Can anyone recommend a good hosting company based in the UK. As most of the one's suggested in this thread are American.
View 15 Replies View Relatedmy friend and i are working on some web-based-commerce ideas and at current we're at godaddy.com. i can only imagine the vitriol they've rightfully earned here, as we decided to be done with them when the $30 SSL license they told us we could get one night quickly became $78 because there was a new "turboSSL server" package we needed, nevermind the guy the first time said with our hosting options we only needed to go through them for the SSL license, so basically, either the first guy lied to us or the second guy tried to hustle us, either way, i dont like companies whose sales model is revealed like the plot in a horror movie, so we're looking to go elsewhere.
basically we're looking for a virtual private server setup, although actually another question i'd love to ask someone is if joomla is better served on unix/linux or windows, with a few dozen accounts needed, and by accounts i mean domains and whatnot, as right now it's basically the blanket idea that you grab the names you need, or might go to if you change your mind on company names...
so basically, with all the people here talking about bad experiences with places, are there any good experience type places where someone can get competent tech support, no hustling in sales pitches, and quality service at a nice solid price?
again, sorry to show up and start asking for things, but i'm not necessarily well versed in these arts yet... rest assured once i have some information i shall contribute to the community and help others who are in my position now
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on good, cheap, ASP.NET web hosting companies preferably in the 5-7$/month range. I have a tiny site, but a lot of email, so having a few gigs of storage space would be nice. Bandwidth has never been an issue in the past, but the more the merrier. Support for the newest .NET stuff would be highly desirable (.NET 3.5, preferably win2008 servers, maybe a MSSQL db?)
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm going to be rolling out a php/mysql driven site soon and I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that the mysql performance dreamhost has given me isn't going to cut it, its probably too oversold. Simple one table one column selects can take 30 seconds or time out depending on how badly the server is being hammered. HTTP requests are usually snappy, but the mysql performance is bogus.
What is a good host for me to launch this site with? Storage wouldn't need to be too terribly high, at least initially. I'm tempted by MediaTemple's slick marketing, but I've seen on here that some people have had poor sql performance (contrary to what some personal friends have experienced, so I'm torn). I was reading about downtownhost on here, but their load times seemed slow when I hit a couple domains listed on here that are hosted by them.
This host needs to be located in the US. Honestly, I like dreamhost and their panel, save for the sql sluggishness I'm getting.
I am referring a friend to JaguarPC but he wants more options so he wants me to recommend 3 different shared webhosts to him. What are two other great shared hosting providers that have as good support as JaguarPC?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI came to this site few days back only and was going through various discussions. After being on this website since last 1 week I am really impressed that members are really helpful to other members with their fair and valuable suggestions.
I do have a quick question for you and need your suggestions:
Q: Which web host I should go with where I will get around 20GB of space with PHP, MySQL, FFMPEG support.
Please recommend me a host with high uptime, good http response time, and reliable to host considering a long term relationship.
This makes me confused when signing up.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAnyone know a good cheap host that allows text based rpgs? I run a text based mmorpg that is somewhat busy, about 400,000 pageviews a month.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis one may be a bit of a stretch, but does anyone know of a shared host who gives you both Windows and Linux hosting with one account? It is possible, as the company myhosting.com seems to offer it, and I think (mt) MediaTemple has some betas with it.
Update: Apparently MyHosting.com does it by giving you a primarily windows account with a linux sub-domain. That would work for me, but I'd rather a more known provider.
I'm trying for days to decide which company I should use for my shared hosting/maybe (reseller(beginner)) (PHP/Linux), and hostmonster and bluehost have been getting the best "official" reviews but everybody else is complaining for their downtimes and unreliability. I'm currently with dailyrazor and today my site was down for sometime without the reason. I wasn't even informed about that. If I didn't checked myself it would be down god knows for how long. ...
My preferences:
I would like to host 3-5 sites at least 2 will have shopping cart's (5 MySql databases MAX), not much of audio or video at all. I don't want to spend more than $10 monthly. Location US, Guarantied uptime 99.9%
shared 100 Mbps is it good or bad for colo/dedicated?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe've tried before several times RAM based hosting (where you have all files on RAM disk). Our systems were crashing, but my guess is that we were putting about 100,000 or so files on it and since it was formatted with ext3 (everywhere else we are using XFS) - this was a reason for crashing.
Since we have a lot of bandwdith in our data center, we are thinking about becoming a mirror for CentOS, gOS and some other distributions. I am thinking again about using RAM disk based hosting (you use 1 Gb/s port 100% no problem with it even on CoreDuo level of CPU).
Anybody has any experince, good or bad of running RAM based hosting? I am talking about dedicated, not VPS environment.
I have a situation like this:
There is a directory say, "Master" and inside, "Master" there is sub-directory, "Slave". A user who has access to, "Master" should be able to access, "Slave" automatically. However, a user who has access to, "Slave" should not have access to, "Master". Inside cPanel this type of protection is not possible.
hey anyone tell me the best hosting peoples in india..

