spam emails from addresses claiming to be from our domain (EX: From: someguy@mysite.com). The email is actually not from our domain, nor does the address actually exist, but the From address is being forged to look like it is our domain.
Basically to fix this, i want to block all email where the From address is claiming to be from our domain, with a nonexistent email address. I'm pretty sure that this is configurable in Exim, but I haven't found any tutorial on it, and I'm not familiar enough with Exim to do it very easily. Anyway if anyone knows of a tutorial or how this could be accomplished, please let me know.
Just to Add: The reason that these emails are a problem is that the spam software we are running recognizes these emails as being from our domain which it trusts, so they pass most spam filters.
For window hosting are there any that offers sql db external access without ip limit? I've seriously requested thought the forums and actually signed up with few but all of em are either offered it but not anymore(security issue) or not even offering at all.
If you have any experience with hosting company that actually does offer sql db external access please share please!
vps nor dedicated servers are not my choice unfortunatley and i don't think there's any free hosting that offers this. 99% freehostings use localhost
I`m looking server with 100mbps unmetered or stable 10mbps unmetered in europe, adult allowed, 2GB RAM, p4 or something, ~300GB HDD... could You help me somehow?
I have started this thread in March 2009, now I want to come with new questions and couldn't find the old thread, maybe it was lost when WHT was hacked
[url]
The problem is that I can't turn Off mod_Security for a certain domain (just the /admin folder)
first I have tried this:
SecFilterEngine Off SecFilterScanPOST Off
and got the error :
Invalid command 'SecFilterEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
* I have a Windows 2003 Professional Edition server with 8GB installed.
* /PAE is enabled to use more than 4GB memory multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut /PAE
* I can see 8GB installed in the Task Manager
* This server is not for hosting but for running some cpu intensive applications. (I am not into webhosting industry)
But the maximum I ever seen been used is 4.66GB, and after that I run often into "Memory allocation failed" "Out of memory exception" application error.
How to use the full 8gb? Or is my box configured to use 8gb? Or is it dependent on application. Do I need a memory manager third-party software?
Looking for IRC allowed VPS, with very few IPs (only 8-16), must be RDNS delegated. SWIP is optional but a plus.
Zero ddos risk - plan on mainly doing hosting, but want to run a few clients. BW as much as possible [almost all outbound], disk maybe 10-15GB, IPv6 is a plus.
RAM something comfortable, 300-600MB, nonoversold, no control panel, unmanaged, no "stupid question" tickets will be sent
ES(X|Xi) or Xen - NO VZ!!!!! Max cap around $10-30/m USD
Out of the blue today every email sent through our domain is bouncing with the following message:
Remote SMTP Server Returned: 553 Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts.
The server has been fine for over a month and email has been working properly. The only one with access to the server is me and I haven't done anything. We are receiving email just not able to send.
This server is running Windows 2008, IIS7, and the control panel is Plesk 8.6. It is running Mailenable as the email server.
Has anyone experienced this with a similar setup and can you help me fix it?
I have exhausted all recommendations from google searches. All my DNS and MX records are setup properly as well as my relay settings on the server.
Is there anyway to test how many simultaneous connections my host is allowing me to have? I seem to be getting alot of people telling me my site is unavailable and so on when I'm not having an issue. My site joomlaplazza.com and host by VT6 extreme account.
I went into Reseller center this morning and clicked "View Usage/Stats and Manage (suspend, terminate, etc)" to find out that for that specific reseller:
Disk Space Used in Meg: 6323.02 Disk Space Limit: 4662
How is that possible?
I went back and clicked "Edit Privileges/Nameservers",
Resource Usage Limits|| Resource Max Allowed ||| Overselling Allowed Disk Space MB* ||||||| 5000 ||||||||||||||||| NOT CHECKED Bandwidth MB* ||||||| 200000 ||||||||||||||| NOT CHECKED (Sorry if my table is a bit crooked)
My reseller was able to go over the limit I have setup for him.. Should'nt he have a message that he cannot go over the limit or something preventing him of going over 5000 megs?
I'm looking for an affordable (a.k.a. fairly cheap) stable dedi that allows IRC. It will mainly be used to host a few websites, but it needs to be IRC allowed as well (the irc portion will be very small). Does anyone know any good hosts? Most of the cheaper hosts I've looked into don't allow IRC at all .
- IRC allowed - US preferably; not necessary - Managed or un-managed, doesn't matter - Decent price - Need somewhere around 20-35 IPs
My desired specs are 512MB-1GB RAM, smallest HDD possible, and 1 IP. CPU usage will be pretty low. IRC has allowed and it needs to be a datacenter in Texas. The datacenter can't be ThePlanet. DDoS protection is a huge plus.
For those host which are not overselling, they have obviously the space for file storage. But should they allow file storage on their shared hosting account, if they aren't overselling, and the files are legal?
Well, this can also be counted as a survey I need
It would be best if you provide a reason if your vote is no.
1u server colo in the new york, metro or long island area with IRC Allowed multiple IP addresses the whole 9 yards. Sorry if this was asked before, I looked but didn't see it.
What is the most secure way to dynamically change the allowed/banned ip's , and what is the best firewall for this job?
Example:
I have a database table with the ip's to be banned. This ip's can be unbanned or others ip's can be baned automatically by my script. Haw can the script tell to the firewall that an Ip was banned or unbanned? If you can give examples with the firewall on the same server and with an external firewall,
I'm looking for a dedicated server where IRC is allowed on the network. EU or US. Nothing abusive. Budget is from $80 - $100-$110 and a place where they could announce my /24.
I am looking for a reliable dedicated server provider that allows IRC. I am looking for something under 100 dollars. My budget is 100 dollars, not a cent more. I am not concerned about management levels. Managed or un-managed doesn't matter. I would prefer a U.S. based location.
1. Dont ask me what specs I am looking for; the under $100 budget will dictate the specs.
2. Yes, I am aware that there have been two topics about dedicated servers that allow IRC in the recent past. I was unable to find a host from those topics.
3. Yes, I am sure I am looking for a dedicated. Don't post links to shell providers.
4. I am about 99% sure, I will not purchase a dedicated server from your sig. If you don't have something useful to say, please don't say it at all.
5. I'm not looking for someone to tell me that its hard to find a dedicated server that allows IRC under 100 dollars. I am also fully aware that most dedicated providers don't allow IRC. On top of that I understand WHY a lot of providers don't allow IRC. Please don't post if your only going to say why IRC isn't allowed.
6. I have checked the offers sections. No luck. Please don't tell me to check the offers section.
7. I am looking for a dedicated server under 100-dollars. That's the bottom line. Thanks for reading the entire post Wait! Did I tell you thanks for reading the entire post?
One of the requirements I have for dedicated server providers is the ability to use IRC clients, not host IRC servers, but just allow my users to use a client on the host to chat on other networks. I know sometimes this can lead to trouble, but in my experience I've not run into any problems. It seems many providers allow client-only access, especially on dedicated servers, but I sometimes run into roadblocks with some providers, especially if we don't speak the same language. Maybe they just don't understand I'm talking about IRC clients? What is the general feeling of you hosters about IRC clients? Good bad, indifferent? Better to ask or not? Any advice on how to ask?
I'm looking for a good place to get a dedicated server from that allows IRC other than Staminus and has decent DDoS mitigation just to be safe. I would prefer total network bandwidth capacity to be no less than 10GB/s that pier with premium tier-1 bandwidth providers.
Needing: Processor: No less than a dual core RAM: 1-4 GB RAM HDD: No less than 150GB HDD IPs: 64 or 128 IP Addresses No less than 1500GB/m bandwidth on 100MB
