Can't Access My Web Site, Host Says It's My ISP

Feb 25, 2008

Can't access my web site, my web host says it's my ISP.

My WebHost said "It seems that your ISP cannot resolve the domain".

Can an ISP have any control over the accessibility of individual domains?

That's sounds a little strange to me.

My ISP support is currently closed, but I suspect they'll tell me to contact my web host.

I was able to access it earlier today.

What do you think? Is the ISP theory possible?

Can't Access My Site Or My Host

Oct 1, 2008

I woke up this morning to find I wasn't able to access my domain based email or my website. So I figured I would check with my host, (www.hostpc.com), and I was unable to access them, also.

I had someone else from a remote location and PC check and they can access hostpc as well as my website.

My PC is up and running fine otherwise.

Best Host For A Blog Site- Register With 1&1 And Host With Godaddy

May 27, 2008

with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?

Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?

Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?

Access Blocked To My Site

Feb 25, 2009

It appears that I may have my access blocked from my home network to my web site. I was attempting to set up a POP email account the other night on the server. Since then, I have not been able to access my domain name through ANY of my browsers.

Also, I cannot log-in via FTP. I also tried from my iPod touch on my wireless network at home, no access.

I was able to access and FTP today at work. I also can access on my blackberry. How is this possible?

I Get An Error When I Try To Access My Site

Dec 29, 2007

As the title says I get this error

"Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/nicsad/domains/updownloading.com/public_html/include/kernel/crontab.php on line 0"

when I try to access my site.

The error accured after I "optimized" (yeah sure) Im killing my self, lol,
the file /etc/httpd/conf/extra/httpd-mpm.conf
and restarted the server, I am on a dedicated server, Linux Centos 5 with DirecAdmin panel.

First it worked, there was no problem at all, then after 5-15 minutes I got the above error?

What is weird is that all other websites I have on the server works fine, it only this one which doesnt work:

updownloading com

And what is more weird is that the temporary index.html file I have uploaded is accessible?

but the normal index.php file which my website use is not.

All worked perfect without problem before but now I get the above error.

Please again help, I promise after this time I wont "optmizing" anything Why cant I just be satisfied and stop mendling with what I dont know.

I recieve around 400-500 visitors a day so I hope you can help me fix this problem.

How To Allow Client-only Access To A Production Site

Aug 4, 2008

How I do put a website of a client that is in production and give them access it to view it while preventing search engines from indexing it? I had the production site on a sub domain but search engines would inevitably index it. I could a no-index robot text but if people had the domain, they'd still find it. I want to just put it on my server and the client can login with a PW and view the status.

How To Get A Copy Of Entire Site Without FTP Access

Jan 19, 2007

to get a copy of their entire site onto our servers.

The problem is that they have no backups, and their current host has denied them access to their account. (It's a long story.)

Rather then try and fight with their old host, I wonder if it's easier to just run some kind of "website copy" program and grab a copy of all pages and images, linked files, etc..

Their current website pages are served using an ASP database application, but the copy they need only has to work. It doesn't need to be dynamic, etc... as long as all the pages are there it's good.

Access DirectAdmin Site Without Domain - Possible With CPanel

Mar 7, 2009

I'm new to using directadmin and I've got a problem; I've not yet switched the DNS over to the directadmin server 'cause I want to make sure the sites work first, however I can't find how to view the sites. With cpanel you can go to http://192.168.1.1/~username (where 192.168.1.1 = IP of server and username is username of account).
is this possible with directadmin? I can't find anything about it, anywhere.

Single User Can't Access Any Site On My Server

Feb 16, 2009

I have a user who says he cannot get to any site on my server from either home or work. He has been a user for many years, and has never had any problems. He has also checked with his IT at work and they confirmed the site is not available. He is computer savvy, so I trust he is telling the truth.

His work and home are only 10 miles apart.

Do you guys have any ideas what could be happening? Is there a DNS entry wrong somewhere? He can't access the site even when putting in the IP address.

There is one other user reporting something similar but other than that no other complaints. The site works fine for everyone else.

site is gm-trucks.com

Reliable Web Host With SSH Access

Aug 9, 2008

Before we get any further I would ask that people not relentlessly spam this thread with this or that, telling me how great your web-host is. Im sure it is. I do want serious replies that address my concerns.

I am currently with a web host called bluehost.com -- with which I am becoming VERY dissatisfied with. They are now consistently having downtime which causes me a lot of frustration when I am in the middle of editing a file (or many files as I like to do). Frustration aside, what is this going to cost me when I am not just developing and rather depending on them to keep me alive and available? This is NOT why I pay $7 a month.