With the recent news re: VMware Server, and my experience with VMware, I've started to look, and easily prefer, using this product over Xen. Has anyone else started to look at it as a possible alternative for hosting purposes?

We have a Windows based application (Win32 app) that we want to host through a browser.
I can't find much information on the web, however I came across these guys who seem to do what I need: [url]
Does anyone know what technology they use to host Windows applications? And can it be used on a Mac or Linux? Does anyone know of anyone else who does this type of thing?
Well I think that I have finally narrowed down my choices to three different possible hosts (leaving room for more suggestions of course)
But I was wondering based on speed - which host would you suggest. I would like to have mp3s load up and start playing as fast as possible.
The choices I was considering were:
knownhost
downtownhost
hostgator
As for whether to go with a shared or a reseller package, I am still unsure. But it seems that Hostgator offers a huge shared package - I am hoping to keep the cost of all this down to $7 - $10 a month.
Can anyone recommend shared hosting company where servers are located at Brazil ?
If should be reliable, economical and Ii would be good if I can host multiple domains.
Also if the hosting company has its site in English or their staff can communicate in English?
I was going to use reliablesite.net to host my website, but I guess I'll wait and try to find something better.
What I need is a hosting provider that is relatively cheap, windows based (I use .net) and that can handle big amounts of visitors.
I'm trying to find a reputable dedicated host whos datacenter is located in toronto (no Quebec DataCenters plz) and can meet my below requirements:
1) Windows 2003 Server ()
2) 1~2 TB Bandwidth
3) allow/offer up to /24 ip block (with IP jurisdiction of course)
4) Private VPN hosting allowed
5) Managed preferred
Does anyone know of a company that can do the above?
Please do not PM me regarding your offers, as I will not check PM that often.
I have a personal web site and am developing an online business that I hope will grow(of course) and am wondering if anyone could give me advice about using an overseas web host.
I am wondering if the extra distance bewteen customer and web host will cause a significant lagtime when they are using my website.
I have a task of converting a current Win Server based apache server from multiple IP based virtual hosts to a full name based virtual hosting.I'm famiilar with the steps but I was wondering if there are any gotchas in Windows that I should be aware of. It seems that now matter what I change in the new config it doesn't work or work as expected.

I am looking for a host that allow adult content.
it is to be used for a blog, wordpress based with a minimum of space requirements.
EU based is a must have.
currently it is using 25mb + 200mb bw/month.
I need it to be cpanel based and with awstats.
Mysql is not required as it is hosted aldready.
so I am looking for something reliable with a fair amount of space/bw for a small monthly price.
not required but a nice thing to have would be the posibility for more domains on the account.
Eny host you can recommend for this?
If there was reliable plesk based FFmpeg hosting out there would you try it?

The biggest feature that's important to me is ease of use. I want something that I can configure from a web based menu. So what linux based router software is the easiest to use and most educational?
Also - I dealing with about 30mb 95th percentile traffic. Peak is 100mb. Would a box that has and AMD dual core CPU with 8 gigs of ram be a good enough computer to run on?

I have a small problem. I have a install directory on my website, who are only for me. I have a password protected directory, and thats no problem to create in Plesk on Linux.
But the main diffrent from Windows based Plesk, are that I can not create a directory there I can browse the files in my webreader.
In windows plesk they have a option called Web directory, but I have never seen thats option in Linux plesk.
Are there any easy way to password protect and allow directory browsing in Plesk for Linux? Or do anybody have a easy way to do that?
One option, is to access the directory thru FTP interface in Internet explorer (ftp://mysite/directory). But I want to access the site thru HTTP if possible.
