What Hosting Company Can You Recommend MS SQL
Oct 20, 2009I have recently built my first database application.I used SQL Server 2005 Express edition because it is free. The drawback is that it can only hold 4GB of data. But the database is also compatible with any SQL Server edition.
I'm wondering what my options are - a lot of hosting companies seem to offer a greater storage capacity and then limit the actual size of the SQl database. i.e. 10GB of online diskspace with a 600MB SQL database.

Sep 2, 2008I am currently on shared hosting (i will not mention who with) however since I have been with them my site has been down about 4 times. The good thing is my site hadnt launched it was just a placeholder page so nothing critical.
Due to the above issues, I need to change host, it is essential there is no downtime, its a new site and I dont want our reputation to suffer due to downtime.
What hosts would you recommend from the UK, thank you.

Jun 3, 2008my friend and i are working on some web-based-commerce ideas and at current we're at godaddy.com. i can only imagine the vitriol they've rightfully earned here, as we decided to be done with them when the $30 SSL license they told us we could get one night quickly became $78 because there was a new "turboSSL server" package we needed, nevermind the guy the first time said with our hosting options we only needed to go through them for the SSL license, so basically, either the first guy lied to us or the second guy tried to hustle us, either way, i dont like companies whose sales model is revealed like the plot in a horror movie, so we're looking to go elsewhere.
basically we're looking for a virtual private server setup, although actually another question i'd love to ask someone is if joomla is better served on unix/linux or windows, with a few dozen accounts needed, and by accounts i mean domains and whatnot, as right now it's basically the blanket idea that you grab the names you need, or might go to if you change your mind on company names...
so basically, with all the people here talking about bad experiences with places, are there any good experience type places where someone can get competent tech support, no hustling in sales pitches, and quality service at a nice solid price?
again, sorry to show up and start asking for things, but i'm not necessarily well versed in these arts yet... rest assured once i have some information i shall contribute to the community and help others who are in my position now

Sep 27, 2008I'm looking for a dedicated hosting server to store more than 800GB in video. This video will not be played back, this place is just to store and where people can download.
As far as I can tell my only solutions is dedicated, but if anyone can offer me a better solution please let me know. Before I had this videos on different servers but the company does not allow me to keep them for storage.

Apr 22, 2008I have a 1u server that I'm looking to colo. I looked around the forums but I can't seem to find exactly what I need.
I'd prefer if the hosting company was large, owned its own datacenter (as opposed to leasing), offered proactive (automated) monitoring services, remote reboot, and a superb network with little or no downtime.
I like liquidweb but it looks like they only have 500gb / month up and down or a dedicated line capped at 10mbps line. I need something in between, around 1000GB / month up and down with 100mbps port. Support doesn't really matter, nor does price.
Recommend Me A Large European Company
Oct 14, 2009I know there are many topics asking about European hosting companies but I need some specifics.
First of all I'm going to buy a reseller account but I will only use it for my own websites. I won't sell so I don't need end user support.
I would like the company to be at least 2 years old and very large. For example Hostgator has 7000 servers but it's in Texas and not Europe(though I will get reseller account from them if I can't find a host I like in Europe).
They also should have good support and should be trustworthy.
My budget is between 20-30$. Right now I don't have any high traffic websites but I would like to be able to upgrade in the future when I have.
I also have a question. If I get a host which has Fantastico, are the programs I can install the same on every host? For example Hostgator has programs like Zencart,Cubecart,osCommerce. Are they included in every host that has Fantastico?
Linux or Windows doesn't matter.
Country doesn't matter much but I would prefer UK for English language support.

Budget Dedicated; A Good Company
Sep 14, 2008I'm with burstnet and they're pretty good, however I do have some downtime and that's really my main issue. I need my sites to be online 24/7, or as close to that as possible.
I have a budget of around $80 per month, which isn't much, but I don't need any top of the range server, I'd love to go with singlehop, they look amazing, but their pricing is out of my range.
Can anybody recommend any good companies, with good uptime and a reasonable support team? It would be brilliant if they had some sort of remote reboot facility, as waiting for the company support team to reboot can be a pain...
I don't need much, the server is just to host my person websites, project ideas etc. I need around 1TB bandwidth, 100GB diskspace maybe... I could probably manage on shared hosting right now, however I need the freedom of my own dedicated. I've had a bad experience with VPSs before, so they're out of the question.
I've searched, but burst seems to be my only option, which is disappointing.

Jul 8, 2008After several issues with our shared hosting provider, I have decided to recommend we move our site to a VPS solution.
We are a video/media production house and although our actual site does not demand many cpu/memory resources, we have a huge need for ample disk space and FAST data transfers up and down.
We are constantly uploading video files for client approval, receiving files from animators/designers/etc., delivering files to clients, etc. and need FAST and RELIABLE hosting to accomplish this.
I may end up using a content management system for the site itself, probably Drupal, but our actual web content is minimal. Most of our traffic takes place behind the scenes as data transfer.
I simply don't have the bandwith onsite to run my own server, so I would like to try the VPS route. I don't think we have money to budget for a dedicated server.
One last question. Do any VPS solutions offer a media streaming server for Flash streaming?

They are looking to replace their currently self-hosted calendaring system with a hosted service. Can anyone here recommend one or a place for me to look? Here are some of the features I imagine they are looking for:
1) Individual calendars by photographer.
2) Easy color coding of items on the photographer calendar. They color code based on which salesperson found the job and if the job has a hold or a confirmed status.
3) Integration with iCal on the Mac. At a minimum, iCal users should be able to subscribe to calendars on the service.
4) Various levels of security. All salespeople should be able to update all photographers' calendars. Individual photographers should be able to see only their calendars and may (or may not) have permission to change them (this is determined on an individual photographer basis)).
5) Reliability. This is at the heart of their operation.

RAM Based Hosting
Apr 22, 2009We've tried before several times RAM based hosting (where you have all files on RAM disk). Our systems were crashing, but my guess is that we were putting about 100,000 or so files on it and since it was formatted with ext3 (everywhere else we are using XFS) - this was a reason for crashing.
Since we have a lot of bandwdith in our data center, we are thinking about becoming a mirror for CentOS, gOS and some other distributions. I am thinking again about using RAM disk based hosting (you use 1 Gb/s port 100% no problem with it even on CoreDuo level of CPU).
Anybody has any experince, good or bad of running RAM based hosting? I am talking about dedicated, not VPS environment.

Hosting Decision Based On Speed
Aug 30, 2008Well I think that I have finally narrowed down my choices to three different possible hosts (leaving room for more suggestions of course)
But I was wondering based on speed - which host would you suggest. I would like to have mp3s load up and start playing as fast as possible.

As for whether to go with a shared or a reseller package, I am still unsure. But it seems that Hostgator offers a huge shared package - I am hoping to keep the cost of all this down to $7 - $10 a month.