Further, I find it absolutely rude and unacceptable the way I am treated by their customer service representatives. In this regard I am uncertain what is worse, letting them know Ive troubleshooted the issue on my own and therefore know something, or acting as if I don't know anything at all about the problem. Either way I receive rude, snarky, condescending, and / or passive-aggressive irritation from aformentioned representative. They "guide" me through steps they probably read from a script and when they are done "diagnosing" the problem I feel as though I've been raped. Its quite an ugly scene. I do want to mention however that I have NEVER had even 'acceptable' customer service from any of the 4 or 5 web-hosts I have tried (by tried I mean more than 6 months of sticking it out).

I wish to find a web host company that is relatively large in size. This would imply a few things to me that:

A) They have the capacity to reduce or eliminate downtime to something approaching zero at worst and zero at best.

B) They have the capacity to staff knowledgeable customer service representatives that are not snivelling, sexually challenged uber-geeks with a grudge against the universe.

I do realize this request is like expecting politicians to be honest or more specifically if the said host is large and resource laden, they probably did not get there by hiring the best and brightest to sit by the phone.

C) They offer SSH access to their customers. And other small details would include a list of basic and expected necessities such as: MySQL, PHP, FastCGI, Zend Optimizer, sub-domains, pop3 accounts / mail, a control panel for account settings, and of course error logs and the like.

So, if anyone knows of a host with these features, please let me know and / or please let me know of your experiences with this host. If you have had problems with Bluehost please keep in mind that they have treated me *relatively* well, with the exception of customer service not worth the goo between my toes.

Host For A Kid's Site

Apr 27, 2008

I'm going to be extremely blunt and start off that although I'm not an unintelligent person, I'm very dumb when it comes to hosting and the lingo. So I would really appreciate the "Hosting for Dummies" version to find a good host

The closest I can show in what I am building with my partner is HERE (which claims to have had 90Million pageviews/month last year) Just basically a teen game and graphic site. It will be mostly flash games, php, various other scripts and forums.

I'm confident in saying they don't use shared hosting at least. Though what it is exactly I don't know. There is no way I'd get a dedicated server to begin with till we need it. I'm not sure what else a site like this requires (perhaps unlimited mySQL?) for a shared hosting plan. I was looking at HostMonster, Hostgator and Bluehost. I need good customer support for sure, I've had too many crap hosts in the past. I also need multiple domains (4-5)

In sum, does the shared hosting even matter at this point, or should I come back when we're in need of dedicated? I'm guessing cp usage will be the first to give out?

How To Backup Host Account With Out SSH Access

Oct 1, 2007

I am moving hosts and my old host is unable to backup my current site and give me a single tar or zip
file of my websites (They do not use cpannel)

The only access I have to them is var ftp and there custom control pannel, I have been backuing up.

My new cpanel host has given me SHH access and I was trying to
run a ftpsync a perl based script to sync a site but it times out "421 No Transfer Timeout (900 seconds)"

At the moment I am backing up the site to my local pc but it has been running for the last 12 hours, All the sites only total about 350mb but they are made up of lots of small files and I think that this is the reason why it is taking so long.

I wanted to know if any one had any other ideas as I am a little bit worried that I might lose some data that is why I would like to some how backup my old host direct to my new host.

How To Host A Site On A Server

Jun 5, 2009

I've a site running at my localhost with Apache/Tomcat server, pages are mostly jsp.

I've used Oracle as the database but i'm currently migrating it to MySQL. I've used the

Struts framework. And i'm planning to add AJAX to it in coming days.

So, the whole thing is up and working on my local machine, how do i host it on a server so that its available in the internet?

Which hosting service is required for this kind of website?

How do i choose a hosting service?

And the most important of all, how to deploy and make the code running in the remote server.

I'm planning to go for a shared server for the moment.

Moved To New Host Yet Sometimes See 'old' Site.

Jun 24, 2009

I recently moved a site from one hosting company to another. I went to the registrar and pointed the DNS at the new nameservers, and set up a new ftp account to upload the site. The DNS seemed to resolve ok after a few hours, (in my browser I was seeing the new host's default home page) so I uploaded the site to the new host.

Today sometimes I see the new site and sometimes the old!

I'll be editing pages and uploading them by ftp, then suddenly I'll see a different directory structure on the remote server. Similarly I'll refresh my browser while looking at the new site and... Hey! I'm seeing the page on the old site!

I've cleared the browser cache on my machine btw.

My guess is that either a server somewhere in the path (at my local service provider?) is throwing out old cached versions of the page, perhaps when it is busy, or that not all the nameserver/dns records have updated.
