Recommend A Shared Hosting Company In The United Kingdom
Sep 2, 2008
I am currently on shared hosting (i will not mention who with) however since I have been with them my site has been down about 4 times. The good thing is my site hadnt launched it was just a placeholder page so nothing critical.
Due to the above issues, I need to change host, it is essential there is no downtime, its a new site and I dont want our reputation to suffer due to downtime.
What hosts would you recommend from the UK, thank you.
I started another thread in the VPS section but i do not know how to close it,
does anyone know of any datacenters in the uk? looking to get a server with lots of hd space but dont wanna pay some of the extortionate prices around as the rest of the server doesnt need to be powerful or anything. im in uk so would be nice not to have to ship a server overseas
Anybody used webnx in LA USA to host any mission critical i/o cpu intensive web based applications for UK or European customers? If yes did the distance have any great or neagitive impact on speed of service?
If noboday has the experience does anyone have any experience?
Currently we've got around 15 dedicated servers in the USA, 1 in the Netherlands and 1 in Germany. We're currently expanding a bit and we've just put up another server in Malaysia and now wanting to hit the UK.
I'm after a dedicated server with specifications not to dissimilar to the following:
- Core2 CPU (E6600 or better) - 2GB RAM (or better) - 250GB HDD (or better) - 100MBit NIC - 2000GB b/w (or better) - Windows 2003 (Standard Edition preferred)
We're looking to pay no more than 100/mo. Server will be used for gaming purposes.
I'm after a respected company that will accept PayPal. I'll ask that you do not suggest companies which do not accept PayPal or ask for ID verification because it's extra hassle I don't want to deal with.
I've had a look at RapidSwitch which seem good but I can't find ANYTHING about payment methods on their website which is a bit daft (unless I'm blind).
My client operates a very busy online store ( i.e 500 high value orders per day, etcetra)
ps we dont require round robin etcetra yet- will look into that afterwards- first stage is getting the client of my box as my other online stores are suffering.
All my servers are based in the same datacentre USA and recently seem to be suffering connectivity issues.
anyways question is:
Can someone rec me a good datacentre / good hosting company. BASED IN THE UK with a UK DATACENTRE
I've been looking but got no idea who to trust. we used to run our own hosting company so i dont trust those tophosts or awards sites- ( they can be bought)
UKFAST i wil search on here in a sec but their sales pitch is soo hard and slick its too good to be true
unitedhosting has been really good in terms of replying to sales tickets but NO TELEPHONE CONTACT! even for sales. very odd.
I have recently built my first database application.I used SQL Server 2005 Express edition because it is free. The drawback is that it can only hold 4GB of data. But the database is also compatible with any SQL Server edition.
I'm wondering what my options are - a lot of hosting companies seem to offer a greater storage capacity and then limit the actual size of the SQl database. i.e. 10GB of online diskspace with a 600MB SQL database.
I ideally want to use Fasthosts as the hosting provider, on a shared hosting account. Are there any CMS's that install and work well in such an environment?
I dont need a CMS with bells and whistles, just one that is template driven, and has 'friendly' URLs.
I’m not sure this I the right place to post this, but since I’ll need also a dedicated server I guess it is (I’m sorry if it’s not).
Hi to you all.
I’m developing my own site. This will be my very first time building and managing a site, so I’m for sure a noob on this type of stuff (but I have a good general knowledge on computers (I build my own computers and solve every problem I encounter)). The site will be managed by joomla 1.5 plus a phpbb3 forum (maybe vbulleting in the future). Obviously when my site is completed and published on the net I’ll have zero members, but I hope to see this number increase (lol…from 0 members it isn’t a hard thing to accomplish…I guess ).
Having a really low number of members and visitors I think that I’ll start from a shared hosting plan (or VPS) and then go up to a dedicated server (when I’ll need it…I hope soon )….probably a managed dedicated server since I don’t know much of the technicalities needed to manage a dedicated server.
This being said, I would prefer to go for a good hosting company (cheap…but reliable) that has both shared and dedicated hosting plans so when I’ll have to upgrade (from shared/VPS to dedicated) everything will be smoothly managed by them.
