If I wanted a lot of bandwidth for the most reasonable cost, how do one go about buying bandwidth from various providers? What is Metro-Ethernet vs. say a DS3? I know there is Fractional DS3 (6 to 45mb/s) and then Ethernet services up to GigE. I'd rather not mess with BGP right now either.
If I am looking at 15-20mb/Sec of bandwidth, what would be a good route to go? My budget is about $1500/month for bandwidth and IP Addresses (I need 2 Full Class-C IP Spaces). I also want to be able to turn up speed as needed without a lot of hassle.
Is this a reasonable budget? And where would be a good place to start? Just call up like Level 3 or am I too small potatoes to even deal with?

Monthly bandwidth consumption will be around 5MB or slightly more. The Gateway will be connected with PRI's coming from telco. We'll take care of Telco.

Anyone has experience with Peer1 colocation? We're just looking to co-locate a few servers.
What webhosting/domain/server company has the best customer area - ie. the best control panel, billing interface, integration with 3rd party scripts and control panels etc etc.
I think Mediatemple has done a good job, mosso's is excellent and I like what softlayer has done with their server management interface...
Anyone else?
where to find the best prices on 5u rack space, 5Mbps bandwidth, and 5amps power in Fremont or San Jose?
Another question, I'm using a small desktop switch which can fit behind one of my 14 inch deep 1u server. Would colos allow this of would I need to pay for another U for the switch?
Does anyone know any good colocations that are good for gaming? I've been searching for some but couldn't find any. I'm interested in places like San Jose, San Francisco, or Fremont.

my company is looking for a colo provider in the Bay Area. We have done some research and the final choice comes down to these 2 companies: internap and ethr.net.
Price wise, Internap is slightly more expensive on the bandwidth, setup cost and cabinet rental.
Could anyone provide some recommendation based on personal experience? Our service is live video streaming, therefore we are looking for good network with low latency and with a bandwidth of 100mbps.
Can anyone recommend a colo for 1u in Seattle area? Looking to spend < $100/month for 3mbits of bandwidth.

For window hosting are there any that offers sql db external access without ip limit?
I've seriously requested thought the forums and actually signed up with few but all of em are either offered it but not anymore(security issue) or not even offering at all.
If you have any experience with hosting company that actually does offer sql db external access please share please!
vps nor dedicated servers are not my choice unfortunatley
and i don't think there's any free hosting that offers this. 99% freehostings use localhost

The problem is that I can't turn Off mod_Security for a certain domain (just the /admin folder)
first I have tried this:
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
and got the error :
Invalid command 'SecFilterEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
than tried this:
SecRuleEngine ctl:ruleEngine=Off
and
SecRuleEngine Off
one, at a time and got the same error for bouth:
SecRuleEngine not allowed here
Im setting up a download service which allows users to download files to there space via different methods.
As Torrents are one of the methods, I need a dedi serve host which allows torrents.
It can be either:
a) Ignore DMCA Notices - Much easyier as it saves us the trouble.
b) Forward all notices to us to reply and we handle and delete offending files.
Is there any cheap vps available with TorrentFlux (a php based torrent client - no tracker hosting) and IRC (psybnc, eggdrop) allowed?

Does anybody know of a host that allows file() and file_get_contents() functions in PHP scripts?
* I have a Windows 2003 Professional Edition server with 8GB installed.
* /PAE is enabled to use more than 4GB memory
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut /PAE
* I can see 8GB installed in the Task Manager
* This server is not for hosting but for running some cpu intensive applications. (I am not into webhosting industry)
But the maximum I ever seen been used is 4.66GB, and after that I run often into "Memory allocation failed" "Out of memory exception" application error.
How to use the full 8gb? Or is my box configured to use 8gb? Or is it dependent on application. Do I need a memory manager third-party software?
I want to create a "Client" only area that a user will have to supply a User-id and Password to gain access to and to ALL of the web pages within it. If a user does not have a User-id and Password, I want them to be able to Register for one, and if they are a "Client", then I will Activate their access.
My question is: Can someone recommend either a Free or low cost script that will allow me to do this. I would want the script to have an "Admin" function to Activate a user request, Cancel a Users access. I would also want a "User" function that would allow the user to change some of the registration data (Password, Email). I would prefer that the script is PHP.

We are currently hosting a cabinet of servers in our office, looking at adding about another 3/4 of a cabinet worth of servers in a next couple of months. The office is in the Boston area, and we currently are using Verizon for both the loop and bandwidth.
While this is working fairly well, we are starting to look at colo options. We would like to stay in the Boston area, but do not have much experience with the local options.
We have two main questions:
1) What data centers are considered good in Boston?
2) Is it worthwhile to consider resellers once you exceed a full cabinet?
I'm specifically looking for a server in the European area since I am from South Africa.
The reason being they will be more or less in the same timezone as I am and they also generally provide the fastest ping times (220ms to a server in Europe as opposed to 350ms to a server in USA).
I will be using the server as our own hosting space and hopefully be able to rent a monthly license for Parallels Plesk so that I may be able to resell hosting space - this is the primary reason for the dedicated server. I would like to know whether getting at least a quad core for this setup is essential or if I can get away with a dual core (in the case of hosting say 50 - 100 different websites).
So far I have been looking at keyweb.de which has a dual-core setup at 79euro installation fee and 49euro monthly fee. Their quad-core setup is 99euro installation and 59euro monthly. One drawback is it seems that they don't install Ubuntu linux (which is the OS i'm after). Another one is that their website isn't very intuitive - I cannot see whether it is possible to bundle Plesk with my order. I do however like the fact that they generally allow torrents.