The site/forum aims to have a large community, a good n° of hosted files (images and mp3’s (recorded voice) ---> everything legal!)
What hosting company would you suggest?
Is it possible to have the site on one server and the forum on another? (considering that the forum will be integrated in the joomls CMS with a bridge).
I'm trying for days to decide which company I should use for my shared hosting/maybe (reseller(beginner)) (PHP/Linux), and hostmonster and bluehost have been getting the best "official" reviews but everybody else is complaining for their downtimes and unreliability. I'm currently with dailyrazor and today my site was down for sometime without the reason. I wasn't even informed about that. If I didn't checked myself it would be down god knows for how long. ...
My preferences:
I would like to host 3-5 sites at least 2 will have shopping cart's (5 MySql databases MAX), not much of audio or video at all. I don't want to spend more than $10 monthly. Location US, Guarantied uptime 99.9%
I'm currently with Steadfast Networks for my VPS (Linux). We are now in need of shared MS Exchange Hosting plan. Although I found some companies offering Exchange Hosting, they do not offer VPS's. Does anyone knows of any reliable company offering both?
I want someone (well maybe except Rackspace) who is reliable, has good feedback and provides good uptime and customer service.
I know there are many topics asking about European hosting companies but I need some specifics.
First of all I'm going to buy a reseller account but I will only use it for my own websites. I won't sell so I don't need end user support.
I would like the company to be at least 2 years old and very large. For example Hostgator has 7000 servers but it's in Texas and not Europe(though I will get reseller account from them if I can't find a host I like in Europe).
They also should have good support and should be trustworthy.
My budget is between 20-30$. Right now I don't have any high traffic websites but I would like to be able to upgrade in the future when I have.
I also have a question. If I get a host which has Fantastico, are the programs I can install the same on every host? For example Hostgator has programs like Zencart,Cubecart,osCommerce. Are they included in every host that has Fantastico?
Linux or Windows doesn't matter.
Country doesn't matter much but I would prefer UK for English language support.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a GOOD shared/reseller host? Geekstorage has had good reviews here, but I've been sorely disappointed in the frequent downtime I've had on two separate servers. Looking to move elsewhere soon if I can find someone else. So -
Price isn't really an issue. I need at least 20GB of storage. Bandwidth also not an issue.
Couple days ago all of a sudden my host that I've been with for years all of a sudden went down the drain. Why? Supposedly, my site was used for spam? Stupid. They are "trying" to compile my database and files, but I DOUBT that will happen.
With an already 24 hour downtime. I am receiving a lot of emails and phone calls on site. I need my community to get back up asap! So I guess it's time to find a new host.
I need a RECOMMENDATION on a westcoast host that will provide me with great customer service and the requirements I need to run my community.
Must handle vBulletin real well, have the requirements I need, and have great customer service.
This is a local forum, which is why I would like to be on a Westcoast Host.
There are diverse salespeople who sell my wife's artistic services and those of other photographers like her. They are looking to replace their currently self-hosted calendaring system with a hosted service. Can anyone here recommend one or a place for me to look? Here are some of the features I imagine they are looking for:
1) Individual calendars by photographer.
2) Easy color coding of items on the photographer calendar. They color code based on which salesperson found the job and if the job has a hold or a confirmed status.
3) Integration with iCal on the Mac. At a minimum, iCal users should be able to subscribe to calendars on the service.
4) Various levels of security. All salespeople should be able to update all photographers' calendars. Individual photographers should be able to see only their calendars and may (or may not) have permission to change them (this is determined on an individual photographer basis)).
5) Reliability. This is at the heart of their operation.
if i want to make image hosting such as allyoucanupload or imageshack , where hosting should i go to,... i was with hostgator and they suspended me for it.
I'm planning to launch an e-commerce website for photo and gift printing. I went on Google and found a few websites having Top 10 web hosting companies information. I am really confuse which one is the best for my website.
I'm not sure how many users and traffic the website will get and don't want to pay extra $$$s for VPS or dedicated servers
